HOLY FANTASTICAL TOP 5 BOOK OF 2016!!!!!! Yes, I said it, this is definitely in my Top 5 of 2016 and hopefully will be in yours too! I wasn’t going to request anything else from NetGalley until I got through some of my current stack (who am I kidding???) but after my sister in law read this one I had to go ahead and request it so that we could discuss. :) I didn’t know much about this book going into it, just that it involved a religious sect that resembled a cult and a journalist digging around where she shouldn’t to find her missing best friend.

So this is one of those stories where all my guesses were on point with how the story would go, but it was totally ok, because it was THAT GOOD. This story didn’t need to hedge its bets on its multiple twists because the writing was spectacular. (BTW- the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger due to book #2 coming in October but it ended EXACTLY as I was hoping it would) The characters were strong, developed, and relatable. I usually run as far from romance as I can, but this wasn’t cheesy in the least. The relationships, especially that between Sara and Jacob was tasteful and classy, while straddling the line of abusive (I understand how insane that sounds). No, this is nothing like Fifty Shades of Grey, so don’t get your panties in a wad. The storyline was perfect; it balanced a healthy amount of suspense among 3+ POVs all while managing to be easy to follow and not making me want to vomit from the lovey dovey scenes.

One of the best aspects of this book is how well done the research was on cults and how realistic this story was. This is the second book in a week that I’ve read on this topic, and while The Girls was more historical fiction and focused on themes of coming of age and freedom of sexuality, this one was the complete opposite. The characters in this book were portrayed with a focus on the control and brainwashing elements, which added more of the suspense element for me. There is also a whole separate layer to this story once you get going, but I can’t go into it here because spoilers. I don’t want to give away too much, but I also just want to keep saying how much I loved this book and how badly I want to get my hands on Book #2 Away from the Dark RIGHT NOW!!!!! This is one of those books you want to pick up when you’re not super busy since you won’t want to put it down. Recommended to everyone! Go buy it! NOW! Then read it immediately and join the remaining ranks of us chomping at the bits for book 2.

As always, Ms. Romig has weaved an intricate web of deception that has completely captivated me. Nobody writes an antihero better than she does. Each of her books leaves me a twisted up, confounded and conflicted mess...and I love it!

This book tells the story of Stella and Sara, two seemingly different women with vastly different lives. One woman is fiercely independent and focused on her career. The other lives a life of submission, with virtually no control over her own life.

Stella is an investigative reporter looking for clues to her best friend's disappearance. When she begins to dig deeper, she begins to unearth some disturbing facts about the number of females that have disappeared, or been murdered, in the area. She places herself in dangerous situations, causing her detective boyfriend to grow increasingly concerned.

Sara wakes up in a hospital following a bad car accident. She has no recollection of her life or any of the events preceding the accident. By her side from the time she awakens is a man she doesn't remember, but who claims to be her husband, Jacob. She struggles to re-learn the ways of her life and the religious teachings of their community leader, Father Gabriel.

From beginning to end, I was completely absorbed in this story. I couldn't read it fast enough, only to curse myself once it was over. This book blew my mind!

I thought I knew exactly what was going on pretty early on, but I was wrong. By about halfway I had figured part of the plot twist out, but had to await confirmation. However, I never figured it all out. This book surprised me around every corner.

I won't say much more because I don't want to give anything away. This is a book that needs to be experienced firsthand. It is hands-down, one of my favorite books of the year! I highly recommend this book. It is phenomenal!

I am officially mind-blown.

Dear sweet lawd, this was a tour de force. Ms. Romig killed this story. Killed it. Dead. It's unusual that an author manages to confound me but hand on heart, I did not clue in the story was running flashback and present day concurrently, that is, until the very last page!!!

Excuse my English - but, out-freakin'-standing!  Absolutely brilliant!

" I said no talking, don't make me repeat myself....obeying isn't optional"  And with that I was hooked.

This book involves cults and the disturbing powers they wield over their followers. A society within a society. 
When I was in my freshman year of college we had a deprogrammer come to our dorm to warn us of the danger of cults and how to spot if one approaches you. Within a month I was approached by 2 members who used the exact lines on me that we were told to expect! I turned tail and ran. This hit way too close to home.Frightening!

Told from several points of view......

Sara who wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened and how she got there, but even more disturbing, no memory of who she is.

The husband Jacob. Is he truly a follower? Or is there more to why he is a member of this group?

Stella is an investigative journalist in Detroit who is in search of her missing friend. She comes across a possible story regarding unidentified bodies being found in abandoned buildings. Is it conceivable this ties into her missing friend?

I couldn't and wouldn't put it down!
This book absolutely lulls you in with a vise-like grip.

Chugging along...turning pages. Captivating, disturbing, a little strange, even borderline bizarre.

This is perhaps Aleatha Romig’s best work to date! Her writing and storytelling is superb and will have readers on the edge of their seats with this intelligently woven thrill ride. This is book one of a two book series that is so captivating it’s impossible to put down.



The author eases between povs and has you totally relating to our heroine, Sara Adams. Sara has just woken up in a clinic with extensive injuries from an accident she doesn’t recall and a life in a cult like community she doesn’t remember. Top that off with a husband named Jacob and oh yeah did I mention that her eyes are bandaged up to boot? You can’t help be right with Sara and her feelings of fear and confusion.

