Getting Wound Up: Part Two

Rate this book
Part TWO of three

A fun, flirty crossover novel from bestselling authors Jennifer Bernard (the Love Between the Bases series) and Erin Nicholas (the Sapphire Falls series)

Caitlyn Murray has never let on that she's had fantasies about her brother's friend Eli Anderson for years. She'd do anything for the sexy, baseball star who's given it all up to stay in Sapphire Falls and take care of his family, but she and Eli are friends. Just friends.

So when her brother hatches a plan to get Eli to the pro baseball try-out for the Kilby Catfish that he has dreamed of and deserves, Caitlyn is all in. After all, what's a little kidnapping among friends?

A spot on the pitcher's mound for the Catfish isn't the only tempting thing about the spontaneous road trip. Eli already knows that Caitlyn is as sweet as the candies she makes for the Sapphire Falls bakery, but alone with her overnight in the tiny motel room in Kansas, it's impossible to resist the urge to take a little taste.

But when that taste leads to falling for the girl next door just as his front door is moving hundreds of miles away, can Eli really have it all? Or do they have too many strikes against them?

I really enjoyed this second part of the Getting Wound Up Trilogy! Chances are you'll have read part 1 already (because this one starts right where that one left off, so really, you're missing out if you start now). This review of part 2 contains spoilers for part 1 so stop reading now if you don't want to know them, and go start at the beginning of the series!

Okay, if you're still here, I assume you're ready to hear about part 2!

Thus you'll know that Eli's risk of trying out for the Kilby Catfish paid off and he's gone off to chase his dream of being a professional baseball player. But this doesn't mean that Caitlyn hasn't been in his thoughts. In this instalment they've been keeping in touch a little long distance but Eli is realizing that he wants more with Caitlyn than just the odd visit home to Sapphire Falls. When Eli's birthday comes up, and it's the same day that he's slated to have his first professional start, he gets a lovely surprise from Ty, Brian and Caitlyn.

What I enjoyed about this part was two things - first of all, I really loved the baseball scenes! I feel a little bit invested now in Eli's teammates, and I have to say that I'm definitely going to have to investigate Erin's co-author Jennifer further, because I want to know more about these guys and this town too! And secondly, I thought the relationship with Eli and Caitlyn was very realistic - they both have feelings for each other that they are willing to share and while they share some steamy scenes together, I was just as interested in their emotional relationship too. But because this is the middle of the story, we naturally get to the meat of the conflict - what kind of future can they have together if they aren't living in the same town? And this is exacerbated by some things that befall Caitlyn's brother Bryan, making her question what will be best for her family and for Eli. So we get an ending that leaves the reader wanting to dive in to book 3 to get to the happy ending but we are definitely not there yet!

"Never give up on your dreams." It's an easy mantra to recite, a hard phrase to forget-but not as easy to live up to. Life throws us all curve balls that sets us on a different course and pretty soon we miss out on our plans. In Getting Wound Up that's what happened to Eli. He'd given up and forged a new path filled with adult responsibilities but persuasive friends gave him the courage to take a second look and make his dream a reality. I am not a sports fan. I am a romance fan. Getting Wound Up mixes both to create a story that has more heart, charm and fun then one story should. This story takes the best of both authors Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard and creates a story about the bonds of friendship, determination and love with a central theme that hits home. Seductive, entertaining and enjoyable. Was hard not to fall in love.

This book picks up right where the first one ended. Eli got the call from the Catfish and is now playing with them. His days are filled with learning all he can about playing the game at this level but his nights are spent missing Caitlyn and what they just started. When Caitlyn, Bryan, and Ty make a surprise visit for his first game as starting picture he is over the moon. He knows he needs her in his life and wants her to stay but will she? Can she? More to come in the final installment!

