Deel I:
Niemand anders dan de twaalfjarige jongen Torak kan het Kwaad stoppen, maar hij is gewond en op de vlucht. Hij is een buitenstaander, net als zijn vader, en hij heeft nog nooit andere mensen ontmoet. Nu is zijn vader vermoord door een enorme beer en wordt Torak achtervolgd. Hij moet zien te overleven met als enige bondgenoot een wolfsjong en als enige wapens zijn vaardigheden als jager en verzamelaar.

Deel II:
Torak staat voor een nieuwe uitdaging: een geheimzinnige ziekte bedreigt de Ravenstam en hij is de enige die het zeldzame, magische kruid kan vinden dat de Raven zou kunnen redden. Hij reist af naar de Zeehondenstam en ontmoet er de Magiër Tenris en de stugge Zeehondenjongen Bale. Op zijn tocht ontdekt Torak langzamerhand waarom hij is uitverkoren om de strijd tegen het Kwaad aan te gaan. Ondertussen is het Ravenmeisje Renn naar hem op zoek. En waar is Wolf?

Michelle Paver was born in central Africa, but came to England as a child. After gaining a degree in biochemistry from Oxford University, she became a partner in a city law firm, but eventually gave that up to write full-time.

The hugely successful Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series arose from Michelle's lifelong passion for animals, anthropology and the distant past—as well as an encounter with a large bear in a remote valley in southern California. To research the books, Michelle has traveled to Finland, Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Arctic Canada and the Carpathian Mountains. She has slept on reindeer skins, swum with wild orca (killer whales), and got nose-to-nose with polar bears—and, of course, wolves.

it took me quite some time to finish reading this book. the reason why is because at first i wasn't really into the story i suppose.
I was introduced to this book by one of my old classmates. she told me about the book and what i heard had me craving for more, that's why i purchased the book. i personally think that the beginning of the story was quite dull and i wasn't really sure whether i really liked it or not.
when i first started the book i gave up for ages after the first chapter and never really bothered to pick the book up again. After a while i got into reading books a lot more again and decided to give it another go. at first i wasn't too sure about it since i didn't really know what i was expecting any more, however i continued reading the book because i was intrigued by what it was actually about and i decided that couldn't put the book down unless i actually read the first couple of chapters. once i properly started to read the book i was impressed by the way of storytelling i couldn't put the book down and was reading the book until about 3 AM every night, just because i wanted to know what was going to happen.
This is a good story once you really get into it.

Quite some time passed when I read this, what can I remember?
I remember going through it pretty quick, quite liking it and not having much issues with the story or such. The charakters seemed a bit flat? But for a book that short ok. Yes... not much more to say, I may have cried at the end. But the end was better than I expected it to be.
