"Hold onto your hats – there's something new on the horizon for the folks in Cotton Creek. In Finding Justice, Ciana nails the "second chance" romance with heart, humor and hang-onto-your hat thrills. It doesn't get any better than this." - Candid Book Reviews.Justice Weathers has his hands full with the ranch and his twin boys. A widower whose love life is pretty much non-existent and maybe that’s for a reason. His family doesn’t seem to have much luck with happily-ever-after. Sex? That's something an ex-rodeo bad boy can handle. Love 'em and leave'em. He’s not looking for love. Heck he runs from it. He might have a bit of running to do. Someone’s on her way to Cotton Creek and when she gets there she’s gonna stir up a whole lot of feelings he’s spent the last three years trying to forget. Yeah, that bit about nothing ever happening in Cotton Creek? So wrong. If you love small-town and rural, feel-good love stories like those of Robyn Carr and her Virgin River series, Ann-Marie Meyer and The Red Stilletto Book Club, Tricia O'Malley, the Siren Island series, Pamela Kelley, Nantucket Beach Plum Cove series, or any of the wonderful books by Carolyn Brown, then this is a book and a series for you!
Ciana Stone has been reading since the age of three, and wrote her first story at age five. Since then she enjoyed writing as a solitary form of entertainment, before coming out of the closet to share her stories with others. She holds several post graduate degrees and has often been referred to as a professional student. Her latest fields of interest are quantum mechanics and Taoism. When she is not writing (or studying) she enjoys painting (canvas, not walls), sculpting, running, hiking and yoga. She lives with her longtime lover in several locations in the United States.
I started reading it but I just read that the H was married when he slept with the h the same night that his wife killed herself. I don't know if they were separated all I know is that he cheated.
I saddens me to have to give this one star, because I do not think the author's writing style itself is bad. But there were things about this book that sickened me and I just can not get past it. It seems really strange to me that this book has so many five star reviews. I don't know if maybe the other readers missed this or they do not care about it. But I find it revolting. This is a quote from Location 984 on Kinde "She didn't expect him to react so dramatically and so was unprepared. Suddenly his big hand was around her throat. The pressure didn't cut off her breath entirely, but it did constrict her breathing. She reached up with both hands, clamping onto his wrist and his grip tightened." "Dy-JD." Her voice rasped. For the first time, she felt fear." The hand in question, the one wrapped around the heroine's throat belongs to the so called hero. Right, the man that she ends up with at the end. I really wanted to stop reading at this point, but I received this book in exchange for an honest review, so I made myself keep reading in hopes that this would somehow be made right. It wasn't, in fact none of the characters, or the author addressed the fact the "hero" had physically attacked the "heroine." He never says I'm sorry, or realizes that he has done anything wrong. She never questions him about it at all. Rather, the heroine felt bad for him, and even more attracted to him after the fact. And it's not as if the hero had any type of possible justification for this, it's not as if he was suffering from PTSD or anything like that. No, the reason he is so angry is because three years prior, he was out cheating on his wife with the h on the night that his wife killed herself. But get this, he blames the h for all of it, even though he never told her that he was married, he gave her a false name, and he left her in the middle of the night with no goodbye and no contact info and hadn't seen her at all in the three years since. And he never even apologizes. He actually blames her for his wife's death. Even though he had only known her for a weekend because (get this) if he hadn't been so attracted to her, then he wouldn't have been out cheating and would have been home to prevent his wife's suicide. In what universe does this make sense? And even after the h learns all of this (and after she's been choked by him), she still can't resist him. Again, this saddens me because I do believe this author has the potential to be a good writer, and maybe her other stuff is good. But if she believes that anyone who does this, or allows this to happen, can continue on to have a loving, lasting, healthy relationship then I think she is sadly mistaken.
A meaninginful trip back to cotton creek Overall 4 out of 5 stars Performance 4 out of 5 stars Story 4 out of 5 stars Reviewed: 06-16-18
Jo never figured that the man she fell in love with three years ago would be one of the subjects of here television show. She never expected to see Dylan/Justuce/JD again. Once in Cotton Creek she finds that the small town holds lots of fascination and hope. Come visit Cotton Creek and learn of family drama, secrets, stalking, love and family.
J. Scott Bennett gives a good performance and the audio has an extra layer of depth with the way the phone calls are echoed in. This adds more to just a traditional audio. The smoothhness of the cadence and sound quality was good.
