The Synoptic Gospel: The Story of The Life of Jesus
Synoptic means, "seeing together” or “seeing as one", and this book is a unified word-for-word Harmony of the four Gospels that presents all of the events from the combined Gospel story in chronological order.
Now you can see all that Jesus Christ said, and did, including all of His teachings and miracles, in a clear and easy-to-read text that is almost 22% shorter than reading the four individual Gospel accounts back-to-back.

Clarity is enhanced with each topical keyword displayed in bold font. Reading all of the related verses back-to-back gives a unique prespective on how The Bible uses the spiritual symbol or theme, using only the words of The Scriptures, without any commentary, so that each person will be inspired with an understanding about what the topic means. A word-for-word Merger of the parallel verses is compiled in the Fifth Column, known as "The Synoptic Gospel". The "Verse-By-Verse Edition" available on Amazon is a great resource to quickly see the parallel stories and teachings from the Gospel, while the "Word-For-Word Edition" (available only on the fivecolumn.com website) shows how the Gospel verses were split into individual words using a sixteen step harmonization process to produce the unified Fifth Column merged text. The Synoptic Gospel: The Story of The Life of Jesus is a compilation or “harmony” of the four gospels - a single, chronological story of Jesus’s life and teachings. The original text used is from the New American Standard Version of the Bible.
The book’s text is divided first into chapters, then acts, and finally scenes. Each scene begins with the location as well as a date and then a note as to which particular gospel(s) the following text is derived from. The text is numbered for easy reference and any text that aligns with text from the Old Testament is also numbered and then referred to at the end of the section.
At the back of the book is a decently sized section describing some of the processes Mr. John used to combine the gospels as well as some history of the gospels themselves. This section also includes links to additional information on his website which adds even more detail. There are also a couple small maps included here as well.
Why should you read a harmonized version of the gospels? The first thought that comes to my mind is that this would be a great way to read the gospels for the first time. Having the events of Jesus’s life all together is a helpful way to establish a general idea of His story before digging into the individual gospels in more depth. And reading them in chronological order helps to put them in better overall context. And, of course, there is also the benefit of a faster reading experience.
The author generously asks for feedback at the end of the book as well. The only thing I can think to suggest is possibly to add the actual line of related Old Testament text to the Old Testament references at the end of each section. I found myself looking up a corresponding verse from the OT more than once and just having the specific line already there would have saved some time.
Also, it was mentioned that some of the locations and dates are known while others were educated hypotheses. Possibly putting any asterisk next to those that were extrapolated might be a good idea just to be clear as to which are confirmed and which are not.
When reading sections made up from more than one gospel I also found myself wondering exactly which text came from which gospel. Maybe text solely from one gospel could be color-coded to indicate this. Of course, that might be completely infeasible. I did note that Mr. John has also created a five column version of this book with the gospels shown side by side which would be an even better way to see this and also a great way to compare and contrast the gospels.
There was clearly much thought and care used in the creation of this book and I encourage anyone interested to purchase and read a copy.

An excellent shuffling of the four gospel narratives into a single telling of the life of Jesus. Another combination that was first arranged by Tatian around 160 CE. A valuable resource for any Bible student.

An interesting way to present the New Testament to readers. Once one accustoms him or herself to layout , presentation and format “ The Synoptic Gospels” gives the scripture reader a greater, holsitic
comprehension of Jesus’ mission to spread the gospel throughout his homeland peoples, and to everyone, everywhere it reaches to this day.
The reader also sees how the differing personal viewpoint experiences of the apostles affect their letters and memoirs. All in all , a worthwhile addition to getting a better sense of time , place, events and meaning of the Bible. It is not meant to replace the Bible, but to supplement it. In that itdoes a good job.

Pro: It was good to have the combined information of the life of Jesus chronological.
Con: I didn’t like the verse numbers because it didn’t match up with what I remember. It would have been better to left this numbering system off.
