I was worried that this would be the last book in this series but it doesn't look like it. Or maybe I've just been REALLY interested in Loki...er, I mean, Logan's story. So I guess, in a way, it IS the end... the end of a long wait!! :)
Sylvi was a great heroine. I liked her so much because she's a heroine in the truest sense of the word. She's really brave and has no problem jumping into dangerous situations. Like, when she's inside this mountain cave/labyrinth thing... man, she's got lady balls of steel! Plus, she saves the hero a couple of times and not just in this book. There are flashbacks to the time when Sylvi and the hero met, and usually, I don't like flashbacks but these were all about the main characters and I learned so much about them through those flashbacks. Sylvi was so...steadfast in her devotion or love or her deep caring for the hero (in those flashbacks). It was impressive. And it was easy to see that she had been this bad ass and this determined for ages. For me, there was a lot to like about Sylvi.
Logan was a lot of fun but he was also a little bit deep, I think. Now, I've been waiting for his story for a while now (2 books? 3?) so I was super worried that no matter what the author did, I would be disappointed. Thankfully, not so! In previous books, Logan would swoop in (sometimes literally) and save the day or help the hero so I already liked him at the start of this book. Sure, he's made some mistakes and he's definitely been an ass but he's done what he thought was right and I had to admire that in him. I mean, he's a god. He was designed that way, you know? Having said that, I also thought it was really wonderful that Logan started to realize AND admit that maybe... just maybe, he may have made some mistakes in the past. For a god to admit that he's done something wrong, it's huge and it went a long way towards making him seem more human. I shouldn't have to say this, but just in case, Logan is a big, ol' sexy bad ass and he was a blast to read. I don't know much Norse mythology but I bet anyone who does will have some insight into Logan since some of his backstory sounded familiar. But what do I know? Any Norse mythology I know is from the movie Thor!
The Sexy Time... there was a decent amount and it was pretty hot! My jaw dropped in one of the scenes and I said (out loud!), "Oh Loki, you sly devil!" LOL! Anyway, even though Sylvi and Logan met each other over 800 years ago, its like they're starting over. They've both gone through lots of things over the intervening centuries and they're different people now. I liked that they had this history that I was learning about through the flashbacks. And it was nice to see them reconnecting in the present time too. I don't know why but it made the stakes feel higher somehow? I do know that I loved them as a couple and their scenes together were full of tension and drama and sadness and anger and laughter.
I loved this book. There was a little bit of humor, lots of action and plenty of mystery. I thought this book had a big Indiana Jones/Lara Croft Tomb Raider feel to it so I think fans of adventure in their romance might dig this book (get it? DIG this book? Bah ha ha). This is the fifth book in Linsey's Mythean Arcana series but I don't think it would be too big of a task to read this book as a stand-alone. There are a few characters/couples in this book that were featured in previous books but I didn't feel like knowledge of them was required at all. I went on an emotional roller coaster ride, especially with the action towards the end of the book. Geez, I was on the edge of my seat WITH tears in my eyes! The main characters and their rich history really sucked me in and I had a hard time putting this book down. I would absolutely recommend this book...and this whole series!
