Loneliness is all that Brenna has ever known. She doesn't expect that she will ever even know true companionship, let alone love. People say she was born with the mark of Odin, but Brenna feels it as a curse rather than a blessing. Those who would tell her she is favored by the Allfather are too afraid to look on her; she is apart from her people. Yet she has learned the power of her difference, and turned it to her advantage. She is a shieldmaiden, with a legendary reputation for her valor as well as for her godly gift.

Vali is a giant among his people, well-liked and respected. He is of the Úlfhéðnar, a berserker, one of Odin's own elite warriors, and one of the fiercest and bravest warriors to wield an axe or spear. He is the Storm-Wolf; his strength and ferocity are his gifts from the Allfather.

Fortune threw the two warriors together when they were but children. Fate brings them together again as warriors when two jarls ally for a raid into Estland. Again and again, Vali seeks Brenna out. He sees her; he sees the woman behind the whispers. More than that, he will not look away.

Vali has not forgotten the debt he owes Brenna from their very first meeting, and in seeking his opportunity to repay her, he finds a lonely, beautiful woman whose quiet strength captures his heart.

But the sagas do not sing of warriors who live quiet lives, or of love that does not know trial and tribulation.

Favored by the gods they may be, but that does not protect Brenna and Vali from the simple and devastating hardships of their lives. Their reputations cannot help them. It is their love that must become their legend.

I was born and raised in the Midwest, but I was transplanted into the dusty soil of Northern California and have apparently taken root there. An inveterate geek and gamer, I am a fan of many things considered pop culture and maybe even lowbrow.

As a reader, my favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, but as a writer, I've found my home in romance--or perhaps it's better to say simply "love stories." I have a yen to try other genres, too, at some point, but for now my muse wants to tell stories about lovers and families.

I write for the joy of it, and I write stories that I want to read. If others like them, too, that's just the cherry on top. I’m not interested in rules and formulae. I follow my muse and my characters and let them take me where they want to go, wherever that might be. I like big emotions, dark and light.

I like complicated characters with flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths, and I like each character’s strengths and weaknesses to be different from those of other characters. I’m much more concerned that my characters be interesting and diverse than that they be widely considered to be likable. I try to create people, not types.

Likewise, I want my stories each to be distinct from the others. Once I’ve told a story, I don’t want to tell it again. So even within a series, one of my books might be very different from the next. Some might be very dark, others equally mild.

That isn’t to say there aren’t trends and recurrences in my work. I’m drawn to certain themes and settings, and my muse has her favorite toys and tools. But I guard against those tendencies becoming a formula.

"We save each other. We are destined for it, I believe."

God's Eye is the first book in the Northwomen Sagas. Written by one of my favorite authors of all time, Susan Fanetti, this read offers complex characters, an intricate plot, and a passionate, yet tender, romance set in a realistic and raw Viking world. In short, Fanetti delivers another unforgettable read that is sure to please.

description
"She will have her revenge. And I mine."
Brenna has always been different. Some say she is cursed and some say she is blessed with the "mark of Odin." She has a unique eye and has lived her life as an outcast. Although some revere her, she is most feared by those around her. Learning to battle alongside her Viking brothers, she has become a ruthless fighter and protector. And although she has become a respected warrior, she is still alone.

Vali, a mighty Viking soldier, remembers meeting Brenna when he was a young child. When the gods bring them together again as adults, he will stop at nothing to have her by his side. Brenna is naive in the ways of the world and hesitant to let Vali in. Vali and Brenna come from different tribes, and their relationship is only secure as long as both of the tribes continue to live in harmony. As Brenna and Vali navigate their relationship through hardships and joy, both face terrible losses and yet experience beauty as they have never felt before.

description
"I want to see your breasts, wife. I want to see you make them tight with pleasure."
Told in dual POV,God's Eye is full of action, suspense, and a breathtaking love story. The journey these characters make together is full of pain and pleasure. The complicated relationships between friends and foes that exist in the Viking world offers a plethora of conflict for Brenna and Vali to overcome. The in-depth relationships between the characters was a constant reminder of the importance of loyalty in this world. There were certainly moments of despair and yet, as always, Fanetti manages to create utter beauty out of complete brokenness. I truly enjoyed every minute of Brenna and Vali's journey.

