Skye ran away from a life of wealth to living on the street. But she also ran away from an abusive home, both mentally and physically. Her parents used her, and treated her like dirt. Her father gave her to his friends to use as they wish, he beat her to keep her quiet, all the while her mom just watched. Preston was the only one Skye could really trust. But she never told him about the abuse. When he leaves, she had no choice but to go.
Five years later, she has no choice but to face her skeletons. BUt this time she is going to have Preston help her. After another beating by her father, Preston saves her and brings her home. It takes time for Skye to trust Preston, but she eventually tells him everything. Their relationship also grows, and so does the information they learn about each other.
Preston brings Skye into his Dom/Sub lifestyle. He brings out her naturally tendency to being a submissive at home, and at the club.
As much as I liked this book, I felt like I was left with too many questions. She has trust issues, but trusts him? He left her, but we don’t know why? Preston goes from rags to riches, but how? And how does no one see the physical abuse? I know book two will answer many of these questions, but I felt like Skye should have demanded more answers.
I was recommend Heather Shere by another author and I'm so glad that I took that advice.
Book 2 of Preston and Skye's love story is absolutely is amazing. I started to read and it was 5 years later and I'm like WTF!
How could she have been gone that long? Had they found other people? I was so scared to find out what happened in that time. I didn't want my heart broken, I wanted what Preston and Skye wanted in book one. Each other and live a happy life together. As I turned the page so much had changed, Preston was the wealthy and powerful. Our girl, Skye, his Detka hit rock bottom, she lived on the street and without Preston by her side she had to do what she had to.
This story takes you on journey and you get all them feels. 5 years is a long time to be apart from the person you but when it's true like Preston and Skye's time means nothing.
This story made me ugly cry, I felt things I've never felt before and when this story was over. I felt like I had been sucker punched right in the gut. I couldn't breathe and until book 3 us out I'm an on life support and it's HEATHER SHERE'S fault. Every day you wait to release book 3 is another day I slowly die. So woman unless you want to kill me you best be typing quick fast. I don't care what you have to do to get it done....JUST GET IT DONE!!
I fell in love with Skye and Preston in Diamond Hart and excitedly dove into Desert Skye. Heather has picked up their story five years later. Life has not been kind to Skye. Leaving her abusive family after finding out that Preston was gone. Unbeknownst to her, his departure was crafted at the hands of her dad in exchange for a favor. Confused and hurt she ran. Running from the atrocities of home now that Preston was gone.
Skye headed to Hollywood, seeking a new life as a musician. Gone is the girl who has all the material things she could want and instead is one holding on by a thread. Scrapping together whatever she can to survive and living from soup kitchen to soup kitchen. Life had not been kind to Skye but she gladly left behind the abuse of her dad and the despicable conditions she lived under.
Preston’s life has also changed during the five years since he last saw Skye too. Gone is the poor boy from the trailer park. During this time he has amassed his own success and wealth. He’s now has the finer things in life and wears it well. Despite his wealth and success the one thing that has not changed over this time is his love for Skye….and the lengths he will go to find his Detka. Undoubtedly at the lowest point in Skye’s life, contemplating and possibly succumbing to the lowest point ever, she has a choice to survive. Hungry and with no place to go will she lose her last bit of dignity and give in to the proverbial carrot dangled by a local pimp?
Whether it was Karma, fate, luck or something else, Preston reappears in Skye’s world just in time to save her. As defiant and stubborn as ever she refuses his help….the pain of him taking off as fresh as the day as he left. Running off again, she will find herself once again face to face with him. Tired, hungry and desperately in need of sleep she capitulates.
Skye sees in Preston a confident, dominating man in place of the boy she knew before. Determined to not give him a chance to shatter her heart again the walls go up around her heart but can she deny she still loves him. Taking Skye back to the desert hidden truths will be revealed and their emotional journey continues. BDSM will be introduced into their story.
Can Preston break the walls that guard his Detka’s heart? Will Skye embrace a dominate Preston? I seriously can't wait for more of Preston and Skye soon!
Preston and Skye are back in this next installment of The Desert Rats series. We pick up 5 years after the end of Diamond Hart and although you don't know what's happened in that time, what you do know is how much Skye and Preston have changed.
Preston, by God has he changed. Gone is the poor trailer trash desert rat from years before and in his place is a HOT, rich and powerful man who is hell bent on making Skye his again....if he can only just find her.
Skye isn't the same girl she was when Preston left five years before. She's hard headed, stubborn and determined to protect her heart from the person she was in love with growing up....that is until he comes waltzing back into her life.
