Daylen Daniels and Chase McCoy are as different as night and day. Chase is the beautiful golden boy. Gorgeous, popular, and the quarterback of the football team. Daylen is the quiet introvert. Lovely curves, shy, and sees herself as an orchestra geek. After Day moves next door to Chase, a run-in with a bully, a domestic dispute, and one treehouse hideout, an impenetrable bond is made.
As they grow up, their attraction for each other grows with them, but is it strong enough to risk their friendship? A party, a little game of spin the bottle, and a devious enemy could shake the very foundation of their friendship. Or it could start a tumultuous romance that spans decades.
Take a journey with these two best friends through first love, heartbreak and tragedy from childhood to adulthood as the two find that young love isn't as strong as they'd hoped. A story of true growing pains in…Chasing Day.
I was born and raised in Joliet, IL. I wrote my first story in the 3rd grade and fell in love with creating my own world. But throughout the years I have lacked the discipline to actually sit down and write. Even with a minor in Creative Writing (which should have been my major). I have been a avid romance novel reader since Jr. High and have read hundreds. I have lived in Chicago, Japan, California and now reside in Arizona. And I wanted nothing more than to combine my love of romance, writing and traveling and put them in a book. So one day out of the blue while in the middle of reading another book, the story that I had started months ago kept bombarding my every thought. Until I couldn't even continue to read the book I was in the middle of. I put down my Nook and picked up my laptop and about fifteen days later, I had finished my first draft of my manuscript. It was the most exhilarating moment of my life. To know that I finally did it. That I finally finished something that I had started. And now I'm and AUTHOR and PUBLISHER! I never would have thought that was possible three months ago. I just hope that everyone that picks up any of the books I write from here on out, enjoy them as much as I did writing them.
What a difference from Twyla Turner's Struck series to this one. I see a lot of growth in Turner's writing with this book. I enjoyed the build up of Day and Chase's relationship. But I'm holding my full review until I read the conclusion Catching Day. See you then. For now, I give this book a 3.95.
Title: Chasing Day Author: Twyla Turner Genre: Romance Format: Ebook – part of anthology Pages: 219 Rating: 5 Heat: 5
Main Characters: Daylen & Chase
Thoughts: I read this as part of the Men Love Curves Anthology. Dang cliffhanger!!! I was hooked right from the start and moaned when it ended. The writing was just awesome, and the characters were so easy to love. This story really shows how hard relationships really are, even when you are in love. The struggles of long distance relationships, or how just life, emotions, and pride get in the way of what we want or know we should do but can’t. Gripping story that won’t let go until the very end, which then leaves you screaming for more!
This story is so so good that I almost screamed when it came to an end.The writer gives us such a very wonderful experience that you are just WOW!I love this full story and the full telling of this couple life.If you have not indulged then you are missing out. This is very good writing and their is pleasure in the telling.
This is the love story of Chase and Daylen who meet in elementary school, become best friends and eventually lovers down the road. You're told in the beginning that the book will span 30 years (though not all 30 years is revealed in this installment) but other than a few references to songs/fashion, told ahead of time what year things are now unfolding in, there's not much to make you feel like you've taken a trip back into time. That would have been a nice touch to have, but I digress.
I always find myself making a point to comment on the editing, and though I don't want to nitpick, this could have benefited from an extra pair of eyes or two. There were periods in the wrong spot when there should have been commas; a lot of grammatical errors and such, but it wasn't completely distracting unless you're a stickler for proper punctuation/grammar. I'm not the best at it either, but if you're publishing something for profit, put out your best presentation. Other than that, the writing itself was, it wasn't flowery, nor made you think about anything deeper. It was straightforward writing that, at times, did become a little choppy and clunky.
What did I think about the relationship between Chase and Daylen? I thought they were very sweet, and you rooted for them to be together and to be able to maintain their relationship. There was a period where things turned emotional and you could feel that. I didn't learn much about them, but I was engaged with the journey of their story especially towards the end. It would have been nice to see them talk about things, anything really to help flesh out their personalities a bit more.
This is my second novel by this author, and the couples she's created, they have a soft spot in my heart because no one tries to usurp anyone's agency. The guys aren't a-holes, which is always refreshing. To read about nice guys who love their women as equals and not as possessions to lord over. So she definitely gets points for that. Off to go read the conclusion of this series.
