I have mixed feelings about this book. I love to hear Joyce speak. That is her true gift. The problem I have with her books is that they are very repetitive, and have little detail on the "how". This book is no different.

This book has a great message. It is basically cognitive behavioral therapy. Change your thoughts, and change your mood. Great! But this book gives little detail on how to do that other than to trust God. Even as a Christian, I need a little more than that. I can't just snap my fingers and change. It takes work. Joyce even says that. Okay, so...more detail please? Some kind of plan?

P.S.: It also really annoyed me when she said she gave away her 8 month old puppy because she was too much of a handful for her to continue following God's plan for her life. Umm, really? What about accepting responsibility and honoring your commitments? Wow.

The Mind Connection

Joyce Meyer the inspirational American teacher and author on Christian and in particular Biblical context teaching returns with The Mind Connection. Once again Joyce Meyer approaches a difficult subject, mental health and well being and how it affects our moods, behaviours and decisions. One of the great ways of dealing with mental health issues is through cognitive behavioural therapy, and this book is a course in that with Biblical interpretations included.

As someone who over the years has had mental health issues one goes through a various amount of therapies to find the one that works for you. In my case, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) works better than other therapies, but if you are ill you need your doctor and therapist to guide you to the therapy that works for you, as we are all different.

There are a total of twenty-one chapters that Meyer has broken down in to four sections and those sections are important:
• How Your Thoughts Affect Your Mind
• How Your Thoughts Affect the World Around You
• How Your Thoughts Affect Your Physical and Emotional Health
• How Your Thoughts Affect Your Walk with God

Each chapter within the sections addresses particular problems and challenges positively that thinking and how with passages from the Bible you can change your thoughts and cognitive processes by looking at life through a different approach that will be a positive to you. At the end of each chapter Meyer leaves you with something about and acts on.

What Joyce Meyer does well is addressing every reader directly and that by challenging our current thinking we can and will change for the better. By using the Bible and personal stories as well as reflection, something therapists’ use that we need to declutter our minds. By decluttering our minds we are clearing away those things that are blocking us and therefore empowering our negative thoughts. With a clearer mind it is easier to slowly begin our move forwards to better and more positive thinking, while not easy, we can all do.

One of the great things about The Mind Connection is that it does not preach at the reader, but wants to be used as a tool for better thinking. Rather than stand and shout at those with problems Meyer is sitting with them and holding their hand supporting them on their journey to wellness. This is an excellent book that shows how we can change ourselves with God’s help and be more positive about ourselves.

I love Joyce Meyer her books really helped me but this one it seems like a lot of repeat of what Joyce has said over the years specially if you read Power Thoughts or battlefield of the mind this one is direct copy 🤷🏾‍♂️, it is nice to have it divided into one book of emotions, I didn't like hearing the same stuff!!

I was excited to learn that the great Joyce Meyer's new book, The Mind Connection, was released on September 1, 2015! I was even more excited when I was offered a copy so that I could share the great news with all of you too! Not only did the kind people over at Hachette Book Group provide me with a copy of the book, you'll see at the bottom of this post that they have provided me with a copy for one of you lucky readers too!

Joyce Meyers expands on the wisdom of her bestselling books, Battlefield of the Mind and Power Thoughts, to explain how to improve the quality of your thoughts and your life. She explores the undeniable connection between the mind, mouth, moods, and attitudes, so that you can develop and maintain the right mental position to overcome every challenge you face. Through practical advice and Scriptural insights, Joyce will help you learn to think with purpose, gain greater confidence, and claim the joyful life you were meant to lead.

The chapter titles of The Mind Connection include:

The Life You’ve Always Wanted
Positive Self-Talk
The Power of Focus
How Your Thoughts Affect Your Physical and Emotional Health
How to Get Your Mind Back When You Feel Like You Have Lost It

The inspiration the Joyce Meyer shares is always a gift when she is speaking live from the pulpit or whether you are reading her books. She provides very deep insight on how we control our destiny and personal decisions through prayer and thoughtful contemplation. The book is broken into four sections that break down how we need to look within and outside of ourselves. Each chapter is set up similarly - they provide stories and Scripture supporting Joyce Meyers' position. The book flows as if she is presenting to you live, and it is easy to follow along as if I were learning from her morning sermon.

