When a dead faerie lands in her lap, bounty hunter Cy Vanguard knows her life is about to change.
Dandelions. People hate 'em. You know what Cy hates? Faeries in New York City. Sure, it sounds hypocritical since she is one too, but she doesn't have wings. That means she gets a pass. Court law, not hers. Law or no, her winged compatriots keep popping up everywhere in the city like...well, dandelions. Talk about annoying. Especially when they're dead.
Add one mouth-watering vampire– the mortal enemy of all faeries– to the slip-and-slide that has become her life and things become leakier than a porcupine's umbrella. Now, Cy is slapped in the face with the fact that she might be done with faerie, but faerie isn't done with her. She can't run anymore. She has to choose. A people who never accepted her? Or a fiery love and the death of everything she knows?

Erica Reeder is a USA Today and International bestselling author who writes Cozy Mystery and Urban Fantasy. Glitter is her territorial marker. Kids, boyfriend, you name it. If it’s got glitter on it, it’s hers. Besides an infatuation with things that sparkle and all things fantasy, Fun is her favorite F-word. Whether throwing her characters a demon or hiding pixies in pants, fun (and a little bit of love) is sure to be had.
I'm feeling a bit torn about this book. I think the author has a fantastic imagination and developed some really fun ideas in this compelling story. There's a good mix of action, mystery, romance, suspence, and snarky humor. And the author uses great imagery, so I found it very easy to imagine that I was right there in the story, living out the events along with our bounty hunter faerie princess heroine, Cy.
However, I found Cy a bit frustrating at times, occasionally even bordering on too stupid to live. She's sufficiently well developed that in most cases I could understand why she made the decisions she made, with one glaring exception that seemed inexplicably ridiculous given her background but formed a major plot point. I hate when a plot relies on characters making really bad decisions.
I also thought some of the secondary characters had the potential to be really interesting, but we don't get to know any of them all that well, even the past and present love interests. Because we only see the story from Cy's point of view, all we learn about the other characters is what she shares with us, from her limited knowledge and filtered through her frustrations and insecurities. I really wanted to know more about Anthony and Sven, and I would have enjoyed learning more about some of the other characters too. Again, kudos to the author for at least creating characters that I *wanted* to learn more about. She's got a knack for writing hooks and piquing your interest.
By reading this bundle of episodes 1-6, you're getting a story that wraps up several plot points, while leaving plenty of questions still to be resolved in future episodes. I felt that the ending was adequate, but not entirely satisfying, just because the final combat wrapped up a little too quickly, and too much of what happened was beyond Cy's awareness, and therefore we the readers don't learn exactly what happened.
My other main criticism is the occasional grammar and punctuation problems. However, I'm a retired editor, so this probably bothers me more than it would most readers.
I look forward to reading additional episodes in this story, but I also hope that the author finds a good editor to help her polish her writing.
Note that I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Kindle Unlimited This is a well written, erudite novel with defined characters and a strong heroine. It's of the private investigator ilk and has all the essentials: murder, vampires, fae, and some good dancing and clubbing (as in nightclub rather than merely violence :). The story is strong with plenty of detail, maybe too much in some places.
This is probably up there for fans of Kim Harrison and Karen Chance.
I was asked to review this book in exchange for a free book. But I promise that this is my honest opinion. I really enjoyed this author. She created an amazing main character. I loved Cy and I loved the world she lived in. I wish we could have spent some time with her just in her every day life as a bounty hunter. I would have given the book 5 stars based on the main character alone, but there is a but. I had trouble with the main character's love interest; he seemed to be one dimensional and as a consequence their relationship left a lot of to be desired.
***Spoiler Alert **** Sven claims to love Cy and yet he doesn't protect her from his world. He has lived in the world of vampires for hundreds of years and yet seems to not understand what his world is really like. He is close to these other vampires in the book and yet doesn't seem to understand them or what they are capable of. And if he does know other vampires well, then he doesn't truly care for the main character. When he took her to that "family party," the way he treated her at the party made me question his feelings for her. If he was a smart guy and had used his 400 years well, the dead fairy should have been a huge clue to him (he would have known or had a good guess as to the responsible party). He does at the end come through for her, but I found his lack of protection of the main character made me feel like he was either simple minded or very naive.
