Bad Beats

Rate this book
He's a household name. Posters of his tattooed body are plastered across bedroom walls from San Francisco to Singapore. Women want to be with him. Men want to be him. He's brash, bold, and bossy as hell, and he is about to become my employer and my step-brother, which wouldn't be so bad; except ...

He's already been my lover.

Hot Scoop Magazine's Sexiest Performer Alive, Sean 'Shag' Steal, is the front-man for Crude Element, the hottest band on the scene. With every song he pens, blazing up the charts, he's got the world at his feet.

Attempting to change his public image as a kinky, womanizing pig, hasn't stopped his wayward ways. I should know.

He played me his music. He played with my body. And he played with my heart, leaving it tattered in tiny painful pieces, nearly broken beyond repair.

I was finally putting the pieces back together, when his mother and my father decide to blindside us. They're getting married!

Could things get any worse? The answer to that question is a resounding yes.

Pushed by my dad to replace Shag's former PA, I find myself working for the one man who lives to torment me. He won't take 'no' for an answer, and he always gets what he wants. This time he wants me back in his bed, at least until our parents say, 'I do.' I have to resist. There is no way I can handle another heartbreak.

If only he hadn't earned his silly nickname because of his 'shagging' skills, resisting would be so much easier.

Warning: This book is for mature audiences and contains sexual situations, language, and subject matters some readers may find offensive, including drug use. If you like dark, damaged bad boys, you're in the right place.

Review:
“Once she’s been punished, I’ll tie her up and eff her until she screams my name. Then I’ll brand my name on her as; a tattoo will do. Next I will put a ring on her finger and a baby in her belly. Nobody would dare touch her then. She’d be mine in every way.”

5 bad beat stars!!! Dirty sexy!!!

I can’t even deal with how great this book is!!! I love a sexy rock star book and let me tell you, Shag is it!!! He’s moody, cocky and downright sexy!! Then you throw in take no crp Cadie and this story is exciting, angsty and hot!!! There so much depth to the characters and the book, ugh I really couldn’t get enough!!!

Rock Stars…
Cruise Ships…
Dating Shows…
And Hot Sex.
Bad Beats is not your usual rock star meets average girl romance. No, this is so much more. Sean 'Shag' Steal is your typical sex crazed, drug loving bad boy - it's true, but there’s a side to him that he doesn't even know is there. A side he wasn't sure could even exist until a beautiful, curvy, vivacious redhead walked into his life.

Cadie O'Shea is quiet, self-conscious and scared to live life, unlike her outgoing BFF Robin, who is intent on seeing Cadie get out there and experience the fun she is lacking.
Insert a rock and roll concert and sparks are sure to ignite. Shag's attraction to Cadie is instant, but she fights her attraction to him because, well, he's a rock star and rock stars are known man whores. Who needs that drama right?
Cadie O'Shea needs that drama!
Being contestant winners, they are ushered backstage only to find they have won their place on a trip of a lifetime, on a cruise ship... with the band! Robin is ecstatic, Cadie is more scared than anything but she will go to keep her BFF happy and also because there's a niggle inside of her, a small pang of something telling her the attraction between her and Shag is definitely worth pursuing. Even if only for a one time fling.

On the cruise tensions escalate, the sexual chemistry between Cadie and Shag reaches critical level, and they give in to their urges leaving you hot under the collar. Their attraction to each other is chemical, and on such a deep level that neither can function without the other.

The cruise must, of course, come to an end with some shocking twists, I won't say what happens as it's a spoiler but the story takes a turn and heads in another direction. I didn't see this coming, but I liked the scenes on the Island, and I thought it was well played out.

This was my first step into the step brother romance for me, and while I am no expert on the field, I would say this is a good story line to go with the book. It turned out just how I wanted it to.

I loved Bad Beats and as this is my first book of Riley's I will endeavor to read more of her work. This is a five-star read for me. Well done on your rockers CL, and welcome to the rock and roll club!

