Ghosts of the Past #2

Ghosts from the Past

Rate this book
The follow-up novel to From Solitude sees Jacob struggle to recover from his ordeal when he begins to show a darker side to his personality. The voice from his past is haunting him. Is this a by-product of his head injury or something much more sinister? As Sally wonders, if this is an irreversible change in Jacob, she turns to an old friend and former lover for support.

Much to Sally's dismay, Jacob's change isn't all she's confronted with when her old flame Rain wants back into the picture. However, he's not alone as he brings a new friend too, and Sally's less than happy about it, especially when it conspires that this friend has not only designs on Rain but has her sights set on Jacob too.

Will Sally & Jacob be able to reconcile their love, conquer the obstacles in their path or will Shadows Past prove too much and drive them apart?

I grew up in Cambridgeshire, joining the RAF when I was 18. I then married and had my son. When I divorced, I moved back to my home town and raised my son there. Since moving back, I’ve worked mainly in retail, currently stretching my brain in an optician’s. I started writing in early 2013, as an escape from a job I hated and found that, not only did I enjoy the process, people seemed to like what I had written, so I’ve gone on to write several more books and have even more in progress. Outside of work and writing, I love reading (of course), cinema and theatre, especially a good musical. I also really enjoy photography and cruising. The latter giving me many opportunities to pursue the former. Apart from that, I drink far too much coffee, I like wine a little too much, my worse trait is probably procrastination and I have a weakness for black cats. I write romance novels and have also written teen fantasy under the pen name ‘Elise Rayne’. I am a bit of a publishing hybrid, I have titles published with Bella Tulip Publishing but I also have several independently published titles under my belt.

Jacob is the hospital after having been in a fire set by Sally's jealous ex. Sally is by his side, despite the fact that he told her he didn't want to be with her after he found out that she practiced Wicca. Sally is hopeful that he won't remember that conversation and they can get back to normal. During the next few months, both Sally and Jacob go through a tremendous amount of personal growth. They must make some difficult decisions. Can they make their way back to one another?

The first book in this series was a sweet romance about a boy turning into a man and learning about a world he had been denied. Sally, in reality, became a familiar comfort zone for Jacob. His transition was made easier by her, but in some ways she limited him. In this book, we get to see the complexities of him branching out and learning more about himself and the world. This book was much more emotional and heart wrenching than the first. There was also a lot more sex. I found myself wondering how it is possible for people to be ready and eager for sex SO often, though I do think that those scenes are well-written.

You will be holding your breath for the ending. :-)

I solemnly swear to give the best and most accurate review.
No biased reviews or misconceptions will you find here.

I edited this story.

This is the second book I have read by Lainy, and my second time reading about Sally and Jacob. And that goes without saying that I've enjoyed both times.

You return to the love story of Sally and Jacob right from where you left off in From Solitude.
Poor Jacob is in the hospital after his attack and the mishap at his farmhouse after his altercation with Sally.
At this point, Sally is just scared to death that Jacob doesn't want her anymore. He's seen her secret, and this could be it for the unlikely but adorable couple. Sally returns with Ryan and Sally's best friend Lindsay. Along with old flame and fellow Wiccan, Rain. The man who saved her all those years ago.
Rain is back in the picture but not totally how he would have hoped. Deep down inside he still loves Sally, but he can also see that she's in love with Jacob.
I don't want to give too much away, but it's unquestionably something you want to sink ya teeth into :P
