Nora Roberts, hands down, knows how to write a paranormal romance series like nobody else.
They are always enthralling, fascinating, completely addicting, and ones you never want to end. Her newest and latest is not an exception.
I wasn't sure how I was going to like this installment, knowing that it would be mostly told from Annika's point of view. Not because I didn't like her, quite the contrary but because of what she was and how that point of view might be because of it. She is super innocent, super sweet and because of it, still naive and learning the world around her. Not your typical heroine in a story filled with darkness and good versus evil.
I was so wrong to be nervous about it. Annika is in fact a strong heroine. One that took me by surprise the more we got to know her and live inside her head the harder is was not to love her. She is one feisty lady that goes after what she wants like a bloodhound and what the girl wants is to keep her friends safe, to find the stars and of course, Sawyer. Poor man, he didn't stand a chance against her and her wily ways.
If there is one thing Nora does right besides the paranormal, is her romances. Always slow to build, burn, and heat up,and ones, once you have opened them and gotten a taste of it, you don't ever want to escape them. Swoon worthy, romantic, and always done right, this story had it all.
I truly was both sad and mad that book three wasn't out yet and I would once again have to wait to see how it all comes together and to get inside the next couples head.
Another hit PNR series from Roberts and one that has already wormed its way into my heart.

The journey of the six continues following the collection of the first star. This time, the locale is the Isle of Capri in Italy and Nerezza eventually discovers them. But this time, she enlists the help of a rogue known to the group. Sawyer King and his famous compass are the focus, as is the beautiful Annika, the siren from the sea.
Though plagued with a terribly slow start, Annika made this a captivating and fun story. Her naïveté and innocence, overlayed with a joyous and playful spirit, provided much comic relief among the dark and violence. Sawyer's attempts at resistance were also laughable but just made their romance more endearing.
The fight scenes were brutal and there are some very tough moments. But, it made the story exciting and I just wish they'd occurred earlier. It was a slow build in developing the team strategies and relationship bonding, all necessary but it was tedious at times. However, the payoff at the midway point made it worthwhile. I loved the ending and where they end up next.
This is a really good trilogy and I'm anxious to read the final story.

One of the things I like most in this trilogy is the uniqueness of each character. The six fated to save the world are more than just human. Sasha is a seer and Bran a magician. Annika a mermaid granted three moons with human legs to complete her quest. Sawyer a time traveler, Doyle an immortal, and snarky archeologist Riley is a shifter. Together they formed a family and have each other’s six. In Bay of Sighs they continue to grow stronger as they search for the second star.
In the first book, Stars of Fortune, we had Bran and Sasha’s romance. I continue to enjoyed the growth we witness in Sasha. Bay of Sighs focuses on the second star, one of water but it also has a slow building romance between Annika and Sawyer. I am super excited about Island of Glass, the last book featuring Doyle and Riley. These two have wicked banter and nip at each other. While the storyline is predictable, it's the telling of these stories that make them such delightful escapes.
Annika is an absolutely hoot and her summery personality and outlook is infectious. Since Annika has lived her life in the water, all is new to her and it created plenty of humor and banter. Sawyer is attracted to Annika, but sees her as an innocent. However, Annika fell in love with Sawyer years ago. She wants more with him but is bound by rules all sirens must follow and cannot tell him. Thank goodness, for her friends Sasha and Riley. They help find loopholes around those rules.Poor Sawyer! Sawyer is a traveler and as a Whovian I was already swooning. I love how level-headed and brave he is. He was also patient with Annika and protective. It was fun watching Sawyer fall. Roberts delivered heat with tender moments in this impossible romance.
The suspenseful thread regarding their quests continues. Roberts had us spending time with the dark side. Wounded in the first battle their enemy gathers aid from a human. Blood oaths and bargains are struck bring danger for our fated ones. We get plenty of battles between research, friendship, training and our romance to keep the reader flipping the pages. It was fun seeing all of them work as team and watching them push the limits of their abilities. Dark and suspenseful moments were brutal and sent a shiver down my spine.
While I typically would not mention cliffhangers in this type of trilogy, since the final battle is yet to come….Roberts does leave us with questions, concerns and hope for Sawyer and Annika. While they make plans this romantic is hoping for a miracle from the gods. Fans of paranormal romance, mythology, quests and friendships will enjoy Bay of Sighs and the Guardians trilogy.