Getting Wound UP is a crossover book between the Erin Nicholas’s Sapphire Falls series and Jennifer Bernard’s Love Between the Bases series, but you don’t have to have read any books in either series to fall in love with Caitlyn and Eli! He is the hometown boy who could’ve made it to Major League Baseball but for a family health crisis. She’s the girl who grew-up and moved away but upon returning home to Sapphire Falls, due to her own family health crisis, finds herself falling for her older brother’s best friend. Caitlyn as always liked and admired Eli but now it’s so much more, which she can handle as long as he doesn’t find out…too bad she’s tasked with kidnapping Eli and delivering him to an open try out for a MLB team. Will his big league dreams finally come true and if they do what does that mean for her dreams of happily ever after with Eli in their home town?
Bernard and Nicholas team up to deliver an amazingly fun and romantic story that is serialized over three parts. In Part Two Eli has gotten the call, he is a member of the Kilby Catfish a Triple AAA team, but he’s quickly realizing how much he misses Caitlyn. At home, Caitlyn can’t stop thinking about Eli and their one night, so when Bryan and Ty decided they must be in Kilby for Eli’s first start, on his birthday no less, Caitlyn gets a second shot at that one night! As Eli and Caitlyn admit their feelings for one another the dark specter of hometown responsibilities once again clashes with their big league dreams. Each author brings her unique talents to the story but they are such a great match that it is impossible to tell who wrote what scene. Expect to laugh, fan yourself from the heat and sexiness, and ultimately fall in love right along with Eli and Caitlyn…and then expect to purchase all the books in both series in rapid fashion, if you haven’t done so already!

"He loved it all. Every grass-scented, sweaty, muscle-straining moment. Only one thing was missing. If only Caitlyn could be here...He wanted to see her in the stands, go home to her at night."

This part picks up right where the last left off. You're immediately pulled back into the story.

Eli and Caitlyn are learning how to deal with their new found relationship and long distance. All the while, keeping it a secret from their friends and family. Because would they ever accept/believe it?

"A lot of people care about you, Eli. Not just me."
"You care?"
"Yeah, like it's some big secret. I don't send flowers to just any boy."
"You take the cake, Caitlyn. There's no one like you."

I like how this story isn't just a quick, whirlwind romance. There is more depth to it. You do get the lovey dovey, sexy time stuff, but you also get the emotional setbacks that so many experience. The family issues that you have to work around even if your heart wants other things.

I think that comes from combining two series into this one book. It's pretty awesome to see two worlds collide and crossover into each other. I felt like I was getting so much more story that I thought...and that's a beautiful thing!

"This was his new home, his team, his dream. And she was his girl. His...love. Another dream. Did he want to sombine the two? Yeah, kind of. But not yet."

I'm loving this story more and more as I read it! I want them to find a balance between dreams and family. To get all they've ever wanted without any doubts!

I also have questions that I need answered!!

I guess it's onto Part 3 I go:)

"With Caitlyn, he could have it all--baseball and romance."

"Getting Wound Up" is written by Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard. It is a crossover novel between Erin's Sapphire Falls series and Jennifer's Love Between the Bases series. This is the 2nd part in a 3-part novel and ends in a cliffhanger. It features Eli Anderson and Caitlyn Murray.

Eli made the team! He's getting to live out his dream of playing professional baseball. The downside... he misses his home, and he misses Caitlyn.

His birthday is coming up, so what better surprise than Caitlyn, Bryan, and Ty visiting him when he's the starting pitcher for the Kilby Catfish? Nothing could be better! Caitlyn wants to do special for him, so she surprises him. In the process, she wins over his teammates, and they want her to stay in town.

There were so many great scenes in part of "Getting Wound Up"! I loved when Eli was showing Caitlyn around town and making comparisons to what the equivalent would be in Sapphire Falls. I also enjoyed when Eli's new friends and teammates welcomed Caitlyn with open arms. But will she stay in town to be with him, or will she go back to Sapphire Falls?

Erin and Jennifer outdid themselves with part 2! I absolutely enjoyed it, and it had me smiling and laughing the whole time! Looking forward to what they have in store for part 3!

So, Eli gets to go Pro, with the Kilby Catfish, and Caitlyn went home to get on with her life, having had her one special night with Eli and helping him get to the pros. They both got what they wanted, right?! Eli realized he really wants Caitlyn, but she's convinced him she wants to get on with her life back home. Caitlyn realizes she really wants Eli, but is convinced she has to stay in Sapphire Falls and help her brother - she can't be where Eli is. Eli is on the verge on being called up to the Bigs - the San Diego Friars, but his heart is in Sapphire Falls, as the guys on the team decide he has the "married look". He has his first start - on his birthday. And is surprised when his two best friends, and his girl, show up as a surprise. His buddies go out with the team after the game, but he wants time alone with Caitlyn. He has her convinced that she can split her time between Kilby and Sapphire Falls - even has someone interested in selling her sweets! But then Caitlyn gets the call - the one where they tell her her almost paraplegic brother has fallen - off of a mechanical bull. At the hospital, she knows that she has to get him home - and that she cannot stay - or commute to Kilby. So she goes home, leaving Eli and her dreams in Texas.

