What’s hotter than an alien with scales? An alien with wings and scales, not to mention a hot body.
At 457 Preor years old, Jarek sen Claron is a dragon ready for his final flight into the skies. This voyage to Earth as the War Master of the third fleet will be his final assignment. Once he has helped his fellow Preors secure human mates, he will return to Preor before the madness of loneliness overtakes his mind.
That all changes when he meets Melissa. Human Melissa with her sparkling eyes, bright smile, and body that would make any hot-blooded male drool. Unfortunately, she never registered as a Preor mate hopeful. No matter, the Knowing stretches between them and there is no way she can resist him. Until she does.
Jarek wishes to give her the choice to mate him, while everything inside him screams to take Melissa beneath his wing, now. No choosing necessary.
But should he draw her to his side when his enemies are circling? Many males do not believe the son of a Preor mass murderer deserves to have a mate. Can he survive the coming battles? Or will he die without tasting sweet Melissa’s lips?

This book hit all the right buttons. It was hot, sweet, passion filled and at times angsty but always emotionally satisfying. The plot, setting and character development were on point, and yet the highlight of the plot was the satisfying and well developed romance. I really liked the heroine but the hero was the star of the book ... He was perfect and utterly loveable. The secondary characters were intriguing, especially since some of them are from previous series, so I can't wait to discover their stories.
This was so boring. How was this so boring when it had not only dragons, but aliens? I just don't know. It was immensely boring and dry. And not enough people died, i.e. everyone. I should've DNF-ed this, but I kept thinking, dragons & aliens, it can't keep sucking forever. But it can. The end.
This new series is a spin off from the authors Ujal series featuring aliens on Earth who have a lot in common with mythical mermen! It's a series I've followed but for some reason I have missed Dashing Through the Stars which introduced the Preor. The Preor have suffered at the hands of a mass murderer and now just like the Ujal they are searching for compatible mates to save their race but not everyone is happy with the choice of humans. Jarek feels his time is almost up and knows that when his mission is over he will take his final journey into the skies . His race are fierce dragon shifters but Jarek is the much reviled son of the insane maniac who decimated the Preor. Melissa has found her place working with the Ujal and is finally becoming happy with her lot but everything changes the day Jarek and his warriors arrive . Something called the "knowing" sparks between them and Jarek rushes to claim what he considers to be his female but Melissa is a woman who chooses free will and escapes him. Jarek would follow her but his enemies strike leaving the proud dragon injured, powerless and in danger of never claiming his Mate! Erin Tate writes sexy and imaginative sci fi romance which is hardly surprising because her alter ego is Celia Kyle, synonymous with paranormal romance that's usually titallating and fun! I won't lie and say this is serious sci fi because this is meant to entertain and raise a smile or two. What surprised me with this book was the lack of salacious scenes as it was the relationship that was front and centre. Both hero and heroine are products of their pasts and both have been unfairly judged. In order to be truly happy they have to accept what they cannot change and not be bogged down by guilt. Thrown together at a time when Jarek is at his most vulnerable they gradually let their guards down but best of all accept somethings are out of our control. I loved that the author took the storyline deeper but fear not as there is action as well as romance here. If you've read the Ujal stories the cameos will make you smile but if not it's a good place to start but for this reader it's time to chase down Dashing Through the Stars and catch up I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review Four and a half from me
Jarek is book one in the Dragons of Preor series. It’s hot, sweet, passionate, and emotional.
I did notice that the Dragons of Preor appears to be a spin-off from the Ujal series, which I have not read yet, but that didn’t take away from the story. It can be read as a standalone, but we do have references to events in the Ujal series and a number of characters from that series cross over.
This series has an interesting world, concept, and how one finds their mate. I like that the dragons while in man form have wings, but also can shapeshift into a full dragon.
Their is a little conflict that arises in the Preor race and with the human women. This adds to the emotions and build-up. I liked that Jarek and Melissa don’t hop into bed right away even with the Knowing. They take the time they need to get to know each other as individuals. Especially since they both carry guilt for something that they didn’t do, but feel it’s their burden to carry. Once they do jump into bed, it’s steamy and sensual.
The story was satisfying and the romance was well developed. I had a delightful time with this story and look forward to continue the series.
This might not be a 400 page novel, but damn it could've been. There was just so much damn detail, I wish there was more in the who, what, when, where, why and how into the plot.