The story is so rich in layers and possible scenarios. We are gifted with Stella Montgomery’s pov who is frantically searching for her missing friend Mindy. Stella utilizes all her sources and comes across some very suspect information that may all tie together. While Sara Adams is learning the ways of her community and religion, she is trying hard to please her husband and avoid those corrections by him and the organization. Will Sara’s memories of her life in the dark return? Is it possible that she has actually fallen in love with her husband and him with her?

The last but not least important question of all is who can a reader and Sara trust? Overall, this story had it all for me and I recommend it to fans of suspense and mystery reads. The story does end with a terrific cliffhanger that was well placed and threw two twists that I personally never saw coming. I’m looking forward to the conclusion of this story and hope readers will check this out on release day which is June 14th and the conclusion set to release on October 18th well done Ms. Romig!!

Mrs. Romig simply blew me away with this first installment in her newest series entitled ‘The Light’. I have to admit I rarely read mystery/thrillers, but dayum, I have to say I really enjoyed this one. To be honest I was at the edge of my seat from the very beginning until the end and yeah, I enjoyed every minute of this suspenseful romantic thriller. I’ve read several books by this author, so I can totally say she’s an amazing storyteller and I love reading her twisted stories, so trust me when I say ‘Into the Light’ is her best work to date. Well, at least in my humble opinion.

'Into the Light' tells the story of Stella Montgomery, an investigate reporter who’s determined to find out what happened with her best friend who disappeared several weeks ago. She fallows a twisted trail that leads her through the city’s most dangerous and forsaken precincts. There she finds out about ‘The Light’, a strange organization led by Father Gabriel.

“I was captive in a life I detested from the depths of my soul. I completely understood why I didn’t remember: I didn’t want to.”

Sara Adams wakes up in a hospital with amnesia, eye damage and without properly using her voice. She finds out she is married with Jacob Adams, both being part of a religious cult named ‘The Light’, but the strange thing is that Sara doesn’t remember Jocob or any other women or men from the cult, not even the enigmatic Father Gabriel, their leader. In order to survive, Sara will have to learn the ways of her (new) life and all the religious teachings.



What a ride this first installment turned out to be! Seriously, Mrs. Romig delivered such a gripping, intriguing read. ‘Into the Light’ will make you question everything, will held your attention from start to finish and will make you appreciate this author and her writing more, because let me tell you, her writing was flawless and her storytelling was as fantastic as always. The plot is layered and thickens with every chapter as the story unfolds which I really loved. I have to admit I figured out some things pretty early, but there were many others that really shocked me and made me question everything. I’m sure the multitude of twists and revelations will blow your mind.

I loved the fact the story was told from multiple POV. In my opinion a multiple POV was the right choice for a story as complex as this one. All three POVs were interesting, well written and I really enjoyed all of them. Both main and side characters were fantastically portrayed, fascinating and I can’t wait to read more about them.

Keep in mind that this first installment ends with a huge cliffhanger that left me with my mouth hanging open, so if you can’t handle these kind of endings, my advice is to wait for the second book. The mystery, the suspense and also the romantic aspect made this story a total winner for me, so if you want to be blow away, I highly recommend this one. Needless to say I’m dying to read the second and final installment!

I have to admit..when I first saw this book up for request on Netgalley I thought it was a sexy times book.


It's more of a thriller and it's freaking good! 4.5 stars from bitchy me good.

Sara wakes up in a hospital and realizes she can't see and has no memories of her life at all. She is told by the staff and a guy who says he is her husband that she had an accident and is recovering. But husband boy? Jacob..he tells her to not embarrass him...then he proceeds to lie when questioned by the 'sister' and 'brothers' that come to see Sarah.
Sara may just need to go back to sleep.


Sara is told that Jacob and herself are part of what is called "The Light"..led by Father Gabriel.


The Light is a cult refuge in which women are taken care of by their husbands. Umm that means the fuckers tell them when to even take a pee.
The husbands and Sara finds this out the hard way, may have to 'correct' their wives for either questioning or embarrassing them in anyway.
But of course..they love them. *gag*


Sara is pretty beat up and it's believable to see where she doesn't know her past, so she ends up going back to the compound with Jacob. She learns that she is supposed to greet him at the door when he returns home everyday.


Jacob does have two sides though and Sara starts to have some smexy time feelings for him. (Lay off the girl-she honestly believes she belongs here)..plus the compound is in the far north Alaska and they make sure she knows about polar bears.

There is another storyline going at the same time as Sara's story is unfolding. Stella is an investigative reporter who's best friend Mindy has gone missing. Once she starts looking into the disappearance she realizes that everything ties back to "The Light"...
Think you have it figured out? YOU ARE SO WRONG!! This book totally messes with your head.

Now I need the second book. I hate frigging cliffhanger serial books and here I am begging for the next one. I need to get ahold of myself.

4.5 stars!