Overall, God's Eye would appeal to readers who enjoy action, romance, and VIKINGS!!!! There is certainly a great deal of blood and gore in this read so if you cannot handle the brutality of the Viking culture than I would say take a pass on this one. However, if you are looking for an epic romance that you will never want to end, then look no further. My only regret is that I didn't start this series sooner! Thankfully, there are three more books in this series for me to explore. I applaud Fanetti's brilliant writing skills and her willingness to offer more strong female heroines to inspire and take on the world. Bravo!

Historical romance lover? Vikings are HERE!

Can I speak honestly for a moment?

I was so uncertain about what to expect going into this book. I am not a big fan of Vikings ... not that I have anything against them - I've just never had an overwhelming interest in them before now ... so, my nerves were high, worrying that I might not fully appreciate this book, based on the subject matter.

Of course, I should have known better.

There are some really intense moments in this book. Full of a lot of action. And all authentic feeling. The history was obviously, really well researched (even though I know very little of it myself - I got the sense that it was as it should be).

I think what had worried me was that the story would be all dark and brutal history, with little room for romance. But, I've discovered that Vikings are a hell of a lot more romantic than I could have ever imagined.

The heroine, Brenna is easy to connect with. She is strong, independent and fierce. I seriously adored her. And the leading man, Vali ... holy shit! This man is H-O-T. Their romance blossomed a little quickly, but I had to appreciate that once they knew what they wanted, they wasted no time on games or drama. The strong connection with these 2 definitely pulled on my heart-strings.

Kudos once again, Susan Fanetti. Well done!

5+ "We save each other." Stars!

I still absolutely love this book! There is undoubtedly a lot of brutality, but Brenna and Vali have a love that makes it all worth it for me. They are one of my all-time favorite couples. Brenna is definitely one of my favorite heroines, and Vali makes the favorite males list too.

I did this reread as a buddy read with my TPAM group. There were some hard limits that came up that I had not considered when reading this before. I will lists them in a spoiler in case you want to know.

I left that kind of vague because I don't want to spoil the whole story. Just remember the time period the book is based in and also the culture. If you can handle the brutality, and/or don't have any of those hard limits, I believe this is a great story about love, friendship, strength, perseverance, and even forgiveness. Happy reading!

PS. Unfortunately, this book is no longer available on Kindle Unlimited

5+ "Brutal, Heartbreaking, Beautiful Love Story" Stars!!!

When I started this book, I was very afraid. I mean Susan Fanetti scares the "It's only a book" right out of me. But God's Eye was recommended by a GR friend that said it reminded her of The Golden Dynasty. Well, she had me at TGD plus I liked the television show VIKINGS so I decided to give it a go. I am SO glad I did. It is not so much like TGD except in the brutality of the warriors, but I loved it.

This story is just that. Brutal. At times, so much so, it is hard to read. But even more than that, this is a story of strength, of survival, and the most beautiful of love stories.

Brenna and Vali have become one of my all-time favorite couples. Their love is so honest and pure. Absolutely beautiful in its simplicity. They were always able to communicate and compromise. They were able to express their True feelings without any games, risk of rejection or insecurity. It was beautiful how they loved each other; the reason why I read romance book after romance book. Searching for this swooney feeling. Their love for each other is what compelled me to keep reading through the rough times of the story.

Brenna was the ultimate warrior woman. This girl has my utmost respect. Her strength, not only physical, but her strength of spirit was amazing. She blew me away. Definitely one of my favorite female characters. She was as much a hero as Vali.

Vail was unequal in his strength and skill as a warrior, but what made me fall absolutely in-love with Vali was his gentleness with Brena. Just thinking about him makes my heart swoon. As fierce, relentless and brutal as he was on the battlefield; he was gentle, patient, tender, and simply kind with Brena. #hearteyedsigh

This book was everything I was looking for in a read right now. It was dark and ugly at times, so much so that my stomach hurt from clenching and my heart was in my throat. But the love and the light between Brena and Vali made my heart swoon. It shined so brightly it made the dark worth the journey to the lasting light. My favorite so far for 2016!! Highly recommended! Happy reading!!!