This mini-review will cover Books 1-3 [Jarek, Taulan, and Kozav] -KU rental, which, you know, woot. I get to use my subscription and get to binge read a series like this. -Sometimes you just need a hero with scales or a couple extra arms. Scifi romance is an extension of shifter romances for me. Here, the Preor are basically dragon shifters from another planet. Rowr. -There’s a formula but it works for me. Give me a protective hero (not an alpha-hole but all about protective and loving his woman and I love it) and a good heroine who’s overwhelmed with said love and I’m in like Flynn. -Seems to have a few extra letters in key words just for the fuck of it, like JR Ward aka the Warden. This mostly happens in Kozav's book, and it was a tad weird, but I didn’t mind that much. -There's minor inconsistencies from book to book, very vague descriptions for the heroines. It would take me out of the story on occasion. -One thing that did bug me was the heroes being described as copper skin, yet each one seemed fairly pale on the cover. Felt like those BBW romances that have a skinny chick on the cover as the heroine. Just distracting and feels like false advertising. Embrace their differences. If your reader is picking up a sci-fi romance, chances are they’re okay with different skin colors or features on the hero. Just my two pennies. The Bottom Line [3.5 stars] A guilty pleasure read, I thought Ms. Kyle/Tate did a good job creating this ‘verse and I was sucked in from jump. If you’re into sci-fi romances, I’d recommend a look-see at these big beasts.
Not sure what to think of this series yet. This book was short and the pace was descent but something was missing.
When dragons find their mate, an event called the "Knowing" affects the male and female. The Knowing gifts both with all the knowledge of dragon history. And I do mean ALL the knowledge! Anything you wanna know, the answer will pop in your head. Human females are immediately able to read and understand the alien language. It's pretty cool because no time is wasted in familiarizing the heroine with the laws, customs, rules, traditions of the Preor dragons.
My major dislike was the plot hole of "how did Jarek heal his wings?"
Jake is injured in an attack and his wings are pretty much hacked off and are only hanging on by the skin. The muscle and bone are severed and the healers were unable to heal him. The surgery center on their space ship is destroyed, so he is unable to undergo surgery. Yet he is able to shift to a dragon and fly soon after injury, during his recovery! I mean...WTH? How??!!
Plot holes like that drive me crazy. They make me reread passages wondering if I missed something, but know...I didn't miss anything. Oh Well.
I'm willing to try the next book in the series. I really like the concept of alien dragons coming to earth to find mates.
Decent dragon shifter/alien book. However, there wasn't much relationship development. And there was a lot of telling not showing. Probably won't continue with the series.
I enjoyed reading this first book of the dragons of Preor. Melissa and Jarek's book was sweet and the groundwork was laid out pretty well for this new world. That is always hard to do for a sci-fi romance. Hopefully we will learn more about the Preor dragons in the future books.
3.5 Stars. Overall I enjoyed this story. The Dragons of Preor appears to be a spin-off from the Ujal series. Although this story is a standalone, there is a fair bit of reference to events that took place in the Ujal series and a number of characters from that series have crossed over. I felt kind of lost on that aspect so I would recommend reading that series first so you could better understand their relationship, especially since it pertains to the heroine. Once I got past that, the story of Jarek and Melissa is quick and enjoyable. He is a War Master of his race, intent on seeing the Preor males mated to human females to ensure the survival of their species. Resigned to the fact that he will never take a mate for himself, he is unprepared for the treachery within his ranks or for when The Knowing (the term used when two mates find each other) takes hold. Melissa is the nanny to the royal family of Ujal, who are brokering this peace treaty between the Preors and Earth. Melissa is focused on helping right the wrongs her own brother committed against the Ujal. She has no interest in a mate, especially an alien species that would take her away from her home. The Knowing has matched them and who could possible resist the love of a hard bodied alpha warrior with giant wings that can shift into a two hundred ton dragon? With two individuals that deem themselves unworthy of love and Jarek's enemies closing in, their mating might not stand a chance.
Jarek sen Claron has resolved himself after 457 years that he will never find his mate, he has one last flight to Earth and then will find madness knowing he can't stop it. What he does not expect is to meet his mate after arriving on Earth and the beautiful Melissa is perfect for him. However, Melissa is not sure she wants a mate, she feels the Knowing which is part of the mating process but she is not sure she is ready to mate. Jarek tries to respect Melissa's wishes but when enemies threaten everything he could lose everything including his life.
This was entertaining, I was not sure why Melissa hesitated so much. You get it but didn't flow right for me on that part of the story. I would check out more in this series though, thought it was descriptive and interested in some of the other characters.
I'm not sure where all of the 5 star reviews are coming from. The book was okay. A few things I didn't like. One, it really isn't over 400 pages long. It's just written in big type. I had to adjust my settings on kindle so it would go to the appropriate size.
This is a book about Jarek and Melissa. It started off good. It was very well written and easy to follow along. The thing I didn't like was how the author took a strong alpha male and made him weak! Jarek, war master of the third fleet, and respected leader went to the most hated male and not caring if he gave everything up for his mate. He didn't even punish the men who attacked him. They also experienced the 'Knowing' and couldn't be without each other, but the only sex scene came when the book was 95% finished.
This was a cute story about fated mates. I loved the idea of once you're in the vicinity of your mate, the "Knowing" takes hold. The Knowing was like a memory card being added to your brain, all about your mate, their planet etc. Talk about an ice breaker lol. I will say this book went very fast, everything happened quickly and before I knew it, it was over. I listened via audio and enjoyed it. Once Jarek is injured early on, the relationship between the two is allowed time to grow rather than them just jumping into bed together. Sure the heroine gets a little spooked, in an instant her life changes, that'd be scary for anyone I'm sure lol. Cute short story about a lonely Earth woman who meets her match in her alien mate.