I had a lot of questions for the author when I finished the book: - How come Sven isn't addicted to Cy's blood? - Is it ever going to be explain why Cy's wings decided to appear? - Why does Cy communicate so little with her client? She doesn't seem to care about sharing what she has learned with them. - Sven knows his uncle provides all of the fairy blood. Why doesn't he ask questions when the dead fairy is found drained of her blood and pregnant? Why doesn't he care about a fairy that has been killed by one of his own? Why doesn't he offer to help Cy find the killer?
Overall, I liked the book. I really wanted to love it because it had such amazing potential. The author had some amazing ideas that I really found entertaining. But I was overwhelmed by unanswered questions and some parts in the plot just didn't add up.
This is my first book (s) by Author Erica Reeder (and certainly not my last!) and it truly is phenomenal!! I absolutely loved it. Would I recommend this book to anyone? Absolutely! Everyone (over the age of 18 due to sex and violence)! Nothing I would change about this book! She's got this!!! Awesome job Miss Reeder! "If you like books with kick-ass heroines, bad boys, and the fate of an entire race hanging in the balance (oh, did I mention fairies and vampires too?!) then check out the Violet Chaser series. The wit will keep you laughing. The mystery will keep you guessing. And the attitude will keep you coming back for more". I love fairies and vamps and Miss Reeder has blended the two flawlessly!
Cybil (Cy Vanguard), fairy princess born with no wings and bounty hunter gets an usual request for a murder case of a young fairy girl that has been missing for a long time only to show up as a corpse. Running into Sven at a bar flips her entire world upside down.
This book grabbed me at it's first sentence and held my attention the whole way through. I started reading it on a whim, without knowing much about either the book or the genre, and found myself loving every chapter. I really had trouble putting it down.
I'd never read anything quite like this before and have found the combination of fantasy and adult themes to be exciting, captivating, and highly entertaining. I finished reading it last night and didn't go to sleep until I'd purchased the next book, Nevermore, and loaded it onto my Kindle.
Let's start with things I didn't like. I didn't like how the relationship with Sven just exists. "3 weeks later" what? There wasn't really any relationship building. I like Cy as a character. I like how she is a hero that is rough around the edges etc, but I think she needs a little more character development. It is like there are parts of her life that are referenced that we are just supposed to know. I still don't understand why her dad was murdered for example. All in all a good read and I want to know what happens to the characters in the next book.
I don't know. This book wasn't bad, but I hadn't expected it to be so romance heavy, and while I knew there would be a love interest, I hadn't expected the insta-love. I liked both Cy and Sven, but found their relationship kind of boring. I also would have liked more detective work. Answers just kinda fell in to Cy's lap, without her even really trying. Then, to top it off, the book just ended. It didn't feel complete.
Of course that means I have to get the next book, though. . .
Interesting, but not enough to me going on with this series. I kept thinking there was details I was missing. I felt Cy and Sven more to fast to have any real connection for them to be in love.
I found this book mildly frustrating. The flow of the story just didn't work well for me. On top of this I couldn't connect with the main character. In the end it took me quite a while to finish this book. Regardless, the plot was decent and the romance was ok.
This was a very interesting premise I don’t think I’ve seen in any other paranormal work I've read. The characters are instantly complex in a way that makes you want to know more. Who do you count on when the people who are supposed to love and care for you are the ones that want to destroy you? You count on yourself. It goes a little Romeo and Juliet on us, even though only one of the pair knows they're not supposed to be together. I really enjoyed that we get to learn about both the Fairy and Vampire/Vampyr cultures and how they interact - or don't. I loved watching the relationship between Cy and Sven develop. The chemistry between these two is smoking hot and I’m desperate to see more. This was a fast-paced read I couldn't stop once I got started. I also had forgotten about the cliff we’re left hanging off at the end of this book, so I’ve very glad I now have the opportunity to binge the whole series. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout as part of the box set.
