Can’t Walk Away is book one in the brand new series, Nashville Dreams, by Sandy James. I am such a fan of Sandy’s writing and have been so excited about this upcoming series. First, let’s just gaze at this cover. That alone was incentive to read this book. And I assure you that this book most certainly did live up to it’s cover. It was everything I hoped it would be and more.

can't walk away sandy james

Brad Maxwell used to be Nashville’s number one songwriter The one all the famous singers clamored for. He was called The Hitman. But then tragedy and betrayal took over his life. So he turned to alcohol and women to dull the pain. And the music stopped coming into his head. He was no longer The Hitman. So, he and his two best friends, Ethan and Russ, opened up a new bar together, Words & Music. The bar was wildly successful and became a launching platform for up and coming country singers. And that is how Brad first laid eyes on Savannah Wolf, on open mic night. She had the face and the voice of an angel. As soon as she started singing, something shifted inside of him and his head instantly filled with notes and lyrics.

writing music

Savannah Wolf was a waitress at Words & Music. About six years ago, Savannah tried to start her singing career. But due to a thieving manager, she lost everything and was left with nothing but a pregnancy. She loved her little girl, Caroline, with everything she was. Savannah feels like now is the time to try again. It’s her time. She’s been preparing and she’s going to take the stage at Words & Music on open mic night. Little did she know that this is the night that would change her life forever.

Somehow Savannah had never met Brad. She mostly worked the day shift and he worked at night. But when Brad saw her on that stage, his entire world shifted and she became his focus. He had been out of the business for a long time now. But he still knew how it all worked. He could help Savannah to become a star. He’d do anything for her.

“Brad hadn’t drawn close to her life, he’d plowed right into it - almost like he’d always been a part of it.”

Brad and Savannah’s relationship quickly escalates. Attraction soon becomes more. Savannah, though, is a mommy. What will Brad do when he learns of her daughter?

kiss

“Her whole life she’d wished for the kind of passion she felt whenever they kissed.”

Along with success comes loss of privacy, the paparazzi. In their need to protect each other, they end up pushing each other away. Neither of them trust easily, all of the feelings they are experiencing are so new to the both of them. The old saying, though, proves to be true, here. That true love will find a way. Will these two trust in each other and their love to get them through it all?

singing

This was such a fabulous book. I could just feel the magic between these two, especially when Savannah sang. And Savannah’s little daughter, Caroline, was just adorable. For me, this book was perfect. I am just in love with it. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, Can’t Let Her Go, which will be Ethan’s story.

I'm walking away (heh) from this one really early. Some of it is that they both have the same background of done-wrong by love with a Nashville-is-nasty chaser. So it feels a little heavy. But most of it is just that my mood shifted crosswise to this story in a hard way. Which is why I'm dnfing without a rating as it really isn't the story's fault. Sadly, I think it is a hard-enough mood cross that I doubt I'll be able to pick it up later.

An interesting story, though fairly cliché, but I enjoyed reading, and I know that I will return to this author again.

Can't Walk Away is the first book in the new series Nashville Dreams by Sandy James, a new-to-me author.  Set in Nashville, the city that "music calls home" and the "songwriting capital of the world," there's plenty of inspiration for entertaining and fun-to-read storylines for these characters, along with the potential to be real crowd pleasers.

The author writes this story in dual third person perspectives – not always my favorite – but, in this case, it really worked for me.  I think the feelings and opinions of both Brad and Savannah came shining through in an objective and even distribution.

Words & Music is one of Nashville's most popular and top-rated hotspots where food and live music are served up every day and night of the week, and owned by three friends, Brad Maxwell, Ethan Walker and Russ Green.  It is here that Savannah Wolf waits tables and sings.  Along with our main characters, there's a nice complement of secondary cast from Randy, the stage manager to Savannah's somewhat overprotective parents, Paul and Mary Wolf, and not to be overlooked, a girl's best friend and sidekick, Joslynn, who is most definitely opinionated.