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

3.5 stars

I'll be honest and say when I started reading this I really didn't like our hero, Shag, all that much. He was very cocky and self-important. But as he and Cadie (who I thought was adorable) got to know each other, he settled down and by the end of the story I really did like him. So why only 3.5 stars? It's what went down on the island while filming the Roping a Rock Star tv show. The way the producer and Shag's record label treated him, and Cadie, was horrible. I could have done without that specific part and it would have been better for me.

All in all, this was an entertaining read and I'll gladly read more of this band's story :)

So I may not know much about Taboo subject but it seems that it is lighting up in the writing world. Many authors are writing about step siblings or parents and the attraction that can build over time or right of the bat. My take is that if you're not blood what's the difference?
After reading this book by C.L. Riley, I can say that she did a great job in the step sibling Taboo. Sean "Shag" Steal meets Cadie O'Shea one night and can't forget her. Cadie on the other hand can't stand Shag and ignores him, until the winners of the Cruise is announced at the concert Cadie was wrangled into going to. Her bf Robin is the lucky winner and will be dragging Cadie along for the 10 at sea with Crude Element. Did i mention Shag is the lead singer of a band...oops. Well a funny thing happens Cadie ends up liking Shag against her better judgement. ten days of bliss with a rock star and hot sex is just what Cadie needed to eliminate the mean words of her former boyfriend.
Riley explores different aspects of subjects here and is great in the telling of two people who may be related one day by marriage (not blood). Fate is a funny thing at times and the authors do a great job of making it work. Riley's writing flowed perfectly and I am enjoying books with the perspective of both characters. Hot and sexy with a curvy chick as the heroine and a rock star as the hero (so to speak) makes for intriguing reading so find out what happens by picking up a copy.

Bad Beats was my first book by C.L. Riley and I will definitely be reading more! This was labeled as a step sibling and technically it was not. Even if you do not like that genre I would definitely tell you to read this book. It is a great rock star book!
Shag Steal and Cadie O’Shea have an interesting start and it only gets better as the book progresses! Shag is the lead singer and bad boy. He is used to women falling at his feet with little to no effort. I loved Shag’s cockiness, it was over the top but just right too! Riley did a great job of making me love him. Cadie was a down to earth girl with confidence issues. She did not fawn over Shag and she wasn’t sure why he was even interested in her because she was not a size 2. It was refreshing to see Cadie treat Shag like a person and not a star. Cadie gives in to Shag’s perusal of her and they had chemistry off the charts! Cadie cast aside her reservations and decides to have a fun no strings attached fling. We all know how that works out and both of them start to have real feelings for each other. When outside influences and misunderstandings happen can Cadie and Shag withstand the pressure and have their happily ever after?
I really enjoyed this book. It had dual point of views which made the book have a good flow. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started! I am hoping that the rest of the characters get their own books too!

There is a lot to like about this book - The writing is fast paced and the Author manages to throw more than one genre into the story. We have Rock Star/StepBrother and Billionaire. I admit to liking the first and third unfortunately not the second, the Step Brother angle seemed a little to coincidental for me. The Billionaire was actually Jagger Hewitt another character that I liked more than the main character who's name btw got on my last nerve - Sean "Shag" Steal. In fact the word/name Shag is used over and over again. Bad Beats at times seemed as though it was two separate books The Cruise and After the Cruise. Central characters in the first part are non existent in the second and considering what happened between Shag and his original PA, that part of the story felt unfinished.
The ending seemed to tie everything up in a nice fast bow. I wished by then Cadie would have called him Sean.

Bad Beats by C.L. Riley is about the super hot band Crude Element and their lead singer Stag Steal. This book is filled with interesting twists and turns as Cadie O'Shea catches the eye of the lead singer and their relationship begins. This books was a 3 star read for me.

Cadie O'Shea has a poor self image, mainly due to the hurtful words of an ex-boyfriend, so when super hot Stag Steal shows an interest in her she can't believe it's true. What starts off as her best friend Robin winning a contest for a 10 day cruise with her favorite band turns into so much more for the fiesty yet curvy redhead. But when Cadie and Stag return to shore, it's the situation he finds himself in that does in their relationship...but will They stay apart for good? You need to read to find out.