As much as I enjoyed returning to Cotton Creek for Justice and Jolene’s romance there were some aspects of the story that have me a bit torn this time. The one thing that I’ve always enjoyed about Ciana Stone’s stories is that her characters are often painfully human (even with the touch of Paranormal I come to expect). They have faults, they make mistakes, huge mistakes, they fall off of that high stage that we readers so often put characters on and do dumb, stupid, harmful things. And such was the case with Finding Justice. Having said that I’m expecting flawed characters there are still some lines that I am uncomfortable seeing crossed – and this time those lines, for me, were crossed. I have a really hard time with a hero using any kind of physical violence on the heroine – any kind, no matter how provoked. It was one moment, just one action in an intense scene… but it is there and that changed how I viewed this hero for the rest of the story.
From that point onward JD was no longer my hero – but one character does not make an entire book, so I enjoyed the complications, the danger, the small town feel of Cotton Creek and the other characters we encounter in Finding Justice. I loved seeing Joe once again, with a slightly larger role (not by much though) than when we first met him in Southern Comfort. In spite of the hero doing something that I, personally, could not forgive this is an amazing story full of charm, home town feel, a touch of Paranormal, likable characters, danger and a love that shines through. I enjoy this world, and I’ll be back for more.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I listened to the Audiobook. The narration was ok. I think Justice was in his mid to late 30's, maybe 40 yo. The narration for Justice gave me the sense that he was an older man. The Justice voice sounded as old as the voice of his father, Jason. That have me a different picture of Jo and Justice together. I just could not picture a younger version of Justice with the associated voice. I did think the narrator did a good job on the female voices.
Justice was not my favorite H. Why he would blame Jo because he couldn't man up is beyond me. Not to mention he never told her he was married. No matter how scrappy his marriage was at the time, he KNEW, and Jo had no clue. When the choking incident came up, I kept waiting for his dad to come to the door, for someone to see or hear something, for a mark to be on her neck, etc. something. This entire incident was ignored. Justice may have apologized for the choking, but I missed it if he did.
Jo had a really tough path to walk in this book. I have to say that she was a tough, strong, forgiving, intelligent person who was willing to put others first.
I guess J.D. apologized enough to make Jo happy, and her stipulations allowed them to end up with their HEA.
I voluntarily listened to and reviewed the Audio version of this book received from the author.
Okay, the series is growing on me. More than I really thought it would. I had really planned to move onto some ARC'S I promised a friend to help proof after Southern Comfort, but there's a super secret freebie if you read these books, and I got caught up in it, and then Finding Justice.
It seems like each book focuses on a different couple in Cotton Creek, a small little town in Texas. The people and families overlap a bit so characters will pop back up, but the focus is on someone different. This one had some heartbreaking backstory, some convoluted backstory, a fair bit of drama, and, again, the strange touch of paranormal.
The sex is slightly more explicit here, but still tame in comparison to most books I read and review. No music to speak of in this one, but quite a bit of rodeo if that's your thing. I do think I'll read the rest of the series, but I don't plan to start it right away. Still a few typos, but fewer than in Southern Comfort. I think those who like small towns and westerns will enjoy this series.
J.D. and Jolene have history and meeting again may not be a good thing. Although things heat up between them pretty fast, it’s not necessarily in a good way. This is a tale that carries a lot of emotions, and when an unexpected element of danger is introduced, it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s an exciting and, at times, gripping love story that will keep you involved from start to finish. The characters and storyline are engaging and being able to continue to read about the inhabitants of Cotton Creek only adds to the overall enjoyment. In addition, the story link to the Whisperers makes this even more pleasurable. J.D. and Jolene’s love story is the perfect addition to this wonderful series.
Justice "JD" Weathers is a recipient of the family curse. His wife murdered herself and rather than blame himself, he blames the woman who swept him off his feet. A woman that didn't even know he was married. Talk about character flaws! Because of his flaws, he makes some decisions that are not popular concerning the woman who took his breath away, Jo. I've read several of the other series that tie into this one and I enjoy the characters and story telling. JD has serious issues and there were times his actions should have been put in check. I liked Jo, Cody, the twins and even the town busybodies that helped cause a stir. JD was great once he was honest with himself.
The second book in this series just continues with the great family and friends that captures your interest in the first book The characters are believable and easy to like and the story is just as good. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes romance, friends and family mixed with some mystery and a bit of the paranormal.
I'm not a big fan of cowboy romances per se, but for some reason I've enjoyed this series. The people in the small west Texas town seem like people you would want to know (for the most part) and there's a bit of conflict just to keep it interesting. Oddly enough there's a bit of paranormal activity (a guardian angel) too.
She had a one-night stand several years ago and never forgot him. It was the night his wife died, but he never forgot her and never got over the guilt. Then she comes to town.....just to see his family.....not knowing who he is. You see, he didn't give her his real name. Highly recommend.
