Mary Pope Osborne is an American author of children's books and audiobook narrator. She is best known as the author of the Magic Tree House series, which as of 2017 sold more than 134 million copies worldwide. Both the series and Osborne have won awards, including for Osborne's charitable efforts at promoting children's literacy. One of four children, Osborne moved around in her childhood before attending the University of North Carolina. Following college, Osborne traveled before moving to New York City. She somewhat spontaneously began to write, and her first book was published in 1982. She went on to write a variety of other children's and young adult books before starting the Magic Tree House series in 1992. Osborne's sister Natalie Pope Boyce has written several compendium books to the Magic Tree House series, sometimes with Osborne's husband Will Osborne.

The book is organized loosely by subjects and includes facts about animals, the human body, outer space, science/nature, sports and famous landmarks. The format is snappy. Each spread is packed with photographs, fact boxes, and informative text in varied fonts and vibrant colors. The facts are interesting and varied, and the last section presents random facts that do not fit in with the other chapters. Back matter includes an index. This is a great title for browsing and is suited to those readers that enjoy information and trivia.

Jack and Annie take the reader through some of their favorite facts. Some of the subjects include animals, the human body, space, landmarks and places. This book is basically a large fact book similar to National Geographic’s Weird but True Fact Books. The illustrations throughout are bright and attractive and the facts are interesting 3-5 sentence long explanations. There are up to 2-3 facts per page. This is a fun book for your nonfiction readers.