2.75 stars. Chase McCoy and Daylen "Day" Daniels have many things in common : their birthdays are a day apart in the same month, their houses are in the same neighborhood next to each other and they attend the same school; but are a grade apart because Chase is a year older than Day. Aside from gender, they are of different races, he's White and she's Black; they have a different home life environment, Chase's family lives on his father's disability checks in a home overshadowed by fear because of his drunken abusive father and his complacent withdrawn mother; while Day lives in a single parent home, her mother is kind and supportive of Day and earns a middle class wage as a nurse practitioner; at school, Chase is popular while Day is the subject of bulling. Day being bulled and Chase being her protector is the catalyst of their friendship and the beginning of their temporarily how-be-it secret mutual romantic attraction. By age 14 and 15, they acknowledged their feelings for each other and by age 18 and 19, they consummated their feelings. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance story themes so, I like this story and its protagonists-BUT with this caveat: this book's storyline is hindered by unnecessary predictable fillers; in other words, the author should tighten the storyline and marry book 2 to this story letting the drama of Chase's and Day's argument and separation play out as a stand alone book. KUB #15
Chase and Day(len) are really likable characters. Chase the hottest guy in school and Day the nerdy new girl next door. Neither are perfect and that makes the characters more relate-able. In many ways this story has been told before but it was still fun to read and watch the characters grow. Cliche components include the wilder other friends, the mean girl who wants the leading man and the shy guy who is interested in the nerdy girl. There is part of me that wanted to deduct stars because the story line is not that original but I am not because it was still a fun read. I also appreciated how the author addressed alcoholism, and depression even though it wasn't a large part of the story the impact on the story was wide spread.
I finished the book late one night and stayed up reading the second half because I NEEDED resolution.
Daylen was new to the area and Chase protected her from being bullied when they were in elementary school.
Daylen became Chase's crutch very early, from their childhood. Chase's life was always going to bubble over and losing his mom was the catlyst. He lived a life that he should have been talking to a professional about.
As a child, he did not have a say in the decisions his parents made, but when he got out in college, that was the time to address his childhood experiences.
Daylen saw him as her savior and wanted to be there for him because of his home life. However, she was not equipped to hold him accountable to his response to the painful events in his life.
The story of Chase and Day. There journey started when they were youngsters. Their bond as friends was unbreakable, but as lovers it was rather bumpy. Everytime something got a angsty the author brought the story together in a way you wanted to continue reading. I will be reading Catching Day in the next couple of days. I really feel bad for Chase, he didn't have the emotional temerity to handle losing his mother, so he became his father. I want to read about his fight back to normalcy and Days time with Rhys. I didn't like Rhys creepy stalker behavior...peeping out the blinds. He set Day up when he found she was vulnerable...
I truly enjoyed this story! It took you through areas in life that you tend to try and ignore. Bullying is awful to have to endure in any time of your life. Alcoholism can become a family curse if the problem that causes it is not dealt with. Ms Turner did an awesome job dealing with these issues in this series. Loved the chemistry between Chase and Daylan it was just so hot🔥! I highly recommend this series to all my fellow romance readers! You will not be disappointed!
Chase had a hard childhood and Daylen , his “Pretty Day” as he called her is what made his life bearable. Day and her mom was his safe heaven. Day fell in love with him at the age of 9 when he defended and protected her from being bullied & he was 10 … she was his best friend and confidant… they became inseparable… inevitable that they fell in love . Lot of things, circumstances, tragedy … etc will get in their way… and both of them will be broken . See for yourself! Ok book 2 is awaiting me !!
This story is enthralling and held my attention from beginning to end. I love how it takes you through their stages of life, so we get to experience their happiness, anguish, and everything in between with them. I love how protective Day and Chase are of each other and that they are each other's first for a lot of things. I love that this story progress over time and we see how they handle life and its issues.
This is in your face no hiding the ugly. You see the good and the worst no binders to keep you from the real pain. I love this author work. I so real you can feel the characters emotions with each page. I love work that takes you there an leave you like what hell. I was so caught up in the book i was scared when it s suddenly ended. I am reading book 2. This is goldenglobe good. Ok.