Another installment in the series. One thing that I like is that it’s a “stand alone” book. It doesn’t “leave you hanging” waiting for the next installment to get resolution! Each book has characters from the previous installment, but introduces new ones! Cowboys, love and danger, what’s not to love?
Another good book in the Honky Tonk Angels Series. I really liked Justice and Jo. I know this has mixed reviews, but you have to get through the whole book to understand where the two of them were coming from. It hit issues that in real life people deal with and that's what I really liked.
ARC review For honest review. When jo windwalker comes to cotten creek Texas to do a show on the weather's family for county western life she see the man J.D. Weather's from her past .Awesome story 10 stars
What a story! A perfect second chance love story with some drama and suspense added to it. I loved everything about this book as well as the series to far. Great writing and fantastic narration!
This book is like all of my favorite romances. Quick, easy with a little bit of drama to keep you interested plus cowboys! This is the second in the series and I am excited to read all six in the series.
JD and Jo have passion in spades. Will their past, their secrets and stubbornness prevail or will they succumb to the love they have for each other? When danger strikes, Jo willingly and unquestionably makes the ultimate sacrifice. The question is: will it be enough? Ms. Stone creates a wonderful balance of believable characters, hot, steamy passion and a story that can not be put down. Another great read from Ms. Stone!!!
If you read Southern Comfort and weren't quite sure of this series, like I was, rest assured that Ciana Stone pulled out the big guns for this book. It is her usual style, as was Southern Comfort, I suppose. I guess the difference for me was that the first book was kind of a prequel which set the stage. I enjoyed it and it was a good read. However, unlike Finding Justice, it wasn't like slipping into a comfy sweater on a winter's day. It didn't quite fit. Finding Justice does fit. Reading it was comforting and exciting and wonderful. Almost like coming home. I read it and could just settle in. All of that said, reading Southern Comfort is essential. Technically I suppose this could be a stand alone book but there is so much character development in the previous book that this story would not be complete without it. Another thing that I found essential was the Whisperers Trilogy which told the story of the Nash brothers. If you have read that series, this book has the same feel when reading it. There is a lot of background, again for characters, but also for situations that are broadly explained in this book but for true understanding of the references, you should read that first. All of that said, there isn't much that I can say that won't ruin any of the books I have just instructed you to read before reading this book. I will say that it was fabulously done and I truly fell in love with Justice and Jolene is just perfect for him. Cotton Creek is a wonderful setting and I can't wait to read more about the Honky Tonk Angels.
Ciana Stone writes another fantastic book!!! This is the second book in the Honky Tonk Angels series and will keep your attention from the first page. We welcome the Nash family back into the fold through the Weathers family. J. D.( Justice) Weathers is the oldest son of Jason (Jedediah Nash), widower raising his twin sons. Jolene works for famous TV show and I'd on her way to Cotton Creek to interview with the Weathers family and tying them to the Nash curse. She is also bringing pease of mind to Jason about the events in his youth that lead him to flee and change his name. J. D. Is shocked to see Jo the woman that had haunted him for three years. Undeserved guilt has a way of changing a person and Jo is now the target for that guilt and after digging up some information of past events she understands why. As Jo makes friends with his family and the people of Cotton Creek things are brought to light and J. D. accepts the truth of things he realizes he needs Jo in his life. When a mad man strikes out at Jo he is terrified of losing her but when the mad man involves one of his sons all hell breaks loose. Can J. D. save his son and the woman he loves in time or is the Nash curse going yo strike again??? This is a very powerful story of love and a lost soul accepting the truth and letting go, the importance of family and friends and risking your life for someone you love. You will laugh at the banter, cry for the heartache and get goosebumps when Joe appears yet again.
Finally!!! :) After all the chaos with life I have managed to read and once again thoroughly enjoy the next book in the 'Honky Tonk Angels' series by Ciana Stone. Having received a copy for an open and honest review via Candid Book Review team. :)
LOVED it!! This time it was Justice Weathers story. One filled with angst, betrayal and the love of family, helping to continue on with life. Justice lost his wife to suicide, but then she was no angel! Sadly, that left him a hollow man with two twin sons to bring up and he did. Very well, as you will find from reading. :)
We meet Jolene, a woman of Native American background and a journalist for a TV show that does very well with truth and honesty. These two characters met and enjoyed a very pleasurable long weekend some time ago. Now they have to face each other again and it's tense. As you read, you know there is still something there, as much as Justice tries to remain aloof. Thankfully the twins see there is something strong between them that each tries to deny. :)
We do have a nasty character who appears and causes chaos of his own kind, threatening Jo, but all ends well with much excitement. There are some fun characters in this tale, some we already know from the first book. But it's a great read and gritty. I still got to enjoy my much loved chuckles from the various antics of the locals. All playing their part in this story and others to come I hope. :)
Thank you again for another great read and I look forward to the next instalment of these great folks and their lives and loves.