Cybil(Cy) is a princess in a world where the fae have evolved without wings to protect their race. Sven is a vampire, and everyone knows that vampires crave fae blood. This is a great book and the characters are interesting. The only thing I found to be confusing is that with a few chapters there was a disconnect with the timeline. Cy was doing one thing and then all of the sudden she was somewhere else. If this could flow more smoothly it would help greatly. I fully intend to keep reading the series.
This review was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure" .
It's my first attempt at this author writing and i really loved it so i hope it won't be the last...Cy is a faery but an unconventional one, she has no wings ( that part has become common as a way to protect themselves from the vampires), she is independent and she doesn't mind using her power in a fight......oh faeries can fight , they are taught martial art but using their natural power for that is forbidden.
For all these reasons and to flew her mother Cy is living in our world being a bounty hunter, she must hide her true nature but she has friends and she is quite happy until she find an older fae lost in our world and she step in to help him meaning coming back to faery land and from there all go wrong. Discovering that more faeries are in the real world against faery law and that some are killed she is charged to find the culprit....
While on that search she meets Sven in a bar and the attraction is immediate... the only problem is that he is part of her natural ennemies and she can't resist him but the ennemies are not always those we are taught would be.
Really i loved the story, we can see the bad side of fae ( really they make me more afraid than vampire because from vampire you expect it but fearies even with their own....a nightmare) and the action is fast paced, i was surprised that it took so long to Cy to realize what Sven was though. Kittie is really a character i want to see more of as well as it brings humour as well . I love how loyal Cy is even when in mortal danger she think of others and with her upbringing that 's something she has become by herself alone.
The only detail that didn't make this book perfect was that it was first released as a serial and it cut the story and reading too often but thankfully the author decided that next book wouldn't be in a serial form so it should only get better
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Wow, I really liked this book, or I guess I should say, these books. I enjoyed reading the six novellas and was very happy I had all six because they are cliffhangers in a big way. Cy is a fairy princess, but no one is the human realm knows that. She works as a bounty hunter, although these stories contain very little bounty hunting. When she finds an old man being picked on in the subway station, she takes action. Butt kicking action. She is very surprised to find out the old man is also a fairy, but he doesn't seem to know she he came from or even who he is. This means Cy must go to the one place she really doesn't want to go - home. Her mother, the fairy queen, has never been a loving mother. She cannot believe her daughter was born without wings, even though every fairy born around that time has none. Cy returns the old man and her mother orders her to find out what happened to him. Yeah, right. She also gets another strange case involving a young female fairy who was found dead in the human realm. Her parents want to know what happened to her after she mysteriously disappeared for over nine months. Cy wants to know where all these fairies are coming from when they all should have been safe in the mounds. Cy in the meantime, has met a man who has her rethinking her no boyfriend status. He is a hunk and she can't understand why she is so drawn to him. Even his name Sven, turns her legs to jelly. He only has one flaw, but it takes her a while to discover it. So, fairies, pixies, vampires, and even a troll. They are all in this realm and no good can come off their mingling. From stalkers, to kidnappers to blood stealers, there is never a dull moment. I hope we get more of Cy.
Violet Chaser (Episodes 1-6) by Erica Reeder Erica Reeder’s Violet Chaser is a mysterious fantasy that held me captivated. Faerie Princess/Bounty Hunter Cy Vanguard investigates the murder of a Fae in New Your City. Simultaneously, she meets the man of her dreams. Unfortunately for her, he is a vampire, the race that almost hunted the Fae into extinction. This contemporary urban fantasy is suitable for adult audiences.
I really enjoyed this book. It was cleaver and had many intriguing twists. Erica Reeder did a great job with her descriptions. I liked the personality differences between the vampires and vampyr. The plot was interesting and fast moving.
The character development was well done. Cy is a great heroine. She is not your typical princess. She is tough and not afraid to get her hands dirty. She is smart and brave. She has some interesting talents. She does what she feels is right. I like Sven. He is down to earth and noble. The two have great chemistry. The conflict with Anthony was compelling. Kittie was a fascinating addition. Thomas is a notable adversary. He comes off as crazy and determined.
