Cornelius Saga #2

Revenge of Cornelius

Rate this book
Revenge of Cornelius is a clever spin-off from the popular, spine-tingling, paranormal tale, CORNELIUS: Amazon #1 Bestseller in the Teen & Young-adult Multi-generational Family Fiction category in November 2015. Mira Cullen is all grown up now and has left the confines of her ever-so-haunted childhood home. She and brother, Wade, have moved away to pursue their passions, but life for Mira has turned out quite differently from that of her brother. After returning home for a family visit, Mira finds herself in front of the old Ferguson house again - a place she has blatantly avoided since the entire life-altering experience of fifteen years earlier. The only thing is...there are new residents now, but not the kind she would have ever expected to see.

Review of REVENGE OF CORNELIUS by Tanya R. Taylor

Now this author rocks. I read CORNELIUS last evening, and immediately followed it with the sequel, REVENGE OF CORNELIUS, today. Hmmhmmhmm. Tanya Taylor knows how to elicit readers' emotions and make our heartstrings both thrum like a harp and weep bitter tears. Following the first book, in which a yearning ghost from slavery times appears to a young girl, asking for help to find her missing love, the ghost's killer reawakens to brutally haunt and terrorize a young black family who have purchased and renovated his long-abandoned plantation house. I found my emotional range stretched in multiple directions by these two books, which I might even classify as paranormal women's literature. [better yet, good human literature!]

Sigh. I had high hopes after finding this short story in the free Kindle horror books section. Horror? What horror?

For most of it I had no clue what genre it could be. I found the story took absolutely ages to move from one scene to the next. It made it very drawn out with so little actually happening. Not adding to the story.

I kept thinking it must suddenly just pick up and take off but nope. I didn't really enjoy this at all. The young girl in the book said "Yes Ma'am" way too many times. It got to be an eye rolling statement. I wanted to like this.

It just really started nowhere and finished about nowhere too. Not creepy, scary, chilling, strange - nothing. I have a theory, if you've got ghosts in your story it's got to have some element of creepy.

I can't give it more than 2 stars and nearly went for 1 star as from plot to characters nothing stuck with me. Sorry book, just being honest :-(

The sequel to the #1 best seller, Cornelius, continues to work on your emotions with the story of an innocent child, Rosie, the daughter of Mira Cullen.

The basis of Cornelius' Revenge is between Rosie's grandfather, Michael Cullen, and the haunting of the Ferguson House. I truly applaud the author on being able to weave current and past social issues into a paranormal reading that brings to light our brutal history that ends with healing. Characterization gives another depth, this time in Mira Cullen's father.

Enough back story is given throughout to make this into a standalone if need be. Truly excited to have read the first and second of the three I received as part of this book tour. There are six all-told, one day I shall read the rest.

Cornelius' Revenge - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A haunting spooky story that follows directly on from Book 1, Cornelius' Revenge has echoes of Amityville, as the past comes horribly to life in the shape of long-dead slave-master Cornelius Ferguson. He haunts the black family, who have now purchased and begun renovations on his former plantation mansion.
Mira Cullen returns with her 6 year old daughter Rosie to visit her family. Rosie's strong bond with her grandfather Michael will prove paramount in saving the child from Cornelius'evil intentions and the danger to her very soul.
Not to be missed, Tanya R Taylor's glorious Cornelius Saga, of which Cornelius' Revenge is Book 2, is a must for your supernatural suspense bookshelf!

Worth your time

I really appreciate a standalone series book. I felt that the characters were fully drawn. This book has many twists and turns that you never see coming. A unique little story that completely held my attention. I would definitely recommend this book.

Well written ghost story.

Can't wait to read book 3 and book 4. Wonder how Rosie and Mira will handle the next bizarre events.

My feeling is this series should probably be read in order. Of course I started with Book 2--but actually it didn't make too much of a difference.

Do you believe in ghosts who haunt old houses--The Ferguson House had remained empty for many many years. None of the the people from the town would go near it--they knew better. Then one day a family moved in and strange things started to happen to them.