OMG I don’t even know what to say about this book. Once again, Aleatha Romig has totally mind fucked me. I am not always a fan of thrillers, mysteries or suspense, but I love this author and wanted to give this one a go. My god this one got me from the start. I couldn’t put it down and I was questioning everything- I thought I had a lot figured out then that 99% mark hit and I was wrong. WRONG. I still can’t get over how wrong I was and how shocked I am by that ending! This one has really threw me for a loop! I feel traumatized by this new knowledge I have and I’m not sure how I’m going to wait four more months to get closure!

The Light is a story that primarily follows three pov’s. Stella’s, Sara’s, and Jacob’s. Stella is a reporter who is breaking ground on a story about a cult like church called ‘The Light’. She is also trying to find leads on her missing best friend and fellow reporter, Molly. Sara is a girl who lost her memory and woke up from a terrible accident not knowing who she was or where she was. Jacob is Sara’s husband and they are followers of The Light. Yep. That’s all you’re getting from me about this story. Do yourself a favor and read it without any spoilers or too in-depth reviews, because you really want to get the full impact at the end!

When I read the last chapter of this book, I got the tingles going down my spine and my stomach plummeted. I actually paused the book and messaged a friend who had already read because I couldn’t believe it. I just finished the book and I think I’m still in shock. This book surprised me in the best way. It made me question everything and crave more.

Aleatha Romig has an incredible imagination and a way with words. Her stories are always so complex and wonderfully written. It’s been a while since a book has truly made my heart race and had me this on edge. This story is full of mystery, suspense, secrets and is a book that will make you think and keep your mind racing. If you love a good mystery/thriller pick this one up- if you’re like me and it’s not your genre of choice, I still recommend you give it a go. It was a fantastic read and one I know I’ll be thinking about for a long while!

Holy Frak, what a ride!

I am so excited and anxious to share my thoughts but damn at the same time I want to be reading book two in this series , so excuse me if I am brief.

Sara Adams wakes up blind, in pain and unable to remember anything of her past.  At her bedside is a man called Jacob who says he is her husband.  It soon becomes clear to Sara that she is totally dependant on Jacob.  I mean totally.  He decides when she can drink, eat,  use the washroom,  or even speak for that matter and who she is allowed to speak to.  Gradually she comes to understand that she is in a small community where everyone, Jacob included, takes direction from  Father Gabriel who is the leader of their religious organization called The Light.  

Stella Montgomery is an investigative reporter for WCJB TV in Detroit.   Her best friend Mindy also used to work there but Mindy has disappeared under mysterious circumstances, so when Stella gets a call from the morgue she is understandably nervous.  They would only have called her if there was a possibility that it was Mindy that had been found.  Her boyfriend Dylan Richards, a homicide detective meets her at the morgue  to provide moral support.

The story that Stella has been working on involves drug trafficking but it soon becomes clear to her that an ever increasing number of women are turning up dead under unusual circumstances and while on the surface there does not seem to be a connection between these women Stella soon learns that there just may be.   Her investigation into the drug story takes Stella to Highland Heights, the same area where Mindly supposedly disappeared and where Dylan Richards adamantly does not want Stella to go.  

I really do not want to say much more and risk potential spoilers so I will just say this.  If you are looking to scare the bejesus out of me, just bring in the religious fanatics.  I remember when my girls were younger, cult activity had been reported in close proximity to the area where we lived.  I was so concerned for their safety that  I am sure they got tired of me lecturing them on all the do’s and don’ts of speaking to strangers or straying off the beaten path and absolute adherence to the established buddy system on their way to and from school or to visit a friend.

Told from the differing perspectives of Sara, Jacob and Stella, this story got my attention from the get go.  I could not put it down.  Every time I thought I had things figured out in my head the story would take another turn and BAM, I was left scurrying to find my balance once again, holding my kindle in a death grip,  tapping the pages furiously and gulping down the words.

And that ending …….. the mother of all cliff-hangers!.  Biff, boom, bang just like that I made a few taps and now please folks, excuse me, I really must go and read Away from the Dark

I went into this book blindly. I did not read any of the reviews but saw all the shiny 4 and 5 star ratings and had to read it. At first I thought it was very at strange. I never read anything like this before and I didn't know what the heck was going on. Then when I thought I knew what was going on I couldn't put the book down. It was amazing. I loved the twists at the end and darn it I don't like cliffhangers but this one sure got my attention. Unfortunately I have to wait to read book 2 because I have a couple of buddy reads going on. At first I didn't think that I was going to like it. I even checked the genre to see if this was a romance novel and no its a mystery and thriller my favorite genre. I am so happy I finished it.

Sarah wakes up in a hospital with no memory of who she is and her sight is temporarily gone. She is scared.

Stella Montgomery, an investigative reporter is trying to discover what happened to her friend's disappearance and also the mystery of the bodies, dead woman that are showing up. As Stella continues to investigate and Sara begins to remember the two worlds collide as lies, secrets and deceit are brought Into the Light.

I just loved this book and the ending just blew me away. My jaw literally dropped. This was absolutely perfect. I cannot stress enough how awesome this book was and can't wait to read book two, Away From the Dark.

After a terrible traffic accident Sara wakes up in a clinic - bruised, battered, eyes covered with bandages....with no memories.



Her husband, Jacob Adams - whom she doesn't recall - seems to be very solicitous but Sara is bewildered by things he says and does.



Before long Sara learns that she and Jacob live in a religious community called The Light.....



