Author and photographer Raymond Bial (1948-2021) has been creating acclaimed books for children and adults for more than thirty years. My mom grew up in western North Carolina and we visited yearly, so I have strong ties to the area. This book is simple yet thorough, addressing various areas of mountain life. It brought back a flood of memories. My favorite old saying from the book: "when an old person dies, a library burns."
