Konko Daijin. A Biography

Rate this book
The Konko faith was founded by Konko Daijin in Japan during the mid-19th century. Unlike other religions, it is not based on divine commandments, or rigid doctrines, nor does it seek enlightenment through meditation. The approach to understanding the Konko faith will not be through searching for such doctrines of divine commandments, but through the life of the individual believer. The nature of the Konko faith is best exemplified by its founder, Konko Daijin. Therefore, to learn how he lived is essential in order to understand the Konko faith. Konko Daijin was an ordinary farmer yet he was unique in that he was very conscientious and devout. Despite his devout adherences to traditional folk beliefs, he suffered many hardships and misfortunes. However, instead of being discouraged or embittered, he remained even more sincere and devout. This spiritual attitude caused a gradual evolution of his religious awareness which enabled him to rise above the confines of traditional folk religions and led to his awareness of Tenchi Kane no Kami, the Principle PArent of the Universe.