Really good listen. I liked the plot and enjoyed the story with all of the details used to set up and follow through.
The main character (Jo) was very likable and I really enjoyed following her through the story. She seemed to be an unwitting guardian angel who through trials and tribulations sets her world and the worlds of many others around her upright again. Pretty inspiring to go through it with her. The other characters were pretty well developed as well. Really thought Cotton Creek might be a good place to live, except for the gossiping Betties.
It was a little odd that such a turn of violence could/would happen not once, but twice. Felt a little out of place, and almost too much of a coincidence. But the explanations were plausible.
The narrator did an excellent job. The voices were good. The flow was good. Most of the time it was clear who was speaking and the inflection of emotion seemed to be well placed.
As for the romance part of it, this book is along the lines of a PG13. Nothing too graphic, and there really aren't too many curse words other than when the bad guy shows up. This book was focused mostly on the pangs of the heart rather than lusty sex scenes. I thought it worked well.
Overall, the characters seemed heartfelt and genuine, and very plausible to see them in real life. Very enjoyable story.
I received a free copy of this audio book for an honest review.
Though I liked this book, I must admit that a couple aspects of the book bothered me: #1 - the hero (JD/Dylan) choking the heroine (Jo/Jolene), and #2 - JD/Dyaln cheating on his wife with Jolene on the night his wife kills herself. Honestly, if I were Jolene, there is no way I could end up with JD after knowing that he cheated on his wife (this is a fact that he didn't tell her at the time), and especially not if he put his hands on me in such a violent and cruel way. that being said, despite the way I feel, but I'm usually able to suspend my beliefs/feelings for a well-written book. I've enjoyed all the books I have read in this series (four so far), and this book is no exception. I think it is well-written and filled with interesting characters. And though I couldn't relate to the romance this time, it was still entertaining. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I really love his narrations, and I probably spend more time on him in my reviews than any other narrator. He is really great and just brings the story to life. He gives each character a unique voice, and handles both male and female voices really well so that they don't sound campy. This has earned him the #1 narrator spot in my mind. Overall, if you can get past the two issues I listed earlier in the review, I think you will enjoy this book if you're a fan of western romance.
This is one series that I wait impatiently for each one. It is all the author's fault for making this a hook em by the neck type of reading , that good. Here is some more of romance waiting around the corner with mystic and danger at the edges. Jolene comes to town to do a story on Jason and his sons along with her film crew. She has already got his brothers relatives even though they are not alive. He is the last one but he also has a different name which has its own story to tell. His son JD though feels it will just be trouble especially when he sees who is the one doing the telling. They have a history but one that is raw and filled with passion but he ran from. Funny how things that happen like that have a way of catching up. He takes on a burden that really is not his letting it stand in the way, they also believe in a curse. Jolene also though has her own special touches that are told which I myself would of liked to see a bit more of and on. So glad though desire will overcome desire but danger will stick its nose in between. A unhappy nut will come roaring to life that will endanger her that will be the suspense full blown in here. Also there will be a touch of mystery that will lend a hand too. This is one that I did enjoy to the fullest which I know others will also. Romance and love will find its way and triumph in where it belongs.
I love Ciana Stone and her writing! I loved how Finding Justice is tied into The Whisperers Series and the Nash Family. Justice Weathers, oldest son of Jason Weathers and father of twin boys Briggs and Dawson has been beating himself up for the three years over something that he really had no control over. Trying to run the family ranch and raise his two boy's has been a full time job and he has no need for another relationship or love in his life. Of course fate has other plans. Jolene Windwalker, is a host on Country Western living Network and has been doing a documentary on The Nash Family and and curse that has plagued the Nash Men since the 1800's. Her research brings her to Cotton Creek and The Weathers family.
I loved Jolene from the start. She is honest as the day is long, she cares for the people who work for her and she is quick to make friends. I loved her playfulness and sarcasm and the she puts people at ease. JD is a loving father and loyal to his family. I was as able to feel the pride and love he had for his son's. A bit pigheaded at times and like most men doesn't realize what he has until he loses it, or her as in this case. The secondary characters are a hoot and can't wait to read their stories. Great new series and I highly recommend you read this book.
