Reading finally Space Battleship Yamato is wonderful. I love Matsumoto's style, I like to be projected in a fictional future and explore the galaxies with his characters, which are definetely standardized in his stories. Still, it is possible to see a originality in each of them.
In this case, probably watching the anime would give a better experience though. The first book follows pretty much the trip to Iscandar, the second and third instead the Comet serie, though the manga is interrupted on the first part and don't tell more about what happened, leaving the reader confused. I was wondering if I had missed to buy some volume, but it seems for some strange reason the ink ended there.. :)
The Iscandar story is beautifully written and full of emotions, although a bit predictable. Interesting the side story at the end of volume three about Jura.
I can easily understand why this has becoming a classical, if one take in consideration especially that it was written in the 80s and that the name "Yamato" has a great impact in the Japanese culture.
Looking forward to read more from Matsumoto-san!

Nel terzo volume continua, con un finale apertissimo, la storia della Yamato. In pratica della saga contro l'impero della cometa non viene detto nulla. Rispetto al secondo volume anche l'atmosfera a cui Matsumoto teneva tanto manca, e la ridondanza è eccessiva. Due stelle giusto perché ci sono affezionato.

Not as good...
...as the anime. Some chapters seen our of place avid the art at times is a bit shoddy. I prefer the animated series and original movies over the manga.