Music soothes the soul -- at least that’s how the saying goes.  And Brad “Hitman” Maxwell and his Songbird, Savannah Wolf, most definitely need a special brand of soothing. Both have come out of bad relationships bruised and battered.  Lots of trust issues involved as they begin a new relationship.  Plus, she’s a single mom with a five-year old daughter, Caroline, who is adorable.  You'll tumble head over heels for Brad as you watch him bond with sweet little Caroline.  I always enjoy the added entertainment and reality that a child brings into the mix.

Together Brad and Savannah make sweet music on and off the stage.  The personal feelings begin to grow, and soon there's more to their relationship than the music.  There are, of course, the ups and downs of a new relationship which they handled admirably.  Old wounds certainly came into play on both sides of the fence.  The tension set in and things began to unravel with issues of trust and sharing major decisions concerning career choices.  As always, a little more communication would have been a great benefit.  Brad is somewhat of a control freak.  And at first, you might wonder if his new Songbird can hold her own -- but don't spend too much time stewing.  Savannah has game.  As always, you need a little angst and second guessing to keep things interesting.  Sandy James handles this part of their relationship well without going overboard.

Lest you worry, there’s plenty of hot chemistry and enough hot steamy scenes with breathless entwined bodies to meet the demands of most readers.  But the sex is not the heart of this story. The author did an amazing story building the relationship, with realism and at a believable pace – although it was instant lust for Brad when he heard Savannah sing the first time.

Nashville is the place where dreams are supposed to come true, but sometimes those dreams turn into nightmares.  Savannah woke to her worst nightmare.  The dark side of fame rained down on both her and Brad when the media got involved, and along with it came the bad guy, who is also Savannah's ex-boyfriend/manager and most importantly, the sperm donor of her child.  Michael Hart has never been a father -- heck he's never even laid eyes on his daughter -- much less helped to support her.  And let's make it very clear, the closest this man has ever come to a "heart" is his last name and he didn't even get that right.  He's one of those villains you'll love to hate.

The wrap-up was nicely handled and a charming Epilogue produced a glowing happily-ever-after.

Next up January 16, 2018, the son of Nashville royalty, Ethan Walker, will have his story told in Can't Let Her Go.  Chelsea Harris, a red-headed recording star, has her eyes on him for a duet as their main event.  Following on April 10, 2018, Russ Green’s book, Can’t Fight the Feeling, will be released.  (I'm wondering if Savannah's best friend Joslynn might be The One for Russ.)  I am looking forward to both these releases to conclude what has started out as a strong and very enticing trip to Nashville.

Can’t Walk Away by Sandy James is a sweet sentimental second chance love story that brings forth the union of two strangers. They say music is the universal language and in this story James introduces readers to Brad and Savannah who are brought together by music. One is a hitman songwriter and one is a single mother with a great voice. Both are struggling with a tormented past, and yet their passion of music rekindled something that spoke deep volumes that caused two souls to find healing, love, and a risk to take a second chance. So if you are looking for a sweet, and yet heartfelt love story then this book is definitely for you.

Unexpected. Sweet. Sexy. Down Right Heartwarming. Those are the words that I’d choose to describe Can’t Walk Away.

Can’t Walk Away follows the story of Brad and Savannah. Once upon a time, Brad was one of Nashville’s biggest stars. That was until life threw him an unexpected curve ball, taking all if his passion with him. Now instead of writing and singing music, he finds himself tending bar, trying to escape the pain of the past. All is going the way that Brad has planned…that is until Brad meets Savannah…Savannah always dreamed of singing for a crowd, but being a single mom has kept that one dream out of her reach. So, when Brad offers Savannah her golden opportunity, she can’t help but jump at the chance. The only problem, her scorching hot chemistry with Brad. She tells herself not to fall for him, but that might just prove to be easier said than done….

