Does a Bear Shift in the Woods

Rate this book
I’m a loner for a reason. I don’t have much in the way of social skills. I’d rather sit on my deck and watch the sunset than hit a tavern with coworkers. My idea of grooming is to trim my beard with a straight blade when it hits my collarbone. I can’t put two words together in the company of a pretty woman…and they don’t come much prettier than wolf-shifter Madison Thorne.

She’s everything I’m not—outgoing, easy on the eyes, and sweet. There’s no way I’m convincing her to come home with me. Fortunately I don’t have to. Maddie seems to like my gruff, unpolished self. At least, she likes me enough for one night.

The problem is getting her to stay forever.

I could have possibly liked this because of how completely clueless the guy was in how to romance a girl. He thought that bringing her a dead deer body was a sweet gesture. That's cute! But, then our clueless guy suddenly has complete knowledge of a dom/sub relationship? Really? He realizes his girl is a submissive and that he needs to "take care of those needs" like a good dominant. *sigh*

Can't we just have funny bear smut? Why does every series think there needs to be some 50 Shades crap included? Bear smut can stand on its own four paws without having to drag out that old tired trope!

What a delicious kinky little thing and I loved it!

Dixon said Alexa Riley's smutty stories inspired her to write these novellas, but you know what, Ruby Dixon handled short, steamy and insta-love so much better!!! Because these stories are imaginative, have some decent character development in under 90 pages - and they are funny.
No cardboard cutouts and no repetitive boring sex scenes here, ladies.

Quiet and intense bear-shifter Chance turned out to be the most perfect dominant to sassy submissive wolf-shifter Madison - and damn, were they HOT!! I think it was my favourite in the series.

So yeah, I totally recommend.

Book 4 in Bear Bites.
And this was definitely my favourite out of the four books.
It is fast paced. The events take place in less than two days.
Chance is the perfect unpolished grumpy dirty-talker dominant werebear.
Maddie is the cutest feisty playful submissive werewolf.
In the end the big bad bear wil eat the little wolf.

"In the old days, I could just drag her off an no one would bat an eye. She's got my scent on her and that's enough to keep the predators away today, but when it wears off, the other shifters in this area will be beating a path to her door, and some of them are going to know what they're doing with this wooing business."

CHANCE IS IN MY MAN DUNGEON.

He actually did the cave man thing. He was the strong, quiet, brooding sort. And he had a beard. *faints*

So hot. Bangity bang.

I wish this one was longer, that ending seemed to come out of nowhere. I need MORE.

Love you Ruby Dixon.

Hmmm. The hero was a straight up asshole until the 45-50% marker, but he totally redeemed himself by the end of the book. I found his naivete kind of cute, especially when he got a little desperate to make the heroine happy. The h, on the other hand, I found stupid and inconsistent. One moment, she was a cool, strong woman, and the next, she was a pushover with feather for brains.

I didn't care for the light BDSM play, too. Not a fan, sorry. But yeah, overall, it's a flat 3.0 star rating for me, which means that I liked it but I didn't love it.

Hoo boy this was another hot one! Maddie, a submissive wolf shifter, new to town, and Chase the reclusive were-bear sure were steaming up these pages. I loved the smexy times and it was one of the hotter books from the series. I did enjoy the story but it could have used a little more. I didn't understand the sudden change from Chase so it lowered my rating some. Still a good series that I recommend for anyone looking for a quick, sexy read.

It was a cute read. I read the first chapter as an excerpt from another book and I really liked it. It's a super short and sweet smut-ish shifter book. I say smutish because there is some steam, but usually in smutty books it's throughout the book and this one was just had one part. Easy read, hit the right spot.

Highly readable small town PNR novella with a lumbersexual bear-shifter H and submissive wolf-shifter h. Both of them have some baggage but they soon get over it and have a HEA. The HEA part seemed a bit abrupt and this story could have really used an epilogue.

This series gave me unalloyed enjoyment, the H's were really like bears gruff, growly and reclusive. It was a refreshing difference from the pack mentality and power plays seen in other shifter books like wolves, dragons etc. It was nice that the novellas were character driven and concentrated on the romance without also drafting in some unnecessary suspense/thriller stuff that so many PNRs do.

Hope Ruby Dixon continues surprising us in other romance sub-genres - after MC-romances, SFR and PNR, I'm curious whats next!

Get Your Shift Together is the second book in Ruby Dixon's newest (Bear Bites) series of novellas—wherein the tiny, off-the-beaten-path town of Pine Falls, which is inhabited by both humans and Shifters...