Cy and Sven are both likable characters. I would really like to see their story continue. Erica Reeder created a wonderful world that has lots of potential for future stories. She has me hooked. I will definitely look out for more books by her in the future.

Violet Chaser is an Urban Fantasy Romantic Suspense Novel (that's a mouthful to say) that follows a runaway faerie princess. Cy is the daughter of Queen of the Faeries, who left her home due to not living up to the perfection her mother required. Cy has made a life of her own in the human world and makes her living tracking down the bad guys.
Violet past life has never been easy, she is a wingless faerie that has been betrayed by the ones she has loved. While she has made a life of her own she is lonely, for there is no one that understands her or who she can confide in. All that changes when she meets the mysterious Sven. She has an undeniable pull towards him and Cy believes she has finally found the person that will make her world complete. However, Violet soon learns that Sven is someone that could be very dangerous to her but she can't seem to stay away from him, even if it could cost her, her life.
On top of Cy's complicated love life, she is investigating the murder of a young faerie under horrific circumstances. As Cy begins to investigate, Cy is thrust into the dangerous world of vampires and the possibility that her new love my have had a hand in the murder.
I loved the suspense and tension in this story. I was always on the edge of my seat, trying to guess who was behind everything. As I was reading I was never able to fully determine what was actually going on until it was revealed. I had a lot of theories and none were right, which is a good thing. I like being stumped and surprised in my suspense books.

Faerie princess full of sarcasm and rebelling against rules represented by her own mother - that´s a hilariously awesome base for a book. Count in some vampires and other supernaturals, and you get the feel of this fast-pacing adventurous urban fantasy series. Cy lives among humans, making her living as a bounty hunter - until she is hired as a private investigator of faerie murder. Suddenly her even so twisted life becomes turned upside down and she must face not only the threats connected with tracking a killer and appearing in the middle of a clan of vampires, faerie enemies, but also handling all the taboos and custom breaks a faerie could imagine. I love author´s style of writing. It´s full of humour, irony, even sarcasm, lightening the mood even when describing a fatal fighting scene. It made me laugh even when I should have been concerned about the protagonists´ life. Characters are well-developed and totally kick ass, adorable at the same time you want to roll your eyes over their actions. However, in some places I found the plot quite predictable and the whole glitter thing felt a bit odd and awkward. Nevertheless, it did not bother me that much and I was able to fully enjoy the book. I was given a copy for review purposes and I would recommend every fantasy reader to give this book a try.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review which in no way affects my opinion of it. First things first, I love vampires and this book was an excellent play on the mythological creatures. I thoroughly enjoyed the author's interpretation of them. I'm not exactly one for fairies, but this book made them not so bad. My favorite part about this book is that it's not slow. I hate slow books. All 6 episodes of this series were action packed. Another thing I really enjoyed was the pace of the story. Some authors struggle to find a good pace, but not Reeder! I guess this review has mainly been analytical in terms of story structure so I'll throw something else in. I read it in one sitting because the main character Cy was so enthralling. Sometimes repeatedly reading about women main characters kicking ass gets boring but this was a refreshing change. Cy's character was obviously well thought out by the author (along with the other characters too). Okay, this is getting long, so I'll leave it at this. If you're like me and you haven't gotten over the vampire trend that was oh so popular a few years ago, then pick this up! Even if you are over vampires and fairies and all that, pick it up anyways. This book is a fresh look on both.
I love this story! Ms. Reeder's writing is witty with just enough snark that it isn't overdone or irritating. The plot is a steady anchor throughout, regardless of the many twists the storyline takes. The premise is plausible as to be so unremarkable I'd not be shocked to discover Faeries live among us. The character and story development kept me not only interested but also enchanted.
Cy (pronounced 'sigh') Vanguard is no typical Faerie Princess, either. She is independent, intelligent and extremely resourceful. She recognizes the irony of many situations she is forced into, but she doesn't view them nearly as funny as I did.
I dissolved into a fit of giggles reading the scene about the pixie and the tape. It awakened the Handsome Hunk who asked what I was reading. So, I had to share the story with him.
