Refreshingly Quirky
And although about a kidnapping it has some great humour, real LOL lines, and let’s face it laughing out loud at the moment is something to be appreciated
I felt this book was a cross between a Whodunit, A Farce ( in the good way ) and an episode of a high octane thrill chase series, and you know even though that sounds like it couldn’t work it really really does
The Characters are so well done, my favourite being Miss Chambers from next door and they manage to be ordinary yet bizarre at the same time
The writing is friendly and as each character takes a chapter I almost felt they were there with me telling their side of the tale ( this was past and present ) and you could be forgiven for answering them back as you were reading, a unique writing style that I fell into straight away and really loved
As for the story, well the reason for the kidnapping is due to an artefact the lead’s Dad had been working on secretly for many years, anymore would give too much away, the ending was in keep with the rest of the book!
I found this book really different, engaging, fresh and it kept me reading more or less without stopping as felt like I had friends round for the day ( remember that )

Originality alone its a

Lost Connections is my first introduction to this authors work.

This story itself is one very much of mystery and suspense. The reader is in the same position as Eddie, wondering why someone would abduct his daughter. There is a lot of mystery and un answered questions surrounding Eddie’s father, which the story flicks between past and present so that we gradually get to know more about Eddie’s upbringing and events from the past.

It kind of felt like one of those National Treasure films starring Nicholas Cage. It isn’t just about Eddie getting his daughter back, it is also about Eddie uncovering secrets about his father which in turn helps him to understand his troubled relationship that he had with him.

Lost Connections is ideal for readers who like a good solid suspense novel at a slower pace. With likeable and some not so likeable characters, it has something for everyone. Look forward to reading more by the author in the future.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of Lost Connections, having followed Jim's Journey updates over on Crime Book Club on Facebook. And I have to say I was thrilled Jim got his book published.

First of all I love the cover and title which I think is very eerie and totally relates to the story.

The prologue is straight in there with single parent Eddie's daughter being being bundled into a van and kidnapped. So I was gripped from the start and read this in one sitting just wanting to know more. The kidnappers want something of Eddie's father’s. But his father mysteriously disappeared over 7 years ago, and Eddie has no idea what it is. Friends and neighbours who put their differences aside and help Eddie get his daughter Daisy back. The story flicks from the past to the present written from several characters points of view unfolding a huge secret.

This is a well written Debut novel with realistic characters that I could relate to. I found it very original it's not often you read about a single parent father that is a tattooist. And omg Jim has left us on a cliffhanger. I have my fingers crossed there is going to be sequal.

Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this thrilling page turner and I am giving it 4 stars. Thank you to Jim Ody for a copy in exchange for a honest review.

This is the first book I have read by Jim Ody although I have heard good things in its journey towards publication.

The story begins with a prologue and we are immediately thrown in to the action as Ed's daughter, Daisy, is kidnapped, in a flash, in front of his eyes. And so begins a rough ride to get her back that involves friends and neighbours who put aside their differences to help.

An absent father who may be dead (but may not) and the demands of being a single parent are probably enough for Ed but fate has other ideas as his daughter is placed in danger by something his father had or did but what is it?

There are many unique characters which build throughout the story I especially like Ed and Daisy there is something I really love about children being involved in thrillers. They are so resilient and resourceful and I wasn’t disappointed with Daisy she is a realistic well built character I am hoping to meet again in future books.

A steady read but a very interesting one with plenty of shockers.

This is a truly FUN book! The author fills the pages with clever prose, great descriptions and very sharp wit. An interesting assortment of characters and a twisting plot keep you turning the pages. I loved the elderly neighbor living next door to our protagonist and the humorous exchanges between the two of them. There is suspense and a mystery at the heart of the story plus a great twist at the end.
A really enjoyable read and excellent debut novel, which I strongly recommend.

I thought that this book was very good and a great read!  The book starts off at a great pace which continues to the end.  You really are left guessing, and wondering why everything has happened and as the book slowly unravels everything is revealed.

The location is great for the book and the suspense building up is great. The book has some great characters and the word play is great which a touch of comedy and wit in the right places to set the book apart from others of its genre, it gives it a slightly different slant and I really enjoyed that aspect.

