In 2002 K'wan hit the scene with his debut novel Gangsta, under Triple Crown Publications. It was the first novel released by the budding house and would eventually become the building block for what is now a multimillion dollar company. What started as a therapeutic release went on to become a part of urban-lit history and an Essence bestseller, as well as drawing rave reviews overseas. After penning his second novel, Road Dawgz (2003), K'wan drew the attention of St. Martins press. The literary powerhouse quickly signed K'wan to a multi-book deal, the first of which being Street Dreams (2004). In 2008 he received the Black Author of the year award from Black Press Radio for the novella Blow. Since his insertion into the publishing world K'wan has been featured in Vibe, Pages, King, Felon, Big News, The Library Journal, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Press, Clutch and most notably Time Magazine, to name a few. In addition to being an accomplished author, K'wan is also a motivational speaker, mentor to at risk children and the C.E.O of Black Dawn, Inc. K'wan currently resides in New Jersey where he is working on his next novel.
I'm glad Chucky got killed I've been waiting on that ninja to die and get what was coming to him karma's a mother. But I do think that uh it'll be a part 4 I hope so because a lot of people have unfinished business. Plus I want to know what's going to happen since Face is out. Plus this book had so many surprises sh*t I didn't know Face was doing all that behind bars lol. And funny how I didn't remember who Chucky was until he said it I forgot that he was the kid in the car. I see why he don't like Porshia and Lil Muck sh*t I even wanted Porshia and Lill Muck together but guess that's not going to happen.

This book had so many surprises I'm glad certain people are dead. Me thinking Richard was Pharoah smh oh well, at least, I found out who he was, and everybody got their revenge lol. This book was good though I couldn't put it down even though I was always busy and couldn't read it when I wanted. But at least, I finally finish it, and I'm hoping for a part 4 I want it to be a part 4, so I can know what will Face, and Big Monk do.
I need a part 4 lol, this book was good took me awhile because I had to read this after classes. But other this that this was definitely a good read. Mostly all the books I've read by K'wan was A1.
Bro, do you know how happy I was when Chucky got killed I got hype for like 2.5 seconds. That dude was annoying crackhead. He was a fuckin fly on the wall seriously he wanted to ruin Persia so bad. But I wanted her to get with Lil Monk instead but her head was so far up Chucky Ass lmao. I do want to know what's going to happen since Face is out. This book was full of surprises. What surprised me more was Face doing all that behind bars lol. On the flip side I didn't know Chucky was the kid in the car that day Face got knocked. Like Chucky aka Killer Chucky (from the movie) this what I call him, anyway, he hold a grudge that long. Like there was no forgiveness for this fool. But karma got him good I couldn't help but laugh.
Between, I hope there's a part 4 because there are some unsolved things that went down in this book, plus Face needs to help his daughter get on the right track.

Chucky finally got what was coming to him. I knew reading another book by this author was a promise of a good story and I look forward to reading more of his books. I was surprise with that ending and I wish I could have read more when Face and Monk got to be with each other again. Why did they go to Harlem? And whatever happened to Lil Monk after everything?
Good pacing, mix of gallows humor and heavy horrors especially for the gang adjacent women trying to break free of coke/crack and supplier trick-type situationships. Backstory from prev books is woven well between dialogue. The sexy stuff is written pretty gritty and there’s a nice cast of fashionable degenerates of all sorts and emotions.
I don’t like Christian’s dramatics. He doesn’t sound real, calling himself a messiah yet being chill the times between, or just revealing his plans too much to prostitutes who don’t need to know… Too many characters to keep track of and then dead within pages anyway. Actiony but not easy for a non-visual read. By the halfway point, I stop caring.
Well it’s happened, I finally found a series by K’Wan I do not like. I’m giving the entire ‘The Fix’ series a 3/5. So the first book had some promise, typical rags to riches story, Persia likes to be a teenager behind her parents back but that’s normal, then she met Chucky and got all the way on the wrong track. The first book was good because I didn’t expect Marty to die and I didn’t expect Persia to become a crack head and I was happy that she got her act together. Book two was ok as well, everyone was doing a little better but sneaky Chucky started to stir up trouble and drama. Book three was a mess all around. Book three seemed like it was being written as the story went along but the outcome wasn’t supposed to be what happened from book one. I had a few concerns. My first concern is the biggest shock, Persia’s mom being Pharaoh. I started to think really late in the story that it was Richard but never expected Persia’s mom. My concern there was, if her mom was Pharaoh for years and worked directly with Ramses how did Persia become a crackhead? Ramses worked directly with Chucky and Ramses was supposed to be pharaoh (Persia’s grandfather) brother, so you’re trying to tell me Persia’s great uncle let her roll around with Chucky and become a crackhead? Another concern I had is when it came to Queen, she’s Persia’s grandmother. So when everyone was at Karen’s funeral why didn’t they interact? Is Queen not allowed to interact with her? And if neighborhood knew Queen was Pharaoh’s ex and Persia’s grandmother why wouldn’t he say anything? What did Christian mean when he said he and Persia were extended family? The ending. I can understand face coming back and becoming Pharaoh but what happened. This story started with being so much about Persia and her struggle due to her father being incarcerated but I feel like book three wasn’t about Persia at all. No reunion? Everything just seemed rushed and chaotic. And did Monk just drop drugs completely to get back in the game?