Everyone should read this masterpiece. It inspires, horrifies, and pumps the heart with its emotional magic. The storytelling is delicious, the writing evocative and suspenseful. The romance is legendary. The sex scenes are satisfying. The brutality is wonderfully vivid and poignant. This story is perfection. I'm so invested in the characters I won't stop reading until I've finished every book in the series. Highly recommend.

God's Eye blew my mind. I admit to holding back on reading this because I know Ms. Fanetti doesn't pull any punches and is not afraid to gut me but curiosity got the better of me, and I'm so glad I caved. This was one epic journey of love, brutality, discovery, acceptance, fighting back - ugh I could go on and on.

Brenna and Vali have become two of my all time favourite characters. How he broke down her walls and got "in" there was awesome to read. You know that hearts and flowers saying "my heart sighed"? Welp, mine did - over and over with just how phenomenal Vali was with Brenna. There was no ex drama, no pushing and pulling, no unnecessary drama. Instead I got the most gorgeous love story and romance woven into this story.

I cringed a few times, the gore got a bit brutal in places but I seriously couldn't but the book down.

A truly fantastic read I am so glad I didn't pass on, and one of my favourites for 2016.

Expectations Some killing, mild gore, minimal violence, low angst, prominent romance with Viking undertones

Guess again…

Reality Descriptive gore, tons of violent encounters, lots of angst, great romance with real world Viking problems! I couldn’t be happier :D

What an exhilarating read! I loved Brenna God’s-Eye and Vali Storm-Wolf equally, which is rare. Normally, I find myself predominantly drawn to one MC. Both were equally strong alpha characters, who had opposing personality traits. Brenna was a loner, due to her offensive “God’s Eye,” while Vali was the sociable leader. Brenna, having been use to being ostracized, was gradually brought out of her hardened shell and taught real love and acceptance by Vali. He was absolutely amazing, and I can’t give his character enough praise.

While the gore, romance, and tyranny found in Braveheart ^^^ remind me of this book, don’t freak, because neither the H nor h die. They get a HEA and then some. I truly enjoyed Susan Fanetti’s Viking World, and hope to read more soon ;)

5 "It is Brenna's Eye." Stars

Before reading God's Eye the facts I knew about Viking culture I could count on one hand. I wanted to fully experience this book as this author is my favorite so I read a book on Norse mythology to get into Viking mode. As usual when I'm through with a Fanetti novel I feel elated to have read her story.

In usual Fanetti fashion her writing grabbed me from the very first page and took me on a brand new kind of reading journey. With a Viking heroine who's a total bad ass, wanting to be seen for who she is and not who people believe her to be and a hero who breaks through her shield to show her he does see the real her, this romance is nothing short of captivating.

Also, in usual Fanetti fashion, it's dark and a bit twisted because you can't live in the good without enduring the bad. Both Brenna and Vali are characters who grow together throughout the book and the journey together. Passion drove them both without remorse both in their personal life together and the feats they accomplished. The writing perfectly reflects that of the time period it represents.

I felt completely invested in this story. Other characters stood out and I can't wait to read their stories and become immersed once again in Fanetti's Viking world.

***MY FIRST FIVE STAR READ OF 2016!***

Even those who’d known her from her birth thought there something fantastical about her, something they could not understand. Some thought her a boon, others a bane, but none thought her simply a girl.

I didn’t plan to read God’s Eye. It wasn’t a book on my radar and honestly I’ve stayed away from Susan Fanetti books since her Signal Bend series pretty much gutted me. As talented a writer as she is, I've been scared. Still, I was curious after reading the blurb for God's Eye. It just sounded so different than her other series or anything I had read recently. So after getting a wild hair, I decided to download a sample and go from there.

As soon as I started, I was hooked. There is just something about this author’s writing that really works for me. Fanetti is a fabulous storyteller and that was never more apparent than while reading God’s Eye. The romance part of the story was lovely in a very classic way. The meeting between Brenna and Vali when they are younger, the instant connection between the two when they are older, all worked. I loved that Vali was committed to being Brenna’s champion no matter what. I also appreciated that while Brenna didn’t understand the connection immediately, she didn’t play a lot games. She was a fierce, brave, and capable heroine and I admired her through to the very end!

“Run from me no more. I want to be with you. If you don’t feel as I do, then say it.”

Her stunning eyes went wide and dark as their black centers flared open. He held them with his own. “I don’t understand you,” she whispered.

