Welcome to New Hope Academy—home of the rich and famous. And then there is me. Katerina Vasin. A very ordinary girl who is definitely not rich. My parents shipped me off to an American boarding school, but I can’t figure out why I’m here. Or how they’re paying for it. I have an ordinary family and an ordinary life. Or so I thought. As it turns out, my family isn’t so ordinary. Life just got a bit more complicated.
This is the first book in the New Hope Academy Series. This is a completed YA mystery romance. Book 1: Fate Book 2: Luck Book 3: Fame Book 4: Wish
I'm Scarlett Haven. I write YA and NA books and I write a lot. My books are a fun mixture of romance, mystery, and now some paranormal too!
Besides writing, I also love to read anything I can get my hands on and I'm always drawn to the villain of the story. I am 29 years old and am married to the love of my life.
Lately, I discovered YA author Scarlett Haven and had been reading through her different series. New Hope Academy takes us into the life of Katerina Vasin. Katerina is half Russian and half British. Her family or what remains of her family as one of her brothers Eduardo was recently killed in a car accident is still in Russia, whereas Katerina has been shipped off to boarding school in America. New Hope Academy is the boarding school for the Rich and Famous. Katerina doesn't know why she is here, as her family is definitely not rich and her dad is an Engineer for an engineering company. However, Katerina is about to discover everything she knew about her father was a lie and that in the world of Russia he is the most powerful man alive. In Russia, Katerina never had a boyfriend, but here she has captured the attention of several guys including Damon - the President's son. Is it fate that landed Katerina in the sight of Damon or simply a coincidence? Find out in Episode #1 of the New Hope Academy series by Scarlett Haven.
I'm sorry but this book really wasn't for me. Firstly anyone with a half decent spell checker would have picked up on a lot of the mistakes in this book. Secondly this book made me cringe with its racial stereotypes and its explanations of things that didn't really need to be explained. And it was so far fetched that I couldn't help but laugh, the characters are all ridiculously one dimensional and the plot for me lacked anything that would make me want to read the next instalment.
Katerina is being sent to school in another country, one where she doesn't really know anything about it. And to top it off she's in an elite private school for rich and important people, but Katerina isn't either of those things.
However, when secrets come to light about her family her whole world will be changed, and she's going to be sure to put a stop to it or else.
This book was really interesting. It was a short story about a girl whose whole world changes when she gets sent to a different country, then again when she learns the secrets of her family. Life gets more complicated, but Katerina does her best to deal with it and that made the story very interesting see how she dealt with blow after blow coming at her.
I liked this book over all and wouldn't mind reading more in the series. It really has this awesome vibe about it, and makes you want to know what will happen next.
Well worth the five stars really enjoyed reading it kept me guessing and intrigued. Never would have guessed what her father did. So exited about reading book 2. Recommend for others to read great book and great author.
Katerina: qué protagonista más odiosa. Me sorprende que lograra terminarme el libro. Porque aunque la trama parece prometedora, la verdad es que la protagonista lo arruina totalmente.
Indistinguishable character #1: Oh, wow, I love your accent. Where are you from?
Indistinguishable character #2: Oh, wow, you're so pretty. Is everyone in Russia so pretty?
Indistinguishable character #3: Oh, wow, you're from Russia? What's Russia like?
Indistinguishable character #2: Oh, wow, I love your accent. Where are you from?
Indistinguishable character #3: Oh, wow, you're so pretty. Is everyone in Russia so pretty?
Indistinguishable character #1: Oh, wow, you're from Russia? What's Russia like?
Katerina: I don't know why everyone thinks I'm so pretty! Hey, has anyone read the Bible? It's really great.
Indistinguishable characters 1–3: You're so right, Katerina. We should read the Bible.
Indistinguishable character #2: SOMEBODY DIED. OH THE DRAMA.
Katerina: Oh no.
Indistinguishable character #2: Yeah, but don't worry. Nobody really cares.
Semi-distinguishable character #1: Guess what? Your Russian family is secretly rich, and your Russian daddy's a terrorist.
Katerina: What?
Semi-distinguishable character #1: Yes. I have no proof or any reason for you to think you should trust me, but now that I've told you, I'll step in with my nonexistent authority and tell you what you can and can't do and where you can and can't go and when you can and cannot talk to your parents.
Katerina: Yeah, okay. That sounds reasonable. Gosh. I can't believe I never realised.
Indistinguishable character #1: Oh wow, you're so pretty. And so Russian. All the boys love you.
School: *cough* Remember that thing where this is a school? Quick mention of the first day of class.
Semi-distinguishable character #1: Hey, want to go to church with me?
Katerina: Like duh. Jesus saves.
Semi-distinguishable character #2: POSE. POSE. ARROGANCE. SNEERING. INSULTS. Heck yeah, Russian baby doll, we were meant to be together.
Katerina: Wow, he's so cute. But I want to wait at least five minutes before I commit myself to him forever.
Indistinguishable character #3: Oh wooooowwwwww this toolish boy who has nothing to recommend him beyond his father's job likes you! And you want to wait?
Semi-distinguishable character #2: Nobody has ever rejected me before. HAWT.
Katerina: And he has such a great personality.
Bad guys: WE ARE SO BAD.
Katerina: You are so bad! Wow! And so Russian. Has anyone mentioned that I'm Russian too?