C.L. is a new author to me but when I saw it was about a rockstar romance I just couldn't say no. I mean really rockstars scream ultimate "sex appeal" and she definitely produced that in this book. I could not put it down because she had such an amazing story plot.

Cadie O'Shea is a recent graduate from PSU and works for a bookstore. She is self conscious about herself and has low self esteem. Her best friend and roommate Robin is a die hard fan of Crude Element and has won front row all exclusive tickets to see them perform. After she begs Cadie to go, their whole lives change in an instant.

Sean "Shag" Steal is the lead singer of Crude Element. He achieved his nickname by shagging lots of women. He is all rockstar.... Loves to rock, party and have sex. Let's call it an "addiction" he has. He started up Crude Element when he was in high school and they have taken off since then.

Shag spots Cadie right away at the concert in Portland and instantly feels a connection to her. Cadie, who really didn't want to go had ignored him for the most part until he jumps off stage and lands right in front of her. She sees him in a whole different light. When backstage for the meet and greet, they announce the winner of the cruise with Crude Element and Robin wins.

The cruise allows Shag and Cadie to form a better connection and to get to know one another more personally. She realizes that she is falling for him and him with her. Until Cadie catches Shag in a unforgiving situation.

Months go by and Cadies dad informs her that he is getting married and wants to have dinner with her and allow her to meet his soon to be wife and future step brother. low and behold it's Shag and his mom that she meets after several months of no contact.

Shag offers her a job as his personal assistant and that he needs someone quick because he's about to be filming "Roping A Rockstar". Their connection is still there but Cadies dad is about to marry his mom.

Can Cadie forgive Shag for his past? Will Shag get the woman of dreams? Will the past come back to haunt them?

This books had some many interesting plot twists and so much behind the scenes drama, but I loved every second it. I will definitely being going back and reading C.L.s prior stuff. Awesome book! Never mess with a Bad Beat!

What a gem this one is, excellent read...

Bad Beats by C.L. Riley is an awesome read and one you will not want to miss.

 photo 19367034._SX540__zpsyzpfvlyr.jpg

Sean "Shag" (gotta love that name) Steal is a rock star of epic proportions for the hottest band on the planet - Crude Element. He has everything and nothing, so he keeps himself happy with women, booze, and drugs - the life of a bad boy rock star.

In walks Cadie O'Shea, curvy, down to earth, red hair, and your average every day type of woman. Definitely not someone a "rock star" would fall for, right? Wrong!!

I love a good rock star romance and then add in the taboo element of "step brother" and I'm all in. The step brother part in this book doesn't actually appear until midway, and the way it is dealt with is particularly good. I loved the way the author dealt with this subject matter, and in turn, it made the book an even more awesome read.

There is drama, sex (lots of it), angst, and it will keep you guessing as to where this is all heading. I really loved the way that Shag was tamed by his red-headed goddess, and how he was with her.

This book is a dual POV, which helps you to understand both sides of the story with their well-developed characters. It is fast paced, intriguing, and captured me very quickly, and held my interest throughout the entire book.

This is a five star plus read for me, and I would highly recommend it to others. Well done CL Riley on an impressive leap into the Rock Star genre.

WOW WOW WOW! There isn't one thing that I didn't absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE about his story! Cadie O'Shea is forced by her bff, Robin, to go to the Crude Element concert with her. Cadie can't get out of it, and they even have backstage passes. She has no desire to meet the band, as she knows they are just players who wouldn't look twice at her. To make matters worse, Robin wins the fan cruise that she made Cadie promise to go on if she won, so now she's going to be stuck on a boat with the band. Sean "Shag" Steal is the super hot lead singer of Crude Element, and can have any woman he wants. But there's something about the bored red head in the first row that he can't get out of his head, but to his surprise, she wants nothing to do with him. When he learns that she will be on the cruise with her friend who won, he's excited to get another chance. He finally wears her down into taking a chance with him, and they can't stay away from each other the rest of cruise. Right before it's over, Shag breaks her heart into pieces. When she's finally putting the pieces back together, her father tells her he's marrying Shag's mother, and if that isn't bad enough, her father talks her into becoming his new PA. Shag is excited she accepts, as this is his second chance with her, and what Shag wants, Shag gets.