I have given the book four stars and recommend it to any fans of psychological thrillers/crime/suspense books!  Very much looking forward to reading his next book!

What a super mystery this was from Jim Ody. The more I read of Jim's work the more I appreciate his writing, he's a very clever wordsmith, and believe me, I don't utter those words lightly, I can assure you.

This one is full of mystery and suspense from the get-go. An intriguing puzzle leads to the kidnapping of a family member. I won't say who for fear of spoiling it for the other readers.

The way the author presented the mystery was clever and I loved the characters, especially his neighbour, I almost spit my coffee out laughing at the banter between the two of them on several different occasions.

Eddie is a laid back character except when his buttons are pressed by the wrong people.

I must admit I had a tear in my eye at the end of the book, why? You'll have to read it and see. :-)

Happy to recommend this amazing mystery.

You have to love a book that is shrouded in mystery as soon as you begin to read it and that is exactly what Jim Ody gives you. A puzzle, a kidnapping and a burial 7 years before that had to take place without a body! By now you are on the 5th page of the book. Pretty cool. Now time to rewind and see how it all came about.

This is brilliant entertainment as I didn't get quite what I thought I was going to get, I got much more. There is a tight bunch of characters so it is really easy to know where everyone fits into the story and you do get background to how they all came together. The story itself centres around Eddie, the disappearance of his father, Eddie's daughter Daisy and a mix of his overlapping personal and professional life. Eddie is normally a very steady going fellow, certainly more forgiving and laid back than most. There is also some light humour in this book. I particularly liked the banter between Eddie and his next door neighbour.

I loved the direction that the story took me in and I am sure that it will leave most readers with the same 'wow I wish' feeling that it felt me with. Jim Ody has his second novel coming out later this year which I am already looking forward to. Jim Ody is an author to watch!

When his daughter is kidnapped all hell is let loose. Eddie has to work out what his Dad has hidden that the kidnappers want so much that they took Daisy! And his Dad has been missing for years.
His friends and some family help him in sorts to work out what’s going on.
A suspenseful tale that does swap between characters & time but is not confusing. Each character is well padded out and is either likeable or unlikeable depending on what side they’re on.
Another great book by Jim Ody

Mystery Thriller with a lot of different things mixed up together that you might think will not go well together but was really played well in this novel. An exciting story that will make sense as each POV reveals something that can be connected to everything…

This is a great read.
I love Jim’s books as there’s often something supernatural running through them but not too much to take anything away from the story.
In this book Ed’s daughter Daisy is kidnapped whilst they are both at his missing father’s old property.
Ed receives a text telling him not to go to the Police and that he will hear more soon.
When he gets home his elderly neighbour tells him some men had been round looking for him and she took a photo of their van. Ed gives the details to another neighbour, Jez and they set to work trying to find out what’s behind the kidnapping.
I’ve come across Jez in other books by Jim Ody and I really do like his character as he’s just a funny guy.
Things come to a nail biting conclusion and I loved the Epilogue.
Thanks to Jim Ody for sending me a copy to read.

Eddie takes Daisy his twelve year old daughter to Caulfield Hall a family home he inherited after his father Gordon went missing over seven years ago and was declared officially dead after five. He decided it was time to make some money from it.

When the man sees Eddie he tells him his father has something that belongs to them and he wants it back. Eddie is puzzled tells him his father is dead with the distraction the man bundles Daisy into the van before Eddie can get his focus back they are gone. He has no idea what they are after but he will do anything to get his daughter back.
What is it they are after will Eddie figure it out and be able to get to Daisy before it’s too late?

Brilliant book

This is a brilliant book for a debut.  The reader is thrown straight into the action as soon as you start reading and never lets up until the end.

The book starts with a prologue, in which the main characters daughter is bundled into a vehicle and kidnapped.  Form this moment on the kidnappers demand things from Eddie's father, who disappeared a long time ago, and Eddie has no idea what it is or how to get it.

The story itself is interesting as it follows the main characters and the reader learns everything at the same time as the characters, in trying to find out how to rescue Eddie's daughter and find out what the mysterious item his dad has, which the kidnappers want.