Now on the isle of Capri and having acquired the fire star the six-Sasha, Bran, Sawyer, Annika, Riley, and Doyle are searching for the second Star of Fortune, the water star. But the evil goddess Nerezza is on a mission to have her revenge and she recruits some of the cruellest humans to help her. On top of that Sawyer and Annika fight their feelings for one another. After all, can a mermaid and a time traveler ever find love?
I love the camaraderie between the six and the atmosphere was definitely darker this time as Nerezza was definitely more present in the novel. I wasn't as swept away with the romance pairing this time around. Sometimes Annika 's naive nature drove me a bit bonkers. All in all, I am eager to see what awaits our team in book three.

The book was great though, I'm loving the story and the fact that there are 6 of them working together in all the books.

It was good, continuing from book #1
The heroine is a mermaid, I was listening audiobook version, while I like the story, the narrator tried too hard with Annika’s voice, she sounds naive instead of, oh I don’t know what to expect with how a mermaid should talk, lol. Eventhought she had learn in her world, she new with the language and lots of things that we took for granted in everyday life. I can see the narrator’s problem now 😂🤣
I love Sawyer and Annika, the time traveler and the mermaid, they are so cute together:)

I like Nora Roberts's books and her "In Death" series written as JD Robb. But these supernatural series are getting tiring. The books are padded to make them long enough for a trilogy--the story really could have been told in one book. The Bride series or the Inn/Boonsboro were much better than these fantasy stories. Nora should shelve her fantasy ideas (mermaids, werewolf, time traveler) or maybe let JD Robb use those ideas. Nora is best with REAL people and more description. I did not care for the first book in this series and liked this latest one less but will read the last one when it comes out. But I now get her books from the library--none of these fantasy trilogies are worth buying in my opinion.

I really like this paranormal fantasy series- with the chosen six each having extraordinary abilities but working together as a team on their quest to save the world. Also, love the couple pairings - first Sasha and Bran then Annika and Sawyer. Can't wait to read the last book for an epic conclusion and the possible development of romance between Doyle and Riley!

Excellent middle book! So many times the second book in a trio doesn't move the story along and is just a filler. But Nora always uses the second book to build the suspense.
This book is much more violent than the first one. But it has the calming additions of the mermaid.
Annika. Now you may think the weirdest thing about her would be the tail, but...she LIKES to do dishes! Weird! Add to that, she likes calisthenics! And laundry! So weird. 😳
Anyway, I absolutely love all the comic book references and pop-culture references! I love when Nora gets her Geek on! 💋

Annika y Sawyer es una pareja que me gusta mucho, y he disfrutado mucho con ellos. Tengo ganas de rematar la trilogía y ver cómo acaba todo

If there is one writer that has made an impact in the reading world it has to be Nora Roberts. With the multiple styles and types of books that she writes, she has never missed the mark on offering an engaging and delightful read. I was able to review this new release from this powerhouse and was blown away with this amazing read.
Bay of Sighs is a remarkable story. I fell in love with the characters from the very beginning. Annika is a sweet, delightful character that just makes you happy. I can just envision her floating and fluttering through life and dancing in the air, much like a fairy.
Sawyer is perfectly matched to Annika as he is a kind and gentle soul with deep feelings for her. Together they are perfect and you just keep hoping that they will find a way to find happiness for a life time.
This book is actually the second in a series of three. And while I never read the first one, Stars of Fortune, I know I have to go back and do so. I never really felt lost in this book as the author explained in detail everything that was going on. Plus, the story so riveting and exciting you can’t help but become attached to the storyline and characters.
I have never met a book from Nora Roberts that I didn’t love. She is a gifted author that can write in so many different themes with amazing passion, depth, and detail that just brings you right into the story. This book is an perfect example in that this is not my typical genre that I read but I know I will be first in line for the next installment in the series, Island of Glass, which is due out in December. Fabulous work!