That was hardly a rejection, not with his challenge in the air between them.

He smiled and released her knee. “So you say. Here I lie, open to you. Let me help you understand.”

As much as I loved this story, it was a difficult read at times. The backdrop of this epic romance was often harsh, brutal, and violent. I admit to crying, cringing and at one point, skimming about three paragraphs I really, really didn’t want to read. Still, there was never anything I read that made me wish I hadn’t picked this up. The story was so different than anything I’ve read lately, it was so well written, the love story so sweet and romantic, it absolutely would have been a shame to miss out on reading this one. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series and can't wait to get my hands on it!

5+ “Brenna God’s-Eye and Vali Storm-Wolf.” Stars ✨

I am overcome with huge emotions finishing this book. This is definitely up there with Golden Dynasty for me. This book is Vikings, brutality, and dark grittiness. It is also a love story so sweet, precious and powerful that it takes my breath away. I would definitely check your triggers before starting, but also keep in mind that this is set in a time period of the most savage and fiercest brutality amongst these warriors.

Brenna and Vali’s love takes my breath. She saved him from being killed when he was about 14 from the hands of his cruel father just by standing up as a mere 11 year old and staring at him with her “gods eye.” With one eye blue and one brown, Brenna is feared by all because they see her as having power from Odin and the gods. It keeps her isolated, but in return makes her the fiercest most bad ass shield maiden around. Fast forward a few years when Brenna is around 20 and at the hands of the enemy in the middle of a bad situation, someone from her past is there to rescue her—Vali. When i tell you that I’m in love with this man believe it. When their hands touch and he pulls her up he simply cannot let go. Something strong interchanges between them that Brenna herself cannot deny yet she doesn’t quite understand it. Vali helps her understand. I do love a persistent man and one that falls first—HARD! The way he befriends her and the way she cares for him when his back is sliced open never leaving his side makes my heart swell. The way he convinces her and “helps her understand” in other ways makes my skin heat thinking about it.

So much happens in this book that I will not spoil, and there were times I had to take a break due to what was happening, but love is powerful and binding between these two and I had to trust my gut to keep going although my will was surely tested.

This is now one of my all time favorites that I must own in paperback form for my shelf. I want to shout out my dear friend, Stacie for being persistent throughout the years that I read this book. It took me 5 years, but I finally made it a priority and I’m so glad I did. I love you, sis.

My apologies to, Ms. Fanetti, for the late review and a huge thank you for allowing me to ARC read this gem. I read this book last month and had intended to write my review afterwards but each of my family members got sick. Then, unfortunately, they passed it to me. Once I had recovered my laptop cord broke. So, I was out of the business of reviewing and blogging for awhile.

God's Eye is my first experience with Vikings via reading or television. I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book. Ms. Fanetti helped ease her fans into the world of Vikings by sharing on her Facebook author page a daily Viking fact.

I love how Ms. Fanetti was able to take a genre that I hadn't read and immerse me into the story. Romance is romance and it doesn't matter if it takes place in modern day or back in the Viking days. The power of love, in this story, drew me in.

Long live the strong women of this series!

1 Star. I’m pretty sure based on the reviews of this book it is a case of me not the book. I honestly feel like I read a different book than everyone else. I did not connect with the characters. I did not feel like this was an epic love story. I did not love the writing. I especially did not like reading about

Despite all of that I kept reading hoping my opinion of the book would change. It did not. I have been reading historical romance, including a lot of brutal true to life historicals for almost 30 years. I have read the darkest of dark contemporary romance novels and loved them. I have watched the show Vikings and I loved it. I’m only mentioning that because so many reviews compare this book to that show.

I just didn’t connect to the writing or characters. I wanted to love it, but it fell so short for me. Would I recommend it... maybe. So many people loved it. There is obviously a beautiful love story within the pages that I was just not able to connect with.

5 Finding Their Home Stars

Susan Fanetti literally through me off with this book!! I frickin love it and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Brenna is shunned by her people since she is known Brenna, Eyes of the God. Well her title saved a little boy from his abusive father. Then years later Brenna became a Shieldmaiden.

Vali is a berserker/warrior and he is super strong. While raiding a village, he helped another warrior and guess who he saved.....

So our story begins......

“He touched his forehead to hers. “You hold my heart in yours. Keep it well.”