In this book, Joyce Meyer speaks to each of us readers discussing the connection between our thoughts, words, and actions. She shows us how each thought we have can (and will) come through when we continue to think about something - regardless of whether it is good or bad. We try so hard to keep our thoughts to ourselves, we stuff them and keep them internal, but somehow, someway, they will always find a way to come out.

Ms. Myers uses scripture, personal stories, and reflection while providing us with suggestions on how we can clear our minds from the clutter that often comes with too many thoughts. It's not easy, but she assures us that with God's help it can be possible. We are reminded that we are not put here on this earth to control the change in any other person but ourselves, because we know that God is able and we need to leave it in His masterful hands.

Meyer talks about the importance of being focused and discusses the importance of having a disciplined mind. She gives good food for thought, and practical situations to help clear our thoughts, and work with God to become the person he knows us to be. As always, she is well written and I was reminded of some very important ways to stay close in my walk with God.

I was very gratefully provided with a copy of this book without cost in exchange for my honest review and unbiased opinion.

I have read many books by this author and have listened to many talks by Joyce Meyer. Her teachings are to help Christians in their daily lives and are very common sense, which is the thing I love about her.
This book is in a series of books (Starting with Battlefield of the Mind) that helps you by God's word learn that so many problems start with our thoughts.
Great teaching and great book.

Too much scripture and religion (skimmed the homiletic sections!) but the bullet points at the end of the chapters and the inspirational quotes were worth it to me as I am trying to be more positive and optimistic in this present world. It is really hard work as this author says.

"Thoughts are boomerangs returning to their source.
Choose wisely which ones you throw." -Unknown.

"The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself."- Mark Twain.

In The Mind Connection, Joyce Meyer successfully presents a Christian perspective of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. I myself have struggled using this type of therapy, but Meyer gives some valuable insights how to engage in substituting biblically based thoughts for unwanted ones, so I am hopeful.
However dedicated readers of Meyer’s books may notice that she has substituted her usual scripture quotes with quotes from famous people at the beginning of each chapter. I prefer the scriptures and hope in her next books she will return to the older format.

PLEASE NOTE: Recurring depression and anxiety as well as racing unwanted thoughts can be signs of serious illness. Anyone suffering from these symptoms should seek help from a qualified medical professional specializing in treating mental disorders. Afterwards, this book could be used in conjunction with any medical treatments.

This book was given to me from Faith Words / Hatchette Books through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is like taking the battlefield of the mind to the next level as Joyce Meyer shows us the connection between our thoughts, words, and actions. Joyce in her artful use of scripture, personal experience, and reflection takes us by the hand and walks us through our self-talk and our adversaries whispers uncovering the root of why many of us are defeated.

Each chapter is stand alone in itself making this book most useful for teaching, home bible study, or in the adult Sunday school curriculum over weeks of time without any subject loss.

A religious book should clearly state in the description that it is a religious book. I didn't get it when I read the title or the description. There is only one reference to god in the description and overall it sounds like a regular self improvement book. I just listened to the first few minutes and was bombarded multiple times with the keywords "god", "Jesus", and "Christ". I didn't pay for this book to get a religious preaching. Shame on the author in tricking people with deceptive title and description.

Was truly looking forward to this book when I received it as a GoodReads Giveaway. I will not provide a 'star rating' though as I was unable to complete the book. I had hoped to glean some positive thinking from this book without being bombarded with scripture and religion (a bit of that is fine). The book was flooded with the former and I had a difficult time working through it.