Bay of Sighs is the 2nd book in Nora Roberts latest The Guardians Trilogy.
I was not impressed with the follow-up to book 1, Stars of Fortune.... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... which I loved.
Annika and Sawyer's story just dragged on most of the time....okay, the Isle of Capri setting...
But....
all that training going on....and on....and on!!! All the mermaid and sex and penis jokes...........after a while....just got boring and more boring!! Even the evil goddess Nerezza became a drag!!
The mermaid Annika and time traveller Sawyer romance never felt real to me!!! There was something lacking between them!!!
The only parts I liked were about Annika
.......she was beyond adorable.........her love for shopping, bright baubles and table settings - totally endearing!!!
I felt disconnected with this story and what I am now looking forward to is Riley and Doyle's book.....hopefully it will be a "blast."

so much time has passed since the first book, that i had actually forgotten about this series. and then in the beginning i had a lot of trouble remembering who each of these characters were. once i got that under control, i could sit back and enjoy. NR grabs you by the throat at the beginning of a book and doesn't let got until the end. i always read her books fast; i just can't put them down. i loved the story -- the jokes, the tight friendships, the ideas tossed around about how to "rescue" this next star. the next one is december; so unfortunately, i'll forget a lot of this in the meantime because i read a couple books a week.

It was a good book but, I found it was very samey to the first one with just a few differences. The story idea is good if you’ve never read Nora before but, for me it was “oh I read this in book one”!!
I will read the last one just to finish the trilogy. Shame I used to enjoy her books.

Solid 4 "Splash!" Stars!!
No doubt, this book is slow. There is a lot of training, and cooking, and eating, and yadda, yadda, yadda. But! When the action came, it was very good. This story is classic good-vs-evil. I like it! And I simply adored Annika and Sawyer. She is just delightful. Sweetness and light. Plus I think mermaids are super cool. He is such a sweetheart gentleman. His heart is so honorable. They love each other like a fish and a bird- or better yet some land animal. You get what I'm saying. I'm really hoping for a more permanent solution to that situation in book three. Now, I'll get on to that. Happy reading!

The search for the Water Star takes the Guardians to the island of Capri off the coast of Italy where they await the goddess Nerezza's new assault. Little do they know the horrific weapon she plans to use against them. As the bonds between the six grow stronger, two in particular struggle with their feelings for each other - Annika, the mermaid, whose time on land is limited, and Sawyer, the traveler, who fears losing his heart to a woman who will soon be gone.
Unfortunately, this installment suffers from middle book syndrome. The first 2/3s are rather slow and very little happens except for training and some build-up toward the showdown with Nerezza's monstrous new pet. The final 1/3, however, is very exciting with some truly intense and suspenseful moments.
Annika and Sawyer's romance is sweet, and it is impossible not to care about them and the virtually insurmountable obstacle that they face. Nora's solution is quite inventive although it isn't all that realistic or believable. Then again, this is fantasy, so a healthy suspension of disbelief is required. Speaking of Annika, she is simply adorable, and her discussions with Sasha and Riley about men and sex are hilarious.
Overall, not one of Nora's better sequels, but I am eager to find out more about Doyle's past and to see what is in store for him and Riley.

Not as good as the first book in the series. Even though I really liked the main characters, I had a hard time imagining they had sex in her natural form, her being a mermaid. The protagonist wasn't as fierce in this one and the killing team was disposed off too fast in my opinion.

*sigh* this was such a wonderful story!!! Is it bad for me to say that the MERMAID is my favorite character of the six here. My goodness she is so badass yet sweet and hilarious. I love how honest she is and just says exactly what she is thinking and has no clue about what is politically correct or social behaviors and its so funny. Like when she wants the hero for sex, she doesn't understand the steps to having sex with a guy. She doesn't understand if he is willing, and she is willing....then lets go for it hehe If only real life was so simple. I can't wait for book three!!!