.....run by Father Gabriel, who has rigid rules and regulations for his followers.



Moreover, Jacob is is an Assemblyman in the organization, a high official with important responsibilities. As an Assemblyman's wife, Sara must also set an example for members of The Light.



Turns out The Light is a fundamentalist cult where men rule. Wives have to kowtow to their husbands and get their permission for EVERYTHING including speaking, asking a question, seeing a friend, styling their hair...whatever. Worse yet, wifely infractions are 'corrected' physically, with slaps and beatings.



Sara remembers nothing at all from before her accident and finds it hard to 'readjust' to life in The Light, but - with Jacob's encouragement - 'relearns' Father Gabriel's teachings and strives to become an upstanding member of the community.



Meanwhile, in the real world, investigative journalist Stella Montgomery - who works for WCJB in Detroit - is looking into drug-running activity between the U.S. and Canada. Stella is also looking into the recent disappearance of her best friend Mindy, a fellow employee at WCJB.



Stella's various investigations take her into dangerous parts of Detroit where, it turns out, women have been vanishing and dead bodies have been turning up.

Stella's cop boyfriend, Dylan Richards, insists Stella stay out of rough areas but she pays no attention.



Before long Stella's inquiries lead her to investigate some buildings and activities connected to an organization called The Light. So the story lines start to converge.

The story is told from the rotating points of view of Sara, Jacob, and Stella.

Sara is confused about her situation; meets fellow members of The Light - some kind, some cruel; and comes to rely on and care for Jacob despite his physical abuse.



From my point of view the story verges on sadomasochism and erotica as Sara and Jacob's (renewed) relationship develops. I wasn't nuts about these parts.

Jacob is anxious to be a successful and respected Assemblyman; thinks some members of The Light resent him and want him to fail; is concerned about Sara; and worries they'll both be 'banished' if his wife doesn't adjust properly.



Stella is desperate to find out what happened to her friend Mindy and wants to do a good job for her boss Bernard, which means finding out about those drug movements. Thus, she pays too little attention to dangerous situations.

As the story unfolds we learn that The Light has more going on than religious works and making jelly, which they sell to support themselves.



I won't say more except that the book's climax has a twist and a cliffhanger that leads to book two in the series. I had an idea about certain aspects of the book's end and I was correct.

I'm in the minority of readers/reviewers because I didn't love this book. First, I found it hard to buy a basic premise of the book but won't say more because of spoilers. Moreover, the cult of male dominance is offensive to me; I was annoyed with the women's subservience and some of Sara's behavior - especially the way she 'bit her lip' about a thousand times, fearing Jacob's reaction to something or other. In fact, I'd rather be eaten by a polar bear (a supposed danger in this story) than live in The Light.

I might read the second book in the series to see what happens but it's not a sure thing.

5 took me by surprise stars



They say The Light was a beacon against darkness and a home of healing for the lost. But what if your not lost, or at least don't remember being lost and just want to be found....

Sara Adams wakes up blind; she tries to come to terms with the loss of her past and present. Her inner self battles with the truth she feels inside to the truth she is told to believe. Living in the Light, goes against her every natural instinct but her husband Jacob is there to guide her every step of the way. He is her saving grace, her protector. Handling her with both a tender and hard hand.



Stella Montgomery is a tenacious investigative reporter. When her best friend disappears she knows it is up to her to get to the bottom of it. Too caught up in the case as the clues begin to unravel, she soon learns the cost of enlightenment and must come to terms with her actions.

Into the Light is a book you have to go in blind, just like the MC, Sara, we must awaken and learn as she learns, processing the truths and the reality as it all unfolds. There are almost two story lines happening at the same time, though nothing too complicated to where you feel lost. I think Iit was needed to fully wrap your head around it all and come to your own terms. This story took me by surprise, I LOVED the mystery, the suspense and the thrill of the unknown... it was truly addicting.

But I have to say, what I most of all I loved about this story was the truth of Jacob and Sara. Regardless of everything that happens to them, there is this sense of purity that is just for them to share alone. I can't get into it too much,because it's one you just have to live through yourself. This is the first of the duet, so be prepared for an ending that will leave you speechless, the only consolation I can give you is that there is no wait on the second and final installment, allowing you to jump right in. Highly recommended for sure!

When Stella Montgomery, an investigative journalist, starts looking into the deaths of unknown women who’s fingerprints have been burned off in Detroit, she doesn’t realize how close she is getting to learning about the fundamentalist cult, “The Light.” When she realizes that there might be a connection between “The Light” and the disappearance of her best friend, Mindy, nothing can stop Stella from investigating, not even her boyfriend, Dylan, who is a detective in the Detroit Police Department.

Stella’s narrative alternates with Sara Adams, a member of “The Light.” Sara, who has just woken up in the hospital after suffering injuries in a brutal accident, can’t remember a thing about her past. She doesn’t remember her husband Jacob, how she came to join “The Light,” or the teachings of the community. As a female member of “The Light,” Sara has no power; she isn’t even allowed to ask questions to any of the males in the community. She must simply accept their word or suffer the consequences and receive “correction” (i.e. a beating) from her husband. Sara feels as if there is something wrong, but eventually starts adapting to her life with Jacob and the community. She eventually falls in love with Jacob, but in the back of her mind, she knows that life in “The Light” isn’t what it appears to be.

