Blackmailed into marrying her family’s enemy, then swiftly widowed by illness, Lady Sorcha Marr must take charge of a clan she hates as much as they hate her. But fate intervenes in the form of her husband’s twin—the man who betrayed her and led to her downfall.
Sir Colin Marr fled his Highland home in disgrace, believing he would never again see the woman he loved. Returning a decade later to root out Scottish traitors who have infiltrated his family stronghold, he must persuade Sorcha to set aside her hostility and treat him as her husband in his brother’s place. He needs the cover not only to save Scotland but her inheritance his resentful clan would gladly confiscate.
Has fate set them up to even an old score, or is it giving them a new shot at learning to trust … and love?

What grabbed me the most was that I felt this novel was a second chance at first love. Sir Colin Marr has loved Lady Sorcha from afar for so long. He knows that she is forbidden fruit due to the fact she is betrothed to his brother Brice Marr. What Sorcha doesn't know is that Brice is less then faithful to her. Even if she does know she turns a blind eye. When Colin decides to steal a kiss it ends with him fleeing his home.
10 years later Colin returns on the night of his brother’s death. He must convince Lady Sorcha to help him pose as his brother Brice to find the traitor against Scotland. That is easier said than done. Even though there is no love lost between Sorcha and Brice she has more attraction to Colin since he opened up her attraction. Sorcha highly doubts her heart can handle helping Colin find the traitor. Colin is determined to make Sorcha see him once and for all as the man she needs to be with.
Favorite Colin quote: "He had long imagined finding Lady Sorcha alone within the walled herb garden of his home- her smiling beaming, her Mackay gray Eris dancing mischief and delight at his presence."
Favorite Sorcha quote: "Deciding the herb garden would always be her favorite retreat at Strathnaver, Sorcha nodded." Aye, I am more than ready to be the happiest woman on earth.""
Here is a wonderful story about love, deceit and treason. This is the first book I have read Rue Allyn and I enjoyed reading it. I just wished that I read the first book of this series first instead of reading the second book first. I'm going to read the first book of the series now. The only problem I have with this story is to remember who is who because there are a lot of characters in the story that I had to go back and search the book to find who they are and what job they do. I hope you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did.
Rue Allyn's "Knight Protector" is the second tale in The Knight Chronicles. You don't need to read them in order, but I did. I loved it! Sorcha is a great leading lady! The situation is so very interesting. I could see a movie of this one! It would have to be R rated though or maybe NC-17! This is a very, VERY hawt historical.