In Bay of Sighs, our story continues with our journey to find all three jewels…the stars of Ice, Fire and Water to help with the rise of the new queen. And it all comes down to six players, all with magical gifts, that will save the day and triumph over the evil that is hunting the three stars. They have found the first jewel…the Star of Fire. And now they are on to find the second one…the Star of Water and their trusted time traveler Sawyer, has transported them to the Island of Capri.
Annika is from the sea, she is a mermaid, and was honored to be part of this quest to search for the three stars and make a pact with the other five members. Annika knows that her time is very short, and that she will have to return to the sea after their quest is over. She has a temporary agreement to have both a tail and legs and to change them at will. Annika is carefree and innocent in many ways, she has a beauty that everyone is drawn to. She is athletic, has no inhibitions when it comes to sexual desire, she breathes the water and the sea, she delights in the simple things in life and is in love with Sawyer even though knowing their time is short.
They are on the hunt for the Star of Water, and they are busy training trying to be ready for whatever may be hunting them. Annika delights in cooking and doing laundry, kissing her Sawyer and swimming in the sea with or without legs. Annika is a bit clueless when it comes to social structures of human society, she is a mermaid and sees life differently. She is so full of life and has this vibrant feel to her character that just makes you smile all the way through the story. I will admit that Annika is my favorite character of the six. There is something so different and unique about her character and every time she enters the story, you keep smiling and laughing at her antics but boy she is badass. She can fight when she needs to but she can’t handle weapons. Guns and knives are not her forte, she is innocent in many ways but she has other abilities to fight and protect those she loves.
Our hero, Sawyer, has his compass, a device that allows him to travel time and space and he can transport himself and others anywhere he desires. Its a gift that has been passed down through his family. Sawyer finds himself drawn to Annika and her joyful spirit. He is reluctant to start anythiing serious with Annika because his feelings for her are serious and he knows she has little time with him. But both Sawyer and Annika realize that they need to hold onto every precious moment they have together with no regrets.
This book made me laugh and cry and kept me on the edge of my seat. Quite frankly, the romance the builds between Sawyer and Annika is sweet yet SEXY!! I honestly wanted them to get together so badly, and they make such a great team together. The sex scenes were pretty awesome, I mean honestly, they were so FUN and sexy. They have explosive chemistry, and yeah Annika is experience in the bedroom and isn’t shy about her body or the pleasure she gets from sex especially when its with Sawyer. I really loved that about her character, she knows what she wants and goes after it. There was one odd sex scene though, when they have sex when she is a mermaid…that was a little odd but I went with it. But hey…Nora Roberts somehow made it work.
There is suspense and adventure…we get some evil workings of the villain and boy she is so evil and I really liked seeing how these six wonderful characters almost defeated her….but we still have book three before we see her get her justice. The ending got a bit intense there for a moment, and yeah I was a bit in tears in parts especially in some poignant scenes between Sawyer and Annika when their love is put to the test.

In Bay of Sighs, our story continues with our journey to find all three jewels…the stars of Ice, Fire and Water to help with the rise of the new queen. And it all comes down to six players, all with magical gifts, that will save the day and triumph over the evil that is hunting the three stars. They have found the first jewel…the Star of Fire. And now they are on to find the second one…the Star of Water and their trusted time traveler Sawyer, has transported them to the Island of Capri.
Annika is from the sea, she is a mermaid, and was honored to be part of this quest to search for the three stars and make a pact with the other five members. Annika knows that her time is very short, and that she will have to return to the sea after their quest is over. She has a temporary agreement to have both a tail and legs and to change them at will. Annika is carefree and innocent in many ways, she has a beauty that everyone is drawn to. She is athletic, has no inhibitions when it comes to sexual desire, she breathes the water and the sea, she delights in the simple things in life and is in love with Sawyer even though knowing their time is short.
They are on the hunt for the Star of Water, and they are busy training trying to be ready for whatever may be hunting them. Annika delights in cooking and doing laundry, kissing her Sawyer and swimming in the sea with or without legs. Annika is a bit clueless when it comes to social structures of human society, she is a mermaid and sees life differently. She is so full of life and has this vibrant feel to her character that just makes you smile all the way through the story. I will admit that Annika is my favorite character of the six. I thought Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts was a pretty good second book to the garden series.