Into the Light is filled with mystery and romance. It’s also a little creepy and disturbing at times. Please note, this is book one in the series and it ends with a cliffhanger, so you must read book two, Away from the Dark to find out what happens to Sara, Jacob, and Stella. I highly recommend this series.

I know it's said a lot, but Into the Light is a perfect example of a book that shouldn't be spoiled. I think for most readers, going in with as little knowledge as possible would be best. If you are a fan of suspenseful readers, that will have your mind spinning, this is a book to read. Unfortunately for me, many of the twist and turns weren't all that surprising, which took away from the overall enjoyment of reading a dark and twisty suspense. I wanted to be shocked, I wanted that epic mind fuck. Can't win them all, though. That said, it was a solid read with an interesting array of characters and I look forward to seeing what will happen in the next book.

I have to admit that I didn't like the author's previous series, 'Consequences', so I started listening this book without expectation, but... OMG, this was a crazy ride! this book was genius!!! 👏💥
I didn't expect that twist at the end of the book, but what I liked most was that compared to other books about cults (because they are all very similar) was that the sex wasn't the center of the story... but the mystery, action and the creepy moments in which I thanked God that I was the one making the decisions at home, and not my husband! 😂😂😂

I don't know what to say, I'm speechless!!What a ride, Into the light, really messed up with my head! I was confused, anxious and shocked. It took me by surprise and in the end, I was left wondering, what did I just read?!?!?! Aleatha Romig is a brilliant writer, and I'm curious to see how she will continue this story.



I can't say a lot about what is happening because I don't want to give anything away! But keep in mind that in this story you'll find three POVS. Stella, who is looking for her missing friend, Sara, and her husband Jacob. I have to say that I liked each of these characters. They intrigued me and I found them very interesting.



I'm still thinking about how well the author managed to combine the mystery, the romance, the twists and the suspense! Everything was perfect put together making this brilliant story!
Be prepared because this story is going to keep you on the edge of your seat wishing for more!!I can't wait for the second book!!

Aleatha Romig is one of my favorite authors, with her Consequences series being among my favs of all time. This book came out during a time that I was taking a hiatus from life. Between that and my NetGalley addiction (damn you NetGalley!!!), I am just now getting caught up. It's nice to see that Aletha hasn't lost her touch. Looooordy this woman can weave a tale like no other. She has a way of taking strong women and making them vulnerable in the most nightmarish ways.

I fell into this story immediately, when I wasn't reading it, all I could think about was getting back to it. Oh man, what an incredible and unique plot. Although told from 3 POV's, Jacob, Stella and Sara, I found the chapters featuring Sara particularly absorbing. From the wtf storyline to the no friggin way twists to the what in the actual fuck is happening clues to the holy crap ending...I have no choice but to immediately dive into Away From the Dark.

When I saw the genre of this book I knew I had to have it and surely enough It was a winner. An absolute mind thriller full of suspense and twists; Aleatha's writing at it's best!. I can't stop thinking about this story even after four days this story keeps replaying in my head and I am extremely anxious awaiting patiently for the next book in this thrilling series.



Stella Montgomery; an investigative journalist is looking for her missing friend Mindy who banished and disappeared out of the blue. She knows in her heart something bad happened to her best friend and she is willing to do anything to find her. Stella is dating detective Dylan Richards; she could ask him for help but she does not want to compromise their relationship; therefore she tries to keep things from him and so does he. She has been warned by her lover to stay away from certain areas because they are dangerous; Stella had a goal and not even over protective detective will stop her to get the answers she needs.

Sara Adams; wakes up from a horrible accident without any memory of what happened to her. Her husband Jacob is with her helping her remember and assisting her on each step of her recuperation. Somehow Sara has a weird feeling that she does not belong there; however each day she starts to adjust to her new life without a single memory of her past. Jacob as her husband is trying his best to help her but in doing so he has to teach her discipline. She slowly starts falling all over for this man who takes care of her. She knows he is kind and she hates herself for not remembering this gorgeous man.




Jacob Adams; is desperate to help his wife Sara. He loves and and wants what's best for her. They are members of this church; however this church seems more like a prison. They have their own laws and rules and Jacob is so dedicated to follow them all because it's the right thing to do. He finds himself conflicted trying to do what's best but at the same time he don't want to hurt his wife.



Will Stella finds her best friend?! Will Sara finally remembers her past?! what is going on with this mysterious church and most of all will Sara stay with her husband when she find out her truth?? So many questions and twists; however we will have to wait patiently to find out all of this on the next book in this fantastic and extraordinary series. I was so conflicted while reading this book there were so many things happening and I felt like I couldn't read fast enough to get to the bottom of everything. I had so many theories and questions but as I keep reading toward the end I was utterly shocked and flipping out; nothing is what it seems and every time you think you know you better think again. This book will have you second guessing everything you thought and will have you on the edge of your seat. Lovers of crime/thrillers and suspense look no more this book is for you.

Into The Light is an amazing, full of twists and turns, mysterious, suspenseful, wild roller coaster of a ride. There are two story lines happening. Life in a cult called The Light and Life in Detroit. This story is basically told in 3 POV's -Sara Adams, Jacob Adams and Stella Montgomery.