This was a story that had all my dramatic emotions out to play. I was happy, super enraged, angst filled, sad, and finally leveled out. The character development is fantastic, with a very entertaining cast of secondaries. Cadie and Shag had flammable chemistry which IGNITED into fiery flames of sexy scene goodness that left ashes in place of panties. C.L. Riley's talented writing style had me hooked from the very beginning, and took me on one hell of an emotional journey. In a time of taboo romances being all the rage, hers was original, highly addictive, and kept my heart pounding to the very end. Her twists and turns made for emotional OMG moments, and I was seriously a wreck during Shag's new show, but thank goodness , she didn't kill me dead. I CANNOT WAIT to read more by this amazing author, so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this awesome story!

“I like people who shake other people up and make them feel uncomfortable.” –Jim Morrison
That opening quote to the book had me brace, and for good reason. Instincts still sharpish. Shag is just not very likable. Our main is a man you are supposed to love/hate. While reading his intro I'm finding him to be in the Geraldo Rivera realm of self love and admiration. So...I'm mostly just hating him, and yet oddly fascinated. I'll admit it's like a train wreck how awful he is, yet I just have to watch-well, read on anyway. Savage. He's a beast. In all honesty, this is the stuff that makes my heart hurt-callousness. I'm just too delicate for some reads/characters.
*clutches pearls
Yet...Shag Steal can be sweet. I can't believe I just said that. But so true. Their "honeymoon phase" was to die for. Loved it. This story was well written, and quickly devoured.
Cadie O'Shay, this one, well, she's just a gingery hormone driven fool for love. She has terrible ex's- exhibit A- "You are so f**king fat, Cadie. No one but me will ever put up with your overeating and those thunder thighs. For God’s sake, Cadie, if I wanted to spend my life reading, I’d date a book. Cadie, why can’t you at least fake an orgasm? A fish would be better in bed than you are."
Ah, yes, I'll say it, "the things we doooooo for love." Such as get back with a guy who did you wrong the first go round(exhibit B, your honor) but wait, this time it's just a job and sex. Hey, wait a minute...! *slow blink
Moving on, we have a little doormat syndrome in effect; on the other hand she completely stonewalls him at times. She can be a heart of stone, RBF, one cool customer...leading us to wonder, what really happened between these two? Can it be fixed?
“Girls have got balls. They’re just a little higher up that’s all.” –Joan Jett
Now, for the meat of it. And by meat I mean-male bird. The good stuff. They are busy, these two. Very busy. Making the beast with two backs. Hiding the salami...

I am a huge fan of music especially rock music. So when I get the chance to read a rock star book I can't wait to jump into it. Throw in the step sibling issue and that amazing blurb and I'm sold. This book was everything I wanted and more.

The main characters are very likeable. Cadie is the down to earth girl with bright red unruly hair and curves galore. She's an average everyday woman. She also loves to read which I love in any book I read if one of the characters is a reader. I instantly connect more with them. Shag is just hot, he's the bad boy rocker who loves living the rock n' roll lifestyle. He has a tough exterior but on the inside he's as sweet as a teddy bear. Oh yes and let's not forget the sex is scorching hot in this book and there's plenty of it. Cadie and Shag will melt your kindles.

The book was fast paced with povs from both Cadie and Shag. The story was very well written and the storyline kept me interested from the first page to the end. There is plenty of drama that will keep you guessing what will happen next. Some of the characters I seriously wanted to strangle. I always love with books like this when the author does something different likes incorporates music into their story, this author used quotes. I loved reading them at the beginning of every chapter and it gives you a glimpse at how some of these legendary musicians really think. In all honesty Crude Element is a band that I would rock out to and I'm hoping for more books in the future featuring these characters. I'll be following C.L. Riley closely to see what she comes up with next.

