Rory Joyce is about to climb into the driver’s seat of life. She’s ready to take the wheel.

She’d better not look in the rearview mirror.

By now, Rory has a few years under her Christian belt. It’s fine if her white stone friends are busy with their love lives (Shayne) or their academic endeavors (Allie) or just behaving weirdly in general (Jake). No problem that her best friend has put six thousand miles and a deafening silence between them (Sam). No big deal that her mom doesn’t bring her to church much anymore or that her Bible time consists mostly of finding “gotcha” verses to zing her obnostic lunch companion (Jasmine) or that her prayers are flabby and offered up out of habit or obligation.
It’s probably time to tighten her seatbelt—and her spiritual Belt.

Because there’s more waiting for her at the Department of Motor Vehicles than a driver’s license. Two unexpected passengers show up in the back seat of her car—both of them hated, only one of them human—and every road wants to lead her back to the quarry and its cold, black depths. It’s the perfect time to call for backup, but even Cornerstone isn’t the same anymore. Rory wanders a spiritual wilderness until a life-and-death decision causes her inevitable crash and burn. But something emerges from the fire.

When the lines of communication with Sam re-open, they weave themselves straight into her heart. Rory knows she has uncovered something precious, but she doesn’t know if it is a treasure God intends for her. Is she willing to give up everything to follow Jesus?

Oh my gosh I was up till 7 in the morning reading this book! I can’t express how much of a joy it was for me to read this. While reading this book I learned a few new things about scripture, was constantly reminded of the spiritual battle raging around us and not to forget to keep my armor on, all while being delightfully entertained by (while stressful waiting for them to come together) a ABSOLUTELY SWOON WORTHY relationship between Sam and Rory. I loved finally finding a book with a relationship that has Christ as it’s center and doing things his way.
Sam and Rory were incredible and their type of relationship is exactly what I’m praying for.