From the very beginning to the very end, your mind is constantly on high alert. In true Aleatha fashion, she weaves a very twisted story. What you think in one chapter gets altered in another and then you are back to square one. It's constantly a maze of theories and ideas of who, what, why and where!!!

Life in a cult is fascinating and puzzling. Sara Adams wakes up from an accident, she has a husband and a life......but No Memory. Jacob Adams is her husband and she must believe all he says. He seems protective of her, he never leaves her side at the hospital, he seems trusting and caring, he assures her as her sight is temporarily shielded. She must reacclimate to life in The Light. A life where men control women and when women don't do as the doctrine of Father Gabriel says then a "correction" is needed.

Then there is the story of Stella Montgomery who is an investigator for a news reporter. She has a boyfriend, Dylan, who is a homicide detective. Stella's best friend Mindy has disappeared and she has made it her mission to find out what happened to her. While trying to figure out her friend Mindy's whereabouts, Stella's is still working on a story that is suddenly alive with questions and intrigue involving The Light.

Three people, two plots and one amazing story. The secondary characters are just as complex and just as intriguing as the main characters. They compliment the stories and add both good and evil flavors. It's a story that held my attention, had my mind trying to figure out every possible connection and wouldn't let me put it down.

I went into this story blind and I have to say I think it's the way to go. What you read above is all I'm gonna say. There are too many places that spoiling the story would be easy and I would never want to do that. What I love most when I open an Aleatha Romig book is that I'm going on a journey. A journey that is filled with twist and turns, full of mystery, and lots of gripping moments where I am completely surprised and amazed.

Whether this is your first Aleatha Romig book or not, her books weave a tangled web that are perplexing and suspenseful. She never disappoints to mess with your mind and have you thinking about her stories for weeks!!! I loved every minute of this story and can not wait for book 2!!!

This is a really hard review to write as I am still coming down from the read and my emotions are

Which is what happened throughout this book. I found I got bored, upset, angry and tense at all different stages of the book, this is why Aleatha is such a great author she takes you an an emotional roller coaster that when it stops your like WTF was that!!

I have read about triggers and never understood as I am pretty open to anything, however I believe books with organised religious groups/colts/secs may be an emotional trigger for me. It just gets me mad, angry and annoyed.

I realise that this was the first book in the series so all the details have to be hammered out but I found myself waiting

What for? not sure, it felt like there was something huge going to happen but no just more information. I think the ending was meant to be a big shock but there was clues and suggestions leading to that conclusion through the hole book.
Okay that totally sounds like I am bashing this book and did not like it, wrong. A good book will pull you in and bring out your strongest emotions and that is what I like in a dark read, you do not have to agree with the subject matter or condone it.
The writing was brilliant and I enjoyed this although less than other Aleatha Romig books. I will gladly one click the next in the series :)

I was hooked from the first page to the last, I became invested in the characters and totally curious about one of the male protagonist. Fascinated by the story and the possibilities of the answers within. Deduction and mind boggling clues will all be experienced in the reading process. I'm in total awe of the story weaved by Aleatha Romig, a story that twists and turns through the writing canvas producing the most thrilling suspense.

INTO THE LIGHT is told in the first person narrative and from multiple perspectives, providing a plethora of angles, character thoughts and feelings ensuring the reader's high engagement in the narrative and suspenseful aspect. It unfolds perfectly, revealing the story arc details as and when we need them kept me on the edge of my seat.



Aleatha Romig is the Queen of weaving an alluring, somewhat deranged tale and she does just that with INTO THE LIGHT, a suspenseful, romantic thriller that's just incredibly brilliant, hopeful, dark, thrilling and twisted. My mind worked overtime, I fathomed one aspect early on, which of course was super satisfying to me, but there's so much I didn't which was just brilliant. The end of this first part is a perfect balance of revelation and WHAT-WILL HAPPEN NEXT? There are so many possibilities and really nothing more I can note or say about this story without spoiling a reader’s discovery. I highly recommend readers to jump right INTO THE LIGHT and be ready for the second in this two part series, AWAY FROM THE DARK releasing October 18th 2016

Sara Adams woke up in a hospital with no recollection of who she was. Her husband Jacob, who she didn't even remember, became her anchor in re-learning her past life - a life centered around a peculiar and isolated community known as The Light.

Stella Montgomery was an investigative journalist. When her friend went missing, she was determined to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance. Her sources and researches revealed there might be something bigger going on out there. She never realized her poking around could lead to a blinding revelation.



I started this book without actually knowing what it's about, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out it revolved around a subject that I always find to be fascinating.

I completely understood why I didn’t remember: I didn’t want to.

It was interesting to see how Sara re-integrated herself into the lifestyle she couldn't recall. Her desire to do right overcame what's rooted deep inside of her.



As a loyal follower, Jacob's actions sometimes made me hated him. But I'm glad he had his own soul searching to deal with.

Stella was the typical driven woman who wouldn't back down from a lead. She was fearless in her quest to find her friend to the point of ignoring the big picture.

One minute I’d fantasized about him, the next I’d feared him.

