Librarian's Note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN B01AASMXIS
Melody Reyes is on her first public relations assignment overseas. She’s living life the only way she knows how, with one foot in the Kingdom and the other in the world. One divinely inspired encounter knocks her flat to the ground, literally. Melody finds herself swept off her feet by a hunky, Asian guy who is her opposite in nearly every way.
She’s a quirky girl from the Caribbean in the big city for the first time. He’s a smooth, no-nonsense businessman helplessly drawn to her sincerity and weirdness. She blurts exactly what she’s thinking and he keeps his cards close to the chest. He’s close to perfect but not quite. Can this lively Belizean beauty tame the Jerkface?
From an early age, Nia knew she wanted to be a writer and actively began chasing that dream when she was a teenager.

I really enjoyed this ! A lovely break from the usual sort of books in this genre. And there is angst done right! Along with light Christian Themes The only thing I didn't like was the heroine's self esteem was a bit on the low side. I would definitely recommend this!
This book was soooo good. I will definitely look for more from this author. It was funny and sweet the heroine was well developed she had strong conviction without being annoying or self righteous. I would have loved a bit more about the hero but he was also well developed. I would definitely recommend this book. Well done. P. S. I loved that the author included some patois and showed her roots in this book.
This book was a RIOT for the first 1/3 of the book. I guffawed, chirped, choked on giggles, and chuckled along until, it got deep and serious about some very controversial stuff. In general, I agreed with the statements made. A few I had to chew on and mill on a bit. And then it got back to some semblance of the previous humor. Multicultural relationship perspective. Faith perspective. Life perspective. There were so many true-to-life moments, thought processes, and scenarios. My emotions were both stimulated, reminded, and encouraged. There was a point on the last part of the middle where it lost my attention some, and I pushed my way through, but I am so glad I read this book. Clutzes unite!!!
I was not a fan of this book at all. Melody was naïve and annoying. Spencer was pretty lame. The storyline dragged on and on and was preachy. I skipped through many pages of this book. I would not recommend this book.
This was another interracial, clean romance by Mia Arthurs. The interracial couple was Melody, a black Belizean and Spencer, an Asian American. I'm used to this author's writing and usually enjoy her books. I was a little disappointed in this one. It took me longer to read than most short books, and at times it was even difficult to understand what was going on or even who was speaking.
Melody was presented as a child of the Kingdom. However, her attitude, with no filter on what came out of her mouth proved otherwise. She was just too quirky with little self control. Spencer was too accepting of everything Melody said and did.
Melody seemed too concerned with their racial differences as well as their differences in their beliefs. However, you didn't know what Spencer believed. Asian American was a vague description of him. Which Asian - Japanese, Chinese, etc. They all have different beliefs and cultures. He sometimes withdrew from Melody with no explanation.
I guess there was not enough realism in the actions of the characters. Melody was over the top in speech as well as actions. Spencer was too laid back. The book was a little superficial and the characters seemed shallow.
As much as I've liked reading Nia Arthur's clean romances, this one missed the mark for me. Also, I hated the title which is demeaning to anyone.
I greatly enjoyed reading this romance. The humor throughout had me laughing. It made me wish that melody was real and a close friend. Spencer is hot. And the story line is real. No tiptoeing around the struggles of falling in love with someone who is not along your must haves - a man of God.
I wanna start by saying I have read over 140 books this year so far and over 250 books last year and none of them have prompted me to leave a written review and not just a star-rating as much as this one has. (This is mostly due to that fact that I don’t think anyone would care for my opinions but I digress) This book however, this book, has changed my reading life. The need for diversity in books has always been at the forefront of minority groups, especially recently with the black lives matter movement gaining more recognition within the eyes of the masses. I personally never thought so deeply about the topic of diverse books, though I know how important they were, it never seemed to have any gravity towards the books that I gravitate towards reading, but stumbling upon this author definitely changed my mind. As a black Christian female from Barbados I identified so thoroughly with Melody, from from the mind wars of a Christian up-bring where everything that consisted of magic was evil (I didn’t watch Harry Potter or read it until I was 25 because of all the witchcraft, moreover I couldn’t even watch Dragontales and I too grew up on vegetales, and felt that personally as well) to the smallest fact of trying to get into UWI and wearing uniforms to school and being able to show off that new backpack and stationery. I felt like I was reading about myself, down to the necrosis Melody has about strange beautiful men being serial killers (I mean Ted bundy ...hello, *not that I find him hot but people did*) Anyway I am getting sidetracked....I don’t even know if Ms Arthurs would ever even see this but I had to tell anyone who is pondering on whether they should pick up this book, you definitely should. it so well encompasses the mind of a Christian Caribbean female (or at the very least, this one) that I was constantly freaking out to my family members every step of the way while reading this book about all the character situations or attributes that so closely either mirrored or re-enacted my life. Reading about Belize was so beautifully close to feeling like I was reading about Barbados, especially those lifeblood sucking mosquitoes lol. It never throughly hit me how vastly important it was to see someone like you in fiction but I have no words to explain how much this book has now impacted my future picks for reading.
Ms Nia Arthurs, I just want to say that upon reading your novel I have now crowned you with the prestigious title of an autobuy Author for me, keep up the amazing work you do, and I thank you for allowing me to see myself in the books that I read. P.s I also love your writing style... :) you are awesome.
This was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this, but it was a riot. Great romance. Unique, quirky characters. Pleasant settings. Witty dialogue. Melody Reyes is a black, Belizian woman who flies to Los Angeles for a work trip. When she literally runs into a hunky, sexy Asian man as she leaves the elevator, he opens his mouth and she realizes he is a Jerkface. But fate twists and makes them meet again in a hilarious way. I don’t want to blow any of the plot, but I will say the story had me smiling a lot. Melody is a hoot. I loved her, and the way she loses her heart was crazy and awesome. This clean romance tugged at my heart strings and had me cheering for Melody from page 1. Great romance that I can whole-heartedly recommend.
Pros: -POC -Interracial relationship -Supportive Friend and family -Independent woman stuck to her values
CONS: -Preachy -Low self esteem -Focused too much on looks -To long! I stared skimming from 85% to 95% -The I'm so awkward it's cute thing started to get annoying.
I liked that they brought up the issues that interracial couples face but it was not the main focus of the story. It kept it realistic. we don't just sit around talking about racism all the time.
I won't be continuing with the series the focus on religion is not what I'm looking for. I just want to read a clean romance.
Finding a really good IR novel is getting to be so rare these days. Well this is one of those rare finds! I loved reading this story from Melody's perspective...her quips were just too precious! But I especially loved the way the story was not rushed...this romance was allowed to grow and mature..and just seep its way into my heart. This goes on my keeper shelf for sure!
When I started this, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. It's written in first person, which is not my favorite style. And came across as a bit strange. However, Melody grew on me through the story. It does have some things I don't like in my Christian fiction (at least one or two cuss words and words like "pissed" and "heck"). But I enjoyed the way she made the characters work out their differences. And it was fun to read about a culture I didn't know much about before.
