Smoky Mountain #2

Misty Mountain

Rate this book
When Lacy and George begin dating, each of them keep a shield around their hearts. Lacy's been hurt so many times, she's afraid to let another man come close. George, reeling from a bitter divorce, doesn't trust women for fear they're all like his ex-wife.

Working together at Misty Mountain in a small town in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains creates its own set of problems, especially when the ex-wife moves into town. Lacy's family history causes further complications when too many want to remind her of her sister's bad reputation and subsequent death.

It's a complicated mess, but the attraction between Lacy and George keeps them coming back to simpler solutions. If they can put down their shields long enough to discover the love growing between them, then nothing will stand in their way to finding happiness.

P.C. Zick describes herself as a storyteller no matter what she writes. And she writes in a variety of genres, including romance, contemporary fiction, and nonfiction. She's won various awards for her essays, columns, editorials, articles, and fiction. Currently, crafting fiction—mostly romances—occupies her time.

The three novels in her Florida Fiction Series contain stories of Florida and its people and environment, which she credits as giving her a rich base for her storytelling. "Florida's quirky and abundant wildlife—both human and animal—supply my fiction with tales almost too weird to be believable."

Her contemporary romances in the Behind the Love series are also set in Florida. The novels in her most recent series, Smoky Mountain Romances, are set in the fictional town of Laurel, North Carolina. She is currently working on a new romance series, Rivals in Love. Join the Crandall family of Chicago as the siblings find love despite their focus on successful careers. Her Montauk Romances are set in and around Long Island and feature simple, yet sophisticated beach houses designed with romantic intent.

Civil War Journal from the 2nd Michigan contains the reminiscences of her great-grandfather, Harmon Camburn, who joined the Union Army on April 20, 1861. The book contains his journal as well as annotations about the war in general. She’s also included several appendices that add local context to the journal. This is an expanded version of Civil War Journal of a Union Soldier published in 2013.

She has written several books of nonfiction on topics from gardening to travel to memoir. Her body of work contain stories set in a variety of places. Along with writing contemporary fiction and romances and creative nonfiction, Ms. Zick is also an editor, book formatter, and publisher.

She and her husband live in Tallahassee, Florida, during the winter. In the spring, they enjoy life in the Smoky Mountains near Murphy, North Carolina, where they enjoy gardening, kayaking, and golfing. And of course, in both locations,

Ms. Zick weaves stories that share her philosophy of living lightly upon this earth with love, laughter, and passion.

Remember the boy next door you had an unrequited crush on? Or the guy in high school whose dimples you could never quite forget? The frat brother who became the one who got away? Misty Mountain will bring all those feelings back again... and more.

When Lacy and George begin their romance, you can't help but root for them. Of course, so much stands in their way. Dark reputations and nefarious machinations threaten to keep them apart. Will they beat the odds or succumb to all the forces working against them? I recommend you read this compelling story to find out.

Zick not only tackles a romance plot in this work, she touches on personal themes like the problems with divorce (including how it can negatively impact children), the pluses and minuses of small towns, the result of rumors and innuendos, and how secrets can escalate out of control. That's a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time, yet she does so with competence while entertaining us.

Fans of Zick's work will recognize this setting and some of these characters and slide right back into them like cozy slippers on a chilly night. Those new to her work will soon find themselves as comfortable and engrossed as the rest of us. I hope there are many more installments to the world she's created here. I, for one, will be happy to visit again.

Great romance by P. C. Zick. Lacy and George are dating until his ex-wife, Becca, comes back to their home town. Becca and Lacy have a history so Becca doesn't want George or their son, Jed, being friends with Lacy. Lacy needs to accept the past wasn't her fault and move on so she can be happy. Will Becca get over the past and move on with her life? Will George rekindle his relationship with his ex-wife? Will Lacy and George stay friends? Jed is in the middle of this, can George and Becca do what's best for Jed? Read Misty Mountain to get your answers.....

I liked the premise but the characters are all evil or all good. George & Lacy make solid decisions on why they shouldn't be involved at the present time then for no good reason at all change their minds and jump right in. Jed's adjustment to no mother in his life & Lacy dating his father was not realistic at all.

What I liked/Didn’t Like about the narration: As always Tiffany Trythall brings the characters to life with her narration

What I liked/Didn’t Like about the book itself: Lacy given up on love and lives with some major trust issues. George and his son Jed move back to town after George went through a bad divorce. Love is found and almost lost in this clean romance

More Stress than Sweet Romance

This was a very stressful book to read. I realize there are hateful people all around us. I recognize small towns can be cruel, but this ex wife was very hard for me to cope with. Seriously, a stressor I didn't need.

Enjoyed

I. Enjoyed the series between three different generations. In the series, family is chosen not by blood but by love and respect

Good story

Soothing story with some tension but not too much. I like a laid back romance. The characters were believable and fun.

**** "Misty Mountain" by P.C Zick
(Individual novel and also in the "Spring Into Romance" box set)

I absolutely loved this novel. P C Zick has a way of making her characters come alive and her storyline so believable and enjoyable, the reader quickly is absorbed into the novel past the last page.

I loved the small town atmosphere and the way the author describes the different seasons and areas of The Smoky Mountains. Her descriptions are in-depth and beautifully written, yet leave enough to the readers imagination. I love the paths and the creek Lacy ventures to when she wants time to think or rejuvenate.

The author does a wonderful job of examining the pros and cons of living in a small town as part of one of her major storylines. Something which she keeps as a bit of a mystery and releases a bit more detail on and off until the whole story is revealed. She uses her characters well in terms of how that part of the story unfolds and who knows what and who is positively and negatively affected. The small town gossip mill is clearly there as are the support of friends and relations (both blood and those whom you consider family) whom one turns to when necessary.

P C Zick's characters are all strong and and well written. They are all flawed in some ways and clearly very human in their behavior and actions. She addresses multiple issues via her characters and plot lines, as would occur to people in real life: divorce issues, child adjustment, love, friendship, bitterness, dysfunctional relationships and behaviors, job stability, etc.

"Misty Mountain" is a wonderful read and is the second book in its series. It is a sweet heartwarming novel with its heartbreaking moments. You will fall in love with the characters, young and old; you will root for many and try not to dislike a few; and you will fall in love with the town and The Smoky Mountains before you hit chapter two.

Lacy and George the hurts they both have had, the walls, can they find happiness and love. Will people be forgiving if they do become serious. Enjoyable family drama. The author covered the affect that divorce has, and
how others look at you for having done so. The small town and the gossip. The narration was well done, and enjoyable. Given audio for my voluntary review