Fun with random typos: It's really weird heating my name with an American accent. (9) My stuff is all put together too—the stuff my mum shopped here. (11) "I think it might be different in Russian than here," he says. (17) "He's your brother who die." (40) "He's always been a very into his studies." (42) "I guess I'd get tried three fourths of the way through then..." (72) I just have to work on a sort essay (80) "Really?" I ask, feeling hopefully. (86) "Apparently I can add teenage romance councilor onto my resume," he says, shaking his head. (86)
I enjoyed this book despite the many typos and somewhat abrupt transitions. There were a few things that were pretty stereotypical but the actual storyline was good despite being cliché at times. There is also a surprising amount of developments and action in Fate too given the short length of the book.
Katerina Vasin is shipped off to America to finish high school at a fancy college prep academy. Her whole family is still in Russia recovering from the death of her brother. Katerina has to adjust to a new school in a new country and she doesn’t know a single person there.
She also doesn’t know why her parents decided to send her to a different country for high school. When Katerina arrives at New Hope Academy, she feels like a fish out of water and struggles with culture shock. She quickly makes friends but slowly begins to realize she doesn’t have much in common with them.
New Hope Academy is a school for the children of the rich and influential but Katerina is from a normal middle class family-or so she thinks. As it turns out, her family isn’t normal at all and her father has been lying to her about who he is. Finding out the truth puts Katerina in danger and makes her question everything she thought she knew about her family.
I thought the plot was well-conceived enough and the story is interesting and fast paced. It’s pretty much a beach read with some thriller action. There’s a lot of drama with Katerina’s friends in addition to the family drama. The characters aren’t very well developed but Fate was so short that it just feels like the first part of a book.
It was an enjoyable read overall but I really think that all four books in the series should be combined to make one full length novel instead of being broken up into 100 page sections. The developing romance between Katerina and Damon is cute if a little abrupt. Parts of the story do feel a little disjointed but I hope it’ll come together better in the next book.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I am so happy I gave it a chance. This being the first episode had me craving more. Katerina is in a country where she doesn't know anyone, she's dealing with the loss of a loved one, finding out her whole life was lie and the fact that she's in danger, along with her new friends at New Hope Academy. Let's throw love in there and her life has gotten a lot more complicated. But I like that she's taking things slow with Damon. Who by the way is very sweet and so in love with her it makes my heart flutter.❤️ I'm also kind of shipping her with Tristan.😏
Katerina is a Russian-born girl who gets sent to the United States to enroll in New Hope Academy, a school for children of very rich parents. She can speak perfect English, though, so that part shouldn't be a problem for her.
The problem sets in when she finds out that her father is not at all what she thought him to be. Worse yet, the son of the President is attending the same school and there's a strong possibility that her father is behind an attempt to kill the son.
Katerina needs to find friends to help her while she tries to deal with the revelations she's been given.
It's a decently done book but I don't care enough about her character to continue with the series.
Beyond the fact that the story is well written and intriguing, I must say the best example of the person’s believe system is stated and obvious but not the basis of the story. The fact that she is Christian is really secondary to her being a child of terrorist who is navigating young love and self discovery.
Books needs serious editing which always bothersome to me. Also very little if any character development ...the love interest Damon seems way too weak.. the female lead.. not very likable , she seems so cold and one dimensional ... it’s not a bad story concept but the book needs a lot of work
this series is amazing. Its had sudden turns and mysteries rumors that might be true. Even if she is not a spy that doesn't mean she isn't good at eavesdropping. She soon finds out that there are some people who are not what they appear to be.
I would give it four stars if it wasn’t for all of the grammatical errors. Wrong tense used, words missing from sentences, words misspelled. It’s a pet peeve of mine, otherwise I enjoyed the storyline.
I love the main character Katarina so much! She is an amazing person with some truly hard times in her past and even though she finds out more hard/scary stuff about her life she stays amazing, a great start to this series!
I quite enjoy the story, im going to reas the others but im pregunta sure they are kind of a copy of The Rosewoods series; so, its nice to read but the other one is even better
The story is interesting, but the typos were off putting. I still read it as i was hooked and completed the 4 book series in a single Saturday of binge reading :) happy :)
Wow this has been horrible reading. I only finished because I am not a quitter and it only had 180 pages. What I didn't like: 1. Language, terrible immature, flat and hallow 2. Grammar, wording, spelling - please at least let the spell checker go over it 3. What's about all the complaining? Russia yeah America nay... 4. Yawning teenage story - never had that plot 5. Nothing happens... seriously nothing So do yourself a favor and don't pick it up
I'm loving the story line and characters. Was a little disappointed that it was in with the reverse harem books and so far there is only one romantic interest.
I picked this book up because of the Russian element and its redeeming feature was that there were some well observed descriptions about the Russian view of smiling put together with a Russian view of some aspects of American habits. These made me laugh as they were so spot on. However, it is an unsatisfying read because the story and characters don't come over as realistic. Whilst scarcely believable plots often succeed, everything else needs to be really well developed. The main action is clearly to take place in a further collection of chapters as the story in this "book" just stops as though half way through a chapter. The unfinished impression is reinforced by the fact that it is full of typos and needs a good proof read. A shame as I enjoyed some bits of it.