“His magnificent wife cupped his face in her hands and beamed up at him. “You are my home, Vali. I need no other.”

This is how you write a Viking romance!

Wow—this is exactly what a Viking romance should be! Brutal, intense, and emotional, with a capable heroine who radiates Lagertha energy, a tough but compassionate hero who falls hard for her, and a plot that actually delivers. I’m 100% continuing the series.

5 "Make me see our stars" STARS

I was a little unsure about this one despite the appeal of Vikings. Only because I'm meh on historical stories. That's not to say I won't give them a try and I've certainly read some that I've loved but this was a niggling concern of mine when I started this.

Susan Fanetti's a "go-to" author for me. I hardly ever read the blurb on her books. Going in blind is just the best because I've read everything she's written and loved it all. But, upon starting this, I did hold my breath for barely a few seconds and then by the end of the first page, I knew it would be alright. And by the end of the first chapter, I couldn't even remember why I was concerned.

Brenna God's-Eye is like all of Susan's heroines: a truly remarkable, strong woman. Brenna's different. Born with the God's Eye, the belief being she holds the power of Odin, she's feared and respected from afar for all of her life.

"Too beautiful for a human to bear. It holds all of the sea, earth and sky. It holds Yggdrasil itself. The eye of the Allfather."

She's lonely but also strong, kind and loving. And a shieldmadien: a woman who fights along her brethren.

Vali Storm-Wolf is virile, ruthless and passionate. This story's just so raw and so real. I truly felt like I was there. Susan did such an awesome job of taking us back in time. The descriptions, the language, the customs and beliefs. Just amazing!

 photo GE_zpsfeyqungm.jpg

Vali and Brenna are two great warriors, fierce in love and war. This was a stunning saga of power, greed, good and evil and one formidable love.

"I make you this promise, Brenna mine. I will see to it that you know well that bliss. You will know love of body and mind and heart. I will love you with all that I have."

Truly a fantastic read!! I highly recommend this for all of you that love history, strong main characters and never ending love. This period in time is vicious, harsh and rife with superstitions. I'll admit I'm scared and eager to see what Lola (Fanetti's muse) has in store because I know it won't be pretty but it'll be riveting, real and memorable!I'm so looking forward to more about these Vikings.

This was a great story. I loved both Brenna and Vali and their story was interesting, well written and completely engaging. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked it well enough that I'd like to try more of her work. However, since I've heard that Fanetti has a tendency to ruin the HEAs of previous couples as the series proceeds, I will probably stick with the first books in the series or standalones.

Brenna was born to the Viking people and is the daughter of a famous shield maiden (female warriors). Brenna was born with a strange right eye which her people see as being a sign from the gods. Unfortunately, it causes just about everyone to fear or shun her which made Brenna a very sad girl growing up. All she wanted to do is to become a shield maiden herself but when her mother tried to confine her into a solitary life as a healer (which would make her even more shunned) Brenna decided to leave (at the age of 13) and achieve the life she wants on her own.

Vali is a warrior of the Viking people, a berserker who is well respected and whose reputation is known far and wide. Vali grew up with a healer for a mother, he loved her but she disappeared when he was young and he was left with a miserable excuse for a father that abused him. Vali escaped his father at a young age and went off to find his future.

Vali and Benna actually meet the first time when they're still young (not long before they both run off to find their lives). Brenna is on her own and hiding away from the others in town when she hears a ruckus. She finds a man hurting a boy (who ends up being Vali) and trying to cut out his tongue. Brenna stands up for the boy and chases the man off (who's fearful of her because of her eye) but the boy is also fearful and runs off as well. They don't see each other for years until their Jarls (Jarl = clan leader) make an alliance for raiding together in distant lands. Vali has known who Brenna was since he heard of her reputation as a fierce shield maiden with the eye of the gods and he feels that he owes her his life. He also is sorry that he was fearful of her when they were younger and is determined to pay her back for her help.

