Commander Ivy Dalton doesn’t believe in luck or chance. Everything in her life—her career, her ship, the respect of her peers—she’s worked hard to earn. When she and her crew are attacked during an exploration mission, sending her ship crashing onto an unidentified planet, her only concern is finding a way to contact the Alliance. She never expected a single, tiny incident in the infinite reaches of space to challenge all she thought she knew about fate, destiny, and…love.

For thousands of years, King Kai Blackthorn has ruled over the people of his planet with selflessness and compassion, never taking anything for himself. Recently, however, he’s grown weary, malcontent, and the loneliness that has plagued him for centuries has become too pronounced to ignore. Then all that changes with the unexpected arrival of one sassy blonde with luscious curves and a dangerously sharp tongue.

Caught in the midst of intolerance and corruption, two strangers from different worlds struggle to find a way to coexist. Kai can’t abandon his people, and Ivy can’t imagine a life grounded in one place. But fate will not be ignored. Decisions must be made, compromises that will change the course of their lives. For no matter which destination they choose, the journey will leave them forever altered.

Born with a silver tongue and a pen in her hand, Kali spends her days crafting scandalous romances filled with flawed heroes and kick-ass heroines. When she's not writing, she can be found curled up in her favorite chair with a good book and a steamy cup of coffee.

Self-proclaimed introvert and supporter of the selectively social, Kali currently resides in North Texas with her insane family, including two lazy dogs and one tragically misunderstood cat.

Seriously, though, the cat is evil.

3.5 stars.

I enjoyed getting back to the 3013 world and the planet/culture that KA created was interesting. I'm looking forward to reading more set here, though I would have liked more resolution to the suspense plot in this one but I guess that is what the next book is for.

Terrific continuation of the 3013 series. If you enjoy reading futuristic sci-fi romance with a twist of the paranormal then this is the series for you. I can't wait to read the next one.

We met Commander Ivy Dalton briefly when Cami, Tariq and Sion take positions on her exploration vessel. Cami's language skills are a huge asset to this crew, Tariq's engineering skills and Sion for security are perfect additions to crew of the Dreamweaver.

As this book opens, the Dreamweaver is under attack. We listen as Ivy snaps orders to officer Anson Tombs and observe a vessel no larger than a shuttle is attacking them. It has no recognizable markings and the damage to Dreamweaver has evacuations under way. The marking on the vessel a simple circle surrounding a cluster of three dots. They destroy the vessel, but life support is failing, and the Dreamweaver starts to fall. They're in the middle of nowhere, with no visual planet yet they appear to be caught in a gravitational pull. Chief Engineering Officer Tariq Navarra joins them on the deck and orders Tombs to get everyone to the remaining shuttles as he pulls wires as he hopes to save them all. Sion Jabari and Tariq's mate Camille 'Cami' Navarra join him and Ivy instead of leaving in a shuttle.

Vasili Kaireedtheryl 'Kai' Blackthorn is tired in a way he can't describe. For thousands of years his planet, Xenthian, has been hidden under undetectable shields protecting them from the wars of others. The immortal Xenon elders known as the court is unyielding in its decision to keep them hidden. Because of that, no one knows what's out there in the universe in the present time. As he finishes his dinner, he reflects on what he remembers about Earth. The Xenon's were lightyears ahead of any race in technology with the possible exception of the Dragon Warriors. The Elders monitored the outside but shared little with him in spite of him being King. He's interrupted by his Captain of the guard, Tirallarah 'Tira' Meadowlark as she bursts into the room with information of a spacecraft that has landed on their eastern shore with four life forms aboard. Kai has his assistant, Lorcanannian 'Lorcan' Graystone prepare holding rooms for the survivors.

Ivy, Tariq, Sion and Cami find themselves surrounded; thanks to Cami they do get a translation since the language isn't known to their translator implants. They are taken to the Citadel/Palace and put into the holding rooms. Kai arranges for them to have translators for their language but when he goes to see them Tariq was going a bit crazy since he was separated from Cami. Upon Tariq saying they are mates Kai has him taken to her immediately. He then goes to see Ivy who was fighting the men trying to put the translator on her ear. He dismisses the men and calms Ivy and manages to explain what the device is. Once she puts it on, he welcomes her to the high city of Sommervale but is then stricken with pain and dizziness. He quickly leaves her saying he'd see her in the morning.

Well, morning is three days later for Ivy due to the planet's different rotation and Ivy is still unaware that Kai is the King at this point. She's been invited to breakfast and what happens when she arrives in the dining room is quite surprising.

In no way is Ivy prepared to be this King's mate. She does however know how the mate thing works and there really isn't a way out of it. However, she has a life away from this planet and Cami, Tariq and Sion need to leave to continue theirs.

Many interesting things come to light during this book, and one of the biggest is the problem with the Elders Council being in charge above the King. She needs to contact the Alliance and find out the status of her crew and let them know she, Cami, Tariq and Sion are alright but for the moment trapped.

Between being Kai's mate and all that entails to leading these people into the current age outside of their cocoon of a world, this is a most enjoyable and sizzling book.

