Cuba - a land of classic cars, beautiful beaches, salsa music, and the best cigars in the world. As diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States starts to improve, everyone wants a piece of the action. When Mike’s friend, Jack Trout, asks Kelly and Mike to join his wife and him on an exploratory trip to a Cuban island, it’s an invitation they can’t resist. Mike’s dream of fly fishing the saltwater flats on the exotic island is quickly replaced when he’s asked by the local constable to help solve the murder of a British fly fishing guide, Dudley Samms. Jack becomes a suspect and his wife, Carola, asks Kelly to help solve the crime.
Plenty of quirky characters have reasons to wish Dudley dead, but who killed him? The Englishman who is the head of one of the largest international banks in the world? The American with no visible means of support, but who has plenty of money to fish all around the world? The victim’s wife? One of the Cuban fishing guides? Or was it Jack?
This is the eighth book in the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series.
This cute story brings us to a land of classic car, beautiful beaches, salsa music and the best cigar in the world. Putting my thoughts together I swing my hips to the beat of the music now playing in my head...ok. I will cool it. Jack Trout, his friend Mike and their spouses set off on an exploratory trip to a Cuban island. Their dream of fly fishing the saltwater flats was quickly replace when a local constable ask to help to solve the murder of a British fly fishing guide. Jack fast becomes the main suspect...and the investigation starts...
What a different mystery this turned out to be. I love how the wives went about solving this murder, they used all the assets to discover what they wanted and they succeeded at every turn. Everything is so lively from the characters, the food, the music and Cayo (the cat). Cuba in this story is still frozen in time before the embargo on US citizens. On the streets of Cuba are old 50’s American cars, they only serve Cuban beer and local rum , but the food is out of this world and the people are warm, friendly and beautiful. The murder mystery is a soft one no graphic scenes to make us shiver but enough to leave a picture in our mind. The style is a bit stilted at time so is the narrative but in whole this story is quite captivating and I enjoyed passing time with it.
Ok I want a Mojito please
Fly fishing is the reason this group went to Cuba but this mystery gives us a trip to a beautiful place along with its culture and food and is easy to read, entertaining and unpredictable. Well-done.
Fans of the Cedar Bay mysteries are going to fly through this latest installment.
MURDER IN CUBA in all honesty is not a book I would normally read. I have no interest in fishing, nor in Cuba, I do however enjoy author Dianne Harmon’s wring, so I was willing to give it a try. I’m happy I did.
Ms. Harmon’s descriptions made the book come to life. Knowing that most of the story was based on her own trip, minus the murder, really came through in the author’s writing.
All in all I did really enjoy the story. It’s a good mystery that moved quickly to reach a satisfying conclusion.
You’re also going to find some yummy recipes at the back of the book!
Murder in Cuba is another fun, quick read by Dianne Harman, with glimpses of Cuba providing a backdrop to this lighthearted murder mystery. Vintage automobiles and other images described by the author, resonate with a place frozen in time since Cuba was last open to U.S. tourism. The natural beauty of this island nation also shines through in the story. There’s food, too, as in Kelly’s Koffee Shop and the other stories in the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery series. Murder in Cuba also features an introduction to, of all things, fly-fishing. It's an integral part of the story and part of the reason Kelly and her husband, Mike, journey to Cuba. When Dudley Samms, fly-fishing guide is found murdered, the story is off and running. Do Kelly and Mike’s friends belong on the quirky list of suspects? Did Carola or Jack kill Dudley? If not, whodunit? You’ll have to read this latest installment in the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery series to find out.
I gave this book a five star rating because I thought in was just as enjoyable as her other books in the series. The characters are fun to follow and the storyline is always entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone.
I really enjoyed this book. The setting of Cuba is a very different setting for the mystery to take place and I enjoyed the taste and a little bit of back history about the place. The reason for being there was very different too, I don't think I have read a book about fishing before. Don't worry you don't get bogged down with how to cast a rod or technical fishing terms because the story does focus on the mystery, oh and food, well you do get some Cuban recipes at the end of the story. The mystery it's self is interesting with a good group of characters, I especially liked the addition of the cheeky cat. Look forward to more of this series. When the Cuba embargo is lifted Jack Trout asks his good friend Mike if he and his wife Kelly if would like to join him fly fishing, while he competes to become there new fishing guide. It soon turns into a working holiday for Mike as Sheriff when one of the other applicants dies. He knows his friend didn't kill the man but can be prove it? Kelly can't just sit on the beach and relax while there is a good chance that Jack could spend the rest of his life in a Cuban jail. Time to start asking questions and find the motive behind the murder. I liked the narrator, she has a distinct voice that she uses well. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
An exotic, cozy animal mystery. Mike, Kelly, Jack, and Carola are on a Cuban resort island to test the waters for an exclusive contract about fly fishing. Unfortunately, Jack's competition from Britain ends up dead. Mike is enlisted to help solve the case, but Kelly isn't about to stay out of it with Jack's freedom in the balance.
Diane Harmon has done a brilliant job of detailing the island, the culture, and the food in addition to the mystery. Occasionally, the writing style is stilted. Nevertheless, the story is quite entertaining.
This is # 8 in the Cedar Bay series. And this is my favorite series by Dianne Harman. Kelly and Mike have headed to Cuba. Mike was invited there by his friend Jack to get a chance to do some fly fishing. The next thing you know one of the fishermen is found murdered. And Mike is off to help with the investigation. And Kelly and Jack’s wife are doing some secret investigating on their own. Kelly is adopted by another animal but Mike keeps telling her they can not adopt another animal. There are fun characters, humorous scenes, and yummy food throughout the story!