So let me lay down what pissed me off/deducted two stars from an otherwise decent PNR.
Hero: MINE! Heroine: *swoon* wait, no! *runs away screaming* Hero: *nearly dies saving a bunch of people he barely knows because he's awesome* Heroine: I have a very prestigious career as a nanny to one spoiled princess, I can't be with you because I'm assuming you'd make me give up my "career" even though we've never discussed it. Hero: oh, ok, that sucks. I'm actually so mutilated from that battle and saving people I'm probably not badass enough to protect you so I won't chase you, have a good life, find someone awesome. Heroine: WHAT?! You don't want me? Even though I just said I didn't want you and you're doing what I want, I'm going to pout like a spoiled brat. Hero: well I do want you but.. Heroine: NO! I'm a "strong independent woman" which means everyone has to do exactly what I want when I want and sit patiently while a flounce off until I stride back! Hero: oh, cool got it.
The End.
Despite that, I enjoyed the intro into the Preor series. I liked the supporting characters (who weren't as moronic as the leads) and the general plot/the way the world's set up. I'm hopeful Celia/Erin was having an off day when she wrote moronic Meli and the next one is better.
It was funny!!! There were brief cameos of adorable tykes! This was obviously not the first book in the series!!!!! (>.<) But, it didn't confuse and infuriate me enough to make me stop and go to the first book, which is this one: Vados
There was massive, nonsensical continuity fail!! Within like the same 2 pages and it was important so it was... weird, still liked it though, will go read more!
Enjoyable. Not epic or anything close, but I liked it. Jarek was kinda sweet. Melissa was ok. It was entertaining for a Sunday afternoon. There was not much incentive to continue the series because all the side characters were already mated; and from a previous series- The Ujal. But If I catch them on sale, I will probably 1-click them. If I catch the Ujal on sale, I will get them too because alien/mermen guys!? Yes, I'll try that!! 😂😂😂 Happy reading!
I love dragon shifters and science fiction romance but this book was slow and didn't really engage me. It was fine but perhaps because I have not read the series this one spun off from the characters didn't really intrigue me.
I also felt there was too much hemming and hawing so I didn't enjoy the romance even though I liked the hero and heroine well enough.
I suffered with boredom throughout the reading I didn't know how I managed to finish it! It painted with nice unique world. Unfortunafely, the book is repetitive and boring. The romance is dull.
It was good but I didn't love it. The alien names were a mouthful and it became distracting the longer I read, but I like the concept of the series. Will try another.
This was offered under Audible Romance package so of course, I had to read it, Alien Dragon shifters, HELLO?! Could anything be better? This is set in the same world as the Ujal, which I have read books one and two. Not sure why I didn’t finish that series. I will have to rectify that.
Jarek is the War Master of the Preor fleet and is overseeing the mission for his Preor warriors, to successfully find mates in human females. He is not there to find a mate for himself and has long given up on that prospect. So when Melissa is on his ship serving as Nannie to the Ujal and triggers his “Knowing” which is a Preor’s recognition of its mate. All hell breaks loose.
Jarek gives the backstory to the rest of the series, and I strongly recommend reading or listening to them in order. I like Todd Mrozek’s Narration he has a great range. Mandy Lane is excellent at female characters, but I am not a fan of hers when she is voicing male characters. I would have loved to see this done as a duet.
Overal this was a fast-paced, fun and exciting sci-fi romance; I am giving it four Boundless Stars.
November 2018 - re-read I still like the story and enjoyed it.
January 2016 - 3 stars This was a good and quick read. The story was engaging and the characters likeable. I just wished that the book was a little longer and more detailed. Also, as I didn't read any of the Ujal novellas, it was a bit confusing at times. It can be read as a standalone, but I think it makes more sense and is more enjoyable if you read the Ujal books beforehand.
That brings me to the number of pages listed...they can't be right! The book only has 2184 Locations on my Kindle. I checked other books with similar Locations on my Kindle and they have approx. 160 pages not 450 pages.
Overall, this was pretty good read. I just felt that I should point out that the hero is not a virgin for those who are curious. He just didn't have anyone spend the night.
It had a boring start. Confusing premise at times which made me feel like I was missing something. Like I felt like there was some other story I should have read before reading this. But this is book #1 so...
It had its moments. I've read worse and it's not like I dnf it so...
But like, they didn't even have sex till the very end. Boo. Don't lay that mate business on me and then not deliver.
It was too short to be a real book. There wasn’t a real story to find in this book. Just two strangers forced to be together on the basis of “the knowing”. The villain was invisible, we actually didn’t even get any one in specific. Only a cause with faceless fighters and attackers. It’s shortness and the tight packed information did not belie the lack of world building, character development and foremost a real, creative and interesting plot.