What I love about the author's books is how they're never straight forward. I enjoyed getting lost in the twists and turns of a story. This book has plenty. However, I pretty much figured out every single one of them, and that took away a fraction of my enjoyment.

As the reality of my circumstance settled in my consciousness , my desire to question slipped away. The acceptance of my life was a relief that allowed me to concentrate on what and who was around me.

I enjoyed reading about "the culture" especially the psychological aspects of both sides. But I did have problem with the pace for most of the book. It was too mellow for my liking. Thankfully, the last 20% was highly engaging and made up for earlier issue.

Into The Light is an interesting tale of finding oneself and doing what's right. It would appeal to fans of mystery/suspense a hint of romance. Even though the book ends with a cliffy, the author did a good job answering questions and tying up loose ends for a satisfying ending that will make readers want for more.

Into the Light, the 1st book in Aleatha Romig's The Light Duet is a romantic, psychological thriller with a very intriguing and unique plot.

The pacing begins a bit slow but picks up half way, by which time I was completely engrossed . Told from multiple POV'S, we get the different and yet interwoven stories of the three main characters. Stella Montgomery an investigative reporter who is trying to discover what happened to her friend's disappearance and also the mystery of the bodies dead women that are showing up. From Sara, who has woken up in hospital with no memory of who she is, we get a look at what life is in a religious cult. And then we have Jacob, Sara's husband and one of the leaders of The Light cult. The setting of life in a cult is both chilling and eerie.

As the story progressed, I became more and more immersed in the characters and their stories and not knowing what to expect with the turning of the next page.

Despite me kind of having an idea of what would happen in the end, I was still surprised by the cliffhanger.

This is my first book by this author and I am looking forward to reading more of her work....especially the next one...After the Light.

I love this author's writing and the way she brings you right into the story like your part of it.

Captivating & Perfectly Paced .... I was unable to pull myself away from this book for very long! I was so enthralled that I literally lost track of time.

I don't want to say much because it could spoil all the surprises and happenings that caught me off guard.

Memory is a very precious thing!

Here is an excerpt from page 34 : Sara "The doctors words brought my reality back with a vengeance. I was at the mercy of these people, people I couldn't see or remember. People with frightening tones, rules, and decrees. I clenched my teeth and searched my memory for anything. Anything to confirm that I belonged here or anything to confirm that I didn't."

I have 3 other books I need to read, but I'm really wanting to dive into Away From the Dark (Book Two of The Light Series) which of course I've already purchased!

Good lord. I absolutely love when a book leaves you feeling like "what the heck just happened". This book leaves me completely feeling off kilter. I thought I may have figured this one out, I came close but now I know I wasn't.....

It's hard to review this kind of book with out giving anything away. There's several parts of this book so I'm gonna focus on the main part. Cults. You could call The Light one.

Sara Adams wakes up from a horrific accident where she doesn't remember anything. Not only that, she can't see for several weeks. She has to relearn everything. She learns that she's most secure with her husband that she doesn't recall at all. She 're' falls in love with him and it's amazing to read. They have to live by the rules of Father Gabriel or else suffer the corrections of any misdoings. And there are several :-(( She finds her groove with living this life, loving her friends, her job, her community. But above all else she loves her husband.


Jacob Adams is a strong loving man. He's mysterious and wants to please not only his wife but his leader. I always knew there was more this man was hiding, I could never pinpoint exactly what it was. I was so very wrong....


This book started out slow for me, I'm always nervous reading about cults, sects, whatever it is they are called. However

It got so good, I couldn't put it down. I thank god I'm one that won't start a series anymore without the finishing book out cause I'm dying to get into the next one!!! I pray this ends the right way for me!! Because I think I fell in love with these two❤️

How is it even possible that I've not read anything by this author previously!! The synopsis and cover kind of grabbed my attention but what cinched the deal was seeing the LONG list of people wanting to get their grabby little hands on this!! Sooooo of course I had to sign up!!

INTO THE LIGHT: Sara Adams awakes blind, and is forbidden to talk, unable to remember the most basic details of her life, and awakens in a hospital bed supposedly from injuries sustained in a car accident, but of course she doesn't remember any of these details and has to rely on her husband, Jacob's account of things.

Sara was informed that she'd been driving Jacob's truck to pick up supplies he requested, but driving outside of the community was forbidden.

As Sara struggles to understand her place in the strange world she’s awakened to it's almost like she's being brainwashed into believing what the cult tell her, how she sustained her injuries, the vows she took with her husband that she can't remember. All of these things don't make sense.



As days go by Sara starts to adjust to her new life without a single memory of her past..

told in multiple POV'S ( Sara, Jabob & Stella) the story line runs smoothly, and with it having this amount of POV'S it allows for a deeper layer into each characters perspective.



Jacob said my vocal cords and eyes had been injured in the accident.

I can't believe how easy it is to get dragged into this story, as you progress further into the story line not all is as it seems, you kind of need to don your investigative cloak to unravel things.

Jacob had arrive at the Northern Light three years ago and worked as one of their pilots

Stella has just recently started dating a detective named Dylan Richards she fears asking his help on her friends missing case could jeopardize their relationship so doesn't feel right involving him.