Getting Wound Up Part II is the continuation of Eli Anderson’s and Caitlyn Murray’s story. In this part, the reader finds out how Eli is fairing in Kilby, TX as part of the Kilby Catfish baseball team, and Caitlyn is back in Sapphire Falls working at the bakery.

I think my favorite scene in part II is when Caitlyn, Bryan and Ty surprised Eli by showing up at his big game in Kilby, TX. It showed the true bonds of friendship as they took a roadtrip to show support for their friend, and boy do they get into the spirit of it. I love stories that have best friends that appear throughout the story line because it gives the reader a little more information on the main character. I love the camaraderie and the unbreakable bond they have.

Once again, I cannot tell which part the authors penned. I am looking forward to part III to find out what happens to Eli and Caitlyn. Will Eli walk away from realizing his biggest dream of making it in the major leagues? Will Caitlyn let go of the feeling that she needs to be her brother’s caregiver so she can pursue her own happiness? I hope that will be soon answered. I will read on to find out.

Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard have collaborated together to bring you a crossover series between Sapphire Falls and Love Between the Bases in Getting Wound Up. This is a delightful story about Caitlyn and Eli who have been friends forever. Eli had a promising future as a professional baseball player until his father got sick and Eli quit school to come home and run the family hardware store. Caitlyn is his best friend's little sister that works at a bakery showing off her culinary skills with delicious treats to tempt a saint. Caitlyn takes Eli on a road trip under the pretense of her purchasing a car, when in actuality she is taking him to tryout for a professional baseball team and forcing him to take a chance and try to realize his own dream. This forces Eli to see Caitlyn in a different light in many ways. Does Eli make the team? Does he find out that his decision to leave school and take care of the family business was the right choice? Do Caitlyn and Eli have a future together or are there too many obstacles getting in their way of true happiness? You will have to read the third and final book to find out how it ends.

I am really enjoying this story and cannot wait for the last book in this series. I highly recommend this book.

Getting Wound Up is collaboration by Jennifer Bernard and Erin Nicholas. It is also a crossover book between their two series, Jennifer’s Love Between the Bases and Erin’s Sapphire Falls.

Part 2 begins where Part 1 ends. We learn that Eli Anderson made the team and will be traveling to Kilby, TX to play for the Catfish. Eli spends his days learning the game again and hanging with his teammates. It’s his nights that are difficult as he misses Caitlyn and seeing where this relationship can go.

Eli is surprised by Ty, Bryan, and Caitlyn on his birthday, which is also his first game as starting pitcher. He is over the moon happy and spends his free time with her. In the meantime, Caitlyn makes a connection to sell her sweets at the local ice cream shop, owned by the daughter of the Catfish’s manager. Eli is trying to figure out how to keep Caitlyn in Kilby instead of returning to Sapphire Falls. Then the unexpected happens. Bryan injures his hip and needs to return to Sapphire Falls for surgery. Will Caitlyn stay or will she go?

And the book just gets better and better. If you haven't read my review of Part 1 make sure to go and check it out. In Part 2 of Getting Wound Up the story continues. I honestly did not want to put this book down. Normally I cannot wait to get off the train in the morning in what can sometimes be a tedious daily Chicago commute. Not the case when reading this book! I have instantly fallen in the love with Eli and Caitlyn and couldn't wait to hear more about their story. Will they live happily ever after or will life interfere and come between them? Just like real life there are always curve balls that are thrown your way that seem to mess things up. Will Eli be able to anticipate the curve and hit one right back or will he strike out? Of course I will not give out any spoilers but I can say that Part 2 definitely was not disappointing. I simply cannot wait to see what Part 3 has in store for readers. Stay tuned. At this rate I will probably have Part 3 finished on my train ride home tonight.

I seriously can't get enough of this story. Watching Caitlyn and Eli's relationship turn into something more than one night was the highlight of part 2. Their chemistry is so hot and their love for each other is contagious. Eli is living his dream playing baseball and waiting to get called up to the major leagues. Caitlyn is missing Eli like crazy, but so proud of him and his accomplishments. Can they possibly make a long distant relationship work? Just as they were beginning to feel like they had a plan, the rug gets pulled out from under Caitlyn and Eli is left to wonder where he fits into her life. I absolutely can't wait to see how these two will get their happily ever after! You'll get a birthday surprise, some interesting roses, a sexy elevator ride, frosting and a whole lot of love and little heartache in this one!