Meet Crude Elements 5 friends who formed a band in high school and did the unthinkable rose to the top. But with any rise to the top there are always those jealous friends from your past who only come out of the woodwork to leech off your success. This is Shag's story the lead singer of Crude Elements, and his name couldn't be more appropriate. Living up to the reputation of a Rock Star sleeping around, drinking, drugs and not giving a damn about the consequences. That is until his past catches up to him.

Cadie is a geeky girl forced by her friend to attend a rock concert she never expects to catch the eye of the hottie that is the lead singer. With a fan stampede a lucky winning ticket and then the revelation that their parents are going out together despite her best efforts to avoid Shag they keep getting closer. Cue a not so romantic getaway with a Bachelor theme and a twisted ex trying to light their own star using Shags and you get a twisted romance.

This romance had a lot going for it, Hot rockers, a step romance, passionate leads, good friends and a twist with a reality TV show in the plot. I really wanted to connect with the story I love a good rockstar romance but something about this book left me wanting. I can't put my finger on the reason why I didn't love the book as much as I feel I should have, but it just felt a little blah in places I could see where the author wanted to take the story but despite the excellent writing it just didn't work for me.

I really enjoyed this one. Sean "Shag" Steel can have anything he wants. Until he meets the beautiful girl that he just cannot resist. Cadie knows Shag is not in it long term. He is known for being quite the ladies man. Enjoy this story as Shag and Cadie spend time together and their connection builds. When things around them cause issues between them, they must discover if what they have is enough. I enjoyed this book of string chemistry, love and the determination to have it all.

WOW!!! I have been shocked and awed. This is the first step brother romance that I have not only liked, but I throughly enjoyed, devoured. I will be buying more of this "new to me" author.
The book is full of twists, devious deals, drama, and sex. So much sex that one of the main characters is named Shag. He is the lead singer of Crude Torment. He loves the limelight. He lives for the attention. So when Cadie sits in the front row looking at her phone during his performance he is blown away. Shag is enthralled. He will not stop until she has been throughly shagged.
Cadie isn't the thin model. Cadie isn't the girl that gets the guy. Ten days on a cruise ship proves her beliefs wrong. Life is the love boat until a "staged event" throws love overboard.
Drama has just begun. I scraped my mouth of the floor and kept reading, and reading. I could not have predicted some of the things that happened. The author has such an imagination. OMG!!!
The villains, (yes more than one) had me screaming. I wanted to reach in the pages and slap them silly. Just wait, I bet you will feel the same way.

Sean “Shag” Steal is the man everyone wants to bed, he’s hot, sexy and a rock star at the top of his game. He also has a hell of a reputation, one that he needs to change before he loses everything including his career. When Shag and Cadie are thrown together on a cruise sparks fly and for once Sean is ready to settle down but when things go wrong Cadie is left nursing a broken heart and jobless. Months later and Cadie and Shag are again back together but this time she’s his new P. A and guess who’s about to be her new stepbrother !!
This book took the whole “Stepbrother to Lover “ genre and turned it on it’s head. It was steamy, funny and sad in places and an absolutely wonderful read. Shag and Cadie were a lovely couple and add in a cast of misfits and hilarious situations and you have the perfect book.
This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author but it definatly won’t be the last and I am really looking forward to the rest of the band getting their own stories.

If you like musicians, drama and heat, then this is the perfect book for you! Bad Beats is a rock star romance, but it's also a stepbrother romance and second chance romance of sorts. The plot was fast paced and easily held my interest from start to finish.

The characters were well developed and very likeable, although a few times I wanted to smack them for their stubbornness. Sean "Shag" Steal is your typical hot alpha rock star who has earned his nickname much as you would expect. Cadie is a business woman and soon to be step-sister to the rock legend. I found Cadie very easy to relate to, as I think many woman would, with her body image hang ups. The odds seem stacked against any lasting relationship between Shag and Cadie. Will their impending status as step-siblings ruin any chance of being together, as well as Shag's career? Can they find a way to make it work?