Now, they must learn the person they have become and embrace them. They must learn to trust and to be open with each other, or it could be over before it really began.
Heather Shere!!!!!!!!!! I curse you woman. I curse you to hell and back for the way you ended this book!!!!!! How dare you leave it like that and not tell me what happens next. How can you do this to me??!!!??
My mind had been in overdrive trying to come up with different outcomes....me going back to bed at 4am?? Yeah that didn't happen. So thank you :-)
You best get your arse into gear and start writing woman, I will nag you until I get this next installment. This is your warning. And I hope you take my suggestion for that twat faced bastard and make it happen. I really hate that motherfuckin piece of shit!!!
I love it how you invoke such emotions from me when it comes to your writing. When you can do that, you know you have an amazing book on your hands. So bravo woman, bravo!!!!
Now chop chop, the next book isn't going to write itself ;-)
I can assure you I'm not the only one who's going to be nagging you.
Wow, another great read in this series. You could feel the pain and loss that Preston and Skye feel in this book. This book takes place 5 years after the first one and we see the results from the choice that Preston made in the last book.
Skye has been living on the streets in Hollywood and has lost everything. She is about to make a choice she never wanted to make but she is desperate and feels like she has no choice. Just when she is about to do just that a blast from the past swoops in to save her, Preston. He isn't the same boy that left her and she is not sure what to think. He broke her heart when he abandoned her 5 years ago and neither is she. She is angry and broken. He was her home and then he was gone. Now is wants to help her but she isn't so sure if she should let him.
Preston has been looking for Skye and has finally found her. He is no longer the desert rat that she once knew. When he left it changed him and not all for the better. He now has all the money he needs to take care of his mom and Skye but without her his life is empty. Now that he has found her he needs to get her to forgive him for leaving and to trust him again. He still loves her and she is his one and only, the problem is convincing her of it.
Will Skye forgive Preston? Will they open up and tell each other their secrets? What happens when she tells him everything but he doesn't? Will he lose her forever once she learns all his secrets?
I CANNOT wait until the next book!!! I am seriously needing to know what happens next. Don't miss out on this series.
A big shout out to Heather for Desert Skye. I loved the first book in the series, Diamond Hart, but Heather definitely took it up a notch with this one. I found the writing to be so much better and the story had more depth. The length was perfect too- I know Heather debated splitting it up into 2 novellas but I think she made the right decision in making this one book.
We met Preston and Skye in Diamond Hart. They were separated and it is now 5 years later. I don’t want to give things away but I will say this- their story isn’t always pretty, that’s for sure. But it’s sweet. And it will have you all over place emotionally.
I loved Preston. He was so hot and domineering, yet gentle and compassionate. We don’t find out all the details of what he went through over the 5 years he was apart from Skye. I was really curious what made him become a Dom in the first place, but it seems we may find out in the next book. Skye was sassy and snarky, yet underneath the tough exterior she is someone who has been hurt.
Watching their relationship grow in both books from friends to more has been great. I loved the alternating point of view between Preston and Skye. There are some secondary characters too- hopefully we see them again in the next book and can learn more about them.
The ending- what a way to leave us hanging. Seriously. Heather needs to get us book 3 ASAP! Get writing Heather!! Please!
Preston and Skye are back for the continuation of their journey. This time we fine Skye barely surviving on the streets and Preston extremely successful in his business. Their feelings for each other have never diminished but trust between the two is broken and secrets need to unravel before they can move forward together.
This was, at times, an emotional read as the extent of Skye's suffering at the hands of her father is revealed. These are two people who are meant to be together but only if they can overcome their pasts and be completely honest with each other.
As I got stuck into this read, I felt my connection with the characters growing. The heat level went up a few notches in this instalment as the world of BDSM is introduced to Skye.
I was so worried when I begun reading this second book in the Desert Rat series. It had been 5 year since Preston left Skye, since Skye ran away and I could only imagine the damage what had been done.
As the roles reverse and Preston is living the good life riches and all Skye is living on the streets doing what she can to survive another day. Lady Luck is on their side as Preston stumbles upon Skye in trouble and the pair are reunited will things ever be ok for them? They each have secrets they don't want to share about their pasts. Secrets that could ruin their relationship, their friendship. This second book is full with twists and turns and will leave you biting your nails wanting more.
The ending will devastate you and leave you wanting the next book in the series as quickly as possible. Heather Shere definitely knows how to leave you wanting to read more.