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

It was bad enough that wolf-shifter, Madison Thorn's, ex-boyfriend found his mate, but it was worse when he offered Madison a position in their bedroom. Shocked and hurt from her ex's offer, Madison flees the pack to run in new woods—the woods of Pine Falls...

...where she's determined not to let the thought of a mate rule her life. Instead, she focuses on her career as a stylist—except no one seems to be taking her serious; only thinking her eyes are on the look-out for love.

So to prove her heart is locked in a cage, Madison makes a bet with her friends: the next person to walk into the bar will receive a complete makeover, courtesy of Madison.

Although she didn't expect bear-shifter Chance Eddington to stomp into the bar with his dirty boots, overgrown beard, and deep, brooding scowl—and actually agree to the Madison-Makeover...

...after she had sex with him, of course.

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

Does a Bear Shift in the Woods is another well-written novella by Ruby Dixon that's teeming with sexy scenes and smut-loving characters.

Light BDSM makes an appearance (Bear Bites, #4) which is a nice dynamic given both Chance and Madison's preferences between the sheets. And I actually really enjoyed Ruby Dixon's take on female wolf-shiter's and their instinctual submissiveness—it was a refreshing change from the usual m/f-fight-for-dominance that is expected of shifter romances.

I've wished for more explanation/development in the characters and the entire (Bear Bites) world, and I'm happy to admit that Does a Bear Shift in the Woods gave that to me. I got a deeper peak into the nature of the shifter's in (Bear Bites) as well as better understanding of the main characters, which made it easier to connect with them

Ultimately, I really do look forward to watching this series continue to evolve into something grrrrrrr-reat! And of course I would recommend Does a Bear Shift in the Woods—especially for those readers who seek short, slightly over-the-top, smutty paranormal romance books.

Another quick read from this series. I'm not sure which one I liked more, the first or this last book, hmm. Both had great characters (main and secondary) and plot but I think this one wins because of Chance's alpha personality. Yummy!

description

If I'm honest, the first time Madison sees Chance I was like, 'OK, not sure what she sees in him'. He was all filthy from his work and didn't look so sexy at that time. Thankfully, she and her friends made a deal to do a make over for the next person that walks into the bar. And of course, that person was Chance and if we are brutally honest here, he needed that make over, pronto! Not that I'd ever say that to his face, I'm not suicidal.

description

What happened next left me quite shocked. Chance agreed to the make over but under one condition. You see, he's more of a doer than talker. So, what happened next was actually quite hot, I loved when he got all alpha. He just threw Madison over his shoulder to take her home and the in morning she could do whatever she wanted with his hair. Easy peasy, right?

description

All I can say is that for a bear who didn't believe in mates and for a lone wolf who wanted it all, they fell hard and fast. Also, I loved their funny moments, especially Chance's courtship. As the saying goes 'Love goes through the stomach'. ;)

I lick my lips and stare at the dead deer on the floor. It looks obscenely out of place in the chi-chi spa.

All in all is this story great for a quick read. :D

Probably my favorite of the series. I loved Chance. I am not sure I would appreciate his style of courting , but it totally worked for a wolf shifter! And was so sweet!

The D/s thing was just a little awkward so I could not give 5 stars. But I still really enjoyed it!

Well, this one was certainly hot! I think overall, it was probably my least favorite. I know, I know, I'm probably in the minority here. It was definitely a smut fest lol. I was looking for just a little more story with these two. I wanted more...something.

I think Chance had the potential to be my favorite type of hero, OTT possessive. He was an asshole though, to start with. I was just starting to get annoyed with him then he brought Maddie his "gift" and got his head out of his ass. I liked the fact Maddie wasn't willing to stay with him if he couldn't be what she needed.

I have totally enjoyed this series. I would love to see it continue *hint, hint.

Chance and Madison are kinky as hell and I loved every second of it. Maddy is a submissive and Chance hits all the right buttons with his alpha tendencies. Their beginning is abrupt but full of super sexy moments. The gun shy Maddy decides to turn away from the feelings after some poorly made comments from the previously anti-mating Chance but things get resolved eventually. I absolutely LOVED the gesture Chance makes at the spa. I totally melted. All in all a super cute OTT insta love story. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing after they meet and get together. Neither are Vs. No condoms. No rape/abuse. There is pushing away.

I adored this entire series! These books are hot as shift! Ruby Dixon (who brought you Ice Planet Barbarians) takes on the insta-obssesed alpha shifter hero trope with her unique brand of humour and turns it into something adorably cute and toe-curlingly swoon-worthy with her pack of bears who growl their way through life and who are more than ready to lay down and curl up in the lap of their mate.