Meanwhile Stella is investigating the disappearance of her friend Mindy Rosemont who disappeared without a trace, and also the subsequent disappearances of young woman ranging from the age of eighteen to about thirty years of age.

I'm throwing my 5 stars at this, it's not normally a genre I tend to jump on, but the writing was so well done, I was drawn into the story line from that very first page, loved the mystery surrounding the cult, the anticipation, the suspense, this book had layer upon layer, so many aspects of this book had me questioning everything, and then once I reached the end MOST of my theories were WRONG!! Does this have a cliffy YES it DOES, and F#ck me it's a WHOOPER!!

I knew it. That cliffy. I knew it was coming!!!





This was amazing, simply unputdownable! Aleatha Romig has once again outdone herself with this compelling psychological thriller. Although the plot was a bit predictable and the twist at the end didn’t blow me away as much as I expected, the whole story was extremely intense and it had me hooked right off the bat. As the story progressed, I became more and more engrossed in this book and continually curious about the characters’ futures. I was excitedly eager to turn the next page, yet at the same time I felt as if my heart was in my throat, afraid that something bad would happen to them.

I must admit, personally, some violent scenes in this book were a little bit outside my comfort zone, but somehow, I managed to work through them. For me, Into the Light is one of my tough reads. I really did enjoy it though.

I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read it yet, so I think I'd better stop right here.

By the way, if you’re looking for a gripping book, a combination of heart-pounding thriller and steamy romance, then you shouldn’t miss this one. I can assure you that it won’t disappoint you. Highly recommended!

I haven't been this upset by a cliffhanger in a really time and I don't know whether to continue my tantrum that I developed after finishing this, or just go completely insane for the next four months. My god, I don't think I will make it that long to be honest, especially with these effed up characters.

Imagine waking up in the hospital with no memory of who you are and you're sight is temporarily gone. That's been the reality for Sara Adams and to say that she's utterly confused and scared is an understatement. Feeling a warm touch and a soothing voice, she also learns that the voice belongs to her husband. A man that she has no memory of or connection with couldn't possibly be her husband right? You would think that surprises would end there, but noooooooo. She learns that they're also a part of "The Light" which is a very different and a closely guarded community.

Jacob Adams has felt nothing but relief knowing that his wife is going to make a full recovery. Found severely beaten along with the temporary loss of her sight, Jacob has vowed to do everything in his power to protect his wife. But when you're part of "The Light", there are rules that you have to abide by or there will be consequences. Can Jacob keep his promise to protect Sara as well as himself?



Stella Montgomery is an investigative reporter and she's been looking into her best friend's dissapearance for quite some time. Hitting dead end after dead end, she finally gets a break and what started out as finding her friend, became a story that went beyond her wildest imagination. What exactly is "The Light"? Is her friend still alive? I truly felt I was going bat shit crazy with all these questions and I couldn't read fast enough to know what was going to happen.

I thought I was so smart thinking that I knew who was who, but this author threw me for a loop at the very end! One shocking moment I could handle, but two?! I needed to punch someone with that ending. Those four words messed me up and because of that, I had to give this a solid 4 stars. I know this review is kind of vague, but I have no choice but to leave it at that and please ,if you do decide to read this one, STAY AWAY FROM THE SPOILERS! AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LOTS OF ALCHOHOL!!

Aleatha Romig has done it again!!! Yes, this amazing and talented author has hands down delivered a book that was utterly raw, fresh, suspenseful and mind-blowing. Ms. Romig has taken her readers down the proverbial rabbit hole where secrets, betrayal, duplicity, and suspense comes Into the Light.

“ Because I was her husband, my role was infinitely important. The only road to my continued success within The Light was through her.”

Into The Light was unlike any book that I have read. Readers will be left blinded as we are taken into the light where drama, secrets, truths, and chicanery are thrown full into the light or should I say darkness. The beauty of this this book is that literally readers are left in the darkness of what is going on but in true Aleatha Romig, she masterfully and slowly unravels and exposes the truth. Readers like myself are left wondering what are the intent and motive of these characters. I know that I am being vague in the sense as to what secrets will be unraveled. And that is because this story must be read through the eyes and perspective of Sara, Jacob and Stella. You must go through the torment and calculative motives in order to understand what is needed for survival. But what I can tell you is that Into The Light deals with a cult church community and so readers will be exposed to the cunning and hypocrisy of certain characters in the story line.



While this book is unlike anything I have read before, Ms. Romig of course doesn’t disappoint as she does sprinkle a little romance into the mix. So for all you romantic suspense fans, will Sara Adams be able to trust the man that is said to be her husband, Jacob? Or will Sara uncover the truth and regain the memories that she lost? Will she discover that sometimes being in the light is not what it is cracked up to be? Are we better off left in the dark?

“Despite everyone’s best efforts to the contrary, my past continued to begin the day I awoke in the clinic, nearly four months ago. My cast was gone and my body healed. It was my mind that couldn’t remember.”

All there is left to say, that ending...OMG!!!! Yes, I can’t wait for the next installment and conclusion of this romantic suspense thriller. So if you are looking for a book that was brilliantly told then look no further than Into The Light. Be prepared to get hypnotized with Ms. Romig’s mesmeric prose as she will hold you hostage in one mind-blowing and calculating romantic suspense thriller.