I can't wait to read more of this series.

Sweet exciting

I really love this series because the women are strong characters and the Men are hot. I really enjoyed this book. It has drama and I liked the way It grew into her own skin. I did feel it has a weak ending without some questions being resolved but I am figuring that it will resolved in a later date if the formula for this series proceeds as in earlier storylines.

Altered by love

Ivy, the Commander of her vessel, is getting her people off of the crippled and abused ship. Her loyal bridge crew are working to try and mitigate the crash that is inevitable. When they survive the sudden stop they make their way off and meet the planet guards. Communication is an issue but through sign language they meet the King. Kai is so smitten he says hi and crawls away to transform.

Did not like the ending

The book left too many things open. Its a nice story but the end left too many sideline stories and no closure to the fact that someone wanted to kill one of the main characters. Maybe the next books will do that.

3013 series keeps getting better and better. Altered is the ninth installment to the multi authored series. Author Kali Argent brings us two incredibly strong characters in this story.
Commander Ivy Dalton she is one kick butt woman. I love a strong heroine. One I can get behind and love, Ivy is that and more. She is the kind of woman you want with you in a fight, and the one you want to be your best friend too. She is sassy, passionate, and strongly independent.
She has worked hard to achieve all she has and she doesn't want to lose it.
King Kai Blackthorn he is what I would consider to be the perfect ruler. Strong, selfless, kind, and compassionate. He has been looking for a strong woman to help him lead, someone to be his equal. Ivy fits the bill if she would only see that herself.
This story has some great action scenes, lots of love and angst to keep me turning the pages. I like that Ivy has to learn that love does not weaken you it only makes you stronger.
This is part of a series and should be read in order just for the general background information. Other wise the story itself is a stand alone. I cannot wait for the next 3013 book. I want to find out who falls in love next and what the future holds for them.

~~ARC gifted by the Author in exchange for an honest review~

I have been following this series from the very first book. Love it and always look forward to the next book. Kali Argent puts her talent up and gives a wonderful story that just adds excitement and fun to the 3013 series.

Crash landed on a world that has been "invisible" for centuries. A world with its own beliefs and way of life. Ivy is about to get a quick lesson in how fate works things its way. Kai has lived in his closed in world for most of his life, the elders long since put a sheild up around the world. The elders afraid of change, but with the landing of the outworlders Kai thinks it just may be time for a change.

Fate will be done, a human female lands on a out of the way planet that no one even knows is there. A King that has only left his world once and doesn't know much that exists outside of his world. When the sparks fly and energy tingles Both will have to change their way of thinking. Fate will not be denied

sexy hot characters, decent length read, easy and fun. Is a stand alone but read the others as well.

recommend and enjoyed.

This book left me hanging and frustrated. I really like this series, so it is disappointing. There were several plot lines left unresolved: 1) Who shot down Ivy's ship and why; 2) Which Xenon was trying to kill Ivy; 3) How the Elders and the Royal Guard were manipulated and by whom; 4) Who killed the Royal Guard after he failed to kill Ivy; 5) Sion seemed to be the mate of one of the Leaders of the Five Isles, but his reaction was never clarified and it was never said what happens to the women when they find their mates. I also was confused by the fact that there's no definitive timeline and why the king and Ivy waited to bond after they accepted that they were mates. Hopefully, the next book will be better.

I just loved the beginning of this. This is book 9 in a series that has quickly become one of a favorites. It is unique in the fact that several different authors write a different book in the series. However, they all fit together very well. I loved the book but the ending just left me with so many questions. We did not learn who was behind everything or how the big summit goes. Too many unknowns for me. I wanted to give this a five but because of the unresolved feeling just going to give it a 3. :-(

I reread this book and I liked it a little bit more the second time through but I still want more answers!!

Least favorite

I have read every book in the series at least 2 to 3 times. This one is my least favorite, because there's no resolution at the end, and it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. I'm somewhat disappointed. But as a loyal reader of the series, I'm hoping it will pick up somewhere else and be finished?

Loved it!

I have to say I've enjoyed the whole 3013 series. Altered is definitely one of my favorites. Pro: I really like a smart, non-whiny, h and the author really delivered! The H isn't just all muscle either! Again, pro. The con for me was, I REALLY wanted to see the elders held accountable. Maybe in book 10? Very good job 's Argent

Excellent series

We have seen elites find their mates in the other books, so it was especially nice to see an "infertile" female make a good place for herself. The planet so isolated from everything will have so many possibilities as the story unfolds of who fired on Ivy's ship and the Elders explain themselves at the summit.

Great book in a wonderful series

This 3013 of 10 books to date is written by three or four different authors, yet is consistent and gives independent stories that interweave well. This book, as well as the others have the action and romance we all love interspersed with aliens from many planets.

I enjoyed Ivy and Kai's story, although a little frustrated from the lack of answers provided in this installment. Obviously, there will be another story with Sion and Rya which will hopefully give more satisfaction in that regard. As always, a very enjoyable romance, and nice to see some old characters back again.