Even if shifter or paranormal romance is not your thing, you will absolutely love short novellas as they are fairly low on the paranormal but very high on loveable, sexy heroes and the curvy and sassy heroines they’re obsessed with.

I’m obsessed with all of these men and I am not ashamed to admit that my fantasies now include falling into a cuddly den of bear hugs and fur petting.

Does A Bear Shift In The Woods

It’s extremely hard to pick a favorite from a whole series of favorites, and yet, here we are. This right here,is without a doubt, my absolute favorite of the whole Bear Bites series so far.

Maddie is a wolf shifter. After some… uncomfortable shift… went down with her previous pack and its new alpha she decided to move to Pine Falls to get a fresh start. One that has absolutely nothing to do with men. Only one small problem with that idea… since she’s the new shifter in town everyone is convinced she’s there to mate and everything single and with four paws is sniffing around her ass. After a night in a bar batting off yet another offer at mating, and in an attempt to prove to the whole town that she’s actually really just there to be the new stylist, honest, she accepts a dare from her friends to give a makeover to next person to walk into the bar. The next person who walks in? Chance Eddington. Well, shift!

Chance is a loner, a bear shifter doing his best impression of a Yeti and ornery in his best mood who, after watching his dad become only shadow of his former self after losing his mate, wants absolutely nothing to do with the female species. As soon as Chance gets a whiff of Maddie he realises she’s his mate but he has absolutely no intention of letting her into his heart forever. Chance instead decides that the answer is to simply have her for a night in exchange for him allowing her to give him a makeover and then be done with it.

With the road to hell being paved by good intentions and all that, Chance only needs one taste of Maddie to change his mind. But Maddie is having none of it even it was the best sex she’s ever had. Welp, shift happens and Maddie just needs to deal with an alpha who is putting all his energy into making her his. This is where the good shift starts to happen as Maddie is being wooed by a grunting bear who really has very little idea of or patience with actual romance. He wants Maddie and in his mind, Maddie just needs to get it together and accept the fact that they’re fated, or he’ll force her.

Chance’s misguided attempts at romantic gestures were incredibly cute and the compromises he is willing to make to be with her even more so. I absolutely love a gruff and emotionally stunted hero who is fuelled by a single minded determination to get the woman he loves and Chance is one of the best! The sexy times in this novella were extremely hot and dirty so just forego wearing panties whilst reading this instalment. Definitely read this!

Another hot read. It's about Chance, a bear shifter and Maddie, a wolf shifter.

Maddie just got out from her old pack when her ex-boyfriend became the new alpha and told her there'd be room in his bed for her and his female alpha. She went away to start fresh.

When she moved to Pine Falls, she just wanted to be single and just work. But no one believed her. So Adelaide and Ryann told her that she needed to give someone a makeover and that someone would be the next one to walk into the bar. It's Chance.

She approached him and talked to him. He told her that she can do anything she wants with him after they have sex. Both of them didn't want to mate. He didn't believe in mates because of what happened to his father and she just wanted to be single because of her last relationship.

After the sex, she told him it's time to go and that's when he realized that he didn't want her to go. But because of her past, she chose to go home.

But Chance didn't give up and tried to woo her. A funny way of wooing her. After he brought her back home, they talked and cleared everything out.

All four books were hot. I just want to know what will happen in their future. An epilogue or even babies or something. All of the books were HFN.

"Does a Bear Shift in the Woods" is the story of Maddie and Chance.

A bear reluctant to mate meets a wolf running from her pack, they engage in some kinky hanky panky, discovering their love for each other in this super sweet and sexy insta love novella.
I ADORED the cover (hell yeah, FRAGGY!), the submissive heroine who knew her limits, the super sweet alpha hero and all the carrying around- which was pretty hot!

Enjoyed this!

This was a cute quickie with insta-lust/love between shifters in a small shifter town. There isn’t a whole lot of backstory or melodrama. It was short and to the point. The chemistry between the MCs is explosive and the banter is hilarious and clinches this one for me!

Quick Recap
Maddie is new in town and not looking for a relationship, not even the random-for-fun hookups most shifters are used to. To prove she’s serious about settling down solo, she aims to pick a random stranger and completely make them over. From head to toe.

Lucky her, that the first person to walk through the door and seal her fate is bear shifter, Chance. Big, burly, muscled and cranky, Chance has managed to steer clear of relationship entanglements and prefers it that way. After watching his father completely loose it after his mate died, Chance wants nothing to do with that kind of grief.

But one whiff of Maddie and Chance is hooked. This was such a fun lighthearted read. I was sad to see it end!