Vali ends up saving Benna's life in a battle and they're reintroduced. Brenna sees that Vali doesn't fear her anymore and looks at her in ways she's not used to and doesn't understand. Men have always been so fearful of her eye that Brenna has never had to deal with a man wanting her so she tries to avoid Vali at first. When he makes that impossible, they finally come together and he helps her understand her attraction and the ways of men and women. Soon Brenna is embracing Vali's love and the changes in her life but with them being sworn to different Jarls, there's a possibility of problems in the future. Unfortunately, the feared trials and tribulations do show up, making Brenna and Vali face some very hard times. Thankfully, in the end, Brenna and Vali surmount the issues facing them and start on a well deserved HEA together.

I loved this story and the characters in it. Brenna and Vali were both great MCs and I had no complaints about them. Actually I had no complaints about anything in the story that I could think of. This is a great story with characters I loved and it kept me completely engaged until the end. I'd highly recommend this story. :D

I've been lately drawn to original and unusual stories and sweet heroes, who are manly, but not chest-beating alphas with the IQ of a fruit fly.

I couldn't have found a better story than "God's Eye" by Susan Fanetti to satisfy that yearning.
This story was pure perfection. I mean there really was nothing to dislike. Not a single thing.

The heroine, Brenna, was the epitome of a strong, butt-kicking woman. It doesn't get much more ferocious than being a shieldmaiden, a female Viking warrior.
And hell, Brenna was ruthless when she had to be. But her strength didn't end on the battlefield. Where it really impressed me was when she dealt with emotions she wasn't used to, when she faced tragedies and kept going. And when despite of everything she dared to love.
She was one hell of a woman. One I wouldn't want to cross but definitely would want to befriend.

When it comes to Vali, I'd definitely want more than that. Let me sum him up for you: Viking, tall, muscled, warrior, strong, ferocious, growls on occasion. That alone can make a smart girl stupid, but then add his other traits: tenderness, kindness, loyalty, intelligence and protectiveness.
The result: The blueprint for all book boyfriends.
And have I mentioned that he's a Viking. And totally, adorably in love with Brenna. What a lucky girl!

The story should be experienced so I won't give anything away. But it's one full of love, passion, violence, friendship, loyalty, betrayal and hate. It's beautiful and touching and nerve-wrecking at the same time.
And don't even get me started on the writing itself. It's exquisite.

Fanetti's storytelling transported me to a different world. A harsh, but beautiful world. I could taste and smell everything, my mind completely entranced by the tale. I could feel the adrenaline of the fight pumping through my veins, could feel the fear and the loss down to my bones, but also the excitement of first and real love and the sweet taste of vengeance.

This book has it all and is now firmly among my all-time favorites.

When thinking about a historical to review, I have so many from which to choose. I cut my romance reading teeth on historicals starting with A Rose in Winter by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. I still remember that book with great fondness. However, in living up to my commitment for more diverse stories, I am choosing to review God’s Eye by Susan Fanetti. It is the first book in her new series, the Northwomen Sagas. If you are a fan of the show, Vikings, on the History Channel, you will understand the allure and attraction of the this group written masterfully by this author.

Brenna is born with an unusual distinction, the color of her eyes are different. Others call it the mark of Odin, the Allfather. They believe that she brings the sight of Asgard with her. She is treated as either someone to be revered or feared. More often than not, she is ostracized as a pariah. She is alienated even by her own family. She leaves her home as a teenager and learns to become a legendary shield maiden. While working for a particular jarl, she meets a fierce warrior, Vali. He is a berserker, one of the elite warriors for Odin. He is powerful, dangerous, but has a serious sweet spot for Brenna. He is not intimidated either by her hypnotic eyes or by her reputation as a warrior. The two of them work together to invade Estland in the ninth century.

Although it is only a small visit into this time in history, I really enjoy learning more about Viking culture. Last year I had the pleasure of writing the Vikings recaps for the blog and I was hooked. This is a fascinating time in history. The ninth century is not a particularly civil time. It is an era of conquest and war. It is violent and brutal and Susan Fanetti does not pull the punches. If you have read her Signal Bend series, you know that she is not shy about writing violent scenes, but it is never gratuitous.

This story brings in mythological elements that are a part of the religious history. As a kid, I always loved Greek and Roman mythology but never learned about the Norse Gods. This is not a story about the gods, but rather how that mythology seeps into the culture of the people. Brenna is an outcast because of her mismatched eyes. People are superstitious and scared of those who are different. They believe that she has Odin’s knowledge because she lays eyes on Asgard and is bringing that power and knowledge to this realm. The villagers always keep her at arm’s length. They do not want to be bewitched. She leads a lonely existence. Her mother, a former shield maiden, does not want her to follow in her footsteps, but Brenna believes that becoming a warrior is the only means of fulfillment because at thirteen years old, she already knows that she will never marry and have children. People are too much in awe of her. They will not speak to her. They will not touch her. Instead of being sequestered into becoming a healer, Brenna runs away and begins her own odyssey.