This book was good, I didn't want to put it down, but sometimes I had to lol. Anywho I'm just glad Chucky finally got killed because he just kept getting on my last nerves with his drug addict self, and happy Rissa didn't die, hopefully, she gets herself together, and I wonder if Frankie and 'em gone kill her after she tells who killed that Italian dude. But only if she knew that Chucky and Charlie are dead lol. But also, I wonder if anyone gone find out who killed Petey, Hopefully not LOL I liked Omega kind of. Oh yeah my can't Porshia and Lil Monk be together I just want them together soooo bad. lol :(
This is what I'm talking about. A very good read. Didn't know who was who until it was revealed. Plot twist absolutely Happy ending absolutely Kwan did his thing and I'm not gonna ruin it with any spoilers. This was worth the wait and I must say will be added to my group of favorites
Omg this book was off the damn hook from the start of the book. I loved the way K'wan set up this story the way he did because o never thought things would happen like they did in this book. One think I'm glad about Chucky got what that ass deserved. The ending of this book was just epic. K'wan is truly a beast with the pen. Great job K'wan great job.
This almost got a 5 but ending dropped my rating. It was a tad anticlimactic for me. There were so many separate plots that all converged into one over the course of the trilogy that having them all tied up in the last 10% of the book was kind of underwhelming. This book was my favorite of the three and I liked it even though not all the loose ends were tied. The conclusion was kind of open ended so there might be more.
Some things had me confused:
So in the beginning of book 1, Monk and Face rob and murder Sunny, who has his brother Tim in the car with him. They take drugs to fund their own venture. Right after the robbery Face gets the call that his girlfriend Michelle is in labor with their daughter Persia. Sunny works for Pharaoh. Then in book 3 we find out that Pharoah was Michelle's father. She didn't know who he was until he was about to die. And then somehow was handed the reigns. But Michelle used her husband, Richard, as a puppet for the organization. And Ramses is Pharoah's brother. He and Michelle both felt that Richard appearing to run things was best. Even though nobody but Ramses ever saw Pharoah anyway. Then at the end of book 3 Face gets suddenly released from prison and he's Pharoah? I need clarification.
Who put the price on Ramses' head? Was it the Italians? Rissa went to Frankie the Fish or one of those wise guys to confess what she knew about Mr. D's murder, but that was after Christian killed him. Sidebar: Meka watched Christian peel somebody's skin off. I don't know why she's so comfortable questioning him. Was it the Clarks? The Clarks didn't want war, but they also weren't taking no for an answer, and "Pharaoh" wasn't going to step aside. Did they cut off the figure head in order to kill the body of the organization? See, I shouldn't have to speculate and make interpretations and draw conclusions. I need you to tell me what the fuck is going on.
What happened between Michelle and Monk in Michelle's house and who really killed Richard?
I'm sure a subsequent book is going to address this stuff. But by the time I read it I be done forgot what happened in this one.
UPDATE: Hoodlum 2 is after this so they are probably going to mention Pharaoh and whatever the new situation is in that book. Hoodlum is still my favorite of what I have read from K'wan so far so I might read that again first.

I'm Glad It's Over & Happy That It Appears That PERSIA May INDEED Be Getting A Second CHANCE To MAKE BETTER CHOICES WITH HER LIFE IN ANOTHER TOWN, PERHAPS.
My ONLY WISH IS THAT K'WAN WOULD SOMEHOW SOME WAY, IN SOME CAPACITY HAVE ANIMAL & LIL MONK CROSS PATHS IN A SPINOFF SERIES! PERHAPS CAIN/KANE, WHO IS A BROTHER DOWN (HAVING LOST HIS TWIN BROTHER ABEL IN ANIMAL 5), MAY KNOW SOMEBODY THAT KNOW SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS LIL MONK & HE INTRODUCES LIL MONK TO ASHANTI WHO MAY INTRODUCE LIL MONK TO KHALLAH, WHO MAY INTRODUCE HIM TO PRIEST WHO MAY HAVE HIM CROSS PATHS WITH ANIMAL THROUGH CROSS! I'll KEEP HOPE ALIVE FOR THIS TO OCCUR IN one of K'WAN's series SOME TIME SOON!
Okay, the ending was crazy (let’s start there). Pharaoh’s true identity...I thought I figured it out but I fell for the okey doke. The power players in this book is unmatched! The Clark’s, the Italians, Poppito!, Christian Knight. I’m glad to see that some people will no longer be able to terrorize the neighborhood...good riddance! I was angry about this Tiffany chick 😡. I’m team Sophie, I wonder what happened there? Persia and Michelle starting anew in Philly but Exodus 2 starts a whole different book.
What I like most is how everything unfolded, my mind is blown. There’s no words to explain what I’m feeling or thinking! This series has taken me on more turns then any roller coaster could have and I’m completely satisfied and amazed. Persia survived it all in spite of every obstacle she faced. Chucky the monster got what he deserved. If you haven’t read this series you need to start now! Happy Reading 🥰
The twists the turns the surprises,I never would've guessed...this book has made me lose so much sleep because I just couldn't put it down...because I read all 3 books of this series back to back some things seemed a bit repetitive but other than that I still continues to turn the pages 10, thumbs up
I held off reading this book for 2 years because the villians and the heroes seemed like real people. I am sad to see the saga end as it was one of my favorite. If you have the time to spend with Persia, Chucky and the rest, please pick this book up, you won't regret it!!
This book was one of the best books I’ve ever read it took me back to a time I can remember as a little girl and how the block use to be. It really fulfilled me with so many great memories, and I lived Vicariously reading every twist and turn.... MUST READ!!!!
I really liked the storyline very creative. As usual K’Wan doesn’t disappoint. Definitely a page turner, he did leave enough unanswered questions for a part 4. My only concern is all this is happening to teenagers. What caring concerned parent isn’t questioning their teenager about the late hours they’re keeping, who they’re spending time with and why is it ok for your teenage daughter to be hugged up with a grown man. I kept reading this like the characters were mid twenties to early thirties. The mention of age or something childish would bring me back to they’re teenagers. I couldn’t even imagine any of this in my children’s future. Nonetheless EXCELLENT writing and definitely worth the read