Holy crab, what an end .... The scene where Annika gets the star - beautiful.
I was really curious to read how she will develop Annika further, and how the story about the Stars would continue.
And after the first book I was a bit disappointed because the way all the characters were was something I don´t bring in connection with Nora Roberts.
Annika is in love with Sawyer. But as a mermaid she has to stay quiet. Can´t let him know that she feels what she feels for him, because he has to do the literally first step. It has to be his choice if he wants to be with her or not. And with the fight against Nerezza there are some other things she has to focus on. And to know that she will have to go back into her natural environment, the sea, when the fight is done, doesn´t make things easier for her. But Sawyer is not moving any step further towards her, though she can see and feel that he wants her, too.
This novel is written in the personal perspective. This time it is the turn of Annika and Sawyer. The mermaid and the time traveler. The reader gets to know her thoughts, her way of thinking and what she would like to do as much as Sawyers. So the tone of this novel is in many ways darker because of the scenes between Nerezza and Andre Malmon, you will also find a very interesting tension that comes along with Annika´s purity, her light brightness, her innocence and that she refuses to handle any kind of weapon.
Nora Roberts combines evil with the innocence of a child, with the sunlight Annika brings because of how she is into the lives of the others. That combination is really beautiful and shows that not everything has to be dark and complicated.
Okay, maybe some of her readers need to get used to the fact, that all kind of fantasy figures are created in a Nora Roberts novel. Like me. Because you actually don´t expect the author to use such figures as a mermaid, a lycan or an Immortal. Usually she is not using such fantasy elements as her characters or in a novel at all.
In her The Guardians trilogy she does, and with Annika and Sawyer she created two figures how couldn´t be more different than they are. Where Annika is light, bright and very easy going, Sawyer is quite the opposite. He feels a lot for Annika, but thinks that because of the situation they’re in, he has to be a real gentleman. And exactly that behavior brings him into trouble with himself. Because he wants to lay his hands on her, wants to have her and knows that her time is limited.
I was entertained, enjoyed it very much and had my reading pleasure. Yes, this second book was in my eyes better than the first one and I am looking forward to see how things between Riley and Doyle will develop. For every Nora Roberts fan I can only say: read it.

The Bay of Sighs, the second book in The Guardians trilogy, is packed with action and adventure and picks up right after the end of book one. The six guardians have landed in Capri to search for the second star, the Water Star, before Nerezza has regrouped after her failed attempt to steal the first star. Annika and Sawyer are front and center in this installment and find themselves the ones to retrieve the star and fall in love as well.
Annika, the mermaid, is athletic, speaks her mind without a filter, and loves with her whole heart. She is relishing being on land, and doing normal everyday things with pure delight and pleasure. I love her innocence and how she is trying hard to learn the English language and its nuances. When she is in the scene you can’t help but love her demeanor and infectious happy attitude. Annika also has a hard time dealing with the harsh reality of hurting or killing another human, but eventually understands the need to protect the ones she loves.
Sawyer King is a time traveler with the aid of a family heirloom, and is fighting his attraction to innocent Annika, especially in the middle of this mission. I think one of the funniest scenes is when Annika confronts Sawyer and flusters him with her forwardness. Sawyer is that guy who works hard, tries his best, and takes the responsibility of the compass seriously. However, things get more complicated when Sasha reveals that another player, Andre Malmon, has been enlisted by Nerezza. Andre Malmon is a fortune hunter who wants Sawyer’s compass and recruits mercenaries to aid his cause to capture Sawyer and the other guardians as well.
I’ve been a longtime fan of Nora Roberts’ romance novels and her paranormal romances are becoming my favorites. The author has created an over arcing story for the trilogy that has me interested to see the outcome; especially when its good over evil and a romance that’s sensual and real. The team of Sasha, Bran, Doyle, Riley, Sawyer and Annika are working together and fighting side by side in their quest to retrieve the stars and return them to the sky. Roberts weaves their interactions seamlessly and the pace is steady throughout the length of the book. I’ve enjoyed learning more about each of these characters and how each of them contribute something to their cause, pushing each other to make each of them a stronger unit. Bay of Sighs was an excellent read and I can’t wait for its conclusion of the third book later this year.

