A collection of stories and memories by Herman (Pat) Herst, Jr. about his days as a stamp dealer on Nassau Street in New York City in the 1950s and 1960s. Nassau Street was the center of the stamp business during these decades. Nassau Street was first published in 1960. Although the book was reprinted several times, this seventh edition published by Linn's in 1988 was the first revised edition.
I devoured this book with great interest. It went along with a hobby that I found equally interesting: stamp collecting. I read an early edition, which is not listed here. Since it was a library book and I don’t have access to it I cannot add this edition to the goodreads listing. I even traveled to Nassau Street to explore the area. I don’t think I found any stamp dealers then on ground floors and I was reluctant to explore the offices above. I found a dealer in the neighborhood where I bought a good deal of stamps for approval. He was a wholesaler and sold only to dealers. He said he never heard of me and did not see any of my ads but he sold me some stamps. I am sure they are still in the attic.