What I loved:
This was equal parts sweet, steamy, romantic and funny. The perfect mix. For a short read, both MCs were genuine and the banter really brought them to life.

What I didn't like:
The ending felt way too rushed - I was so into Maddie and Chance and how flipping adorable these two were that when I tapped the screen to keep reading I was sad to see there was nothing left to it. Not even an epilogue!

Memorable Moments:
Thanks to a GR friend for putting this book on my radar by mentions Chance’s special brand of flirting. Chance wooing his girl with a dead deer was as funny and weirdly endearing as expected. Loved that scene.

Would I recommend?
Yes, it’s worth a read for lovers of insta-love, shifter PRN and quickies.

I can't decide whether I want Chance or Mal more, then i thought "Why the hell am I debating this with myself. I can just have both of them." So move along ladies, I've claimed them.

Can I just say that I want more of Pine Falls, who wouldn't want to stay there.

This one was a different novella that I haven't seen before and it's not because it has a bear and a wolf but it's because the hero actually doesn't want a mate but is dominating. I really like how the romance took on a deeper level because of their back stories despite it being a short book.

The hero was weeeeird. There's broody type, and then there's the grown-up teenager type. The hero fell into the latter category. And the plot was common but still funny.

As per the norm with this series, there's insta love and insta sex.

My ration for anything insta ends with this serious for a looong time I hope. It was a enjoyable journey but man, I've got to take a break.

4.5 Sexy Shifting Stars

**WARNING: SOME PARTS OF THIS REVIEW ARE REPEATED IN EACH BOOK OF THE SERIES' REVIEW AS THE INFORMATION PERTAINS TO THE SERIES AS A WHOLE, BUT EACH BOOK WAS REVIEWED INDIVIDUALLY AS WELL.**

Confession:HOT COVERS and CLEVER TITLES are what drew me to this series because until the Bear Bites Series I was a "shifter virgin". You heard me right. I sat back judgingly for a long time thinking everyone else was nuts for reading this genre and I was the only sane one for abstaining. I was wrong and I say I was wrong!

I ADORE this series and I am officially going to expand my horizons to other shifter series solely because of how much I enjoyed this one! If that's not a glowing endorsement, I don't know what is.

Now down to the facts. Chance and Madison are the only couple in the series...so far... that are both shifters which was a nice change of pace from the first three. I also loved that the storyline went in the direction of dominant/submissive given that Chance was a Bear Shifter and Madison was a wolf shifter. It felt right to me and I ate it up.

I think I was one of the few people that thought Chance was HOT from the first moment he entered the story. Maybe it's my personal taste but I don't mind a hot moody man who's dirty from a long days work. That sounds like my kind of MAN! I understand the feeling that he was being an ass but I thought it was appropriate given his character. He Is dominant and HOT AS HELL! My favorite of all the H's in this series so far!

Madison was interesting to me. I almost didn't want to like her at the beginning. I found it kind of obnoxious that her goal and main focus are becoming a stylist that is taken seriously. I mean she knows she is in an area that is covered up with hot male shifters and she chooses this time and place to focus on her career? Good luck with that Madison, I would be looking for my MATE if I were in Pine Falls. :)

I loved Chance and Madison's interactions from beginning to end. They were both skeptical about the concept of "mating for life" and for very different reasons. I love that there were layers to the story where both overcame their fears over getting hurt to take a CHANCE on each other. I enjoyed the light BDSM and sex A LOT! My only complaint is I would have loved more of everything.

My review comes with the warning that this is a series of NOVELLAS, in other words these are short quick reads so there is no time for extra detail or character development. With that being said I sat down one night thinking, "why not" and figured if I wasn't into it, I wouldn't have committed much time and a day later I had finished all four. I was consumed!

No, no, and no.
This is another case in which the book cover and the synopsis were better than the actual story.

And you know what's worse than reading a bad read? A bad read that starts off promising...then takes a nosedive into Crapland.
The writing was fine; the premise of a wild mountain man loner falling for the new chick in town was intriguing. And there were some laugh out loud moments (with the male character, Chance).
Unfortunately, this devolved into a lame Dom/Sub story, with an instant "You're my mate, and I'm your mate' ending.

Must remove from my Kindle now!

My second favourite story, but this one has the best title and the hottest cover so it wins.

And the venison thing? Totally priceless.
What the hell does she want? I spent three hours tracking just the right buck for her. Not too young but not so old that the meat would be tough and leathery. I dragged the carcass here in front of her human pack and laid the trophy at her feet. She looked at me like I was crazy.

Is there really only going to be four? Because that leader of the pack everyone keeps mentioning could use his own story.
