So here's the deal.

That guy you bought the latte from this morning on your way to work? Yeah, turns out he wasn't human. I know, you're surprised. It's okay. That's normal. In fact, chances are the majority of people sitting around you right now aren't human, either. You're probably in danger. You might want to do something about that. Go ahead, get yourself someplace safe. No, I'll wait.

Are you there? Great. Now listen up, cause there's only time to say this once. YOU ARE BEING LIED TO. THEY are everywhere. They're your mailman and your accountant. They're the girl who works the register down at the grocery store. They're your boss and your friends and your parents. They're everyone, and they're EVERYWHERE.

Pretty scary, huh?

But don't worry. You know about them now. You have a chance. You can survive. But you'll have to be quick.

Now, tell me: do you have any salt?

I really enjoyed reading this book, although it's simple. And I don't know how to describe it without throwing away all the notes and quotes I took. But let's try.

Dan is just a man trying to pay the rent, and he's not the kind of man that becomes a hero. But somehow he managed to do it during the book. Frankie's my absolute favorite, he's so ridiculous and hilarius that I can just love him. Frankie lives with Dan because of reasons, and in the following events of de book he's the one ready to make the right thing. But I wouldn't say that I liked Abby, I think that I needed a little more background to understand her behavior.

About the plot. I really liked this alien-slug invasion, specially when Dan said it was the most unoriginal invasion ever. Also, I liked the open line about the Queen and the boys getting back to their normal lives.
What else? Dan tells the story. There are many pop references, which gave it an special touch when I understood it. And that's what it's in my mind, if I ever have another comment I'll add an update.

Did I mentioned that I LOVE the cover? I'm very gratefull to Richard for the ebook, but I need to touch that cover.

If you're looking for something funny and that doesn't take itself too seriously, I urge you to check out Dan and Frankie Save the World. I haven't laughed this much while reading a book in a long time. The two main characters, Dan and Frankie, are hilarious and likable even though they both mess up a lot and are far from perfect. I found myself rooting for them both while still laughing at the mistakes they made and the hijinks they got into.

The topic of an alien invasion isn't something I would normally be interested in but the way the story was written held my interest all the way through. The humor and the two quirky main characters made me totally invested in what was happening.

This is a promising debut novel and I hope this author writes more. I would love to see what happens next to Dan and Frankie.

So corny! So punny!

This book is almost impossible not to like, and is akin to reading a book chock-full of dad jokes, bad puns, and just overall corniness. This is light read, of course, but my sides are hurting from laughing. :D

*A copy of this book was sent to me in exchange of an honest review.*

That cover, though, that cover is wonderful.

Ok, so this book is about two very unlikely characters who have to help save the world (Evident by the title). There’s cases of mistaken identity, mishaps and a humouristic way to see the world.

The plot develops quite nicely for an apocalyptic novel. There’s everything that’s usually in an apocalyptic novel. There’s the start-up, then where the main characters team up with other survivors, begin to develop and the big war. This novel has all of this, and more - the humour, the interesting characters, the captivating dialogue.

The dialogue’s an important part of the novel. Dialogue (and characters) are a big determinator in deciding in what kind of genre the novel is and who would be more likely to pick the book up. In this novel, the novel is more directed to guys (snarky humour and typical ‘guy’ jokes and the characters and their personality is more directed at guys). And it works. Some girls are able to read these types of novels and enjoy them. And I do. I enjoy these types of novels because they show that humour in life and that shitty things happen to everyone.

Characters are another thing. Characters sell a novel. They make the readers want to turn the page. They make them invest in their lives and root for them. They make a novel better because the characters try to save the world, or themselves. Dan and Frankie are most definitely not the typical characters you’ll find in an apocalyptic novel. They are more the characters you’ll find wasting their lives in the bar – but they find themselves in the middle of this intergalactic war or something and they develop enough to begin a journey that only the jocks have taken up before.

And it’s interesting, because Dan and Frankie aren’t the typical heroes. They aren’t physically and they’ll probably never be regarded as the perfect heroes, but it works because they represent the average American and shows the readers they can be heroes even if they’re ordinary.

All in all, it was a great read. It had a sense of humour you’d only see rarely (mostly because no one seems to care for it). Yes, this type of novel is written with a remotely specific audience in mind, but the great thing is that it can be for any audience (if you just read with enough interest- and this novel definitely made me do this).

While a bit crude at times, it is a very funny and enjoyable story that I didn't want to put down. The characters are quirky and likable, and Mr. Langridge's writing has a feel to it that is reminiscent of the late Douglas Adams. If you liked the Hitchhiker's or Discworld books, then you should give this book a try.

This is a clever and entertaining book. Dan and his witless friend, Frankie discover that there are aliens living amongst us when Dan accidentally kills his boss after they break into his home while inebriated. Things get worse from there. This book is not PC and there’s lots of violence especially dismemberment. But my biggest problem with it was the overuse of the word “rape” as in “mouth rape” and “ear rape” by the aliens who were trying to take over their minds. Enough already. Otherwise, it was a very entertaining book. The action was steady, and no part of the story dragged. Some of it is laugh out loud funny. The final conflict was over the top, but I liked the surprise help they got. Perfect. There’s a sequel that I’ll probably read. I really enjoyed this book and the writing is great. Langridge is a talented writer.

This was the biggest waste of time I’ve ever seen published. I can’t imagine anyone past seventh grade thinking it’s interesting or funny. I love the movie “Plan 9 from Outer Space” because it’s bad enough to be fun. This book isn’t. It’s just bad.

David Wong and Christopher Moore, don't get me wrong, I love you both. However, if you'll check your rear view mirrors, that's Richard Langridge and he's gaining fast!

I read the ridiculously hilarious prologue and had to go through the book.

Simple, funny narrative that keeps you interested especially with a ridiculous romantic line in a utterly chaotic setting.

Unlikely heroes and funny times :)

Kind of a slob comedy of books, if that makes sense. Nothing serious (if you don't count the alien takeover), and a fairly steady stream of funny lines. I did find it odd that it used proper Queen's English as it supposedly took place in the US but didn't feel particularly British or American, or even Canadian. Not sure if it was deliberately vague but for some reason, I kept wishing it would commit. Not bad as a change of pace kind of book, though.

It was okay

Aside from some spelling and grammar errors it was okay. If it was a movie would be a b movie, but good for a light read. Looking forward to the next ibe

Funny and silly

Funny story. Glad it was somewhat short as it's tiring reading about such stupid people! But it's a good beach read
