Every one of us has either wronged another person or been wronged by someone else. Talking about forgiveness is great, but most people don’t know what forgiveness means or how to do it. Often our efforts end up looking like a pile of mismatched puzzle pieces leading to more questions than answers. What is forgiveness? How do we ask for forgiveness? How do we extend forgiveness to others? What about when people hurt my loved ones? How do I teach others about forgiveness? How do I make forgiveness last?
In this study, you will learn, not only the principles of forgiveness, but also how they can be applied to impact your life and your relationships. Find answers to the questions and more as you see how to piece together a beautiful picture of Godly forgiveness.
Forgiveness can be difficult for many people and that includes Christians. Even when we set aside any sort of religious or spiritual reasons for forgiving someone who has wronged us, deep down most of us recognize how important it is for our own peace of mind to forgive someone so we can move on with our lives. There are many benefits to finding forgiveness in our hearts. Kristi Burchfiel has used the Apostle Paul’s letter to Philemon to demonstrate why and how we can do this.
Piecing Together Forgiveness is a brief, yet thorough and compelling workbook for anyone looking for a greater understanding of the principles of forgiveness. This book helps readers understand how those principles can be used to renew and strengthen our relationships.
Using the words of Paul, Ms. Burchfiel refers to the Biblical Book of Philemon. Creating a fictionalized account to go along with scripture, and using examples from the POV of all those involved in the Book of Philemon, the author breaks the entire process down into six easy to follow sessions, complete with questions and answers:
1. Paul: The Voice of Experience 2. Onesimus: Asking for Forgiveness 3. Philemon: Giving Forgiveness 4. Appia: Indirect Forgiveness 5. Archippus: Teaching Forgiveness 6. God: Creator and Completer of Forgiveness
I found Piecing Together Forgiveness to be an especially uplifting and positive guide. I especially liked section five where the author talks about teaching forgiveness. As a parent, grandparent and caregiver, this is something I’ll be sure to refer to time and again. This book would make a wonderful guide for study groups.