Overall I read the book in one sitting as I couldn't put it down and I can't wait to read the sequel.  Definite 5 star book

This is the first book I’ve read by Jim Ody and I was pleasantly surprised. At first, I thought Lost Connections was going to be a straightforward, maybe heart-wrenching book about the kidnap of Daisy, the daughter of Eddie, the main character, but the book became more intriguing and multifaceted as I read on, with jewels of humour scattered about to win me over. There weren’t too many characters to confuse me; they were all credible and I particularly enjoyed Jez and Miss Chambers. As a spunky, independent young girl, Daisy was a breath of fresh air. The writing style flowed smoothly and the author handled the plentiful dialogue well. The flashing back and forth between the past and present went without a hitch, which meant I never struggled to keep my grasp on the plot. I like reading unusual, nonformulaic stories; with the introduction of a time machine, invented by Eddie’s missing father, Lost Connections turned out to be an unusual, well-written, entertaining story with a satisfying twist at the end I appreciated.

This is a mystery novel with a twist. Having found out that the main character's daughter has been kidnapped, we are then introduced to his complex friends & family, all with issues & all with colourful pasts. As the story progesses, the reader is treated to some witty one-liners & a fast-paced narrative as the jigsaw is pieced together to work out how & why Daisy has been taken. With an unexpected ending that left me open-mouthed, it was a great read. I look forward to more by this talented author.

We are immediately thrown in the deep end with Lost Connections, Eddie's daughter is kidnapped and his father has disappeared, all within the first five pages! Talk about hooking you in!
Jim is very cleaver in his writing, starting at the end and then flashing back through the view points of several characters, building up to reveal the reasons behind his daughters kidnapping.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know about the special shelf I have for those authors who manage to do the whole past/present flashback plot lines. These are typically told in the first person, but not for Jim, Jim brings us a web of past and present flashbacks from several different characters - without confusing or hindering the story. Bravo Jim, BRAVO!
It works so well as Jim is a fantastic story teller, the characters are so interesting and realistic that it is hard not to get sucked into their world and feel what they are feeling. A nicely paced build up across the first half of the book brings us to a speedier pace as the secrets start to be revealed, leading a gripping, edge of your seat read that will literally leave you wondering what the heck just happened!
Jim manages to bring mystery, crime, humour, love, loss and suspense all at once and do you know what?
It works.
Really well!
Lost Connections is a really strong start to what I can only imagine will be a fantastic writing career for this author, Jim Ody is definitely one to watch out for in 2017!!
Many thanks again Jim for sending me a copy, as you know, it has a place on my special book shelf!

A great debut novel from Jim Ody, he creates some really nice characters that are described very well indeed. An interesting story line about the kidnapping of his daughter, this is not a spoiler, it is given in the prologue. Not often we have a tattoo artist as the main character.

My first foray into the mind of Jim Ody and I was very impressed. A great story with a good cast of characters, which moves along at a good pace. I liked the writing which was easy to read with a good balance of dialogue and description. My only problem with the book was related to chapter 33, and a character called Bob. The chapter was only a couple of pages 2 and a half, if memory serves, but for me it was cringe worthy at best. This Bob character is from Yorkshire, and as the book is written in first person, the chapter is written in a very stereotypical Yorkshire manner with dialogue that would embarrass a 1970s Hovis advert. I have lived in Yorkshire for the majority of my life and have never, ever heard anybody from this century speak like this. It actually made me angry, and for 5 rage induced minutes it took me out of the story. The chapter does not even need to be in the book as its events could have been explained in two sentences. I can't believe the editor decided to leave it in!!!
It is however not a deal breaker as the rest of the book is otherwise excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend this book, and look forward to reading more from Mr Ody. (but if you are from Yorkshire, just skim chapter 33!)

