Alone on Valentine’s Day, Leo Rankin attends the library’s Blind Date With a Book event hoping for something he can take to bed with him that night, and finds himself competing against Gerri Webb for the last remaining book. Wild child Gerri is not his usual type. Yet he feels an immediate, sizzling attraction and agrees to share the book and its accompanying bag of candy hearts.

The whole idea of a Blind Date With a Book is to go off genre, so Gerri doesn’t mind when their flirty conversation suggests they unwrap each other rather than the mystery book. When a candy heart advises, “Ask Me,” she asks Leo back to her apartment. She never expects button-down Leo to hit all her buttons, but by the next morning she fears her heart’s in danger. Can one night spent off genre translate to real life?

ASK ME (A Candy Hearts Romance) by Laura Strickland
Reviewed by Peggy Jaeger
5 stars*****

ASK ME, by Laura Strickland, asks one very important question: do opposites really attract, and the answer is a resounding “Yes!”

History professor Leo Rankin and tattoo artist Geraldine “Gerry” Webb are as different from one another as chalk is from cheese. When they both find themselves alone on Valentine’s day, they venture to their local library to attend the BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK event, billed as a way for people to vault out of their literary ruts and discover new genres and authors. What Leo and Gerry discover is an attraction to one another that neither makes sense nor seems plausible. Along with the book (wrapped so the title is unknown, hence the BLIND part of the program), they are given a bag of candy Sweethearts, which seem to hold only one message on the embossed candies: ASK ME. So, when faced with that question and the undeniable attraction between them, Gerry “asks” Leo if he’d like to come home with her and not be relegated to spending Valentine’s Night alone. His affirmative answer surprises them both.

Opposites in every way, Leo and Gerry at the same time seem made for one another and doomed. Persistence, though, runs through Leo Rankin like his life’s blood and when he wants something, his tenacity knows no end. And he wants Gerry Webb.
Getting her to admit she wants him just as much is a task he is up for.

ASK ME was a delightful, romantic read and I highly recommend you add it to your Valentine’s reading list. Hopeful romanticism is a genre everyone can enjoy reading, no matter if you’re a staid professor or a carefree artist.

When Leo and Gerri both decide to give Blind Date with a Book a chance they both step outside their comfort zone and into new worlds. Reading a good book can do that for you, but they both see taking a chance with a new person can give a jolt too.
Hesitant to move forward, but pulled by desire and intrigue, Gerri must decide whether to put aside their differences and trust her feelings. Leo’s efforts are out of character for him, but he’s never felt this strong about someone and willing to put his heart out on the line.
Can they cross more than just genres and make their Valentine’s Day meeting the start of something real?

Both without a date on Valentine's Day, Leo and Gerri decide to try something outside their comfort zone. The result is a deep attraction, and smoldering chemistry.

I loved this book. It's a cute short story of how opposites attract and I enjoyed every minute of it. I really enjoyed how the author seamlessly wove in the title and candy hearts saying into the story. I recommend this book as a fun addition to your Valentine's reading list.

Great Blind Date!

This story was a great read. Such a great idea for a blind date, I really could relate with the two characters and how opposites did attract on this blind date. Leo is a history teacher and Gerri is a tattoo artist. Could you get these two any different but they seemed to click together. I really enjoyed this story.

I recommend this story.

Loved it! Gerri and Leo come from two different worlds, yet they're perfect for each other. The author does a good job of showing how their relationship grows and deepens, and in the end we know they'll be together forever. I highly recommend Ask Me!

So this was a wonderful story, and I really liked the idea of Blind Date With a Book. What I found the most interesting about this book, other than the fabulous story and wonderful characters is how it made me feel after I finished it. 'Ask Me' left me feeling as if I had a little push of my own, to get out of my comfort zone, and be ready to try new things and mainly take a chance. Not a bad way to feel after reading this wonderful story. Loved the characters and story, totally advise adding it to your need to read list.

I loved this well written story of two opposites attracting! And I totally loved the premise of the cute-meet: the local library offering "blind date with a book." How awesome!

The library meant that the books were all wrapped so the reader doesn't know what they are checking out until they get it home. With only one book left on the shelf for the promotion, our two main characters decide to take things a little more literally and share the book, as well as a Valentine's date.

Things progress and get steamy, until fear of the unknown puts a chill into things. She's a tattoo artist and he's a college professor. Two totally different worlds, and the pair have trouble realizing how perfect they are for each other.

Told in alternating viewpoints, the author does a wonderful job of showing the insecurities on both sides as well as the longing for acceptance and love. Initially, I thought the story would be darker or edgier - both the cover art and idea of a tattoo artist led me down that thought path - but the story is light and fun.I enjoyed the author's style and can't wait to read more of her works! 5 candy hearts for this sweet and sexy story!

“Ask Me” is an enchanting story about two very unlike people who are spending Valentine’s Day alone, but stop at their local library and check out a book called “Blind Date with a Book." This involves checking out a wrapped book without knowing the title and taking it home to read which forces the reader to step out of his comfort zone and take a chance on something new. Along with the book, the reader receives a small bag of candy hearts with sayings on them. Both history professor Leo Rankin and tattoo artist Gerri Webb arrive just before closing and end up having to share the same book.

And then. . . the fireworks begins! Leo and Geraldine are complete opposites—handsome straight-laced educator versus steampunk beauty—and yet they are attracted to each other and decide to walk on the wild side and have a one night stand, no strings attached. But are they capable of walking away? Can two opposites be attracted to each other? Can they live in worlds so different from each other?

Laura Strickland writes in a witty and touching style that keeps you turning the pages until the end. And the passion and spicy romance are an added bonus. Well done!

First of all, you’ve got to love a story that begins with a library and books! Next, put together two characters who are exact opposites.

Leo Rankin, a rather staid history professor, has his hands full with tattoo artist Geri Webb. When they agree to spend one wild night together you just know they won’t be able to walk away. Thank goodness.

How cute is ‘blind date and a book’?

This was a fun, quick read. Opposites attract and these two aren’t sure whether or not that’s a good thing for a lasting relationship. I like that they’re taking a chance on someone outside their norm and love the way it works out. I’d give this 4 & 1/2 stars.

Laura Strickland has penned an amazing story around the concept of blind date with a book. This story grabbed me on page one and wouldn’t let me go until the final satisfying page.