This is the 8th in the series. The main characters are Kelly and her hubby Sheriff Mike. Mike is invites to join a guide friend on a trip to fly fish in Cuba. Kelly gets to go along. At first they just seem to meet some people who send up red flags. Then one of the guides is murdered. Kelly starts investigating and then it looks like their friend is going to be murdered and in the middle of a hurricane. Can Kelly get everything figured out in time ?
This time it's a cat that "adopts" Kelly. They are in Cuba so Mike can go fishing, but (this is hardly a spoiler) Mike doesn't get to do much fishing because there is a murder and he is asked to help. There is a lot of local color and vivid descriptions.
Very interesting location, a small island south of Cuba, a murder, a hurricane, and an attempted murder, with younger Oregon sheriff and his wife as some of the clients. An excellent story with characters that make one want to move to their town of it was real.😉
What a perfect book to make you want to visit Cuba!
Loved the descriptions of the beautiful island. Made me want to sit on the beach and enjoy the no stick sand. The good sounded wonderful. The recipes are a must try. What more can one ask for loved it. If I could of give it 10 🌟 thank you for your work on this book it was approve
Good story and characters, and a cute cuban calico cat, what's not to love with very few typos too. Mohitos, pollo con arrozo, tres leche cake and arrozo con leche yum rum drinks aren't my thing but chicken and rice, cake and rice pudding I can appreciate and solving a murder during a hurricane, wow.
I found this story good. Maybe not my favorite in this series but still good. Once again Dianne Harman takers us on an adventure away from Cedar Cove. This time we find ourselves in Cuba on a fly fishing excursion. I look forward to more in this series.
Kelly and Mike head south to relax and their vacation turns into murder. The remote island of Cuba definitely stirs up competition to be chosen for the title of best fly fishing guide. As they work to clear their friend's name, he almost dies ~
Getting the contract for tourists to go fly-fishing in Cuba leads to murder. An enjoyable mix of nosey, eaves dropping women and murder for professional gain. Throw in a stray cat, multiple suspects, good food, and you have a fun, clean mystery. I was gifted this from the author.
I liked this book in that the ending did not seem rushed yet was fast paced enough to keep you on the edge of your seat! So much interesting information about Cuba in this book!
Absolutely loved this book. Picturesque description of parts of Cuba, fantastic characters, and the crème the la crème Cayo, the cheeky cat. I love cats and that in itself made the story even more entertaining. Will be reading more of this series.
Book 8 in the Cedar Bay cozy mystery series finds Kelly and smile in Cuba for a fishing adventure. They hadn’t bargained for a murder mystery but when a fellow fisherman is found dead, they both help the local police and eventually find the culprit.
I loved it. Jack and Carola sounds like some pretty good friends to have. Mike and Kelly make a great team. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This Series is a great read, entertaining and it does hold your interest. A little small but still very good. Very easy to read in one sitting. Great reading everyone!
She's done it again. Dianne Harman wrote a book that I read cover to cover and enjoyed every single second of it including those luscious recipes at the end. This time Kelly and her husband accept a trip to go fly fishing in Cuba with their friends who are hoping to get exclusive rights to bringing tourists to the area once the borders to Cuba are once again open to Americans. Of course Kelly's husband, Mike, is all gung ho for the fly fishing!
Then--one of the other contenders to the contract is murdered--but by who? There are quite a few suspects any one of which could be the killer. Mike is asked to help with the investigation---Kelly is not but since her friend's husband is one of the suspects---fingers crossed behind her back--Kelly, Carola and Cayo (the little cat who adopted Kelly for their stay) start investigating on their own.
Just as they figure it out, and with a hurricane about to blow in full speed ahead--nope--I'm not going to spoil this one for you-guess you'll just have to read it to find out!! Murder in Cuba: A Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery
I was nervous starting this book. I had read the whole series "in order" only to discover this after I read book 8. That book had mentioned a Cuban trip but I took it as an aside. I am delighted to say each book is excellent as a stand alone as well as part of the series. There is nothing in the 8th book that would be a spoiler for this one and there was nothing in here that I had to know for the next.
I will continue to read books in a series in order but was delighted to find an author talented enough that even if you didn't know the back story you would still enjoy the book. I've rated the others in this series highly.....Love the included recipients....this one I would give a 5+because of discovering nothing was lost by my mistake.
It was exciting to read a cozy murder mystery set in Cuba by an author who has recently been to Cuba! I loved reading about the scenery and really enjoyed hearing about the old Anerican cars. However, the catch-and-release fly fishing and the descriptions of Cuba and its people are wonderful! I could hear the wind and the rain pounding down during the hurricane. However, Cayo, the resident cat, stole the show! Thanks Dianne Harman for another wonderful book. Here's to hoping there is a stowaway in their baggage!!!
What more can you ask for? Mike and Kelly are off to Cuba for fishing and relaxing blue waters. The food makes you hungry. I so wanted the two and half pound lobster lunch! One of the fishing guides is murdered and Mike is asked to help on the case. Does Kelly sit by and let him solve the murder? Of course not as she needs to help clear the friends name with whom they are cacao with. Keep reading to find out if Kelly and Mike make it out of Cuba alive.