Bran and Sasha found they also were meant for each other in the first book. After finding the first star and defeating Nerezza in an epic battle, our little group is now in Capri, searching for the second star, the Water Star, and preparing for another battle with Narezza and her minions (these things give minions a bad name). This time around Nerezza had recruited a human, Andre Malmon, to help in her quest to possess the stars and destroy anything in her way.
Sawyer and Annika are heating up the pages in this book. Try as he might, Sawyer just can't seen to view Annika as just a teammate or a little sister. No, the lust thing keeps getting in the way. Annika, for all appearances, an innocent, isn't as innocent as Sawyer would like to think she is. She has her own agenda for Sawyer and brotherly feelings aren't on it, but sex, down and dirty is.
Sad to say, but this books suffers from middle book syndrome. A lot of rehash of book one and tons of boring training, preparations for the coming battle. The introduction of the evil human, Malmon, is interesting, but not enough to save this one. 3 1/2 stars

I like how this book took a turn and it was actually through the eyes of a different character. I️ caught myself laughing a couple of times. I️ did enjoy it but I like book one better. I️ am however looking forward to book three. I️ would like to see how it all comes together in the end.

Bay of Sighs es la segunda parte de la Trilogía de Los Guardianes. Como Stars of Fortune, esta novela tiene dos líneas principales, la romántica y la de fantasía. Aunque, en comparación con la primera, Bay of sighs me ha gustado un poco más. No por la trama fantástica, sino por el romance.
En esta novela, siguen las aventuras de los guardianes: Sacha, Bran, Swayer, Annika, Riley y Doyle. Ellos han aceptado su destino por completo y se esfuerzan por completar su misión de encontrar y proteger las estrellas.
Tengo que decir que como personajes son bastante agradables. Ver juntos a Sacha y a Bran es realmente adorable. También me encanta Riley, porque es toda una badass. Al único que le encuentro queja es a Doyle. En serio, a veces me desagrada, al menos, un poquito. Es que su actitud me parece un poco grosera y brusca comparada con todos que son amables y serenos. Pero bueno, intento comprenderlo.
La trama fantástica ha estado bien, hay otro nuevo villano bastante creíble y detestable. Aunque si hubo un par de partes que se me hacían un poco lentas. El suspenso no ha sido aburrido, pero tampoco ha dado paso a giros inesperados.
En cuánto al romance, creo que ha sido el elemento más positivo de la novela. Como dije en review anterior, los personajes de Swayer y Annika son mis favoritos. Estaba muy emocionada por leer su historia de amor y la verdad no me ha defraudado. Su romance es tierno, sexy, divertido, protector. Creo que Swayer y Annika hacen una pareja perfecta. Sus actitudes congenian muy bien y tienen mucha química.
Por un lado, Annika es tan adorable, leal, simpática. Su no-tan-inocente-actitud es genial y graciosa. Mientras Swayer es tan protector, fiel, inteligente, amable. Es perfecto, aunque a él no le parezca. Es un buen hombre y nunca intentó aprovecharse a Annika. La escena de su primer beso fue muy diferente que el primer beso de Sacha y Bram. Esta vez, me fascinó. Lo sentí y fue tan real. Juntos tienen una tensión innegable y me comía la uñas esperando que su relación progresara. Ha sido maravilloso.
El final ha sido bastante satisfactorio, como el anterior, y consigue engancharte para la continuación. Sin embargo, no estoy segura de si seguiré con la lectura porque Riley me agrada pero, en serio, no creo que tenga nada en común con Doyle. Creo que su romance me parece sin fundamento, ya que prácticamente ni se han hablado mucho en estos dos libros.
Aún así no descartó por completo la posibilidad de terminar la saga y saber si todos cumplen la misión.
