This story was a hot mess, and while it had potential to be good, it was just incomplete and in bad need of editing. On page 20, Astrid states that she has long red hair that she hasn’t bothered to fix in the year since her husband’s funeral, but then on page 44, she’s looking in the mirror at her pale blonde hair. Inconsistencies like this are annoying and take the reader out of the story.
Astrid’s emotions are all over the place, to where she mopes and cries for three weeks straight but then has dreams of her deceased husband and suddenly she’s able to accept loving Garrett without any qualms. And Garrett, who is probably in his mid- to late thirties since he was the business partner of Astrid’s deceased husband, is throwing nightly wild college frat parties at his mansion all while he’s not even in attendance at them—and there’s absolutely no explanation for why a respected businessman in the community would do this or how he even knows these college kids. And they’re partying hard to the point where extremely full, used condoms are flying off the blades of the ceiling fan in the master bedroom. This entire situation doesn’t make any sense and made the book highly unbelievable.
And the story just ends after they have sex and Garrett declares that Astrid should move in. Really? Does she? That’s not even a HFN in my book—it’s just giving up without resolving anything about their relationship which was the whole point of why I read the story. I was left feeling unsatisfied and disappointed that I invested my time in reading this story.

I hardly read romantic and erotic books and was a bit anxious because I thought this book was of an overtly sexual nature. However, I was pleasantly surprised and happy that I took the plunge. Black widow is a collection of two steamy romantic stories. The first story revolved around Astrid Philips, a 26 year old widow who lost her rich older husband a year ago due to a heart attack and she blames herself for his death. She shuts herself out to the world until she is called to help out her friend, Marie who runs a cleaning company. Unknown to her, the house she goes to clean is owned by her late husband’s business partner, Garrett, who has a vendetta against her. The second story is about Raina who is in a loveless relationship with her live-in boyfriend Jason and needs to do something to kick-start her life. On her way to a sky diving session, her car breaks down and she meets Tool, a dangerous and handsome biker. Even though I preferred the first story i.e. Astrid Philips’ story to the bonus one, I found both stories very captivating, easy to read and enjoyable. They are both page turners with good story lines and are sensual without being too erotic. I also thought the length of both stories were perfect i.e. long enough to be captivating but not too long to become boring. They were also very well-written and I look forward to reading more titles from the author.
The first story tells a tale of two rich people, one a widow who is constantly being accused of killing her husband for his money and his rich business partner. Although she hates him, they fall for each other in an intense, steamy way. The second story is about a freshman college girl who falls for a senior football star who takes her virginity. She becomes a news reporter who ends up having to interview him. This makes for an interesting story that can have different endings. I look forward to how both turn out.
Steamy Between the Pages! This was great! I haven't read a romance novel - like a real full fledge romance novel - in a long, long time! I loved falling in love with the characters, and enjoying both of their personalities. If you're looking for a good, fun romance novel - you will NOT be disappointed by this. I really enjoyed Garrett - he was great. I was left wanting to go read more of SM Kingdom's romance novels! Thanks for the read!
