Superhero and private detective Truman Lord must use all his powers and wits to try to find Clara Barton, a teenager with the ability to explode at will. Clara has been kidnapped by a shadowy terrorist organization which intends to take over the world.
Accompanied by a beautiful and deadly mercenary known only as Shadow, Truman plunges into a dark world of supervillains, crime, betrayal, terrorism, and religious fanaticism. Truman and Shadow race to try to rescue Clara before it is too late--for her, and for the rest of humanity!
Book Two of the Superhero Detective Series is full of action, intrigue, drama, and a dash of humor. It is a standalone novel that can be enjoyed without having read Book One, Superhero Detective For Hire.
THE MISSING EXPLODING GIRL is the second volume of the SUPERHERO DETECTIVE series. The book begins with a bang (pun intended) as a young Meta girl is used to blow up a Washington D.C. park only to be grabbed by her handling to continue serving as a living suicide bomb.
Sadly, as effective as this scene is, it hurts the narrative since it spells out exactly who is responsible and why at the start of the story. Despite this, I very much enjoyed the book as it follows Truman Lord, the series' Superhero Detective, on a quest to rescue a kidnapped girl from a cult of dangerous Meta extremists.
I really liked this book as it had a lot of twists and turns related to Clara. It also had Truman doing a lot of "real" detective work like investigating suspects, talking to witnesses, and getting various perspectives on the titular Exploding Girl. The hypocrisy of her family and cruelty of her treatment by them is handled with just enough deftness to be subtle.
The ending is a real gut punch and I give kudos to Darius Brasher for being willing to go there. It's not a dark novel but it has its dark moments. I also felt the protagonist and his "sidekick" had really good chemistry. I prefer him and Shadow to Truman's canonical love interest.
Darius Brasher has crafted another gripping story about a likeable superhero with a good heart. This story is well written and I could not put it down once I started reading. The ending was unexpected but very real. I look forward to reading more of the authors books.
This has got to be one of the best books I've read this entire summer. I actually bought it as the second in the series to see if Brasner's second would be as good as the first, and it turned out to be even better! Now I've GOT to buy the next one.😕
Enjoyed the plot, the banter back and forth between all of the characters in this book. I also would have to say the book never bogged down, or was slow. A great read from the start.
The first book set the tone of the.main character but this book did mich.more to flesh out the character. The main character has a soul and I cared so much more about the story. Excellent book.
I read the author's Caped series and enjoyed it. I didn't know how much I enjoyed his detective "Truman" until I got a chance to read this series. I really like his sense of humor and the super heroes are a nice twist to the noir detective genre.
I am so engrossed by these books! I’ve never read a series quite like them and I truly love the characters and the world they are in. What a great read!
Brasher has written a number of great books in this genre, but I think this story is a master work. The characters are will defined and the plot pulls you in. This is one of the books you consume in a single read.
I really liked how the main character was more fully developed and became more real. I saw at least one obvious use for his abilities to incapacitate people that was missed (mild hypothermia), but the rest of the plot line more than made up for this oversight.
Don't let the rather generic-sounding title fool you, Truman Lord is a wonderful new hero. He's brave, ethical, sarcastic and well rounded. The first two books are quite entertaining, I expect this series to get better with every paragraph.