Wow! It’s official official I’m a Twlya Turner fan. Each book I’ve read has raised the bar and I know I’m reading her work out of chronological order. I didn’t know what to expect from this book and I doubted that I would enjoy reading about a couple that spanned 30 years. Well she proved me wrong. I enjoyed each second. And that ending... whew! I can’t wait to read the conclusion. Because like Mrs. Daniel’s I’m rooting for Day and Chase.
How to start. Thus book is about how kids that meet and become friends. One popular the other a nerd and plus size. It goes thru years of them knowing each other and many misunderstandings. Heart wrenching mistakes roller coaster of feelings. My favorite is the 1st time they have sex it is so sweet. I read the second book right after as well. I was just introduced to Twyla from another authors Facebook group. I love her style and her books give me the feels.
This review encompasses both parts/books. It was a really well-written (apart from a few grammar issues) love story that spanned over 25 years. No one point/conflict was beaten to death or harped on so story flowed well. Great spicyness as well. Definitely not perfect but I’d have rated it 4 stars were it not for one of the choices the author made for the heroine, which I disliked a lot because there is no excuse imo.
As a tribute to this wonderful woman and author lost too soon. I’m reading her books. I’ve already read quite a few of her books. Please read these two and listen to the Spotify playlist she put together for these books. It’s excellent and brings back memories from that time. Chase and Day have such vast memories and such a long history. Watching them have anguish in their lives and hearts breaks mine. Looking forward to the next book.
My first read of this author was her book, His Muse, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So I decided to check out some of her other books. This was a fantastic read also. I loved following Chase and Day's journey. So much hurt, sadness, love as well as anger experienced by both parties.
OMG, this was really a great story! I loved the closeness and chemistry between Daylin and Chase and the love they have for each other. So many obstacles! But, I'm antxious to know what happens between them. This is a book that EVERYONE will enjoy! I will definitely recommend it to others!
I love these two. Chase has so much to overcome and he's struggling. He loves Day but he's never seen a healthy relationship and doesn't know how to make one work. We know they love each other but sometimes love just isn't enough. I can't wait to read the second book in this series.
Such a well written enjoyable bool! You really go on the journey of growth with the characters and feel so invested in their lives. I love the way you she deals with all the relationships, both good and bad. It feels authentic and well thought out. Even sensitive subjects are handled well. Love this book so much. I wish it didn't end lol
Why did I have this book in my kindle for four years and never read it. Reading about Dalen and Chase falling in love since childhood is like watching a movie. The ups and downs they were going through was so sad. When Chase lost his mom his life just started going to pieces with his drinking. I can't wait to find out what happens next. Very good book.
Chase and Day's story was excellent! They begin as childhood best friends who finally express their true feelings for each other nine years later. Day is Chase's family, his own father being an abusive drunk who terrorizes Chase's mother and keeps he and his mom apart. Day's love is what sustains him...until tragedy rips them apart.
I have had this book on my kindle for a while now, but never got around to reading it. I so glad I finally read it. I’ve read plenty of books by Ms. Turner, but this one is definitely one my favorites. Chase and Daylen story captivates you from the beginning. Loved it.
This is an older book that up by accident, I am so glad it did. I am so upset at how Chase turned out so far. He doesn't care that she is fat. Although, I am so sick of us being fat. ALL BLACK WOMEN AREN'T FAT. Good book. Daylen and her mom are awesome. I love this book. I think I am purchasing it did to be in my library to read when I want.
This is yet another 5 star story. The emotions are so strong in every word this author writes. Chase and Day's relationship is so....damn awesome! Moving on to the next installment.
Enjoyed the development of the characters and their misunderstandings of love. Interested enough to read the second book in the series as soon as I ended this first book.
Talk about a great story. I’m speechless. This story gave me everything I could ask for everything I didn’t even know I needed. Definitely worth the read. I couldn’t stop reading I had to finish in one sitting.
a sweet story going way back when two children supported each other by meetings in their tree house. Although it is quite a feat to keep a story running for twenty years having those lengthy flashbacks like built-in cliffhangers is annoying.
Daylen and Chase's journey was wonderful to read and experience. There have been some ups and downs that happen in many relationships that makes this story engaging and relatable. Very well written. Can't wait to see what comes next for these two!
Great book ! I am so rooting for those 2 kids to make it work. Day is such a sweetheart, and Chase... Our boy Chase has so much issues to deal with. But am sure they gonna find their way back to each other.