Overall, I thought Can’t Walk Away was a quick and easy read. I thought the characters were likable and couldn’t wait to get into their story. I loved the pull between Brad and Savannah. Brad had the worst reputation, but you could tell that there was more to this bad boy than meets the eye, he’s just got to open his heart and mind to it. I liked that Brad took things slow with Savannah. Yes, their pull was undeniable, but I enjoyed seeing these two get to know one another and ease their way into something more.

Can’t Walk Away was unexpected in the best way. This story is well written and is one that you can easily finish in just one sitting. I thought this story had just the right mix of sweet and sexy with a little drama along the way. This is my first book by this author, and I look forward to checking more of her books in the future.

Loved. I was mad at Russ and Eric for their berating Brad and thinking he could not change his ways but he proved them wrong with his feelings and actions towards Savannah.

Brad just grabs you from the beginning. what he went through and how he tried to stop the pain is just so heartbreaking. He is a good guy. He cares and is kind. He gets lost in his head though when a song comes to him and tends to forget everything. Watching him turn down his personality so that he can show Savannah he trusts and respects her was wonderful to see. He wanted to show her he understood her past but sometimes didn’t hear what she was saying about her future. Glad Greg helped there.

Savannah was smart, sassy and fun. She had so much on her shoulders and a past that had her wary of people in particular men. Her dream is to just be a headliner at someplace like Words and Music and when Brad hears her he knows immediately that she is special. He also gets words in his mind again and begins to write songs once more. Sometimes he pushes too far with Savannah but it is with good intentions.

As they grow closer and work on building a strong relationship there are bumps in the road. What is great is they talk them out. He is very protective of her and the love you feel from him is wonderful to see after his ex and what she did.

when things get to where Savannah gets scared she does let her fears take over and we see Brad help her and bring her back down. Together they are strong and she has support other than her parents to help her now. She sees this and becomes stronger and more confident.

A wonderful romance with characters who learn how to trust one another and be honest with each other. Who inspire the other and respect one another. A story with depth and emotion but also a happy ending that has your heart melt after all that these two go through.

2.5 "I almost walk away" stars.

A single mom.
A cute little girl.
A possessive hero.
And music.

So why I didn't like it? Maybe I just wasn't in the right mind frame right now... or the fact that the red bitch is due any day and she ruins my life every month, but I can't for the life of me get into this one.

Slow romance or insta-love. I read them all. But I need to feel something. I'm the type of reader that needs that, to feel the bond between the characters. To bond with them. Unfortunately, this time around, I just couldn't feel a thing.

The writing style and the main characters were ok (bond or not), but it was the supporting characters the ones that kept me hooked till the end.

So I guess what I'm getting at is:
I read this book.
It wasn't for me.
However, I will be reading the next one. Because you know, the second characters.

Hope no one hates me for this. Till the next book!

REVIEW: 3.5 stars-- CAN’T WALK AWAY is the first installment in Sandy James’ contemporary, adult NASHVILLE DREAMS romance series focusing on three friends who own and operate Words and Music-a bar in Nashville, Tennessee: Brad Maxwell, Ethan Walker and Russell Green. This is songwriter Brad ‘Hitman’ Maxwell, and waitress/singer Savannah Wolf’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Brad and Savannah) CAN’T WALK AWAY focuses on the building relationship between Brad Maxwell and Savannah Wolf. Savannah is a twenty-six year old single mother; a singer whose earlier musical career was jettisoned by her former manager, boyfriend, the father of her five year old daughter Caroline, and the man who has destroyed our heroine’s trust with other men Michael Hart. Brad Maxwell, is a struggling song writer, a once popular and chart topping writer who lost his muse when the woman he once loved and lost betrayed his trust and the bonds of their marriage. Hearing Savannah Wolf sing was like a beacon to Brad Maxwell- the call of a long, lost urge to pick up a pen and begin writing anew. What ensues is the quick building love between Brad and Savannah, and the potential fall out when issues of trust make for too many hurdles between our story line couple.

