This ebook study opens our understanding of the Acts of the Apostles so that “you may know the truth concerning the things of which you have been informed.” Acts is the second volume of the history of Christian origins by Luke, a doctor who wrote “an orderly account” of the life of Christ and the early church. The first volume is Luke’s gospel.
Written as part of Scripture Union’s Bible Study Commentary series, which encourages regular, systematic personal Bible reading, this commentary is also designed as a resource manual for group study. Acts is a pivotal book in the New Testament, says Bruce, “for it provided the sequel to the Gospels and the background to the apostolic letters.” F.F. Bruce’s The Book of Acts, a larger commentary, has been called “one of the best commentaries on this book of Scripture.” F.F. Bruce, known as the “dean of evangelical scholarship,” had a passion for proclaiming the Bible as God’s guide for our lives.
Frederick Fyvie Bruce FBA was a Biblical scholar who supported the historical reliability of the New Testament. His first book, The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable? (1943), was voted by the American evangelical periodical Christianity Today in 2006 as one of the top 50 books "which had shaped evangelicals".
F.F.Bruce has always been one of my favorite biblical scholars. In this book he takes bite size chunks of the book of Acts, adds some background and effective commentary to make it come alive in the reader's mind. I am grateful that this book has become available in ebook format
This was the first commentary I had read on any book of The Bible so I was unsure what to expect. I did really enjoy this book and it gave me an insight into the book of Acts that I had not had before. However, I found parts of it hard to understand so when I next read this book I will read it whilst studying the book of Acts!
I found this little book in my church library. I've long been a fan of F.F. Bruce, ever since I read his Paul: Apostle of the Heart Set Free in seminary. This short Bible study guide to Acts takes that same spirit and puts it into five or six paragraph digestible bites for home Bible study leaders.
This was a handy short commentary to have during a three-week study on Paul and Barnabas' missionary journey.