When I think about historicals, I do not immediately equate them with women warriors. But when it is about Viking history, shield maidens are a natural part of the Viking culture. They are expected to fight. It seems as though women are afforded more respect in public because of their contributions on the battlefield. These women are kick-ass and none better epitomizes this than Brenna. So, given my love of Urban Fantasy where the woman are often hell-raising fighters, I smiled a lot through this book.

In addition to Brenna’s unique background, this is also an intense love story. As kids, Vali is about to have his tongue cut out by his abusive father when Brenna stumbles upon the scene. She uses her reputation as the God’s Eye to scare Vali’s father away. She does not see him again until the Estland raiding party. They fight for two different jarls who unite for this raid but it is a tenuous alliance. During the battle, he saves her life. He is not frightened by Brenna. He remembers her and is intensely curious about her. He’s alpha, but he is also kind and flirty. I recognize this character. He is as overwhelming as the Highland lairds in the romances featuring Hot Scots. Brenna never experienced this kind of attention before and she does not trust it. Over time, he wins her over. Their greatest struggle comes when they decide that they want to leave their jarls and start their own family in the conquered land. Both are valued soldiers and they have to fight for their right to determine their own destinies.

God’s Eye is intense. I readily admit I clenched my teeth and held my breath through a lot of it. Susan Fanetti’s writing is dramatic. It is a roller coaster ride of emotions. I do not consider it an easy read. However, it is a fulfilling one. I’m buckling my seatbelt now for book two.

Susan Fanetti once again delivered an astounding, captivating, enchanting five plus read. Completely reinventing herself from hardcore MC Biker babe writer to historically accurate viking legendaire.

You could feel the adrenaline coursing through the warriors bodies as they pounded a rhythmic war beat against their shields as the battle cries filled the air. Smoke, death and destruction was a heartbeat away. Not only was I reminded of the Vikings, Game of Thrones, Hercules and Braveheart. But I felt like I was really there. God's Eye was the perfect blend of angst, torture heroic acts and bravery I couldn't put it down and was immediately hooked.

Brenna, born at birth with the Eye of the Gods had been cloistered, feared and sought after.

Choosing a path of her own making, filled with violence and war, destiny intercedes giving her a life she would have never imagined. Turns out one deed does go unpunished and a new adventure begins.

Vali Storm-Wolf, one of the Úlfhéðnar, never forgot the kind acts of a little girl who once saved him. He'll repay that debt and appease the gods, one bloody war at a time.

Stopped at 33% ... couldn’t hold my interest

Vikings and a famale warrior...
A new historical set in my northern regions, casted with old ancestors and kinsfolk and with words, names and phrases from the ancient Nordic myth. Add some exciting drama, fighting Viking's, horses and swords battles. Best of all: a grand love story. — Written by Susan Fanetti (as romance style I already know I like) and that might mean intense heat and heartbreaking unforgettable scenes.

Yay!! Sounds tempting interesting. Rubs my hands eagerly and we will see.

I should not be allowed to review Susan Fanetti’s books because it appears I am unable to be objective when it comes to her writing. She is my swift kick to the nuts, anxiety filled, on the verge of puking, but loving every minute of it, favorite writer. Anyone who has read her books understands that description perfectly.

God’s Eye was a little different as far as setting goes, but it still had all the Susan Fanetti elements such as fantastic characters, over the top carnage and nonstop action/drama. It’s a fantastic read for those who like your entertainment a little intense.

2.5 stars. I liked some aspects of the book, but I did find myself skipping pages at times. I read it cos I like Susan Fanetti's other books plus I like HR. But this one wasn't really my thing as it turned out. The h and H were hot together, but overall there was too much violence in the book for my taste, especially towards the h. I know this reflects the times they lived in, but that just tells me I don't really want to read about those times. Oh well. I'll stick to Ms Fanetti's contemporaries from now on.