Brad Maxwell’s attraction to Savannah is one of insta-lust/love. He is determined to make Savannah a star but our heroine wants only to earn enough money to buy a house and pay the bills. As Savannah’s star begins to rise, her mounting fame and the paparazzi begin to build walls between our leading couple.

The relationship between Savannah and Brad begins as a business arrangement. Brad makes Savannah the headliner at Words and Music but our heroine struggles with the notoriety as her popularity begins to soar. Brad and Savannah both have issues of trust, and in this, the little secrets and bumps in the road are blown out of proportion throughout the story; they both continue to compare one another to their previous relationship disasters. I struggled with their exaggerated reactions to the ‘small things’, as well as a perceived lack of chemistry between our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Brad’s friends and business partners- musician Ethan Walker, and Russell Green; Savannah’s over-protective parents Paul and Mary Wolf, and Savannah’s daughter Caroline, as well as Words and Music stage manager Randy. The requisite evil comes in the guise of Savannah’s ex-manager and boyfriend Michael Hart. I am looking forward to Ethan and Russell’s story line.

CAN’T WALK AWAY is a story of second chances, of sorts, for two people who loved and lost, and suffered the humiliation of betrayal in return. The premise is engaging and enjoyable; the romance is seductive; the characters struggled with issues of trust. CAN’T WALK AWAY is a charming and pleasant story line.

When you are drawn to a title for no reason...that's how I approached Can't Walk Away. I can't say it was because it's based within the centre of country music roots because I don't even like the genre. However, the 'je ne sais quoi' worked it's magic for me.

Brad 'Hitman' Maxwell may still be surrounded by the music that made his fortune but nowadays he's happier working the bar and managing Words and Music. When a new talent mesmerises him during the bar's Indie talent night, it not only reawakens his desire to write songs but to rethink his current life choices especially ones close to his heart.

Savannah Wolf is happy waiting on tables at Words and Music even though her first love is singing. Despite an unsuccessful try at getting a break in the music scene years earlier, she hopes to try again so that she can build a better life for herself and daughter. When she impresses her bosses during an indie talent night, she's offered a contract she can't refuse. However, the opportunity is a catalyst for far more than just a regular singing gig.

Brad and Savannah are perfect for each other due to their mutual love of country music. Both have experienced the negative sides of the business yet that doesn't help either of them to understand the issues each is struggling with because the lines of communication between the two get crossed repeatedly. You can feel the frustrations and despair when things are off kilter as much as when all is right within their world.

The author kept my attention always as she enlightens her readers with the country music scene in Nashville and wraps an enticing romance within it. The protagonists are adorable together as their attraction slowly moves up a notch. The secondary characters, mainly Brad's partners will hopefully be featured in their own books as they are portrayed as men who have a fascinating story to tell.

Can't Walk Away is the second book I've read by Sandy James and look forward to reading more in this series and catching up with her back list.

Can’t Walk Away by Sandy James is a book about taking second chances and a love of music. I am a sucker for anything that has to do with music. Books featuring a singer or a band are ones that I love. This one was no exception. It was a great story about two people that have been through a lot. I laughed and I cried, and I fell in love with the supporting characters. They were amazing and really added to the story.

Brad “The Hitman” Maxwell used to be a star in the music industry. He wrote a lot of the big country hits, hence his nickname, The Hitman. When his wife leaves him, he finds out that she had never loved him and was just using him to get to the top. This devastating news causes him to stop writing music. He, along with some friends, open up a bar called Words & Music, where they showcase live bands and singers. This is his only connection to the music he used to love and the bar has become the center of his life.

Savanna Wolf a singer and a single mother to a little girl. She was burned by her manager/partner and left the music industry to put her life back together. She is working as a server at Words & Music and one day she decides to get up on stage again. Music is her passion and trying her luck won’t hurt. So she sings on stage at the bar. When Brad hears Savanna sing it sparks something in him and he ends up writing a song for her. What follows is explosive attraction and a butting of heads. Brad and Savanna are both stubborn and want things their own way but their chemistry is undeniable.

