Essie Stratter lives in the small town of Bison Creek, up in the Rockies. Bison Creek has been chosen for the Sugar Mountain Bake-Off and everyone is excited.
Out for a walk, Essie finds the body of a former client, in the snow and very dead. Asked by the Sheriff to assist in the investigation, Essie finds there are a lot of secrets surrounding this murder victim; secrets that could affect many residents in Bison Creek, if they became public. It isn’t just who killed the victim, but what she knew.
To complicate the investigation, there is a new detective in town who makes investigating difficult and feels a civilian should not be involved. It doesn’t matter that Essie is a home town girl and knows people and how to get information. He feels things should be done ‘by the book,’ but Essie may change his viewpoint.
A cozy, light read with good twists and turns to keep it interesting and fun to read.
This is book #2 in the Bison Creek Mystery series. This is an exciting cozy mystery with a few suspenseful minutes. There is a big baking contest in Bison Creek and everyone wants to win. Essie is Head Trainer at the resort in town and her sister Joy is the Head Event Planner so they are both working at the contest. While walking their dog, Essie finds a murdered lady. No one feels safe and they are worried about the contest being in jeopardy so Essie starts investigating. Her childhood friend, Patrick returns to town part way through the book which adds a little to the story. This series is a little more exciting than your average cozy but still has all the qualities I like in a cozy mystery.
This is book #2 in the Bison Creek Mysteries. It is an exciting cozy mystery! Essie and her sister Joy are working at a big Bake off event for the resort they both work for. The competition is fierce and everyone wants to win. When one of the judges is murdered, Essie needs to figure out if it is because of the event or not to keep the Bakeoff from being cancelled. This is a pretty fast paced mystery.
5 gold stars plus 100 more. This is the second book in the series of A. Gardeners Bison Creek series and just like the first book you can't put it down. I will recommended this to any one who loves Mystery's as I do. I will be getting the third book in the series soon

It will take one gutsy women and the new detective in town to get to the bottom off this mystery while trying to stay alive and trying not to have her heart broke again. The spaniel, Miso finds a dead body frozen next to the lake. The sheriff has had to hire a new man he is the mayor’s relative. Essie is hired as a police consultant to help with the murder. The new detective doesn’t like her.
Essie lives in small town with lots of secrets and the keeper of these secrets is the murdered lady. The ending very nicely sets up the third book in the series. what secret is the sheriff hiding? Is that why the hei\riff asked her to assist in investigations to keep her close?
I was OK with the book and plot until the end. Not to give anything away the author clearly knows nothing about dog shows and competition. Chalk? Really? Everyone chalks dogs. Other than the unrealistic ending a nice easy read.
Joy adopts a dog, who finds a dead body, while Eddie is walking the dog. Then the surprised they find in the dead woman's house. Life in Bison Creek is jumping again and Eddie is right in the middle of it.
Essie is out walking her sister's dog when he gets away and finds a dead body. Essie is now a part time consultant with the sheriff's department and joins with the new detective to help solve the crime.
This mystery kept me guessing until the end and there were many suspects because the person who got murdered had many unknown suspects. I don't want to give anymore information away for people who haven't read this book yet.
I have read and reviewed a couple of the books in A. Gardner’s Poppy Peters Mystery series and was delighted when I saw she had a new series, the Bison Creek Mysteries. I downloaded ICED SPY, the second book in the series and was captivated! I loved this new series with characters that pulled me in! Even though I started with the second book it was easily read as a stand-alone. There is an underlying mystery surrounding Essie, who was adopted as a very young child, that appears to run throughout the series...and it certainly has piqued my curiosity! The murder mystery provided plenty of suspects and red herrings, which kept me guessing until the very end. The premise of "rooming" with her sister and ex-husband lent itself to some humorous, laugh out loud moments while Miso, the adorable Cocker Spaniel puppy, made the story more endearing. The author is setting up some romance for Essie which, in my opinion, will add to the story in future books. Book 3, FROSTED BAIT, is already available on e-book and is on my to read list!
The author always has amazing recipes included with her books and ICED SPY is no exception! I made Anne's Mississippi Mud Bites and they are definitely swoon-worthy!
This is book 2 in the Bison Creek Mysteries series. I found book 1 enjoyable, but I was blown away by book 2! Essie is an usual character. She is smart, capable, but also has a vulnerable side. Her insecurities stem from her weight issues as a teen. She uses self talk to strengthen herself. I like the growth she & Patrick are making in their relationship. The addition of little Miso was wonderful. He definitely is a lifesaver in many ways. This was a wonderful light cozy that delights at every turn. However, the ending is quite mysterious & sinister, causing my mind to go in numerous directions. Now I am anxiously awaiting book 3 which hopefully will be out soon.
"Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion, and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.”
Oh my gosh I just could out this book down once I started it. I love the characters and I was totally surprised by who the killer turned out to be. The ending was quite the shocker. I hope Bill 3 comes out soon. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Essie.
I loved this book even more than the first one in the series. All of the characters are becoming more interesting and I can't wait to read more about them. I love Essie and her sister, Joy. Even obnoxious Wade is growing on me. But with the new mystery coming to light, some of the other townsfolk may prove to be even more intriguing. I'm very anxious for the next book from A. Gardner to be released.
An enjoyable follow up to book 1! I was glad that we got to learn a little bit about how Essie got into her sleuthing. The characters were great (the new police detective and Taryn should be interesting to watch!) but I was disappointed that there wasn't too much Patrick. And that epilogue! I am definitely gripped and can't wait to learn what that is all about!
Even better than the first. The ending is a cliffhanger. Intriguing and shocking that there is more to the story and Essie. If you haven't read the first in this series, get it now. Absorb it, and then read this one ASAP.
A very engaging series! Even though I didn't read them in order, I thoroughly enjoyed them all and hope there will be soon!! Well written and filled with plenty of twists to you guessing whodunit!!
I love this second book of the bison creek series. I am intrigued by the epilogue and anticipate the next book. I enjoyed the new characters and the mystery was great.
