Trouble continues for Kelly and Travis Bishop. Their older brother, Jon, runs away to New York City, the nation embraces Majik Juice, and the American Security Administration makes house calls at two in the morning. The good news? An assassin thinks he can save humanity from injustice. The bad news? Demons have discovered the perfect lure to get Kelly back into Pandora's Cave. The deep mystery and heart-pounding terror of The Demon Conspiracy Series continue, in Book 2, The Doomsday Shroud. Reminder: The Demon Conspiracy Series is still the only teen novel series required by the American Security Administration to post a warning about potential negative psychological effects on the reader. READ WITH CAUTION."
A really well written, scary and humorous book, scary enough for young and old...ish. A tale of the beginning of a demon, human war. Demons are back and with vengeance, they want the world above and the humans they don't eat, forced into the caves as slaves, but he demons and their human associate didn't bargain for Kelly, her brothers and their newly acquired expanding family. Highly entertaining and recommended.
The demons are after Kelly Bishop. The panic room is completed and the demons are still finding a way to get in. Jon, their older brother, has set out to gain followers. He is the world's greatest magician and is in New York City to prove it to the world.
One of my favorite parts is when Jon the magician, confronts a bunch of homeless hungry people in an alley that is private and they are determined to keep it that way. Jon tells them that he is looking for followers to help spread the message that the world is going to end. We need to prepare. The bums tell him, "Ya gotta feed me, I'll folla anyone who feeds me." Jon says, "Enjoy." Behind them was a candlelit, cloth-covered table with settings for nine. Huge dishes of traditional Thanksgiving food were set on the table, including a whole turkey. There were vegetables, stuffing, gravy, snap beans, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie for dessert. Every dish on the table looked like real china and the glasses were crystal. Beside each glass was a bottle of Majik Juice. Everyone just gawked and asked if it was real. I just love how vivid and funny this description is. What a great visual!
There's a lot more action and excitement in this second book of the series that I wanted to read it all night long. The drama keeps building as I wait to see if the demons will be turned to dust.

The Doomsday Shroud upholds R. L. Gemmill's tremendous storytelling that I first enjoyed in Book 1 of the Demon Conspiracy Series. I love the human characters, but there's something so appealing about even the most dastardly demon in the book. Does it make sense to say they are "horribly, disgustingly cute"? Gemmill has taken pains to craft a patois for each individual monster, and that's going farther than Tolkien did with his several languages in the Lord of the Rings. I can easily imagine folks walking out of the movie of these books talking like the Demons. Their language will prove as infectious as the Valley Girl speak in Clueless. The action in Shroud is relentless, but Gemmill does not sacrifice depth of character, or well-rounded relationships. It's more a case that the plot is allowed to race forward because you know exactly who the well-defined characters are, and how they feel about each other. In this title, even romances spark. The extent of the demon infiltration among Humanity is revealed to be far worse than I first thought. This story even weaves in a fascinating mission to Antarctica where time and space collapse and expand with intriguing plot ingenuity. I dig this book. The Devil's Bite is next on my list. What a great series!
Compelling continuation of the first book The Demon Conspiracy where I first met the Bishop family. I love the additional characters. Granny my favorite so far but looking forward to learning more about others. Can't wait for book 3 The Devil's Bite.
