Sherri Wingler is the author of The Immortal Sorrows and The Dark Woods series. She lives and works (way more than full-time) in Indiana. Sherri shares her home with her husband, Steve, too many rescued kitty cats, and one co-dependent Shih Tzu named Spanky. (Without Spanky's help, Wings of Darkness would have been finished much sooner!) When she isn't writing, or working in the real world, her spare time is spent raising money for various animal charities, in the hopes of saving at least a few little critters. Sherri is currently hard at work on the next book in The Immortal Sorrows series. For more information visit www.sherriwingler.com
I am a HUGE fan of the immortal Sorrows series and am currently, impatiently, awaiting the 3rd book in the series. This prequel was an answer to my prayers, a little taste to keep me going until the next instalment. I am a sucker for the baddies, I love a good villain and Clotho- AKA Fate – is about as bad as they come. I was intrigued to find out more about her back-story and why she was such an almighty cow! Firstly despite this being a prequel and thus shorter than the rest of the series, the authors engaging style was not sacrificed, nor was the story rushed as sometimes shorter fiction pieces can be. Clotho is character you love to hate and this prequel introduces us to her pre-vengeful loony. As we meet her family and see the obstacles which stand between her and her true love Asher, I think I understood her a little better. I love her feisty cruel streak and the fact that, even though she is Fate, she has absolutely no control over her own. I enjoyed meeting Suriel, who indulged my bad-boy fixation and was delighted by a twist involving a favourite character (no spoilers but my fellow Sorrowers will know who I mean). This is a perfect introduction to an epic series for those who have not yet read books 1 and 2 and is a lovely filler for those of us waiting for our next Asher and Izzy fix.
Wishing I had time to sit down and devour the entire series in one day. The main character Clotho is so relatable. I can feel her determination and drive as if it is my own. Can't wait to start book 1
"Clotho has everything; beauty, power, and immortality. She has everything she could ever want, except the love of the one she wants the most. Witness the moment when obsession turns to hate… and love to madness."
Author’s Note: This is a short story and serves as the prequel of “The Immortal Sorrows” series. Attached is a free sample of book 1, “Wings of Darkness.”
I have read and loved the first two books in the 'Immortal Sorrows Series' a wonderful YA, paranormal read about Angels, Demons & Immortals.
This little prequel features an introduction to Clotho the woman who is to become the immortal known to us as 'Fate' a character we will love to hate. Her heart is set on a Reaper known as Ashrael the 'Angel of Death' and this is how she describes him in the story
"He was as beautiful as any angel in the heavens. Beautiful and deadly. From the top of his golden head to the tips of his darkened wings, he was perfection."
Also in the prequel we are introduced to a couple of other prominent characters from the series besides Ashrael the beautiful reaper, we meet Suriel a dark Archangel plus Cronus who is 'Time' himself, an Immortal whom her Mother had warned her about:-
"Time consumes everything in his path. He may do so with a smile upon his face, but he will do it nevertheless. Do not underestimate him, and do not cross him."
Book 1 'The Wings of Darkness' is one of my all time favourite reads. It has such wonderful and descriptive passages in it. The following from the very beginning of the book the most beautiful of all:-
From 'Wings of Darkness' "I did not lay a hand on her, and yet her soul floated free above her body. It hung there, a beautiful shade of shimmering rose gold, an old soul in a young body. I shook my head, as if she could see me. Her name came to me when I touched her. Isabel. An old-fashioned name for one so young."
These are wonderful stories and I urge lovers of the paranormal especially stories of angels & demons to take up the series and read. I am sure most will fall into their charm and become fans. Especially of the intoxicating Reapers Ashrael or his brother Samael known as Grim, many fans simply love a bad boy.
Don't take my word for it, the only way you will know is to try the books for yourself. Happy Reading :-)
I was lucky enough to stumble on Ms. Wingler's first novel via KU...and then commenced to hunt down and devour her 2nd novel in one sitting..work.. of course when I came upon this little prequel gem, I was thinking yes! late Christmas present. The prequel provides a glimpse of Clotho..aka, Fate her perspective, her evilness and heartbreak...but it also helped me understand her a little better and set the stage of the first book. just well written and as her other novels I felt I was part of the story..why I enjoy Sherri Wingler's novels...and this little gem
Great short story! This is a must read following the Wings of Darkness series. Gives you a back story of the evilness of Clotho aka Fate. So glad I found this series!!!! Can not wait for more from this author!
Good prequel to a great series. Like always, wish it was longer. Would have like more details on Clotho and how she got the position, the events were brief.
Having just devoured both of the current books in the Immortal Sorrows series I was excited to see more by this author. Without wanting to give anything away Fate is featured in both of the former books and A Glimpse into Darkness is a tiny prequel to them that gives her side of the story before the turmoil began.
It is only a taster and as with all of this author’s books it is exquisitely written. It could certainly have been expanded on more and maybe that is something the author will do at a later date. If you are reading this book first then think of it as a soupçon of what is to come. The next two books will blow you away.
I almost didn't want to read about Fate, however, my curiosity of her craziness had to be satisfied. She was already messed up before she tried to snag Ashrael and then she sealed her own fate by attempting to twist his. I would've liked to see Asher explain why he wasn't interested in her advances. Had he been witness to her evilness before? Was he completely unfeeling at the time or interested in someone else? Clotho may be Fate, but it's nice to know she can be replaced!
