Winifred Papadopoulos, Freddie to her few friends, has a reputation in Snowberry, Minnesota. Behind her back, and occasionally to her face, she’s known as Wicked Winifred. Freddie uses her sharp tongue as a defense mechanism to keep people at bay. The truth is, her heart was broken beyond repair at sixteen, and she doesn’t intend to get close to anyone ever again. She didn’t foresee a two-minute conversation at speed dating as the catalyst to turn her life upside down.

Flynn Steele didn’t like dating. He liked speed dating even less. When his business partner insisted, he reluctantly agreed, sure it would be a waste of time, until he met the Wicked Witch of the West. He might not like dating, but the woman behind the green makeup intrigued him.

A downed power pole sets off a series of events neither Flynn nor Winifred saw coming. Their masks off, and their hearts open, they have until Halloween to decide if the scars of the past will bring them together or tear them apart. Grab your broomstick and hang on tight. This is going to be a bumpy ride...

I love Katie's books and this is no exception. I read this book because I wanted to find something for Halloween and this sweet romance didn't disappoint. I love the small town feel of the book and the lovable, easy to relate to characters. Winifred has a bad reputation of being mean and cold to everyone but that's not really who she is. She is heartbroken over the loss of her parents and never got over it. She is so afraid of getting close to anyone again that she keeps everyone at a distance. That is until she meets a mysterious person at a speed dating event her friend talks her into going to. Will she be able to open her heart again and find happiness or will she continue to be the town recluse?

The title and cover art for this book are excellent. The story itself? Amazing. The author drew me in with a lighthearted beginning with her characters being coerced in taking part in a night of speed dating while dressed in costume. While that was a fun start to the story the plot thickened considerably. Winifred (aka Winnie aka Freddie) and Flynn, were two flawed characters who had quite a bit of healing to do due to battling emotional blows at an early age. Winifred's emotional trauma came from having lost her parents at sixteen, Flynn's were the result of physical abuse by his mother when he was a baby. This is a work of fiction, but those situations are all too real. They gave this story phenomenal depth. Initially I wasn't sure I would like Winifred because she had such an attitude about life and people but little by little I discovered a person worth caring about. Flynn was easy to love from the get-go. Winifred and Flynn falling for each other seemed unlikely, yet it happened. The attraction between them was powerful but so was the emotional baggage. Ms. Mettner made Winifred work to be a better person. She also made Winifred and Flynn work hard to get their happily-ever-after. The secondary characters in this story were awesome too!

I wasn't sure about this one because we met Winifred in a previous story and the way she treated Adam, oh boy, she was not nice. But it got me to thinking how much we want our heroines in love stories to be nice or sweet or endearingly cute. Something. Winifred and her tall stature and sour demeanor was no standard heroine. Who would want to save her first off, and would we care? Well, yeah, because she made me laugh, she was real with her grumpiness and real is better than sugary sweet fake. Her counterpoint was a mystery and the start of the story was perfect. They were both works in progress, both needing to believe in another person. I'm not sure who had farther to travel to find the person they each wanted to be, but the trip was worth it.

This book was so good that I finished it in two days! Now I need to go read the others as yes they were mentioned and now I am curious about the other stories. That means Katie did an awesome job with the Misunderstood Wicked Winifred. You have to give her a chance and I promise you won't be disappointed!

Wicked Winifred: A Snowberry Halloween by Katie Mettner

Winifred is encouraged to go to a speed dating event by her friend Kate. She dressed up as a Wicked Witch and meets "The Phantom of the Opera". After the event she finds out that the Phantom is Flynn Steele. Winifred has emotional scars due to the death of her parents when she was a teen.

Flynn is scarred as well, due to family abuse. As time goes by they both have to face their inner demons. Winifred strives to be a better person, with the help of Flynn, faith, friendship and love she can experience true happiness.

A heart warming story with well developed characters. Winifred is called "Wicked" behind her back, yet I found her likable. I could feel her emotions and empathize with her. Flynn is not perfect either, he too is very likable. I was caught up in their world where, love, friendship and faith heals all (emotional) wounds. I highly recommend Wicked Winifred: A Snowberry Halloweento those who love a sweet romance.

Three and a half stars.

You know how you feel when you read or watch A Christmas Carol? This book feels a bit like that. In a way, I kind of felt it was a bit heavy on the morals (yes, more than one) of the story, which most romance novels don't have, but I still liked it. Now though, I feel like I need my next read to be pure x-rated trash to make up for the lessons I (supposedly) learned in this one.

Wicked Winifred is the perfect Halloween sweet romance read that you do not want to miss. This book takes place in a small town with lovable, amazing characters. It follows Winifred and how she as always been mean to people after her parents death until she goes on a speed dating event and meets a mysterious person. Will she open her heart up and find happiness again? The author wrote this so well and this book will have you turning pages until the very end. I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend this one to any readers who love romance. Thank you to the author for this read in exchange of my honest review of Wicked Winifred.

Winifred “Freddie” is a lost soul who has shut herself off from relationships and true friendships. To most people, she’s not a very nice person. She hides what’s really underneath all her rude, obnoxious, mean behavior because of a lack of self-worth. At a rare-for-her (as in NEVER) speed dating event, she meets The Phantom, briefly, and finds herself intrigued by and unable to stop thinking about him. The Phantom feels the same way about her, but he has some secrets, too. Can he break through the walls she’s built and open her eyes to who she really is and can she do the same for him. A delightful story!

Katie Mettner is one of the best authors out there. Just read Wicked Winifred, and although it's book 6 of the Snowberry series, it's the first one in that series I have read. Very well written, complex and real characters, and stories that will grab you and keep you from start to finish. Now, I am off to start at the beginning of the series.

Another delightful book by author Katie Mettner. Winifred is a small town librarian and very wealthy. Why is she working? The answer lies in the provisions of her deceased parent's will. Because of their death, Winifred has turned into a sarcastic and downright nasty person. A chance meeting with a mysterious man brings about changes no one expected. I love the small town setting, the delicate handling of the characters with disabilities and the storyline. A well-written book by the author.

This book was amazing. It has a lot of humor. I laughed so hard at some of the things Winifred said. This book has a lot of heart. I loved all the characters. Winnie’s transformation was a wonderful thing. This story is full of love and shows how we can change with love in our life and hearts.
