Liora Day’s fate entwined with the crew the day she joined the SS Kratos. Fleeing the Coalition in their attempt to destroy the Omne Occasus before it falls into the wrong hands, the captain and crew band together to save not only their ship, but the fate of the Macrocosm against those who would use the machine for harm. Liora’s heart is caught by Tariq, the damaged, brooding medical officer, but his past is entwined with hers in a way that makes a relationship nearly impossible. Despite their acceptance, Liora’s presence endangers the ship, the crew, and everyone she meets. She must confront both the demons of her youth and the dangers of running from the Coalition in her fight to save not only the galaxy, but also what is left of her heart.

I really enjoyed this one. I'll be honest, it's light sci-fi brain candy. You won't find anything life altering here. But it's been enjoyable enough that I've already purchased the rest of the series. I doubt I'll be disappointed.
My only major complaint is that the first two books were short enough that I really think they should have been just one book. Daylight (book 2) even starts off with chapter 1 literally repeating the final chapter of Daybreak (book 1), with much of the text repeated and with only some minor changes in perspective. It feels like book one was cut short to give it a good cliffhanger, when instead it should have just continued.
Other than that, minor quibbles include that the universe seems awfully small for so many people to coincidentally meet up in the ways they do. Also, the coalition and rebels seem poorly defined overall. And the coalition's behavior on attacking their ship when they have [big spoiler thing that could blow up a galaxy] on board seems kind of unfathomable. But hey, it's a story, and something's gotta drive the plot.
Because of this, I'll be dropping a star on my last review, but I feel this one made up for it well enough, and I look forward to the rest of the series.
Fast paced action all the way through. I like the characters, though the bridge crew aren't quite as well developed, and a touch forgettable. The relationships are sweet and not cringy. The action is well written, but there's a lack of detail in the follow up which leaves it sometimes confusing.
I'm really liking the series, but I think it could do with a touch of editing to make this amazing.
Great read! Bravery and friendship, compassion and forgiveness, strength to overcome deadly circumstances, and love... those are the main aspects that describe this book. I didn't like this book... I LOVED it!!! This is one of the best series I have read, and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, I do. This is book two of trilogy and I enjoyed greatly both books. Can't wait for the final one.
This book does great as a high action space opera adventure. The characterization was adequate but the emotional punch of the story left me wanting. Maybe it was the mood I was in at the time I read it but it didn't sustain me until the end so I put it down. I might check out the author again in the future though.
Daylight, the second book of the Girl from the Stars series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). A wonderful continuation of the series. Plenty of action, fast-pace, and interesting characters. A great series
Dramatic quest continues, and don't forget the big reveals!
I loved the development of Liora and Tariq's relationship as they escape the clutches of the Coalition and head to Tariq's home planet. We get to really dig into his issues with her species, their conflicted but ever more romantic relationship, and learn a lot about the background of Tariq and Devren while on their home planet. Their ship finds them there, not unsurprisingly, and there are many battles ahead of them. They have to brave Coalition space in order to figure out the next step in their quest, and while they do find out what they need to, it's hard to accomplish with the Coalition on their tail and a universe of unpleasant things that will happily attack a damaged ship! Again they succeed in accomplishing one quest objective while getting in deep trouble and nearly getting themselves killed—first by Damaclans, then Obruo! Devren, Tariq, Liora, and Hyrin (their pilot) are stuck in a landing craft with nowhere to go, only to be rescued by a new player they don't know whether to trust or not. But it's a big reveal when we learn who it is, and very satisfying.
Like book one, this is definitely a series, and there's little to no introduction to the characters that we met in book one. There's also a big cliffhanger readying us for the next book. We've had more setting depth throughout this book. It seems like each time they make progress on their quest, they get set backward at the same time. I'm not sure how many more books there will be, but it seems like there's always one more thing that Liora and her friends need to accomplish. Looking forward to book three!
