"Moon in Shadow" is the story of Claudia Avery, a 20 year-old model who discovers that the mother she thought had died years before had in fact been alive until fairly recently, living in a crumbling upper New York State mansion. Claudia has inherited that mansion and over the course of several days will discover the unpleasant secrets of her long-lost mother's life...and death. "Moon in Shadow" flirts with witchcraft, spiritualism, sadism, and voyeurism, which is quite a mixture for a novel that's only 170-some pages. The usual pitfalls that happen to the Gothic heroine are given a creepy overlay here; and although Claudia screams in requisite places, she's nobody's fool and ultimately comes to her own rescue--which is good, because absolutely no one in the book can be trusted. Worth seeking out as a short, creepy read.
