Chase the Fire

Escape! Her stalker was out on bail. She was sheltering in place in her condo like a prisoner. He was free to walk the streets and she didn’t dare go out for fear of another attack. Her life was in shreds because of one man’s obsession for revenge when she was promoted above him. Miranda Major picked up her handbag, walked out of her home, and got into her car. The interstate stretched in front of her. An escape to a future she never expected with a man she had met before her life had been shattered. Only she would land in a mud puddle, her hair dripping from the rain pouring down when that man astride a big gray horse was staring at her. Archer Channing had been sleek and elegant in his suit when she had first met him, nothing like the rugged male who dismounted with fluid grace and offered her a hand out of the puddle. Miranda hadn’t had a destination in mind. What had prompted her choice of this place? The farming community of Live Oak was so far removed from the sophistication and polish of South Florida that it could have been on another planet. Archer was a favored son of one of the oldest founding families. She was a woman with no family and danger was right on her heels. Archer, a man she barely knew offered her help and shelter. With Archer, she could finally be Randi, not Miranda. More, he showed her just what a small town could do when faced with a threat to one of its citizens. It didn’t seem to matter that she hadn’t been born in Live Oak. It mattered that Archer stood beside her ready to fight with her against the man who wanted her dead. With Archer came his friends and the justice of small-town law.Had Randi finally found a home? A family? A place to put down roots?

This is a great first book in the Live Oak Series. Still a little short in the page count but still has well-rounded - fleshed-out characters and a very engaging story line. Also, I laughed out loud in certain places. Hope you will too. North Florida residents, say, Hello! to your next favorite author. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Here are a couple of excerpts you might like. I know I did:

"I don’t want to physically turn myself into Miranda Major. I want to be Randi again. I like my freckles and my red hair. I want a damn cookie every now and then and not get on a stupid treadmill to work off the damn calories."

"There was something about the town that was peaceful, something that invited you to sit for a moment and simply enjoy the cool shade beneath the towering, moss draped oaks."

“You lied, Randi. It took seven hours and I had to follow a truck with a bunch of cows. At least I think they were cows. Then some deer with a death wish jumped right in front of the car to cross a two lane black strip of asphalt through small town alley."

A job issue causes it all.
Miranda has a problem at work that leads to a stalker. She runs right to the arms of Archer. I love Lacey Dancer's work. I have read all of her things for years. I tried for years to find her and finally did on Twitter. My joy was learning she had a new series. And it is exceptional just like every other one I have read. Chase the Fire is the beginning of a series that I feel will hold the interest of many for a long while.

This was my first intro to Lacey Dancer and I loved it. I found Randi, the heroin, to be very inspirational in how she took the damage from her past and channeled it to fuel a new seemingly successful future, but, yet, on realizing what she had lost along the way, didn't hesitate to follow her heart and change directions in an instant. I found it very inspirational and a reminder that although things from our past can inspire us to follow a certain path, if we open our heart we'd be amazed at other opportunities that await us.

This was my first book by Lacey Dancer and I loved it! Living in a small town, the Live Oak series hits home and is very relatable. I like books with strong independent women characters and Randi and Lucy are just that, with some sweet strong men to watch over them. Just love me some hot cowboys! By leaving the town she loves to get away from her stalker, Randi finds her true self and blossoms with Archer. I loved the mystery of trying to figure out who the stalker was and the author gives you just enough of the heat to make the romance a simmering burn. Jay the donkey was a hoot and had me laughing out loud! Can't wait to get more of the Live Oak series.

Chase The Fire was quite entertaining in that one of the main characters is being hassled by a stalker. She runs about five hundred miles from her home but he manages to follow her there. She meets and is protected by an client from her place of employment. The way this story evolves and how it ends is truly unique.
I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys mystery and romance in the same story line.

I really love how the character, Randi, was portrayed as a strong, determined and independent woman. Even though she had been through many hardships she kept on fighting her odds to the very end. The way the author pieced together the plot was also very satisfying. I just wished that there had been more emphasis on the stalker character, JW, since I felt that I was missing a part of his thoughts besides the maniacal ones that where clearly evident.

Best book this year

This was a good read and a very different feel than the other books I've read by Lacey Dancer. I hope they put more of her books on Kindle soon.
