Can you have a future if you don’t know your past?

Jayden has done his best to forget the first part of his life, the part that happened before he arrived in Whitedell. He’s managed pretty well—he has friends, a job, and he even meets his mate. And who cares if said mate stays in his bear form even after Jayden stumbled on him in the woods surrounding the mansion?

Heath doesn’t know who he is or what happened to him. He can’t remember anything prior to meeting Jayden, and he longs to know his past. Luckily for him, his parents are looking for him, and it takes only a few days for them to meet.

Jayden and Heath have been doing well, slowly getting to know each other, but when Heath meets his family again, he discovers he already has a boyfriend. On top of that, Jayden’s brother suddenly resurfaces, and the mysterious hunters strike again. Will Jayden lose Heath almost before even having him?

Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters.
She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back.
She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.

This was book 16 in the "Whitedell Pride" series. Jayden is a weasel shifter who loves to read and who talks a lot while out walking he comes across a bear shifter who was about to attack him when he realizes they are mates. Heath has been in his bear form for the last few weeks when he comes across Jayden. When Dominic and Nate are waiting to capture the man wanting information about the pride Heath stumbles into them Jayden tells him that he is his mate Dominic forces him to shift. Turns out Heath's parents are looking for him and when they come to the mansion they bring with them Will his long-term boyfriend. Jayden also gets a call from his 14 year old brother he was beaten by the leader of his former gang and that his mother has died. I felt bad for both Jayden and Heath, but I felt that it was something missing from this book. The pride was very welcoming to Heath and Jayden's little brother Teddy. This book was well written like the rest of the books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

3.5 STARS

This book throws us straight into some action, with the beginning here overlapping the events at the end of Shad’s story. So if you’ve already read that book (which I recommend you do before starting this one), then you already know how that little bit of drama turns out. But it was great to see the incident play out from a different view point, from Jayden’s viewpoint, because his priorities were obviously not the same as Shad’s or Gabriel’s.

Jayden has discovered his mate! His mate is a bear shifter…and actually, that’s all he can tell you. Although he recognizes his mate, and the bear obviously recognizes Jayden, he has yet to see his mate as anything other than a bear. He doesn’t know his name, where he came from, or why he seems to be stuck in his shifted form. But when Dominic uses his alpha powers to force the bear to shift into his human, the confused man still can’t offer much information. He thinks his name is Heath, but everything else is just gone. Luckily for Heath he has Jayden to cling to, a mate means he’s not alone, and of course the pride is there to help out in any way they can.

I have a weakness for this series, and while I actually liked both Jayden and Heath, I thought maybe everything here happened a little too easily. There was great potential for some real drama with Heath’s boyfriend , and it felt as though the tension was always simmering there just waiting to ignite (which created some delicious tension btw) but then he simply stepped aside. And I understand that shifters are conditioned to have to do that if the person they are dating or even married to meets their fated mate, but still, a bit more drama would have been entertaining.

I appreciated the fact that Heath didn’t get his memory back, or if it does happen eventually, it didn’t happen right away in this book. I also enjoyed the addition of Jayden’s brother. Although he’s a teenager rather than a child, I like the way this author incorporates well-written kids into some of her stories.

This book ends with a bit of a da-da-daaaa moment, so I’m very excited to have the next story, Wes, just sitting here ready to go!

Summary:

The chance meeting between Jayden and his mate, Heath, at night while Heath was in his shifted form was fascinating. Heath's bear recognized who Jayden was before he was forced to shift by the pack alpha. To have no idea who you are or where you come from must leave you feeling lost, but Heath must have felt comforted to have Jayden to lean on at that horrible time in his life. If that wasn't bad enough, Jayden and Heath's troubles were just starting as Heath's family reappears and Jayden's little brother calls for help before the hunter's struck again leaving everyone in high alert as they struggle to survive. To experience Heath's anguish over not knowing his family was terrible, but Jayden's support helped him to deal with those feelings while creating new memories. The bond between they faces many challenges, but their growing love may stand the test of time if they believe in each other. It was wonderful how the lives and loves of the many characters in the Whitedell Pride continue to unfold enriching the story line.

I have no idea why I am still so engaged in this series. I don't usually have the attention span for a 16 book series. Add in the Gillham Pack series and we are at about 23 books give or take, and I am still anticipating each and every book.

I really did not enjoy this book. It dragged the entire time! Heath has amnesia but still recognizes jayden as his mate which was fine with me but their actual relationship was so uninspired. Even with heath finding out he already had a long term boyfriend, there was no added drama from it at all. It was just boring and I'm so bummed. Normally these books aren't like this. .

I thought that this was a great new entry into the series. I enjoyed Jayden and thought his relationship with Heath was sweet, well paced, and fun to read about. Can't wait to see what happens next!

I like the style of the last few books. The ends and beginnings overlap but with a different viewpoint.
