The blurb sounded good with this book but in saying that I found the execution of the book difficult.

Rena was kidnapped at the age of seventeen and sold as a sex slave. Her captivity lasted two years in the last three weeks of her captivity she met her saving grace, her prince.

This is more about the aftermath of trying to rebuild a life after such a horrific event has happened. I have a lot of empathy for heroine of the story and the obstacles that she had to overcome. She receives a new identity to start afresh.

The Hero Brendan Grayson, a senator’s son was kidnapped and abused for three weeks until he was rescued. Both Brendan and Kira have a connection and there are ties that bind them together.

Clever Ms. Med in figuring out how they met up again. But after that there were just things that bothered me. She goes and travels with Brandan to his parents and oh, his father is one of the people that used her as a sex slave. Didn’t like that combination at all.

I felt that the writing was choppy which made it hard to hard to concentrate. With the use of an editor and beta readers so that it is tidied up then this would be a winner.

ARC from Netgalley

The writing style with the constant short sentences does not help the story flow. I'm not sure why the author chose to write in this way but I advise that she think about changing it in future books.

The story had potential but the characters of Kira and Brendan are one dimensional. I didn't connect with them and as the story progressed, I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the things that happened, I was also irritated by Brendan constantly calling Kira 'baby'.

No. The cover and description was intriguing.

Capture

I really didn't like the characters at all. Kira was very annoying, and dumb. I hate Brendan's weird habit of calling Kira baby. I felt like everything was so one-sided.

Capture

I hate this book. I'm sorry, but I do. The plot is just so unrealistic, the passion is so boring, and the characters are so one-dimensional. I couldn't connect with them at all.

This is basically about a girl who was kidnapped, and sold into slavery. The girl's name is Rena. One day, a man is brought into the house where Rena is hold hostage in, and is forced by Rena's Master to engage in intercourse. This is the first time Rena feels good about it. Then they fall in love.

Somehow,  Rena turns into Kira (trying to keep it spoiler free). And Brendan and Kira are in a big adventure.

This book moved very fast. I felt like instead of jumping, ahead to 2 years it could've just described her first few nights as a slave.

The kidnapping scene was also very fast. She get's kidnapped in the first few pages. The rest, is very, very boring.

The moments of passion, were... really... bad. It makes you think that, Kira is desperate for it. And is very annoying.

Capture

There were a lot of rough patches, in the story. Now what does that mean? Well, most of the story was very rocky, and not smooth. There wasn't a flow to it. The short sentences made it even worse. It's kind of like this.

Five days later, I found my self in a car... Alyssa looked at her dad. His eyes seemed like a gray color. Alyssa never knew that.

Can you feel the flow? No because there isn't one! Same thing happened in Radiance.  Very rocky sentences.

I can’t seem to be able to decide how many stars I want/have to give this book. It has me so confused and so twisted up in knots. It’s like I’m on a teeter and I can’t decide which way to go……

The first thing that caught my eye about this book was the AWESOME cover. And I mean REALLY AWESOME!!! The incredible harmony of the colors along with the title and the girl makes this cover simply WOW!!! I will never get tired of staring at it!

When I got to read the blurb, – after I got myself in control and dragged my eyes off the cover – I was instantly intrigued. You see, the dark romance is kind of my thing and my soft spot. Every time I see an interesting and oh-hell-yeah romance from the dark side, I can hardly walk away from it. And Radiant fall in that category after I read what it’s about.

Although, when I started it, I was kind of: Uh-oh. This started kind of disappointing. For almost the half book, I wasn’t that drawn to the story and so emotionally attached like in others. It had a pace, though its own and maybe the right one, that made me swing between different moods while I was getting deeper into it. My mind and heart was, each one, in an inner battle trying to decide what my impression and feelings for it are. And as you can see from my words, neither has come to a conclusion yet. Radiant is definitely a book-hangover book whose hangover is caused from the beautifully emotional knots it pushes you in.

Time drifted away as she melted into her Prince.

Both Brendan and Kira are two very powerful, emotional and complex characters. The unfortunate situations they are thrown into just multiply these characteristics of them. What is extremely captivating is how much power hold over each other. Almost from the beginning of the book, where they meet under some very horrible circumstances, the pull between them is plainly insane. Personally, I have a hard time remembering if I have encountered that much of insanity between lovers in any other book I have read. But, as unique as it was, sometimes it bothered me because it didn’t seem that mush down to earth. It was literally came out from a book.

I don’t really know how to describe M. L. Med’s writing. It was changing a bit from one chapter to another. Maybe the word that can describe it correctly is Unpredictable. And, so, the story was too. It was going up and down, right and left in no time, leaving me confused about my feelings and my thoughts. I loved it but I still can’t say how much. This is a real first for me. I have never found myself in a position where I can’t say with certainty what I feel. Well, I will undoubtedly not be able to forget that book as long as I live. :p

This is a tough book to define.

It deals with kidnapping and sexual slavery. Very serious topics. And while it doesn't make light of these things, the story takes a fanciful turn with the underlying plot and the set up of the "romance".

What makes this book stand out among other stories of this type is the inclusion of a kidnapped male turned sex slave.

Rena meets him through a graphically depicted scene where he is brought in to perform sexual acts with her which creates the odd situation where both of them are raped as neither are voluntarily participating in it.

Fast forward to life after being rescued. Rena struggles to cope with what happened to her and is also haunted by the memories of the young man from that one day. She calls him her prince because he surreptitiously contrived to ease the pain that was supposed to be inflicted on her.

Then they meet. Their shared experience created an instant bond and they fall into a relationship... but how can such a relationship succeed given the individual damage to their psyche. They aren't who they were before but as they find who they are now, it doesn't necessarily mean their relationship will survive or even be healthy for each other.

Going back to my opening statement, it's hard to define this book because the circumstances to bring about this connection between them are a literary license by the author in order to be able to explore the deeper themes. Generally I find that this kind of license is often what separates the YA from YA with strong adult appeal.

Recommended if the summary above intrigued you .

This book's synopsis seemed interesting like this story was going to cling me to the book. I started reading it and when I realized where it was going I just couldn't keep reading. It was too much to me when the author wrote those sexual scenes. I just couldn't handle the fact that a child was suffering and being abused. I didn't read many chapters but it was enough for me.

A decent story surrounding a very difficult topic. I enjoyed it, and I loved the dynamic between the two main characters, but parts of the story were clumsy, and the resolution in the end, while satisfying, left far too many questions unanswered about the characters lives going forward.