Joyce Meyer does it again. She truly has a grasp on the power of thoughts and expertly teaches us how to manage our mind. The Mind Connection is a practical book, straightforward and to the point; what you think and how you think affects your entire life. Joyce is a terrific writer and has produced yet another book that is transformational.

Jesus based: I did not listen to this book. Nothing on the cover or blurb explained it would be all references to the Bible. If I knew the author I probably would have known, but the lack of detail that this would be Bible based is causing my low review. Again - I did not listen to the book. Please somewhere on the cover list this is bible based.

life changing!

If you have always thought there’s nothing you can do about the thoughts that you continually have, especially the wrong kind, this book is a must read. If you apply its principles, be ready to experience life in a new and fulfilling way. Biblically sound. Two thumbs up!

Some notes that I took:

* 'I have opportunities to be offended just like anyone else, but I have learned that I don't have to "take" offence. I can give it right back to Satan, who is the instigator of it'. - Pg. 78 Mid

* 'The Lord sees things differently than we often do. We see problems, but He sees possibilities. We see messes, but He sees miracles. We see endings, but He sees new beginnings. We see pain & pressure, but He sees spiritual growth.' - Pg. 106

* '..the way to break a thought pattern is to say something else. ..what we speak out of our mouths will get into our hearts. We can renew our thinking with purposeful words.' Pg. 219 Top

* The problems of life are opportunities to exercise the good things that God has filled us with. I will never develop patience if I never have a new to be patient. I will never develop self-control unless I am tempted to lose control. Pg. 224 Top

I did not enjoy this book. The author's tone sounds insulting and judgemental, then she throws in a bible verse to justify her judgemental tone. I do not recommend, especially if you are not religious. There are so many other books out there to help readers with their mind connection, and how, mood, behavior, and decisions affect it. Please read another book and don't waste your time with this one. I tried to read it, and write reflections with it, I even attended a book club for it, but it just didn't work. I could not get past her tone.

I chose this book because it has a purple cover (yes, really!) And thus it fitted into one of the categories in a fun reading challenge I am following online. In this book Joyce Meyer sets about showing us how profoundly influential our thoughts and attitudes and mindset are, in determining the course of our lives. A good message, though much of it is familiar to me. Nevertheless it's a message that bears repeating continually as there will always be those to whom it is new. My favourite bits were when the author used specific examples and anecdotes, especially from her own life experience.

I used to get up and watch tv when I couldn't sleep and sometimes I would see Joyce Meyer preach in giant auditoriums. Sometimes I liked her, I saw her as a matter of fact speaker who relates to people well. I've been getting into this practice of thought modeling and borrowed this audiobook from the library and I really liked it. Meyer's practical approach to these ideas helped calm my anxieties and reminded me of my faith, which is something I need when I wake up in the middle of the night, esp in these hard times.

Powerful book about training your mind - to think about what we think and practical steps to reduce negative thinking. Audio book - Read by the author herself which is a plus. Tried to read one of her other audio books read by a different person and it just wasn’t right. Joyce Meyer has a way of expressing herself and her thoughts to get her point across that not just anyone can pick up and do for her.

A very powerful and inspiring book. Our thoughts control how we both view and make choices in life. Realising this in my own life some years ago, it was a joy to read a book inspired from personal life experience. For anyone, not just Christians, who wish to live a more empowered life I highly recommend you read this - Joyce's down to earth and "real life" approach to changing your thoughts to ones that positively impact life will help you immensely.

This book narrated by Joyce herself is her forte. She tells you through various examples about we let our mind run riot and take over our thoughts. I love her idea of "I can" self-talk and how she quite honestly tells you to fight it. It's a good book that reminds you of Go'd promises over and over again.

Is it wrong to say she’s my favorite motivational speaker when she’s clearly a preacher? Her books are perfect for a quick pick-me-up. Whenever I need to read something light and uplighting, I turn to Joyce Meyer’s most recent book. She never fails to shed light on some less luminous parts of my psyche at the moment.

I enjoyed it. It was exactly what I needed.