Mira Cullen had come to visit her parents and decided to visit the new owners with her daughter. They were really nice people and Mira and the wife became friends as did their children.

Now this ghost was just as mean and miserable as he had been when he was alive-----other friendlier ghosts tried to intervene to no avail but were able to protect the children---until they weren't.

Mira's dying father had to step in when his grand daughter was captured---

This is a book that will make you be very aware of things that go bump in the night!!

A good ghost story but read Book #1 first!

Mira and her daughter, Rosie, are in town visiting family when Mira’s mother mentions that a family has moved into Cornelius Ferguson’s house down the street in spite of rumors of hauntings in the mansion. When Mira and Rosie go to welcome the family to the neighborhood, Rosie is certain the ghosts are still there.

It was an enjoyable read but I wish it had been longer. Just when I was really getting into the story, it ended! It is not a stand-alone because of the references to events and characters in the previous book that left gaps for me in this one. I would like to read more books in the series for the back-story and to see where the characters lead.

Mira Cullen fifteen years later

It's fifteen years after book one in the series and Mira Cullen has a six year old daughter and the two are staying at her parents for a two week visit. While there she learns that a new family has moved into the Cornelius Ferguson's house after being empty for more than ten years. She visits them and discovers they have a six year old son Alex who becomes a code friend with her daughter Rosie. It isn't long before they discover the house is still haunted by ghosts. The book is a short novel that moves on at a crisp pace and contains no cliffhangers. Book 2 in the 14 book series. A non scary novel.

I appreciate the fact that Cornelius' Revenge takes place several years after Cornelius, because, while Michael (Mira and Wade's father) was an adult in the first book, one could see in book 2 that he experienced legitimate growth after recognizing the error of his ways in book one. Michael is a real hero in Cornelius' Revenge. Additionally, book 2 ratcheted up the scare factor. With the addition of Rosie, the reader experiences not only Mira's fear for herself, but her fear for her daughter, which is a whole different level of terror. I look forward to reading more in the Cornelius Saga.

This book was interesting, not really into ghosts and things but something about this book made me keep reading. I loved the way Rosie and her mother interact not only with each other but with all the other characters. I think I would enjoy the next book in the series (cara) after reading the bit at the end of this book.

Cornelius' Revenge

Mira and Rosie return to Miras family home for a couple weeks. The Ferguson home is inhabited by a new family, and the spirits from years past. Rosie is the pawn in the plan to extract revenge on Rosies grandfather. A fast paced, well done story.

this is not a book for an adult. Maybe for an 8 year old. Nothing new or interesting. Ghosts and so on.

Good ghost story.

The story was well written and interesting. It follows on free from the first of the series and to understand this installment fully, start with the first one.

Dialogue was boring at times, very plain, too simple, but the excitement about the ghosts always seem to turn the book from a 3 stars to a 4.

Houses retain memories of all that’s happened there, but not all of them may be pleasant, as in Revenge of Cornelius by Tanya R. Taylor.

To read this, and other book reviews, visit my website: http://makinggoodstories.wordpress.com/.

Mira and her daughter Rosie travel to visit Mira’s parents and as the pair spend some quality family time in Mira’s childhood home, Mira learns that the old Ferguson house has been sold, piquing her curiosity about who now lives there and if they know the haunting history of the house. Deciding to say hello to the family who renovated the home, Mira opens a door to her, and the house’s, past, which haunts the new residents in surprising ways.

A relatively simple story, it emphasizes encouragement to appreciate life in the moment and make memories with loved ones, this story is quick to read with some cutesy and some darker moments. While there are some eerie supernatural elements presented, namely in the form of ghosts, there’s not really a sense of horror to it as suggested by the synopsis. There were some odd turns of phrase used throughout the text, which perhaps were meant to be a way to indicate the regional setting, that pulled me out of the story as merely strange and possible editing oversights. Though a rather basic premise, it took a significant time to develop the few plot points of the narrative; this is indicated as a spin-off of another story and it seems it may be overly reliant upon reader knowledge of what preceded these event in order to adequately understand the context and horror of the Ferguson house and what haunts it.

Overall, I’d give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