Great read!!! This did start out to be a low read at first for me. However, it did eventually pick up to be very interesting. I love the that this was a mystery read but also had aspects of being somewhat supernatural. Eddie is a strong man that is able to defend himself and others but yet his daughter was kidnapped in front of his face and he could not stop it. Eddie has been through a lot with his dad disappearing 7 years previous to this and his women and mother of his child had cheated on him with his best friend. But life goes on for him and he does the best he can to raise his daughter. He has to use the help of his friends to find find his daughter. The kidnappers want something that was his dad's but he has no clue what it is. Therefore, he has to work fast to discover what the object is and get his daughter back. His daughter is strong willed herself which I also loved about this book. I loved the storyline and the details in this book. I would recommend this book.

Another great read from Jim Ody, think this is my favourite to date. There is no let up with this book the mystery, intrigue and drama grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go till the last page. Our main man Eddie is trying to do his best raising his teen daughter as a single father. Left the family home Cauldfield Hall from his eccentric father who seems to have upped and disappeared, A series of events unfold and it’s a race against time for Eddie to piece together what is happening and why. A group of loveable characters even though at first introductions some seem a little cantankerous, some a little blunt and rude and some just down right fluffy, but all together it just works. I won’t write too much about the storyline as this is the job of the blurb, to pull you in and grab your interest. I will say what a well written book and one that holds your attention and leaves you wanting to read more.

A great mix of crime, humour - and even a touch of romance!

Eddie's father disappeared some years ago and has been long since declared dead. He left behind something which others seem to be desperate to get their hands on but Eddie knows nothing about and they kidnap his daughter as leverage. Instructed not to go to police, Eddie enlists the help of his rag-taggle group of friends. Can they find this unknown item in time to trade it for Daisy?

What a smashing read! Even in the darkest moments, there is subtle humour. The characters are individual works of art, each more entertaining than the last. A good story made even better by this skilled author. It's refreshing to finally come across a female character who has watched the crime programmes and picked up the tricks that every reader knows about and wonders why characters don't! Then there's the house - who wouldn't want to live there? I recently watched Sarah Beeny's latest show about building a new family home in the country and they planned to have hidden doors and secret passages; she could pick up so many brilliant ideas just from reading this book! Fabulously entertaining and so very enjoyable, this has to be given all five stars.

When his daughter is kidnapped, and her ransom is a mysterious item, Eddie is left to discover the secrets of his childhood home, Caulfield Hall and the mystery of his father who disappeared 10 years previously. With no idea what the item is, Eddie gathers a mixed bunch of friends, a sharp tongued neighbour and his ex to get to the bottom of the abduction.
I found Lost Connections an intriguing read and I loved the feistiness of Eddie’s daughter Daisy. With each page I found myself drawn further into the story. I also enjoyed the flashbacks to Eddie’s childhood which brought the whole story together, culminating in a very satisfactory ending.
Another great book by Jim Ody and I’m looking forward to reading more by him.

The beginning of this book hit me with pure shock and awe and had me hooked instantly. There was no shortage of mysteries set up within the first few chapters, and I was eager to know more of how Eddie would go about solving them. As I read further, the story deepened layer by layer. I enjoy the mental adventure that Ody's books always take me on. As I got deeper and saw that more and more people were getting involved, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how things would turn out. The action at the end was intense and it was nearly impossible to put the book down. The ending was perfect. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from Jim Ody.

This is the first Jim Ody book I have read and it got off with a brilliant start where Eddy saw his daughter Daisy kidnapped before his eyes.
Just loved the characters Harry and Miss Chambers and the banter between them made me laugh loads, they could even have a cosy mystery series of their own.
Then the first half of the book had too many descriptions of everything that I kept forgetting what the story was about, then the second half saved it with less descriptions and more story.
Will definitely be reading more of his books

This book starts out with a bang, and the mystery and suspense goes until the very end! When Edward's daughter is kidnapped, he is told he needs to get "something" from his father's study. The only problem is he has NO idea what he is looking for. He and his friends are doing their best to figure out what the kidnappers want and how to get Daisy back. Who can Edward trust? Who is behind all of this? What do they want?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had me on the hook from page one! Jim Ody definitely outdid himself while writing this book. I had a very hard time putting this book down once I had started reading it! There is no expense on drama, friendships, love, and mistakes. All of which is woven into a wonderful tale! Would absolutely LOVE a sequel to be written, letting us readers know what has gone one after this one ended. Well Done Jim Ody!