This quick read is equal parts happy and sad. You see the emerging love between two people that have been hurt before. You experience their journey of learning how to love again and move on in life. This was my first book of this author and I know it will not be the last. Especially if there is a story regarding some certain characters of this book. Four stars read!!

This book will melt your heart, make you cry, and make you laugh all at the same time. Sandy James did an exceptional job writing this story.

Brad "The Hitman" Maxwell was out of the limelight of writing country music; until he heard Savannah Wolf sing at his bar Word & Music's I loved how Brad didn't recognize Savannah at first when she was on stage for indie night at the bar. As soon as he heard her sing he was inspired to write again. I adored how Brad had written the song for her and that Savannah was shocked he would do that. They work together on the song and try to fight their feelings for each other till they just can't anymore.

This is a standalone book; I will be keeping my fingers crossed that there is more to come. It was the first book I read by Sandy James and it definitely won't be the last.

Brad "Hitman" Maxwell had it all... a promising music career, the fame all that head to Nashville hope to find, and then in an blink of an eye it was gone. Now he has settled for a much more subdued lifestyle, spending his nights behind the bar slinging drinks, instead of being on the stage entertaining the crowd. It's not exactly the life he thought he wind up having, but it is what is, and he is doing his best to embrace it... but then a beautiful woman with the voice of an angel wanders into his world and things suddenly start to look up!

Savannah Wolf has dreamed of being a star in Nashville since she was a little girl, but life didn't go quite like she planned all those years ago. Now she is more concerned with providing her daughter with the best life possible, and it's admittedly been tough handling it all on her own, but she cherishes every moment of it. Then an opportunity of a lifetime comes along when she is offered an opportunity to stand on the stage at Words & Music bar and sing to it's patrons. She knows it's going to be tough juggling everything, but she really wants to give it a try... finally deciding it's now or never!

Can't Walk Away is an endearing story that is sure to tug on the hearts of readers and leave them beaming! This first time read was quite an enjoyable one for me, it gave me the feels, made my heart happy, and had me feeling the the heat more than a few times!! I always love stories centered around single parents, the innocence that comes through, seeing families being formed, and them finding a happily ever after they deserve... and I have to say this one held it's own amongst my list of favorites. I think it is safe to say that Ms. James new Nashville Dreams series is going to be a hit with readers, it definitely has me singing her praises!! Highly recommend!!

Savannah can be quite distracting to Brad, “you keep that up,” he said with a growl in his voice, “I’m gonna drive us right off the road.” Brad always wants to do right by his woman, and the man has a big stubborn side, “I’m going, Savannah. I’ll stay out of the meeting and sit in the lobby like a good boy. But I’m going. And that’s the end of the discussion.” I enjoyed this book, I loved the chemisrry between Brad and Savannah.

5 COUNTRY stars for Hitman and Songbird’ story! Let the magic of the music seduce your soul.

Dear Lord! This book made me remember why I love reading. Can’t Walk Away by Sandy James is so captivating. From the first pages I was deeply attached to the story. The author delivers a wonderful contemporary romance. The plot is beautifully addictive and refreshing. I must say that the author did a goodly and amazing job. Books like this shall be written more often.

The main characters are well developed. The heroine has some trust issues but deep inside her lies a warrior lady. She has dreams like any other women. Singing is her life as is her little daughter. Savannah is so talented. Will she be able to handle both of her worlds: being a single mom and becoming a country singer? She knows what she wants. There will be a time when she will stop being a scared kitten to become a lioness ready to fight for her baby, to fight for her broken dreams and to follow her heart.