This was my first book by C.L. Riley, but it likely won't be my last. I was utterly captivated! C.L. Riley has a new fan.

I have to say that this is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It was so well written. I was sucked in from the first page. I won this in a good reads giveaway. I had not previously heard of the author but I liked the plot synopsis.

It's about a rock star and his naughty rocker lifestyle which is so well known he's known as Shag... I am sure you can figure out the why. He is the main Male role of the book. Enter the main Female Cadie, who's come to shake up his world. Plot twists galore. A lot of heat and sensuality but it also pulls out all the range of emotions. Laughed, cried, wanted to punch a few of the evil doers right along with the main characters. It is by far one of my favorite books now. I give it 5 stars, wish I could give it 10. I don't want to give away more except for saying that it's a must read. I am going to be watching out for the hopes that the other band members get a book. Would love to keep reading their own hea's!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions in this review are my own. I had so many different feelings and thoughts while I was reading this book. I was very intrigued to learn more about Sean "Shag" Steal. I enjoyed Cadie O'Shea's fuller figured depiction and character. I think readers will like the storyline that develops between Steal and O'Shea. I enjoyed the descriptions and insight into the lifestyle of the rich and rock stars in the music business. This book was very funny in my opinion as I was reading, in a life is funny sense. I felt many of Cadie O'Shea's emotions and shyness along with her. I felt like I was on vacation with the way the scenery and settings were described. There so many surprises and subplots that I was very engaged with the book all the way along whilst reading. I would recommend this book to friends and other readers.

This was a stepbrother/sister story but so much more. It was an interesting twist on the whole genre. Shag is the lead singer of the band Crude Element and notorious playboy. Girls are falling at his feet but not Cadie. She is not interested in the least. The only reason she agrees to attend his concert is at the request of her best friend Robin. What should have only been one night turns into Robin winning a cruise with the band and leads to Cadie and Shag getting to know each other better and their attraction building and being acted upon. These two were smoking hot and were able to change the other in a positive way. Not everyone is on board with their romance and go to great lengths to keep them apart. This book was funny and adorable almost to the point that you forget the whole stepbrother/sister connection and focus on the romance. Excellent story!

Bad Beats is the first book I have read by CL Riley. It definitely won't be the last though!
Cadie has been torn down and is insecure. She's feisty, stubborn, and knows when to walk away. Especially if her heart gets broken.
Shag is an alpha male. He's talented, a womanizer, and has been burned by an ex.
What happens when you meet someone unexpectedly? Will outside forces continue to conspire against them? Or, will the pair decide that they don't care what people think?
CL Riley pulled me into Bad Beats from the beginning of the book and I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. You will read about love, betrayal, friendship, protection, jealousy, and family. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to learn if there's another one that will be coming out.

This is my first book by author C L Riley and as cliche as it sounds, it won't be my last. Bad Beats is a wonderfully written rocker romance with lots of amazing twists. It had this reader smiling, laughing and of course sighing during the erotically hot romantic scenes.

Cadie and Shag have an instant love/hate attraction. What this couple learns about themselves, their family, and those closest to them will keep you glued to the pages. They go through a journey that you do not want to miss. I highly recommend 1-clicking Bad Beats and offer a huge 2 thumbs up to the author - you won't be disappointed!

What can I say? I loved this book. This is a great story with lots of hot sex and I can easily see at least four more books in the series. I read the Scorched souls series books 1-4 back to back a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with CL Riley's writing style. Her female leads are feisty and I, as a woman with curves, loved Cadie. I love my curves. So if you haven't had the chance to read any of her books don't leave it any longer. This book was awesome.

I love reading Rock Romance books so I couldn't wait to read this. I was so happy when I received it early! This book had me screaming and had me laughing! I love the little twist, that I didn't see coming. I hope the rest of the band member each get their own book!! Great job C.L. Riley!!
