Novelist, poet, singer, drummer and journalist Michael J. Vaughn conducts a thorough inquiry into the world of creativity, including the perspectives of such wide-ranging artists as Molly Ringwald, David Baldacci, science essayist Diane Ackerman, poet laureate Charles Simic, opera singer Betany Coffland and ballerina Karen Gabay. The book includes several of Vaughn's articles for Writer's Digest, including "Creative Lollygagging," "Anatomy of a Best-Seller" and "Meeting of the Minds," an exploration of left-brain/right-brain discoveries with pioneering brain science author Gabriele Rico. Less a "how-to" than a "why-not?," Interplay illustrates the many faces of creativity and the thrills and struggles of the artistic life.
Michael J. Vaughn is the author of 29 novels, including Punks for the Opera and Mermaids' Tears. He is also a fine arts painter, and drummer/vocalist for San Jose's El Camino Revival Band.
A book on creativity that should be interesting. At first a little strange, then interesting, then weird.....and I'm only 1/3 through it. Oh my. I take a break then plod on. Now it's weirder than I can imagine. I'm up to my gills in weirdness! I can't possibly give up, not on a chance for an insight into creativity. I continue on, I pick up speed, something is starting to make sense. Oh my. I'm witnessing creativity expressed in weirdness! I'm starting to like it. I feel relief as well as pride that I didn't give up. Mr. Vaughn thank you for expressing weird in such creative ways.