Happy reading!!

I love this book! The combo of Erin Nicholas & Jennifer Bernard is brilliant. You can't tell who is writing which part. Part 2 takes up immediately after Part 1. Eli received the call up to the Catfish & is learning his way. Caitlyn, Bryan & Ty make the trip up to see him for his birthday & it ends up also being the first time Eli is the starting pitcher. The chemistry between Caitlyn & Eli is still the same and they begin to make plans to be together more when tragedy strikes (and not I'm not going to post a spoiler).

I was pulled back into the story immediately! My only complaint is that it was too short & we have to wait for Part 3! This is a tremendous story of friendship, family & traditional values. I love the way they have all of the characters lives intertwined and how they support each other. Whether you buy these installments or wait for the complete book to be published, you won't regret it

“You might not believe in yourself but I believe enough for both of us” is the sentiment for the 2nd installment of this series.

The story picks up with Eli “Nebraska” Anderson playing for the Kilby Catfish. Eli is trying to figure out why he can’t walk away from Caitlyn, when he has always been able to walk away from a woman before. Caitlyn Murray is back in Sapphire Falls trying to keep the town from figuring out that she is in love with Eli.

Caitlyn wants Eli to be happy, successful, confident and for all of his dreams to come true. Just as Caitlyn starts to believe that she can spend extended time in Kilby and Sapphire Falls a freak accident brings her back to reality and forces her to walk away from Eli, again.

This is a series and would be difficult to pick this story up without having read the first one. There isn’t a cliffhanger ending but you are left wanting the next book so you can see how Eli & Caitlyn get back together for their HEA.

Part 2 picks up with Eli getting "THE" call and heading out of Sapphire Falls to join the San Diego Friars Triple-A team the Kilby Catfish. Eli realizes how much baseball means to him, but also realizes Kaitlyn, more then he expected. When his first start falls on his birthday, Brian and Ty are ready for another kidnapping, but Kaitlyn is ready for the road-trip. The rest of the Catfish are just as happy to see Kaitlyn, and both start to wonder about something more permanent.
A wonderful continuation with moments that make you laugh out loud. I am anxious to find out what will happen next.
Stay tuned for the final part to see if Eli and Kaitlyn are meant to be, and where they are meant to be. The story is so much fun, the characters are so realistic and enjoyable, that waiting for the end is hard!

This is the second installment of the Getting Wound up book written by Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard. Caitlyn and Eli’s story continues and their chemistry just gets hotter and hotter.

The first segment involved a “kidnapping of sorts” and a road trip… segment two includes another road trip…this time to watch Eli pitch his first game and to celebrate his birthday. Caitlyn has some birthday surprises planned for him which include bacon roses and some cupcakes (stay tuned for some frosting fun!) Wink wink!

Eli and Caitlyn think they have their relationship all figured out when fate intervenes and they are forced to make some tough decisions. Can they make a long distance relationship work? Will Eli’s dream of playing in the major leagues come true? Will Caitlyn put her love for her family or can she see what her future might hold with Eli?

Stay tuned for part three!

Break out the Cracker Jack and let's all sing together "Take Me Out To The Ball Game".

This is a great collaboration between Jennifer Bernard and Erin Nicholas. We get a peak into both of their independent series, Erin's Sapphire Falls and Jennifer's Love Between the Bases with the Kilby Catfish baseball team.

This was a refreshing take on the Best Friend's Little Sister troupe. The book flowed very well and I couldn't tell which author's voice I was reading. I do suspect some of Erin's influence when it comes to the sweet treats that are spread around the book. I haven't read Jennifer Bernard's Love Between the Basis series, but I will now. I want to learn more about the Kilby Catfish team.

PS Now if anyone has a recipe for homemade cracker-jack let me know. I'm now craving this treat!

The Kilby Catfish. He made it. Eli is actually playing professional baseball. Only problem? He's missing Caitlyn something fierce.

Caitlyn is missing Eli too. But his birthday is coming up and she is the queen of birthday celebrations. She hops in the car and goes down to see him play. While there, she falls even more in love with not only Eli, but Kilby too.