Not only Savannah has trust issues, Brad Maxwell has them too. His past force him to stop writing songs until he meets Savannah, his muse, his songbird. He has an air of bad boy but he is a good one. At first I tough he didn’t know what he really wants but as the story goes on he develops feelings that were unfamiliar for him. But let be honest who doesn’t like a guy who is capable to express his feelings through songs? Max is a poet and his heart is as big as the sun and more. He is loyal and possessive.

“You’re the one I thought I’d never find. What do I have to do to make you mine.”

The chemistry between Savannah and Brad is intense. They tried to control the high attraction for their sakes but as soon as they touch each other, they lose it all. He is her boss. She works for him. Her voice will inspire him to star writing again. A poet in the shadows has finally seen the light. Falling will not be easy for them to handle because both have too much to lose, too much to work on. However their hearts will lead the way.

Savannah and Brad are simply perfect for each other. They have a sweet and tremendous love. Who wants a knight in shining armour when you can have a sexy poet who can seduce you with words? Brad is the kind of man who falls in love once and stays loyal to you. But not everything is sweet and pink. They will make some mistakes but together will work out. They will learn to trust and to love freely, to listen and to ask before doing anything. I enjoy the evolution of them as a couple. I predict they will share a delicious and steamy love.

This is the first time I read something from Sandy James. She is new to me. Her writing was tidy and nifty: a pretty combination for a good book. I do really need to read more about these wonderful characters. Maybe sweet Ethan and protective Russ deserve their own book too. Prepare yourself for a warm and intoxicating reading. Let Hitman seduce you with his words. Let the magic of the music entice your senses. Nashville Dreams Series promise to be one of the best series I’ve read.

“The Hitman was back, and his new songbird clearly belonged to him.”

Can't Walk Away immersed me in the sounds of Nashville and left me wanting more.  Savannah goes from waitress to  successful country singer and some of the fame and problems that go along with it attach to her.  Brad, a former songwriter called The Hitman, doesn't recognize her when she plays at an Indie night where he's the manager and owner of the restaurant/bar with two of his friends and where Savannah waitresses.  When they "meet" sparks fly but lack of communicating doesn't have them on the same page at all.  There is definite chemistry but will Savannah who's a single mom be able to tame playboy Brad and does he want to be?

Brad seems to measure all women against his deceased ex-wife and it's not all good.  He has a reputation as a womanizer that dogs him and hasn't written a song in several years but is hoping that things turn around when he finds himself attracted to Savannah.  Watching their one step forward and two step back approach was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.  Her daughter Caroline was a whirlwind and had me getting tired just reading about her abundance of energy.  It was interesting that she played such a large part in the story.  Brad's friends help ground him and I can't wait to read more about both Ethan and Russ.  There are family and friends, exes, secrets, hurt, anger, tears, fear, happiness, laughter, amazement, parties, agents, lawyers, lots of loving, romance and love.  Savannah's parents are a great support to her and she and her best friend, Jos, have a nice relationship.  Savannah's ex leaves a lot to be desired.

The characters are multifaceted and I had to dig a little to really know them. The story is fast paced and flows nicely but sometimes jumped ahead that I needed to look back to make sure my Nook hadn't skipped a page.  There is good closure and the epilogue was a nice touch.  I look forward to reading the next two books in the trilogy and hope I don't have to wait too long.

It's been a while since I've read a book by James.  She's an author whose books I've always enjoyed reading.

Can't Walk Away is a really good read. At first, the story is slow and I was unsure of how I would like it. By chapter 2 or 3, the story picks up. The settings are written well and characters are easy to enjoy.

Savannah Wolf is an independent and loving mother. She's very practical in her goals. She wants to provide for her daughter and pay back her parents. Savannah once had the dreams of being a rising star in country music. That went away after a massive betrayal from her manager. I admire Savannah for her bravery on taking a chance to sing again.

Brad Maxwell was a well known song writer in country music. Many of the songs he wrote were hits. After finding out a massive secret that his late wife kept from him, Brad gave up writing music. After hearing Savannah sing at Words & Music, the music starts flowing through his mind again.