I received a free beta reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Exciting space adventure with a few new revelations about the main character, and some romance. It took me a while to catch up with what was going on, as it's been a year since I read the last book. This one dives right in as if it were merely the next chapter of the previous book. I noticed that as well in the author’s “Haunted High” series. There’s no context for the current situation; it’s as if you had merely turned a page, not started a new book with a considerable time lapse since the last one. There are lots of battles and miraculous escapes. One secondary character sacrifices himself, and his death doesn't affect me until we meet his family. There was another moving scene towards the end. My usual reading style is to skim when I'm bored, and I did a bit of that here. I'm only interested in action, not descriptions or internal dialogue. Typos: Fazed is spelled phased, you're is spelled your, en route is written as on route.
Read book one and grabbed book two after. I also added audio. Started listening when cooking dinner and finished same night. The story continues with action and obstacles to overcome. This is part two and ends with a cliffhanger/ lead in to the next book. A little romance is developing with Tariq. There are some unexpected moments . Not sure what will happen next, but I want to read the next book. Narration is good. Pacing and voices kept me engaged in the story.
Book 2 lost me, it was a struggle to get even halfway through even though I enjoyed the first book. Actual text from Book 1 was repeated a few times, the copious planet-side action was just uninteresting and uninspiring. The author should stick more to space, in my opinion, as she writes it much better. The strongly-telegraphed future love triangle doesn’t interest me either: presumably angst over it will fill up plenty more pages, but I’m quitting now as there seem to be very many more books in the series!
Strong female character with very supportive characters both male and female interwoven into an exciting story set in space. Waiting to read the next book in the series as I couldn't put this one down wondering how she was going to react to the various different stressors she came up against including both her anger and the anger of others because of her face/origin. Story really shows how much racial issues can create conflict but getting to know each other can help with understanding.
Non-stop action. Right when I think the Kratos is out of danger another ship's trying to vaporize them in space. In the midst of this Liora's beginning to come into her own understanding of being half human. Well written. No excess page space in the in-between journey to the ship's next destination. A good read. I couldn't put the book down. I'm determined to read through the entire series over the next few days. I recommend this series and I'm only on the third book!
I like the plot and the character development and I'm looking forward to seeing more this universe in the following books. I've read several books from several different series by this author and she is fast becoming one of the regular authors in my Kindle unlimited queue
I have submitted this review after listening to the audio book of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)
So, how do you dispose of a weapon that can destroy a galaxy? There's a lot of people who seem to want to stop Liora and the crew from finding that question answered and even a lot more that do not want the solution being carried out.
This another good booj. Ok did not want to put it down. A few times the chapter changed scenes where I thought it wold be the begining if another chapter but it flowed rather nicely. You really get into rooting for the main character.
This book was an enjoyable escape for a few hours. This is not Shakespeare, but who cares? This book is perfect for allowing me to read and relax and look forward to the next volume in the series.
What a ride. So much happening and the turns and twists in the story especially between the characters kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat...and how about the twist at the end?
Better organized than book one and better characterization. These characters are relatable. Also, more character in the space cadets. Now she has family and potential lovers!! What’s next??
I really enjoyed all the character development. I did get very frustrated with the ship being attacked constantly. I was very surprised at the ending & can’t wait to read the next book.
This book series just keeps getting better with each page that turns, I love the twisted plots some I see coming but others are like a bolt of lightning lol great story with plenty of action but also gentle points as well
Great writing! The development of the characters is very well done. The plot is intriguing. There are supisises at every turn the biggest is finding out she has a brother, a family! 5 stars. I can't wait to read the next book.
Seriously? I think I'm getting through each book faster. I'm so glad that I got the whole series and that I don't have to pause. The tension between Tariq and Liora is off the charts! I thought for sure that something was going to happen with Devren? And OMG, who knew so much about Liora???
I enjoyed reading enjoyed the first book also this one took me longer to read was a bit confusing in some spots off to kindle unlimited to see if it is there.
I love this series! The pace is great and there’s much adventure to be had. The characters are very interesting and I can’t wait to read the next book.
I love this series! Again, I just hate that it leaves you hanging between books! But it will keep you reading and with KU at least it's for free! Great read!
I loved Daybreak and the story gets better in Daylight. Action; Adventure; Romance; Family and saving galaxies. So much fun and well written. Looking forward to Day's End