I recommend this book to everyone who appreciates a crafty mystery, a love story with life altering risk, or a detective tale primed with danger. Also to everyone who enjoys a story with no plot holes to nag your mind and can enjoy a terrific tale just for the pleasure of it all. Read this one because it is fun!
In my opinion, the very best part of having read episodes 1-6 of Erica Reeder's Violet Chaser is knowing there will soon be more!
Cybil was a fairy but not the typical one. She had no wings and worked as a bounty hunter. Not what expected. She had to fled from the fairy world because she was not standing the rules and was making a life by herself. Strong, beautiful, smart and determined heroine. When she was asked to investigate a murder she felt she was out of her league but the circumstances made her agree and her adventure of life or death began. Definitely, this story was very interesting, full of action, good and bad emotions, intrigue, suspense and sexual encounters. The sexy characters had mystery around them and kept me reading avidly. Liked how the author developed the plot. Each twist in the story kept me at edge, guessing about the outcome but every time I was far from the truth. Loved the challenges Cy faced. The process was elaborated, well described and felt real. I caught myself going over the steps with her. This was amusing and entertaining. I was totally caught in this well written story that stimulated my imagination and I enjoyed a lot. This is the first time I read a story by this author and she will go to my favorites list.
This book was enthralling! What a unique combination of Fairy and Vampire. I'm always impressed at how many books can exist within a certain genre and still be so vastly different from the others. This author has taken some fairy and vampire lore and interwove them to create a world and a story unlike I'd read before, and one that I had difficulty putting down. In addition to fae and vampires, we also have pixies! What?!?! And the main character was so fantastic. I found myself relating to her, laughing with her, rooting for her. She's a strong female lead, but no so much that she's a jerk or someone you can't empathize with. Along with a great protagonist, the author has created the antagonists to be so evil and vile that you just loathe them before you even realize they are the "bad guys" of the story. I would definitely recommend this book to any reader of the paranormal, but especially those who love fairy and/or vampire books.
*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
So, I signed up for a book give away which meant I gave away my email to a crap ton of authors whom I haven't heard of before including this one. I got offered a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. I actually quite enjoyed this story.
It's a quick read featuring a entertaining fairy princess with purple hair living under glamour as a normal blond bounty hunter in the mundane world. She gets assigned a case involving another fairy and also falls hard for a hunk at a bar who happens to be a vampire whose kind is known for loving fairies ...for lunch. Chaos ensues of course. There was a part where the book seemed to skip from her at a vampire party to her suddenly being out in her car driving around. Other than that jump not making sense, it was a good book and I plan on getting the next one when it comes. I wish my hair was naturally purple, it would save me a bunch of money on hair dye, but I wouldn't want her evil bitch of a mother. Getting to read this book was worth the flood of emails to my inbox.
This book was crappy. I didn't like a lot of stuff in it. There was insta-love, not enough world building (to the point where I got a bit confused), and a main character that was rather eh. Not to mention, the plot line was rather wonky - it went from one thing to the next without a lot of cohesion, and I expected more explanations and connections. I will not be reading book two.
Insta-love: Cy (I hate her name) and Sven (I hate his name too, it makes me think of Frozen) were all over each other within half an hour of their first meeting. This sadly grew worse.
Lack of world-building: There were several unexplained details, such as why vampires and faeries hated each other, and the history of supernaturals in general.
Main character: Cy was not that great, and I expected more from her. I expected more from this whole book, but Cy above all was the worst. She was lame, for one thing. Then she was boring. She never got better, or became exciting.
This is the first time I have read a book by this author and was very pleasantly surprised at how well the book was written, what you’ll find in this story is remarkably impressive and engaging characters - Cybil (Cy) who is a faerie (without wings) living in the human world earning her living as a bounty hunter/investigator due problems/disagreements with her mother (The Queen) and involved in her life is Gaige (a human friend),Sven (A vampire) and Anthony (male faerie who seems to be in love with Cy) This story has drama, suspense, murder, pent-up rage, horrific danger, abduction, life threatening incidents, camaraderie, spiraling emotions and erotic scenes. I look forward to the next series with abated anticipation and recommend this series to people that like to read paranormal stories.