There is an instant spark between the two main characters. Brad is willing and wanting to see where the connection with Savannah goes. Savannah is more cautious with taking any chances. She has her daughter to think about. Not only does their relationship start moving fast, so does Savannah's rising fame. It's a lot to take in at once. Communication can help Brad and Savannah make it through the craziness.

My favorite parts of the story were where Brad and Savannah's daughter are interacting with each other. It is adorable to see their connection.

Overall, the story is written well and I truly hope Ethan and Russ (Brad's friends) get their own stories.

I received this book as an Advance Readers Copy. All opinions are my own.

when songwriter brad "hitman" maxwell first notices savannah wolf in can't walk away he's so impressed by her talent that he feels compelled to write his first song in years. from the get-go he knows savannah will be a star, even though she's already had one run at stardom and wants nothing to do with the celebrity lifestyle.

working with brad is a dream come true, but she struggles to manage the impact her increased profile has on her, on her family, and on her life. and the more closely she works with brad the harder it is to deny that she is incredibly attracted to him. and knowing that she inspires him to write music is just as heady.

brad and savannah fall into a relationship pretty quickly, even if they take pains not to define it. both of them have been burned by relationships past and have to work hard not to let the lessons they've learned close them off to something real and true.

these two fall hard and fast for each other, but at the same time their relationship really has time to deepen and grow on the page. the timeline isn't super compressed so you really have a chance to know them as a couple before things get complicated. and even then, these two work through their conflicts beautifully and you never doubt their love for one another. which is just the kind of romance i love.

Both Brad and Savannah have super trust issues, which you can imagine what that means. Yep, just a few bumps that end up being a bigger deal than maybe they should have been. Part of their problem is that they have a pretty hard time ignoring their attraction to each other so they are moving pretty fast. Leading to lots of assumptions and jumping to conclusions that is only exacerbated by their trouble with trusting each other.

Granted both of them have their reasons. Brad’s marriage wasn’t what he thought it was and when he finds out it changes a lot about how he sees the world. It also damaged his confidence and he tried to get it back with women … lots of women. And since Savannah’s last relationship was with a scoundrel who took off with all of her money and left her alone, she’s not exactly feeling all that sure of herself either.

The nice thing though is that James does a great job of having Savannah stand up for herself. She knows what she wants and she’s not willing to back down. She just has to make sure that Brad actually hears her, which isn’t always the easiest of things. He’s not completely clueless though and does figure things out eventually :)

Make sure that you are ready for a lot of ups and downs, because things are not easy for these two. But I found the ride differently worth the bumps.

Second chances, new beginnings and finding a shining light. Can’t Walk Away will have you believing anything is possible with the right person.

Singing and her little girl is what makes Savannah Wolf happy. With being burned in the past. She doesn’t want a manager to help with her career. With an ex who bleed her dry, she doesn’t have much faith in the industry and or men. But she had a strong attraction led her one of her bosses, Brad Maxwell. Brad has worked in the industry. He had a dry spell in creating music but he found his muse in Savannah. When he heard her sing, the creative juices flowed. And that’s not the only thing that flowed. Savannah and Brad created magic together. Their bond was strong. He felt so much with her that he thought that was dead. They were stronger together. A love that became stronger each day.

When Savannah’s career started to create attention, a man who she thought was long gone, saw his pay day. But Brad wouldn’t allow that. He loved Savannah and nothing would stop him to make sure she was on top.

A disillusioned man meets his salvation! Strong characters with an interesting plot take us on the ride of taking second chances even though you still might carry the bruised heart from your last attempt at love! I enjoyed it and look forward to more in the series.

Once the biggest songwriter in Nashville, Brad "Hitman" Maxwell lost his creative energy amid loss and betrayal in his personal life. Now he enjoys himself at the honky tonk he runs and owns with a couple of friends. Words & Music is a great place to catch a glimpse of young talent on their way up in the music scene, and when she takes the stage and blows him away he starts to feel that old spark again!

