In a world filled with centaurs, merfolk, and tales of long forgotten dragons, elf royal Kalyah ventures from the safety of her castle home and comes face to face with the mysterious Nadir, a centaur of Krumwharl, a beastly race known for their savagery.

But as she delves deeper into the world outside her walls, she finds that not everything is as it seems. Even the smallest of steps can cause the biggest ripples as her actions begin to shake her perspective of everything she thought she knew
Once I started this, I couldn't stop. I'm now looking forward to the sequel. I'd definitely suggest this book to any fantasy lover. The heroine is relatable, as are the friends she meets along her journey. It's an enjoyable ride. The characters will stay with you afterwards.
What would you do, how would you feel if everything you knew was a lie? That's just what our heroine has to answer. I think everyone can relate to finding themselves a fish out of water. Sometimes home is in the last place you would think to look for it.
So give this book a chance, you'll be glad you did.
I had the opportunity to be one of the first to read Mist Deep, and the author has created a story that captivated me and transported me on an adventure in another world. This is a story that is both enthralling and beautiful. An absolute must-read.
The story focuses on Kalyah, daughter of an elf king, and considered a disappointment by many due to her seeming inability to draw magic from the earth. She sets out to prove herself worthy, and this kickstarts a chain of events that will shatter the world that she thought she knew, and thrust her headfirst into a brand new one. That's the basic outline, I can't give too much else away without treading into spoilers.
Like Kalyah, the reader is going through this journey with her. Discovering and learning new things about the world, and the history of the lands. It's an intriguing and fascinating read that guides the reader along with quick, yet detailed pacing that never feels bogged down or rushed. It tells just enough to describe the emotion, but also keeps some things hidden and up for debate with its debate on magic, history of the land, and how history can be manipulated by those in power. It's a true self-discovery journey for Kalyah, as she not only tries to better herself with magic but discover more of who she is and who she wants to be.
Honestly, while this story has many positives, its strongest aspect is the main character herself. Kalyah is headstrong and brash at times, but still has a kind heart and willingness to learn and improve. She has her flaws but tries to do her best to overcome them. We not only see her character develop over the course of the story, but we experience it. We feel her adapt, learn and change. We see her build relationships with other characters, each with varying degrees of compatibility and conflict. And it also helps that we have a batch of complex and well-rounded supporting characters to keep our interest all the way through.
I don't want to say too much more, as this is a story worth experiencing for yourself. It's a real page-turner with twists, drama, excitement and adventure.
Do you want to be taken into a magical, addictive and captivating world? Then R. J. Longbottom has just what you need.
A writer whose prose is elegant, descriptive, and undeniably compelling. The subject matter is spellbinding, but it is her writing that makes this book nothing less than a page-turner. The fantasy world has a huge following. For example, Lord of The Rings. This author creates her own sensational world, with rules unfamiliar to humans. Some creatures are bound to accept that one world is the only one worth living in. Others are ruthlessly ambitious, or simply enchanted by the prospect of another world, beyond their own.
The sights and sounds in this journey are second to none. It takes a gifted author to depict such a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. Which is a crucial theme of the book: fantastical imagery. So quite rightly so, we the reader, take the scenic route. We delve into unforgettable sights highlighted through steadily chosen words and phrases. Personally, when I recall whether or not I’ve read a book, I think of images that ran through my mind while reading it. And this novel isn’t short of those. In fact, given its length, this book isn’t short in any way whatsoever.
Yet beyond the mesmerising world lurks intrigue and danger. It lures and entices, then destroys. Every world has its conflicts, some more dangerous than others. This author has used all the key ingredients to devise a superbly enthralling world, plus added some extras which will become apparent when you take this unforgettable journey.
Has it been a while since you read a fantasy book? Or have you never had the pleasure of enjoying one? Well break from your genre, live a little, and delve into Mist Deep. You will not regret it.
You have extraordinary characters, complex situations, excellent twists and buckets of anticipation. What more could you want? Oh, great writing? Yes, it has that too. Trust that you are in good hands when taken on this wild ride.
That’s all great, but what is the story actually about? I hear ya! So we have Kalyah, daughter to Hesperia’s powerful elf king, a magnificent character. But she is disappointed upon discovering she can’t do what the rest of her people can do, which is draw magic from the earth. See there is something you should know about Kalyah, she has a certain affliction which makes her an outcast among her kind, even by her own family. This rejection compels Kalyah to find her own self-worth by proving magic is not the be-all and end-all. So, determined, she ventures from the safety of her castle into a world with unknown dangers. Some of which she hadn’t even considered, until she cannot escape them.
