After three years living as a rich man’s toy, Micah Zaine is on his own again and struggling to salvage both his career and a shattered sense of self-worth. Accepting a position as a substitute kindergarten teacher seems like an excellent start, until he develops a crush on a student’s father.
Two years after the death of his beloved wife, Jacob Lournigran's life revolves around work and raising his young son—a social life is nowhere in the picture. Until his meddling sister extends a holiday dinner invitation to his son's handsome kindergarten teacher.
Spending time with Micah makes Jacob wonder if a friend could be just what he needs to start rebuilding his broken heart. And when financial difficulties and an angry ex put Micah in distress, Jacob has all the makings of a knight in shining armor.
I like writing simple, sweet stories about guys falling in love. Low-angst, low drama, great sex. I hope that my stories serve as a sort of comfort food. I like to think of them as mashed-potatoes for the soul. ☺
Adorable contemporary spanning both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. Some emotional teary moments along with some hot and sexy bits, including a sensual first time m/m experience, and a demisexual character handled well.
I've been thinking of DNFing this most of the day, which is probably a good indicator that I should DNF it. It has all the makings of a book I should like to read, but something about how this is written is preventing me from connecting. I do think there is a tad too much showing. Also, how does Micah's ex know where he lives and works?
This is a slow burn with Micah who is starting over after leaving an affair with a married man and Jacob whose is still grieving for his wife while raising his child.
Jacob is likely demisexual but the novella doesn't talk about it much. This is mainly a book about falling in love, healing, and a bit of fairy tale love makes everything okay.
Sweet story about love and starting over between a teacher who recently got out of an emotionally (and possibly physically) abusive relationship and a demisexual (by his sister's definition) widower.
Not a wow book, but satisfying and a great snapshot of the Thanksgiving/Christmas season.
This was the sweetest love story. It was primarily focused on building a solid foundation of friendship that blossomed into love. Only 2 real steamy scenes, but that's all a good book needs. Curl up by the fireplace with your hot chocolate and enjoy.
This was such a sweet little story, and I loved watching Micah and Jacob find each other and fall in love. They were both so sweet and adorable, and I loved how Micah had a crush on Jacob and thought his sister was his wife, and how she made clear to him that she wasn't. I liked how different Micah and Jacob were, and yet how well they fit together. I died over Micah's ex and how he came after him and how Jacob was there to help him and how he was there for Micah when he needed someone most. I liked how they were both there for each other when Micah was reeling from his abusive ex and Jacob was still grieving his wife. I enjoyed Jacob's demisexual rep, even if he never used the word himself. This was just an awesome little story, and I loved these two and the family they made together <3
Good storyline that kept me interested. The language was a bit too formal and passive, but it was worth pushing through that to get to experience the sweet, emotional story.