What an amazing bundle of books!!! This is the first I have read from this author and you would not believe how glad I am that I had these to read. From the first page I couldn't stop turning the pages, every page had even more action. I loved each storyline and I hope and Prey there will be more, this is definately one of my favourite books I have read this year. It's true what they say, opposites do attract. Every charachter is so well thought out and each personality is so unique. I loved Cy!!! She had such a strong charachter, I always love the strong women in books and I loved that invulnerability she has also got when it comes to her fears and pain. She's charachter is brilliant too, with his protective Instincts and the feeling of safety he always gives Cy. I am so glad I came across Erica Reeder, I am dying to read anything else she has written, simply awesome
This was a great book! Cy is a fairy princess, whom like all fairys born in her generation are wingless. She has exiled herself from the fae world, and has made a name for herself as a bounty hunter. A huge case is dropped on her desk for a murder of a fairy. In the midst of trying to relax over the stress of the investigation she goes clubbing with her bestie, she meets Sven. Sven is a hot, sexy, yummy, and oh yeah, A VAMPIRE! The race who literally almost killed out the fae race. He doesn't know she's a fairy and she doesn't know he's a vampire. What a story this makes! Now that the vampires know that there are still fairys in the world, they have managed to keep hidden for centuries to protect and try to rebuild their race, they are all in danger! This was a exciting book, full of action and fun! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion. This is my first time reading anything by Erica Reeder and let me tell you, I WAS NOT disappointed. First off, the characters in this little bundle were spectacular, who doesn't love a badass independent fairy? A smoking hot vamp? HELLOOO, romance me now. Speaking of, the romantic aspects weren't overbearing like some fantasy/paranormal/romances, but they still held enough sexy to grab you where it counts. The story line was perfect, most bundle stories like this forget to follow the story line and I was very impressed when this one did. It was also a perfect mix of serious, sarcastic and funny points. Okay, obviously what I'm trying to say is I loved it and everyone who loves fantasy/paranormal/romances should try this out. -Destiny :D
I liked this book because it was different. Cy is a Faerie who is a bounty hunter in the human world. Her relationship with her mother is a good portion of the reason she doesn't live with her own kind. I like how she is her own person and doesn't just follow orders and the crowd. When she meets Sven, everything changes. She has never felt this way about anyone, even Anthony! Sven is a vampire, the one thing Cy cannot stand. The constant interference of the other faeries in Cy's life was annoying and I felt horrible for her. She couldn't do anything without one of them knowing about it. As a bounty hunter, it isn't her job to investigate murders but when she goes to tell the clients that, she just cannot say no. The secondary characters are made to shine in this story as well, not just Cy and Sven. It was a 4/5 for me. The author weaves a very addicting story!
Who do you count on when the people who are supposed to love and care for you are the ones that want to destroy you? You count on yourself. A really interesting premise I haven't seen in any other paranormal work I've read. The characters are instantly complex in a way that makes you want to know more. It goes a little Romeo and Juliet on us, even though only one of the pair knows they're not supposed to be together. We get to learn about both the Fairy and Vampire cultures and how they interact - or don't. I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Cy and Sven develop. The chemistry between the pair is smoking hot. A fast-paced read I couldn't stop once I got started.I'd say the adventures of Cy and Sven aren't over yet and I look forward to reading more. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is a fun book to read, full of interesting and quirky characters. Wingless fairies, pixies, sexy vampires and some really stalker like vamps too. Cy is a great character, a wingless fairy turned bounty hunter in the human world, there's a good story here with a lot of action and some "romance". Oh, there's glitter too, you'll need to read the book to find out why. I was lucky to accidently find a site where this book was offered free to anyone who was willing to post a review. I gather that this book has just been edited for errors and rereleased. Well, if that's the case, the editing worked as I didn't find any glaring grammatical bloopers. I would certainly read more by this author, in fact I will probably grab the next book in the series as soon as I can.