Savannah Wolf had her chance to be a star and blew it by trusting the wrong people. Now she'd be happy just getting to do what she loves enough to make ends meet and have a happy life with her young daughter. When a friend convinces her to take a turn at open mike, she never expects it to lead to a job offer to be the opening act at Words & Music! She's on top of the world excited ... but she can't take the chance of acting on the attraction flaring between her and the boss ... can she?

Brad Morgan used to be called “Hitman” for the hit songs he wrote. Now he owns a club with two of his friends. One night during open mic he is blown away by the voice of Savannah Wolf, who used to dream of being a big country music star, but now just wants to sing. Brad does not even recognize her as one of the waitress that work for them and goes to the office and begins to write. He is writing for the first time since his wife died and after her death he found out some things about her he did not like. When Savannah sings his song the next day she realizes that it is a beautiful song but tells him she does not want to record it, or wants a manager, agent etc. He does not listen and continues to push her and push the limit. He continues to write and she singe, but really that is all she wants to do because she has a child and she does not want a big career like she used to dream about. That is explained in the story. The more you go along the more you see she is pulling away because he continues to push too much. Will he push her away or can she get the man she loves to listen and slow down. A wonderful story. Sandy James is a new author to me and I really don’t know why, after reading Can’t Walk Away I certainly will be checking her other books out.
Brad “Hitman” Maxwell had it all, he was a successful songwriter, he is rich and hot but a heartbreaking loss and a shocking betrayal has left him pouring beers at Words & Music instead of writing songs. That’s all about to change when Savannah Wolf takes to the stage, will this unknown girl become Hitman’s muse, will he start writing for her and will she be able to stop herself falling for her boss.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved the characters and I loved the storyline, instant attraction between two people not looking for love, the words in this book flowed pretty much like a song would flow, it was an easy read that hooked me from the first chapter, it was a love story but it felt like a journey.
I need to read more by this author so I’m off to check her other books out.

All Savannah wanted was one more chance at singing. She was not looking for fame or love, all she wanted was a decent job singing so she could make enough money to support her family. Little did she know, once Brad "Hitman" Maxwell heard her sing her life would never be the same.

Like an old country song you hold dear, this story will tug at your heart. There is despair, the need to be loved, the heartbreak of having lived through the pain of rejection and loss, but more, there is triumph and dreams fulfilled.

I feel like I have discovered a gem! This author is now a favorite and I will be looking forward to reading more stories by her.

Jodie's Review

This is the perfect book about love and second chances. It’s a book that makes you believe in love again and if you are a music lover it gives you everything and more.

Brad Maxwell is a hit song writer in the country music industry however with the lost of his wife and the reality of the marriage Brad loses what made him the “The Hitman” . He, however, still stays connected to the music scene thru his bar he has with his friends. This is also where he is introduced to Savanna Wolf. Savanna is a server at the bar who takes the stage and instantly sparks the flame that has been out inside Brad. The minute these two start working together their chemistry is undeniable and their story takes off. For me this was almost too quick of read and there is absolutely insta love even considering both of their backgrounds, which normally would turn me off but with her being Brad’s muse it works. My only true issue with this story was her bitter ex who I can only explain as beyond asshole even knowing the back story. Bottom line he still made me say really?! What I adored about this story was the use of secondary characters and how easy they were to connect to. I loved them almost as much as Savanna and Brad. In fact, I am really hoping for two other stories especially Ethan who completely stole my heart. Overall if you are looking for a sweet, easy to fall, second chance love story this is the book I would recommend!!

I am a big fan of books with music in them and this one was rather different from others I have read before. This is also the first book I have read from this author
I enjoyed it, really liked the characters and wanted to know so much more. Its a rather quick read but packs a punch. There was a whole bunch of drama, some sad times but some really uplifting moments too. I would read more from this author and I hope there is more to come after this book.