Can Caitlyn and Eli figure out a way to make all of their dreams come true? Does Eli ever make it to play for San Diego? Does Caitlyn find a way to mix her love of sweets with her love for Eli and making his dreams come true?

I can't wait to read part 3 to find out!!!

I love this collaboration! This review is for the second installment in this three part series. Here we see Eli as a pitcher for the Kilby team and Caitlyn back home in Sapphire Falls. They still talked, but Eli thinks they are in two separate worlds right now, even though he wanted her by his side. When Eli finds out he is getting his start on his birthday, Ty, Bryan, and Caitlyn plan another road trip to surprise him and celebrate his birthday. When things don't go quite as planned during the after game celebrations, will this mark the end of Caitlyn and Eli or will they figure out how to be together in Part Three?

Things are looking up for Caitlyn and Eli, but is what they both want possible?

Oh my gosh! GETTING WOUND UP is full of warm fuzzies and some sniffles! I just love this mini-series! And you will not get spoilers from me! It’s too fab to ruin for anyone! GETTING WOUND UP has such a real baseball feel, a real small town feel, great characters all around, and such fun dialogue! Better yet, for such a short book, there were several totally unpredictable plot twists! Of course, there’s hot, playful sex, and great banter. And what a character that Bryan is! Just get this series, it is so worth it!

In part 2 Caitlyn and Eli's story continues as he plays baseball for the Kilby Catfish. His friend Ty, Bryan and Caitlyn surprise Eli with a visit on his birthday when he is the starting pitcher for his first game. In their time together Eli and Caitlyn take their relationship further. They talk of their dreams. But, how can they make a long distance relationship work? Things seem to fall into place and they progress to where there is hope for a future. Until tragedy strikes and changes everything.

Even though I knew what was coming it was still heartbreaking and I had to continue on to the final installment to find out if Caitlyn and Eli figure things out.

As Eli and Caitlyn's story continues, be prepared to be hungry, so eat before you read.  This second installment for me made me love their story more as they tightened their feelings for one another, as well as seemed to get support along with encouragement from their friends and family.  There were quite a few silly grins while reading along with a heartbreaking end that you can totally understand but still not like.  I am really going to need Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard to give me that happy ending.

This is part two in a three-part novel. As the story continues, it's Eli's birthday, he's the starting pitcher at today's game, he's super nervous and missing Caitlyn. She's got an awesome birthday surprise for him and all the other players will fall in love with her after this.

Not sure what's going to happen yet. I can't wait for the conclusion in part three.

A crossover book from two of my favorite authors, Jennifer Bernard and Erin Nicholas. Two of America's favorite past times, romance and baseball. Their two worlds collide Sapphire Falls meet Kilby Catfish Baseball. Loved the chemistry between Eli and Caitlyn. Caitlyn will not let Eli give up his dream of playing pro ball, even if it means kidnapping him, loved it. Add in that Eli is best friends with Caitlyn's brother, adds more to the story.

This is the second installment of the book, can't wait to read the final part. Loving the story of Eli and Caitlyn.

I just keep getting wound tighter with each part of this book. Caitlyn is killing me here but of course you expect no less than for her to take care of her family because that's just Caitlyn. I can so relate to her. And of course Eli won't make it any harder on her because he too knows what it's like to be in Caitlyn's shoes. I love characters that make you feel like you know or perhaps that they are alternate versions of yourself. I can't wait to see how this all plays out. Will it be a homerun or strikeout for Eli and Caitlyn?

Love this

Eli gets his dream. Caitlyn is back in Sapphire Falls. This book tells of the progression of Eli's dream up to his first game he starts. The guys on his team are awesome and constantly joke with him. He is enjoying his dream but misses Caitlyn. Ty and Bryan decide to do a road trip and decide to invite Caitlyn to come to see Eli play. The adventures of the road trip and game are awesome. Things happen, life happens Eli and Caitlyn happen, then reality sets in. Love this section of this story. Can't wait for the final book.

Part 2 starts off where Part 1 ended. Eli off in Texas playing ball and Caitlyn in Sapphire Falls. Eli's birthday is coming up and just happens the same day he is getting his first start pitching. Bryan, Ty and Caitlyn make the trip down to cheer him on. While down here Bryan and Ty give their ok for Eli and Caitlyn to be together. Even getting them a hotel room. Caitlyn is making plans to spend more time in Kilby with Eli until she gets a phone call. Everything changes. Can't wait to read Part 3.
